Diner Reviews
  • "We went out with another couple and the tapas and main dishes were great."

  • "There were 8 adults in the party at the same table. We reserved for 6 but accomodations were made to seat 8. Could carry on a conversation with guitar music playing. Everyone was very happy with the food they ordered and the wine they drank. A good selection of Uruguayan wine."

  • "I first noticed this quaint restaurant a few months back as I descended from the train (they are right across the tracks from the station) and was attracted to it, but unable to sample it at the time. When friends came from out of town and wanted to meet in Manassas, we turned to OpenTable for advice and made the reservation without realizing it was the same cafe. It did not disappoint. All courses were very well prepared, using quality ingredients (the salmon was wild caught), and the waitresses kept an excellent balance, attentive without being overly solicitous. The wines and cocktails were superb. Although offering a somewhat limited wine and menu selection, there is certainly something to please most, at reasonable prices."

  • "First time to this restaurant we found on Open Table. We've been to many in the Old Town Manassas Area and had never been here. It was nice and small, service was great and the food was fabulous. Steaks were cooked nicely and garnished with just the right amount of sauces. The desserts were fabulous as well. We'll definitely be back when it warms up to eat on the patio."

  • "We have dined at City Square regularly and the food and service are usually good. Therefore, we decided to try their four course Valentines' Day menu, and came away very disappointed at the overall quality and tiny portions for the price ($59 each). The first course was a cold polenta square (2"x2"). Second course was a small cup of tomato soup: warm enough and ok taste. The entrée was billed as a small filet with grilled shrimp and Brussels sprouts. We each got one 1/2" slice of filet about 3" in diameter hiding three pea sized Brussels sprouts and three carrot nuggets, topped by two medium shrimp. Dessert was two teaspoons of chocolate mouse. We filled up on bread and coffee. If you go, order off the menu: we were robbed!"

  • "Best filet mignon my husband had ever tried. Went for Valentines Day and there was a candlelight dinner and roses on the table. All homemade everything, nothing comes from the freezer. My hat is off to their chef. A must try and perfect for a date night if you don't mind spending a little money. A++"

  • "My husband and I went to City Square for dinner on Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good. The live background music was a nice touch. We declined the pre-set dinner special and chose from the regular menu. The rock crab portabella ravioli and the rosemary tenderloin were superb! We will be back again!"

  • "We always enjoy City Square Cafe in Old Town Manassas. The food is always good and the menu changes seasonally. Outdoor dining is available in good weather, inside seating is small. The special menu events are always good."

  • "Jazz Nite - a lot of fun. Understand there will be more such events. We will be there. Good food. Fun to share with friends. Decent wine list and this special evening had special martinis."

  • "Your New Year's price was much to high for the food and service received. In addition, I do not favor automatic gratuities; they are presumptions. Tips are intended to reward good a fast service. To assume in advance that the tip should be 18% is simply a way of having the customer pay the salary the server. Lower your price for a new year dinner and lose the automatic gratuity."

  • "Took 2 friends to lunch here last week and, as always, it was fantastic. From our appetizers to lunch to our waiter, Jason, everything was totally yummy and service was top-notch! I have a few menu favorites but the specials are always so good too ~ very hard to choose. And the desserts... oh my! I had a blueberry bread pudding with a carmel sauce.... WOW! My hubby & I go here for spring thru fall evenings so we can sit outside on date night. It's also a fun place to go and eat outside with out son who so enjoys trains ~ we like to wave at the VRE commuters as they pass by ;-) This family/owners have created a gem of a place and looking forward to going back again real soon!"

  • "Food was good for a small, local spot. Good variety of tapas and entrees. Nothing outstanding but better than average across the board. Service was attentive, but felt somewhat rushed, tables are small and close together so wait staff always seemed to be interrupting to clear plates, serve, etc. somewhat aloof."

  • "Special fixed menu with wine parings was excellent. Using local "Farmer's Market" ingredients, well prepared, made this a satisfying evening out. The Virginia wine parings was an interesting twist to the meal. We will do it again!"

  • "City Square Café has long been one of our favorite old town restaurants. The wine selection is a bit limited, but the choices match up well with the various dishes. The brunch menu choices for Sunday mornings are superb. One of the notable attractions are the special events. These include wine, beer, and holiday specials with parings of wine or beer with the various dishes. The menu changes every few months, with new specials added/substituted. The price ranges are moderate. On Friday and Saturday nights, live music will entertain the guests."

  • "Some quotes from our group of 4: "Best filet I've had in years" "I can't wait to come here for brunch" (upon reading the brunch menu after dinner) "I have to share these crab hushpuppies?" The owners were absolutely charming, and we felt like welcomed guests. Wait staff was equally welcoming and personable."
