Diner Reviews
  • "City Table has great food. We especially enjoy their brunch on Sundays. The food is delicious, the service is always great and the atmosphere is comfortable and fairly quiet. One of our favorite Boston Restaurants."

  • "The food was really good. The menu is interesting. The tuna was particularly good. I would come back for sure."

  • "I looked for a place to take some international clients with varying ages and this was perfect! We each chose different types if food, from tuna tartare to kale salad to steak to halibut to seared tuna and all were terrific. Our waiter, Victor, was patient, knowledgeable and fun. We will be back!!"

  • "A great spot for an early dinner or drinks and appetizers -- quiet in that you can have a conversation with two or three people without interference from background noise. Limited menu and wonderful service. A true neighborhood gem."

  • "We were a group of six looking for a low-key spot for brunch. City Table was great. Good food, nice ambiance, and the service was excellent. I'd come again."

  • "We went there for Father's Day brunch. The service was great, and the selection was vast and fresh. Will definitely come back in the future for dinner."

  • "We went out for brunch with our 3 year old and the manager of the restaurant gave my daughter a adorable stuffed animal - so NICE! The manager of the Hotel also came in and gave my daughter crayons and paper - again what great service. Food was also wonderful."

  • "Dinner was fabulous. We enjoyed every bite from appetizers to entrees. But I think dinner was what it was because of our waiter, Matt (gosh, I'm hoping that's the correct name). He had fun while meeting our requests. Thank you, City Table."

  • "I had read several good reviews on OpenTable, so my expectations were high. Sadly, it was a disappointment. The food was mediocre, and the service was friendly but not particularly knowledgeable and often rather confused. (Perhaps it was a different chef that day and the waiter was new?) However, I do agree with other reviewers that it was a very central location with a quiet, sophisticated ambiance; perfect for a quiet catch up with friends. In fact, it was almost empty on Sat 31st May at 12noon. "

  • "We were visiting Boston from NY and had reservations somewhere else but weren't sure about bringing our baby (well behaved 5 month old) and a friend recommended City Table - we couldn't have been happier. The food was great (sashimi tuna spring roll was especially good) and we were super comfortable (plenty of space in the restaurant, tables aren't too close together, and we weren't treated as if we were horrible for bringing the baby to a restaurant). They even brought us hot water to heat up a baby bottle and a stuffed monkey toy from the Lenox Hotel. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Boston."

  • "Food was very good & well seasoned. Portions were right. Server was knowledgeable and very pleasant. Unfortunately, there was noise from the bar and some loudmouths at another table. Made it difficult to hear the people at my table with me. So, the place is pub-like, the food is better than pub-like, the prices are consistent with the quantity and quality of the food - but the noise needs to be muffled, somehow. "

  • "Had a brunch with my wife and two small children (7 and 5). The staff was great and kept up the pace as this was important with the kids. They even had a small toy for kids as a gift. The ambience was energetic but not too noisy. For and drinks were both great. Overall, made a special family meal. Would go again. "

  • "My wife and I really enjoyed City Table. Our server, Eduardo, was outstanding. It was our first visit and he did a great job helping us with the menu and provided the perfect amount of attention during the meal. My wife had the chicken, which was very tender and flavorful. I had the snapper with coconut rice, which was delicious. We shared a scrumptious chocolate cake for desert. We live in Boston's Back Bay and it was one of the better meals we have had."

  • "This is a casual hotel restaurant with small restaurant seating area right next to the bar. Noise bounces off all the hard surfaces in the place. We booked here thinking we would have a quiet meal and be able to talk, but this was definitely not the case. The food was average (once we entered the noisy place, choice of hamburgers rather than anything else higher priced was made by all). Hoped for a specific bourbon listed on the menu, but it was not available. Waitress inexperienced with opening wine. We relied on written reviews in the 'tourist' mags, so guess we shouldn't have been surprised by the difference between the marketing info and the reality. Luckily we had 6 other evening meals in Boston that did not disappoint. "

  • "Easter Sunday / marathon Sunday was our 1st visit. All 3 of us had great meals, although my lamb special was the best! Our reservation was right at 5, but it took about 10" before we got service. After that service was OK, but nothing special. All of the staff were dressed to support the marathon, which was nice. "

  • "The food was mixed. But the service was slow and in attentive."

  • "The food here was great and the service was also quite good. My husband and I had thought it would be fancier and were a little disappointed that is was fairly casual. But that can be a plus, depending on the situation. There's so much construction in the area that looking out the windows is no treat. The ambiance in the restaurant itself is rather dark and loud. "

  • "Recently went with a group of girlfriends for a catch up dinner. I'm not sure if the waitress was new, or just plain horrible - either way the service was very slow. We watched our drinks sit on the bar for at least 10 minutes, and the place was not busy. When the drinks did arrive, one of them wasn't made correctly (dirty martini with no olive juice). When it was obviously a clear drink and not dirty the waitress assured us it was a dirty martini - after one sip it was not. Food was slow to arrive as well and water glasses sat empty for the entire meal. I had heard such good things about this place, but I was very disappointed."

  • "Convenient location to meet out of town friends for brunch. A very good selection of food that came quickly. The waiters were very polite but the service was mediocre. Had to ask for coffee repeatedly and slow on the check."

  • "We had brunch at City Table. While the food was fairly good, the service was questionably mediocre. Even though we were the only ones in line, we waited for at least 5 minutes to be seated. There were 3 or 4 tables occupied in the restaurant by this time, so it wasn't because wait staff was busy serving customers. When we were seated, even though I mentioned my existing reservation, the host(ess) did not pay attention and put it in the system. During brunch, it was quite OK. Our waiter was attentive, but not extraordinarily interrupting of our conversation. "

  • "The waiter asked for our order 3-4 times in a span of ten minutes and appeared rushed. Did not get the order correct either. For a relaxing Sunday brunch, I expected a lot better"

  • "As you enter the Lenox Hotel through the turnstiles you enter a really cool ambience. City Table is a dark atmosphere w/ fun lighting & a really great place to go on a date or w/ a group of girls. The drinks were fun. The wine was amazing (one of the best Pinot Noirs I've ever had - the $12 glass on the wine list). There are a lot of dining options & one of us got the tuna tartare from the appetizers menu as a meal - plenty of food. I got the steak frites - steak was melt in your mouth. The burgers looked amazing too - lots of options for all price ranges. The carrot cake was phenomenal and sizeable to share! We will be back. The service was great...not too much in our faces, but always there when we needed something."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to City Table for Restaurant Week. Everything we tried was very good, especially the Toffee Bread Pudding for dessert. The service was friendly and everything came out pretty quickly. It was a good experience and I would recommend it to others!"

  • "I have been to City Table several times, but not in the last couple of years. I must say that I was disappointed and do not see myself going back. I met friends there for restaurant week dinner, at my suggestion. I had the steak frites, it was 'ok'. The monkfish ordered by one of my friends was dry and tasteless. We wanted to order a bottle of wine, and asked the server for an opinion, he 'didn't know'. On a positive note, they did discount our bill for the monkfish which was barely eaten."

  • "Food was great! service was good. The only negative is that the table next to us was unbelievably loud, overpoweringly so. The annoying part is that they clearly knew someone affiliated with the restaurant because they kept getting free dishes, which is fine, except the volume seemed to keep going up with every new dish/visit by one of the restaurant staff."

  • "I had a wonderful evening dining with some long time friends at City Table. We went on a Sunday, so the restaurant wasn't overly crowded. The waiter was very accommodating, consistently refilling water and making sure we were enjoying our meal. The food was absolutely fantastic and I had a very nice glass of Riesling with the three-course Restaurant Week meal. I also really enjoyed the bread that they provided. It was always extremely hot and had the most pleasant touch of salt. This was a great find in the Back Bay, and I plan to come back! Prices are reasonable, yet the restaurant has a classy feel. Two thumbs up!"

  • "Decided to try during Dine Out Boston week and we were not disappointed. Two of us had the kale salad-would have liked a bit less kale but it was very tender and tasty. We each had a different entree-tried 3 of the 4 selections, vegetable risotto, roasted and braised chicken and the steak. All were very good. The steak was very tender and arrived as ordered. The chicken done two ways was moist and flavorful and served with a barley risotto which was excellent. The risotto was as good as any I've ever had. Both dessert selections were great--a bread pudding with a caramel sauce and creme brule. Nice wine selection and reasonable prices. Despite small room and close tables, were able to carry on a conversation at a comfortable level."

  • "My friends were visiting from out of town and I wanted to show them all of the highlights of Boston. When I booked a reservation for 6 at City Table, I had no idea the restaurant itself would be one of them. Brunch was exceptional--we highly recommend the delicious Cuban sandwich."

  • "It's a hotel restaurant, so I wasn't expecting a great dining experience. But I was expecting competence. My duck confit brunch entree was soggy and flavorless. The equally flavorless homemade smoked ketchup was no help. For what you pay here, you can do much better at any number of places within a 3-minute walk."

  • "Our server was outstanding. I had asked for the gluten sensitive menu and he went above and beyond to make sure I knew what was in the dishes I ordered and to check with the cook when I had questions. He was wonderful!"

  • "Excellent location for a business breakfast in the Back Bay and the food / service was well done."

  • "The food was excellent. The restaurant was not at all busy, but my waiter was more interested in socializing with his co-workers than doing his job."

  • "I've been to City Table twice now for brunch. The first time, I was with 3 other people, and the food was great, but the service was not. This time I went with one other person, and the food was so so. First, they had Irish Breakfast on the menu, but when we got there, they were out of black and white pudding, (which the water called blood pudding, which it is not), an essential component. Then, I got french toast, which was supposed to come with vanilla chantilly, and it didn't. But---and this is the kiss of death for any restaurant for me---they had half and half for the coffee, instead of real cream. But the service was better."

  • "The restaurant so far has been the best sound proofing and color palete in Boston. You sit down and immediately feel like you are on your sofa being served. My future wife and I went here the day after Valentines day and were not disappointed. I ordered the duck for an entree. It was cooked to perfection. We also tried the cholate layer cake and it was def a desert to pace yourself through with how thick it is. I recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere quiet and not to far out of the normal."
