Diner Reviews
  • "The food was mixed. But the service was slow and in attentive."

  • "The food here was great and the service was also quite good. My husband and I had thought it would be fancier and were a little disappointed that is was fairly casual. But that can be a plus, depending on the situation. There's so much construction in the area that looking out the windows is no treat. The ambiance in the restaurant itself is rather dark and loud. "

  • "We had brunch at City Table. While the food was fairly good, the service was questionably mediocre. Even though we were the only ones in line, we waited for at least 5 minutes to be seated. There were 3 or 4 tables occupied in the restaurant by this time, so it wasn't because wait staff was busy serving customers. When we were seated, even though I mentioned my existing reservation, the host(ess) did not pay attention and put it in the system. During brunch, it was quite OK. Our waiter was attentive, but not extraordinarily interrupting of our conversation. "

  • "Recently went with a group of girlfriends for a catch up dinner. I'm not sure if the waitress was new, or just plain horrible - either way the service was very slow. We watched our drinks sit on the bar for at least 10 minutes, and the place was not busy. When the drinks did arrive, one of them wasn't made correctly (dirty martini with no olive juice). When it was obviously a clear drink and not dirty the waitress assured us it was a dirty martini - after one sip it was not. Food was slow to arrive as well and water glasses sat empty for the entire meal. I had heard such good things about this place, but I was very disappointed."

  • "Convenient location to meet out of town friends for brunch. A very good selection of food that came quickly. The waiters were very polite but the service was mediocre. Had to ask for coffee repeatedly and slow on the check."

  • "The waiter asked for our order 3-4 times in a span of ten minutes and appeared rushed. Did not get the order correct either. For a relaxing Sunday brunch, I expected a lot better"

  • "The food was very good. You need to try the Lamb T-bone.. best thing on the menu!"

  • "As you enter the Lenox Hotel through the turnstiles you enter a really cool ambience. City Table is a dark atmosphere w/ fun lighting & a really great place to go on a date or w/ a group of girls. The drinks were fun. The wine was amazing (one of the best Pinot Noirs I've ever had - the $12 glass on the wine list). There are a lot of dining options & one of us got the tuna tartare from the appetizers menu as a meal - plenty of food. I got the steak frites - steak was melt in your mouth. The burgers looked amazing too - lots of options for all price ranges. The carrot cake was phenomenal and sizeable to share! We will be back. The service was great...not too much in our faces, but always there when we needed something."

  • "Great service and atmosphere but The food was average and over priced. Big let down!"

  • "I have been to City Table several times, but not in the last couple of years. I must say that I was disappointed and do not see myself going back. I met friends there for restaurant week dinner, at my suggestion. I had the steak frites, it was 'ok'. The monkfish ordered by one of my friends was dry and tasteless. We wanted to order a bottle of wine, and asked the server for an opinion, he 'didn't know'. On a positive note, they did discount our bill for the monkfish which was barely eaten."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to City Table for Restaurant Week. Everything we tried was very good, especially the Toffee Bread Pudding for dessert. The service was friendly and everything came out pretty quickly. It was a good experience and I would recommend it to others!"

  • "Decided to try during Dine Out Boston week and we were not disappointed. Two of us had the kale salad-would have liked a bit less kale but it was very tender and tasty. We each had a different entree-tried 3 of the 4 selections, vegetable risotto, roasted and braised chicken and the steak. All were very good. The steak was very tender and arrived as ordered. The chicken done two ways was moist and flavorful and served with a barley risotto which was excellent. The risotto was as good as any I've ever had. Both dessert selections were great--a bread pudding with a caramel sauce and creme brule. Nice wine selection and reasonable prices. Despite small room and close tables, were able to carry on a conversation at a comfortable level."

  • "Food was great! service was good. The only negative is that the table next to us was unbelievably loud, overpoweringly so. The annoying part is that they clearly knew someone affiliated with the restaurant because they kept getting free dishes, which is fine, except the volume seemed to keep going up with every new dish/visit by one of the restaurant staff."

  • "I had a wonderful evening dining with some long time friends at City Table. We went on a Sunday, so the restaurant wasn't overly crowded. The waiter was very accommodating, consistently refilling water and making sure we were enjoying our meal. The food was absolutely fantastic and I had a very nice glass of Riesling with the three-course Restaurant Week meal. I also really enjoyed the bread that they provided. It was always extremely hot and had the most pleasant touch of salt. This was a great find in the Back Bay, and I plan to come back! Prices are reasonable, yet the restaurant has a classy feel. Two thumbs up!"

  • "My friends were visiting from out of town and I wanted to show them all of the highlights of Boston. When I booked a reservation for 6 at City Table, I had no idea the restaurant itself would be one of them. Brunch was exceptional--we highly recommend the delicious Cuban sandwich."

  • "It's a hotel restaurant, so I wasn't expecting a great dining experience. But I was expecting competence. My duck confit brunch entree was soggy and flavorless. The equally flavorless homemade smoked ketchup was no help. For what you pay here, you can do much better at any number of places within a 3-minute walk."

  • "Our server was outstanding. I had asked for the gluten sensitive menu and he went above and beyond to make sure I knew what was in the dishes I ordered and to check with the cook when I had questions. He was wonderful!"

  • "Excellent location for a business breakfast in the Back Bay and the food / service was well done."

  • "The food was excellent. The restaurant was not at all busy, but my waiter was more interested in socializing with his co-workers than doing his job."

  • "I've been to City Table twice now for brunch. The first time, I was with 3 other people, and the food was great, but the service was not. This time I went with one other person, and the food was so so. First, they had Irish Breakfast on the menu, but when we got there, they were out of black and white pudding, (which the water called blood pudding, which it is not), an essential component. Then, I got french toast, which was supposed to come with vanilla chantilly, and it didn't. But---and this is the kiss of death for any restaurant for me---they had half and half for the coffee, instead of real cream. But the service was better."

  • "good spot but i think they get away with charging more because they're attached to the lenox. two of us went in each had one drink got an app and entrees no desserts cost $130. did enjoy the food just couldn't spend that much again for a meal that didn't wow us."

  • "The restaurant so far has been the best sound proofing and color palete in Boston. You sit down and immediately feel like you are on your sofa being served. My future wife and I went here the day after Valentines day and were not disappointed. I ordered the duck for an entree. It was cooked to perfection. We also tried the cholate layer cake and it was def a desert to pace yourself through with how thick it is. I recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere quiet and not to far out of the normal."

  • "First they were out of the Irish Breakfast, which is the main reason we wanted to try them out. Then everything was painfully slow. Our server was running around with 6+ tables while other servers were sitting around doing nothing. He was very nice, but brunch took over 90minutes! We had a table of 4, no apps or dessert, there's no reason things should take that long. The food was hit or miss. I ordered a burger med rare, which came out med well and was not seasoned at all. But the fries were good. The bananas foster french toast was fine, not as special as it sounds and the potatoes on the side didn't taste like anything."

  • "We went to City Table for a birthday dinner, and the whole party enjoyed the food. The cod was not over done, and the steak & frites (truffle) were delicious. The sweet potato fries that accompanied the chicken sandwich were crunchy on the outside and cooked perfectly. Some misses: chowder was just ok, the seared ahi tuna's sauce was too salty, and the kale salad could have used more mango. Other than that, the staff was friendly, and even gave a slice of cake for the birthday girl!"

  • "City Table is a casual, moderately priced place with excellent food and good service. The menu is a bit limited, but everything on it that I've tried is very good."

  • "Our food was delicious and the staff very attentive, even as we asked to be seated in a less crowded area. Nice bar. Often we avoid restaurants located in hotels but this was a pleasant surprise. Typical higher price for a popular area in Boston but every dish was delicious. Enjoyed some vegetarian options too."

  • "My husband and I were in town for one night. I searched the internet for restraints in the Copley area bad City Table received great reviews. The food was outstanding kudos to the chef! Great presentation and flavorful! The service was sub par, the hostess barely spoke and our waitress spoke even less! I do not even know if our waitress Patricia spoke English? My husband and I enjoy the dining experience and trying new resturaunts. City Table needs to work on the front of the house, so the back of the house will shine even more."

  • "Party of 5 enjoyed dinner over MLK birthday weekend. Two orders of steak frites; both diners commented that the sauce plated with the dish was too sweet; the steak, while not overly generous in portion, was cooked properly. Another diner chose seared ahi tuna for the main course; fish was excellent, but it was served with a sauce that was too vinegary. Chop-chop salads were very good; kale salad also very good. Dessert sampler consisting of a creme brulee, chocolate torte, ice cream, etc was a very nice touch."

  • "On a miserable, rainy evening, we retreated to the restaurant for what turned out to be a very good meal. A warm, cozy ambiance; well prepared, flavorful dishes; and excellent service all combined to leave us content, as well as fortified to venture forth again into the wet night."

  • "I didn't dislike CityTable, AT ALL. I was really looking for a trendy, hip, upbeat brunch spot and I think this is a bit more of a hotel restaurant. My food wasn't bad, but it wasn't fantastic. It arrived lukewarm and the asparagus was blanched or something else with no flavor / seasoning. The service was very very attentive, I think because they weren't very busy. I was surprised that they didn't have a specific brunch drink menu - on the brunch menu they just had mimosas and bellinis listed. Good brunch drinks, but I was hoping for something new and fun and asked for the drink menu. If you are a guest of the hotel or in a rush, I think it's a great place to go. Was just looking for something different."

  • "Had a great experience at City Table on Sunday early afternoon. We nearly had the place to ourselves, Great leather corner booth perfect for catching up with my sister. Had ample choices between breakfast and lunch items so we ordered a bit of both! Waiter was very attentive, prices were great for the city, food was fabulous. The vanilla whipped cream for the blueberry pancakes was to die for. And the homemade french fries were crave worthy! Add to the fabulous food and service, that City Table is in the perfect dining location for shopping afterwards (adjacent to lobby of Lenox Hotel on Boylston) and we'll definitely be back! Thank you for a great experience!"

  • "FABULOUS: the oysters, the chopped salad PRETTY GOOD: the gnocci special (sauce a little too thick, flavorings/ingredients a great idea but not quite meeting expectations) JUST OK: the steak with the steak frites a so-so cut of meat, the house steak sauce too sweet, the frites with truffle oil OK but not exceptional; the osso bucco nicely prepared and presented but a bit dried-out (not as moist as expected), brussels sprouts nicely flavored but a bit too much of the stem/core left on each sprout, resulting in a little too much chewiness Like our server a lot and the atmosphere is fun. Liked the menu a lot but with home runs or triples within sight, we were just a bit dissapointed with the singles and doubles that we mostly got."

  • "Food was great! I loved the chopped salad and the scallops melted in your mouth- the sauce had just the right seasoning too. The only negative was the view of the construction site and a ridiculously small amount of wine in the glass which cost $9. Overall, I will definitely go back and recommend it to others."
