Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great night at the City Lobster. We were in New York on holiday and took advantage of the Restaurant Week offer. The menu gave us plenty of choice and the food was excellent. Our waiter, John deserves a special mention - he was attentive, humorous and good natured throughout the evening and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended."

  • "My initial visit was to check out this restaurant for Restaurant Week, but now it will become a regular dining location for my friends and I. Our waiter Christopher was absolutely fantastic! He was attentive, personal, sweet, and extremely knowledgeable."

  • "The service was good but not excellent. The food was good but I have had much better filet of sole elsewhere. My favorite part was the creme brule cheesecake. Absolutely amazing"

  • "My group of five sat at the bar for happy hour before going to our dining table. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. Once we were seated we ordered lobster, crab and steak. Each dish was absolutely delicious. The waitress was a 20 something who was a little condescending. She felt like she had to give my friends and I the definition of a carafe. That was just one incident out of many. Out of the wait staff she was the odd person out because everybody else from the host and hostess to the other waitresses and waiters were very nice and friendly. I will definitely be back for the delicious food but I won't sit in the 20 something's section."

  • "Waited 10 miniatures to be seated even with reservation. Had mussel for appetizer that took my appetite away. The worse mussel I ever ate. Sand in the mussel and taste not too fresh. My main dish is not much better. I expected a busy seafood place would have very fresh food that taste out of ocean, but the food seemed to be long dead before they cooked them. I finished my food because of my belief in not wasting food. It was a struggle for me to uphold my belief."

  • "The service was very good but the food was unremarkable. For the money there are many better seafood restaurants in New York"

  • "My go-to for midtown lunch dates/meetings. Great atmosphere a little bit steakhouse a little bit seafood haven. Fantastic service. Something for everyone from suits to shorts. Get the lobster roll or choose a live one from the tank. Nice wine list and great raw bar and bar specials."

  • "The food was mediocre; not bad but not memorable. The only memorable thing was that the restaurant was extremely hot and when I inquired about it the server told me she'd mention it to the manager but that nothing would be done about. And nothing was done about it. It was extremely uncomfortable. I will not be returning."

  • "I went here with my mother and teenage daughter before a show. I wanted a nice restaurant but not a stuffy restaurant that would have something for all our tastes. City lobster was perfect and delicious. And the service was fantastic. We felt very attended to without feeling rushed. I will definitely be returning."

  • "I RECOMMEND THE LOBSTER MASHED POTATOES. GREAT! PLAN TO GO AGAIN BEFORE RESTAURANT WEEK IS OVER."

  • "We went for restaurant week and it had many more options than most places in the city, even though there was an extra charge for some options, it was well worth it. We shared surf and turf and the food was amazing."

  • "First thing I must mention is that the service was impeccable. The staff was extremly friendly and our waiter was very attentive. The food was great and the prices were reasonable I will be visiting again."

  • "We went for an early lunch on the first day of restaurant week. There were good items from which to choose. I had the crab cake, which had lots of crab, no filler that I could taste or see. My cousin had salmon which was perfectly cooked. Me will remember this restaurant the next tiMe we are in NYC."

  • "Make sure to ask for Vanessa if you dine there. She was simply wonderful. Great recommendations on what to eat and she even opened my lobster for me! My mom, sister, niece and I ate there before a show. Three of us ordered the set price menu and one off the regular menu. Our appetizers were delicious - chowder, shrimp cocktail (huge shrimp!) and the oysters. For dinner, two had the oscar filet (unfortunately one was medium -well instead of medium) and I had the 2 pound lobster. The lobster was fabulous. Because we were going to a show - we did not send the steak back. Vanessa was very apologetic and gave us a free desert. Other than the over-cooked steak - we loved this restaurant and will definitely go back again, as well as recommend it."

  • "Near Time Sq. nice city-biz-after hrs -great ambiance. Standard raw menu: Little necks small but ok. Only 2 beef options, so "steakhouse" is misleading. Steak was ordered med rare but came black and blue, Chewy, tough cut essentially raw, with poor taste. Sent back. Wait staff Cautioned that cooking a new one would take a while. Meanwhile clams linguine had great taste, but topped with gritty steamed clams and a ton of canned tough clams. We both ate that, waiting for the re-cooked steak which came back cooked but still tough, with poor taste. We gave up. An observation: it looked like they seated couples who were not local at less than desirable tables, moved to still worse tables. Lots of promise and nice street view but just fizzled."

  • "My brother and niece were in town from California. My niece had never had lobster. My brother and his daughter ordered the 2 pound lobster. My brother enjoyed it but his daughter liked my bronzino better, so we switched plates. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful with meal selections and descriptions. The only drawback was the air conditioning was not working well and the restaurant was not as cool as we would have liked in spite of the ceiling fans."

  • "A great place for pre-theater dining and people watching. Our waiter was excellent and allowed us to linger until showtime. The food was excellent. A group of 12 had a table nearby and was easily accommodated. I highly recommend this restaurant for reasonably priced seafood at a Midtown location."

  • "I have been here for lunch before, very good for business lunches, this time my husband and I went for dinner Friday night before meeting family for post theater drinks. There were a few more tourists a lot bess business people. The food was good, our server extremely attentive and helpful. All in all a good start to the evening's events."

  • "This is a great restaurant to go to when you are going to a concert or event at Radio City Music Hall. Tell the waiter the time of your show and they will make sure to have you out the door and right on time. We went with fixed price menu and some had lobster, a few a NY Strip Steak and I had a perfectly cooked medium rare filet mignon. Desserts were done well with a nice presentation."

  • "We went here for an early dinner before a show. We made reservations and were met by very friendly hostess. Our server was extremely knowledgable about the menu and helped us with our choices. We started with the steamed seafood dumplings...very tasty, had a great sauce. We had linguini with littke neck clams, which my husband said was delicious and I had scallops which were cooked perfectly. I asked for no sauce and that wasn't a problem. We met two other couples sitting by us, both from CA who also enjoyed their meals."

  • "So the first time I ate here I was very disappointed. I would like to say thank you to management for reaching our and addressing my concerns and encouraging me to give it another try. This time I went with a group of five and service was 1000 times better. Shout out to Angela who was our waitress. I think she said it was her second week but she was wonderful. Making sure that food arrived promptly. Even returning the salmon that one person thought wasn't cooked enough and explaining to her why it was cooked that way while still accommodating her request. A good time was had by all. Glad I tried it again."

  • "Inept but friendly service, ridiculously small amount of crab for $42, all sides a la carte. Who do they think they are? My dirty gin martini came with vodka and no "dirt" to be found. The oysters were good."

  • "City Lobster had our reservation & greeted us friendly enough. a} they had no A/C b} they did have fans but they were minimal help for the stuffiness b} they tried to seat us at a small table in the back corner - where it was even more stuffy/muggy/warm - they did let us move to a front booth near a fan d} our service was less than pleasant - the waiter had no personality - did not go out of his way to make us feel comfortable or welcome. e) We got the Prix Fix combo - My husband got the filet of sole - it was about 1/4" thick if that........tasted ok but not much there, I got the 1 1/4lb baked lobster - it was tasteless and tough. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone else. Sorry"

  • "Lobsters were cooked perfectly & best drawn butter ever. Extremely disappointing lobster mashed potatoes & clam chowder. Oysters Rockefeller & the wedge salad with crispy shallots were great. 2lb min on lobsters @ $38/lb."
