A word from City Landing
City Landing is a contemporary, upscale-casual restaurant located at 255 State Street, serving lunch and dinner seven days a week with Sunday brunch. Open airy windows overlook Long Wharf and the Rose Kennedy Greenway; just seconds away from Faneuil Hall, the NE Aquarium and Harbor. A convivial and comfortable setting sees splashes of mint green and rich mahogany, accented by natural quartz stone inlaid with mosaic glass tiles and chic high end lighting. The menu features a large variety of American fare including thoughtful seafood dishes, artisan pizzettas, creative salads and a bounty of carefully crafted entrees produced from locally indigenous ingredients. The bar features small plate tapas, specialty cocktails, local distilleries, local brews on tap, and a reasonably priced wine list.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Great food and amazing lobster rolls. Found this place on trip advisor and it was pricier than the 2 "$$" listing but so glad we stayed."

  • "Ate outside for lunch where the whole seating area is nicely shaded at that time of day. Duck Bruschetta with Foie Gras was excellent. The baked Lamb Bolognese was also very tasty. Wine list by the glass was OK, but lacked spicy reds (Red Zin, Shiraz) which are only available by the bottle."

  • "Had such a wonderful experience at City Landing this Sunday! Everything was exquisite from the decor to the food and service! We had the lobster rolls for an appetizer and I was blown away--so delicious! For our entrees we had the lamb bolognese and buffalo meatloaf, and cleaned our plates it was so delicious! The service was outstanding throughout our time at City Landing! Thank you for making our evening special!!"

  • "The food was really good, service was nice, but our whole dinner experience was really soured by the mommy group with 10 kids under the age of 5 screaming and letting them run around the whole place and climbing on the furniture."

  • "The only good thing this place has to offer are the pizzas. The rest of the food is nothing's special. The service was very slow even though the restaurant wasn't full at all. Next time I would consider doing take out instead of going in."

  • "The whole experience was very pleasant. Waitstaff was very attentive, the food was delicious and the right temperature. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside. We will go back again."

  • "No parking whatsoever. Wait to be seated. Waitor took a long time to initially come to table, 15 mins to get our drinks, whenever we were lucky enough to see our Waitor across the room would have to get his attention, even the manager saw our frustration but he didn't even come over to check on things, food was the only good thing but not worth returning nor recommending."

  • "We live in Boston suburbs and had a great meal last summer and returned again for a beautiful night along the water. Great menu and food. We sat outside and enjoyed the crowds. Pretty weak service however with a very junior staff."

  • "Good to find an establishment that focuses on food quality more than quantity. Choice was excellent and service was discreet but very good. Well worth a visit. Wine choice excellent with a whole range of global wines to match your food choice. Keep up the good work."

  • "We had dinner there last night and I picked the place based on my mum being vegetarian and being quite hard to cater for. That and my guested wanted to sample Boston seafood, this place was an excellent choice and we all had a great meal. Service was excellent despite the place being very busy. The only down side was the nose level which was so high we were shouting to hold a conversation around a round table. Would go back but would try to find a quiet corner to eat in"

  • "Took a colleague and his wife visiting from India to the restaurant. Has a very appealing vegetarian menu. Meal and drinks were ideal for weekday meal."

  • "Really enjoyed having great cocktails with friends. The drinks were great and the food was delicious however it took 25 minutes to get drinks each round and the service was slow. The server also put in the wrong menu item for one of the dinner attendees and and did not take it off the bill till we requested he did for his mistake."

  • "I came to City Landing with my family for Father's Day brunch and we had a great time. My sister and I got the french toast, my girlfriend got the shrimp and grits and dad got the eggs Benedict. All of the food was delicious and we had a very enjoyable time sitting outside people watching. The service was a bit slow but we were in no rush and were enjoying each others company so it wasn't an issue."

  • "The food was good, I wasn't blown away but I actually came for the drinks. The first time I came we had a wonderful bartender. We thought he might be working so we brought our cousin for her birthday. We ordered old fashions, they were extremely strong and hard to drink, extremely bitter. My cousin went to the bartender to ask if she can get her drink re-poured and the bartender was extremely rude. He told her he didn't know what to tell her, that's the way the drink is which was a lie. I just don't understand why he couldn't make the drink over for her and if he didn't know how to make it, why not just say so? other than that our waiter was nice and attentive but seemed a little overwhelmed. "

  • "It is so nice that they have a wonderful gluten free menu! Any dish is amazing! Gluten free diners don't have to settle!"

  • "We were with a group and had a fun evening. However, we felt the food was not worth the price. Preparations were basic; salad was overdressed, fish & chips were nothing more than ordinary; shrimp & grits was good, but heavy on the grits. The service was good, but somewhat inconsistent: our waiter took a long time to take drink orders and disappeared for a few minutes while taking orders. A cocktail ordered later in the evening was forgotten about, but was gotten right away when we spoke up. However, the food came quickly after order, our water glasses were always filled, and plates correctly served and bussed. A very enjoyable evening with a large group, but don't expect to be wowed by the food."

  • "The food was very good. A bit pricey for the portion size and quality given how many fine restaurants there are in Boston. When we were being seated, asked for a different table and was told those were for reservations. We had a reservation, too...we weren't walk ins. Did not like that especially since the other four-person tables did not get filled until we were on our way out. Our waiter was good but not great. One person in the party ordered a salad but he didn't hear that. We told him we wanted to enjoy the rest of our cocktails before dessert but he brought us the dessert menu within a minute of us saying we wanted some time to relax. We still gave him a hefty tip only because the service was good but it definitely needs improving."

  • "Have been here several times, usually with business clients. Large spacious bar and restaurant conveniently located at the corner of State Street and Atlantic Avenue. Food is always excellent, including appies and entries, although pretty quiet and sparsely attended mid-week."

  • "The service was outstanding. The food ranged from very good to great. It was a great find if you want something a bit more upscale and relaxing, but still kid friendly, around the aquarium or before a sunset cruise."

  • "Our last night in Boston we ate at City Landing based on reviews and location. It seemed many of the patrons were there to celebrate special occasions. We had an early dinner and the restaurant was not very crowded. The overall ambience was quiet. The menu was somewhat disappointing in the entree section. The selection of fresh seafood especially disappointing in comparison to Legal Seafood next door. The overall experience was okay."

  • "Best mainstream GF and vegan menu and food (presentation and taste) I have fond in Boston yet! Service impeccable, very clean, contemporary vibe."

  • "The wait staff was very accommating. My dinner companion and I ordered appetizer and dinner to share. They thought enough to bring extra plates for sharing."

  • "Across from the hotel that we usually stay at when visiting Boston and has been a pleasant surprise after the previous favorite relocated. Was alone so planned in sitting in bar but crowded due to a hockey game. Comfortably seated in the dining room. Ordered a salad and the risotto, which was only on the bar menu, but they accommodated me and allowed me to order. Waiter was so-so, brought the wrong salad. Ordered the recommended coconut cream torte, which was nothing special. However, will return due to interesting menu, usually good service, convenience, and my being comfortable dining alone."

  • "I brought a co-worker here for a lunch who's a vegetarian. She loved the abundance of options she had to choose from. She got the squash pizza and I got the veggie burger. Both were delicious. "

  • "The food was good, although I wouldn't call it gourmet. My party fo 3 all had very good salads, appetizers and dinners. The service was very solid, despite what i read form some of the reviews. My biggest complaint is the decor is a bit shabby (seats worn, etc.). Overall, a nice dinner."

  • "I was searching for a restaurant for a group I hosted recently; my Australian colleague said it was ' lovely' and my Indian colleague found something attractive to eat. I am gluten free so that worked well for me, too. Enjoyed the food; colleague from Washington DC recommends the scallops. Bright, friendly space. Waiter was attentive, although as a native Bostonian - well, Boston has many colorful characters working and running restaurants, and for better or worse they don't seem likely to be working here. Good for a business dinner and for an interesting variety of food."

  • "While traveling in Boston, City Landing was a great find. My dinner partner needed a gluten free menu and City Landing's is extensive compared to other restaurants. Our waiter was also the bartender. He was engaging and informative about the city and food and gave us great service. The food was excellent as well. I would definitely recommend!"

  • "They have an extensive vegetarian and gluten free menu which I enjoyed. It's hard to find a lot of options in regular restaurants, so I'm happy to have found this place and know I will be back. "

  • "Went here for my birthday with my girls, both vegetarians. Excited about all the veggie options. Disappointed in food quality. I am a meat eater, and ordered skirt steak. I also cook and know that this is not a top cut, however, have eaten many times elsewhere with far superior results. This was tough and chewy, when it came. My girls' meals were just so-so, fairly flavorless. Server was new, but made too many mistakes for me. Comped part of the meal, but overall, I was very disappointed."

  • "My daughter was thrilled that there was a separate vegetarian menu for her."

  • "Walking along the wharf, our group of 3 wanted a bite to eat. We had already been to the local chain everyone says to go to if visiting Boston. We saw City Landing, liked the setting and menu, and gave it a try. Linen, silver, and fresh flowers. Everything met our needs and more. Food was delicious and presentation noteworthy of picture postings. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Worth a return visit and we'd recommend it others. "

  • "The food was consistently underwhelming. The tuna was the worst I ever had. Not sure what was worse, the food or the service. Never to return. Too bad as it is a great spot/location. "

  • "Had read many positive reviews of City Landing and was looking for a civilized dining venue that welcomed children. Food was ok, but overall experience was disappointing because of the lacklustre service. One waiter tending to a half-filled restaurant. I prefer low-key service, but City Landing missed the mark. Little things make a difference - make sure guests have the drinks menu before asking what they want to drink. Don't forget to bring water and bread if that's what you typically offer. One pat of butter for five people is not enough. If the group has ordered cocktails, please ask them if they would like another beverage with their meal. Don't forget the one extra side ordered and bring it when plates are almost empty. "

  • "We found City Landing to please both omnivores and vegans alike, with plentiful options for both in a great setting. "

  • "My husband loved the Buffalo meatloaf. My clams with pasta was well seasoned and tasty. Overall a great experience. Wine prices not crazy high with a wide variety. "

  • "I fine dine regularly and found this place to be extremely contradicting. It has a nice atmosphere and the food is great but my family and I were horribly disappointed by our service. Our waiter was a young male in his 20s- he was rude and barely knew his information; every time we asked a question about the menu he referred us to "page 3".. I think people at fast food chains know their menu better than he did. I am a vegetarian and he brought me my pizza with bacon on it then blamed it on me for not telling him no bacon, which I had. The buss girl spilt water all over our table and on my dads expensive jacket and didn't even apologize. For spending 1k on dinner we were disturbed by the service we received and would never return.
