Diner Reviews
  • "Went recently for dinner for my birthday and had a fantastic time! The stuffed zucchini was amazing and light. The pizzas are eclectic and delicious. Defintely check it out if you're in the Nashville area!"

  • "Excellent food in a atmosphere with a hip vibe. City House is hard to find. We drove by it three times until we finally asked someone on the street to give us directions. Yes, I was with my husband. The menu is small with hard to understand names for nearly every item. Even after the server explained what each item is (it's a small menu) we had no clue what we would get and ordered on faith. We were not disappointed. We shared small plates style. Started off with a cheesy tomatoe-y pancake thing. Yummmm. Next had a ground pork loaf slice that was fried. Beyond Yummmm!!! There was something unidentifiable in the flavor and I found out it was the crispy pork skin. Don't miss this dish. Also had the trout done to perfection. Go, enjoy!"

  • "We heard about the city house restaurant while watching the travel channel. When we were in Nashville in July, we knew we wanted to dine at the city house. We ordered some of the dishes that were featured on the travel channel, Gnocchi, Octopus salad, homemade sausage, pizza and almond pound cake. Everything was delicious and fresh and exceeded our expectations. The service was excellent and would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Unique place in an up and coming neighborhood. People obviously come for the food and not the décor. Loved the food and simple preparations that allowed the freshness to come thru. Wait staff are all friendly and into the food that they serve. Only issue we had is we sat on the screened porch and the fans are like sitting in a wind storm! They are too close to the table and do not have multiple settings. We were the last table and asked for the fans to be turned off but management said NO! Kind of spoiled a nice evening."

  • "1) Great cocktails, knowledgable/friendly bartenders 2) Yummy pizza 3) Cool ambiance - apparently this space is a made-over church school."

  • "Should have trusted my instincts and ordered something other than the chuck steak. No one and no amount of wostershire can make that cut of meat taste like anything but what it is.. suitable for roasting with carrots and onions only. Not pleased at all. Others at the table enjoyed their selections but I did not enjoy mine in the least. The room we were placed in was extremely loud and a bit stuffy. Not a very enjoyable evening for me, but fortunately my guests were not quite as unhappy. The only thing I could recommend was our very knowledgeable and attentive waiter."

  • "Lucky enough to snag an early reservation last Friday evening. Had the venerable Belly Ham pizza & one with anchovies. Both were stellar. Appetizer of corn, kohlrabi, and a pickle dressing that was remarkably simple & scrumptious. Dessert was one of Rebekah's menu mainstays - Almond Ricotta Pound cake w/ lemon ricotta gelato & a housemade lemon marmalade. This was startlelingy good... testament to why she's the best pastry chef in Nashville. Ryan - our server - was once again friendly, helpful, and a pleasure all around. Can't recommend this place enough!"

  • "Nick- knowledgeable, attentive, enthusiast wait-staff. Guided us through cocktails, appetizer, dinners and dessert Cocktails delicious and unique Appetizers and entrees well plated and delicious. Numerous in house and local products. Desserts were traditional southern, but somehow unique"

  • "City House is simply the best. We went for yet another Sunday dinner which is when they break from the standard menu & cook whatever suits their mood. It's always delicious and never fails to satisfy. Can't wait for our next visit!"

  • "Every time we are in town from chicago. We book at city house. Their dishes are so unique and full of flavor. The drinks are fantastic and strong."

  • "We were greeted then told to step inside to wait just "a minute" before we would be taken to table "42" but then ignored while we waited for 20 minutes. They then asked who we were and I reintroduced us while they then told us we would have to wait another half hour. I protested a bit and they then sent us to the afore mentioned table "42." Unprofessional and didn't build a great experience for us."

  • "They were out of food....even pasta. One person at our table was served and finished before the others got their food. There wasn't much food served on the plate."

  • "Wonderful food, menu is a little small and the upper room was miserably hot. Service was very good. Cocktails were excellent"

  • "Another great night at the City House. We each had something different and all four were wonderful. First time for the chuck streak. It was awesome! The service was spot on and the bar tender was teaching me about the special products she was using. You can never go wrong at the City House."

  • "Another great meal at our favorite (and regular) restaurant. This time it was for my birthday. I had the cornbread gnocchi with white beans and summer squash, my wife had the chard pizza with an egg on top. Cocktails to start, poppyseed cake to finish. A great meal, and everyone was as friendly and welcoming as ever."

  • "Very cool vibe here. Sunday night supper was an eclectic fun menu. Don't miss the duck fat popcorn with sumac. The pizzas were outstanding. Out of the way place but they were very accommodating and called a taxi right away. Casual but still sophisticated"

  • "This is the type of restaurant that raises the bar other restaurants. We had excellent service from a knowledgable staff. The cocktails and wine list looked amazing. ( I don't drink but we sat at the bar so we saw every drink that was made.) The food was simple, made with fresh ingredients and just superb. We especially enjoyed the popcorn drizzled with chicken fat and dusted with sumac. We will make it a point to go back to city house every time we make it to Nashville."

  • "We went for Sunday dinner. The Sunday menu changes weekly and offers unique share-ables. I didn't know that was the case when making the reservation, so I look forward to returning for the full menu experience. Great service and great cocktails!"

  • "Was a bit disappointed with City House. First parking - most places downtown or Germantown have complimentary valet. This was street parking which we found but still. Then it is was so loud. I mean screaming loud. Then the service was pretty poor. Not the waiters fault but just way too few people on staff. Food would come super fast then super slow. Coffees came about 15 minutes before dessert. Just not well done. Food was pretty good though. Would come back for a casual weeknight pizza but not worthy of a weekend dinner."

  • "The service was super friendly right from the moment we arrived, making recommendations and answering questions. The food was outstanding! Really interesting flavor combinations that were reminiscent of the southern classics but reinvented in totally innovative and delicious ways- we loved it!"

  • "I was very happy with the quality of food that we received during our visit to City House. It was all quality food that was made very well. However, I wouldn't go back just because I don't think think that the quantity of food we received matched with the price we were charged. I am ok with paying for good food. I just don't think that we got all our bang for our buck."

  • "I have been to the City House before and really enjoyed everything about it. This second visit was even better! Great service for a creative menu- both in the bar and dining room! On top of that, the location, decor, and energy are what puts this place over the top of others. I love everything about this place! I just wish i had a bigger appetite to try more of the menu offerings. Guess I will have to come back for a third time! "

  • "Appetizers, entrees, dessert were OUTSTANDING! It's a creative 'italian-southern fusion' menu & everything was consistently presented in terms of flavor and originality. "

  • "Food was good. Beware of tricky waitresses who will try and rack up your bill with $3 egg add ons to pizza and not take ownership when questioned about bill. The customer is always right."

  • "My boyfriend and I took my daughter and her husband to City House for a birthday dinner--she chose the restaurant. We had all been to City House many times and agree that the food is spectacular. On this visit I decided to try the Margarita pizza because I heard that it was so good--alas, it really was nothing special. It wasn't up to par with all the other spectacular dishes I have eaten there. We had a wonderful dinner anyway, my daughter's trout was to die for! I love this place, we are definitely foodies and are frequent dinner guests here!!! Go there! Just go for something other than their run of the meal pizza. :)"

  • "The food was delicious. Service very good. We say in the upstairs room to the left of the kitchen. It was so hot we were all sweating! Hurries through our meal toget out and get some air. Unfortunately, that overpowered what could have been a perfect dining experience. "

  • "My experience at City House was not one that I would like to happen again. The food was less than average and the service was just ok. Our server did not know the menu very well and I don't think he smiled once. I liked the concept of a lot of the food items but the delivery/ingredients were very poor. The food here is way overpriced for the quality you get. Nashville has too many others amazing restaurants to waste your money/time at City House. "

  • "The food was amazing, and the wine list was really good. The cocktails are a unique blend of flavors and really good. If you really can't stand a loud restaurant, it may not be the place for you. The noise level for most people, however, should not deter you from enjoying one of the gems of the Nashville restaurant scene. I haven't had that good of food and drink in a long time. "

  • "After being warmly greeted by our waitress, we ordered drinks and chose the kale salad as our appetizer. It was fresh and delicious, and big enough for two to share. For my entree I selected the gnocchi and my husband, the house made pork sausage. Both were extremely tasty, and, even more delicious when combined! Again, more than enough of each to share. For dessert we chose the rhubarb crumb pie. Yum!! We enjoyed the ambiance, decor, and the open kitchen. The waitress was very gracious and knowledgable, and even called for a cab after our meal for the quick trip to downtown where we finished off our evening with lots of great music! I highly recommend City House and look forward to eating there again on our next trip to Nashville."

  • "My girlfriend and I went here after work to catch up. The server was so knowledgeable and was able to pinpoint things that we would like just from asking us a few questions and talking to us a bit. This was invaluable as we had never seen some of the things offered on the menu, but didn't want to"pay it safe". He was able to recommend some great cocktails in the same way. We finished dinner with a poppy seed cake that had fresh strawberries and house made whipped cream, absolutely delightful. Everything was delicious and my only complaint was that we didn't have room for more! "

  • "My dining experience at the City House was not pleasant. The price of everything, which for Nashville is common but for a normal person is high, was extravagant. Their cocktails were fair at best, and with The Oak Bar and The Patterson House in town if you're going to have a so called mixologist he/she better possess a talent for bartending. My cocktails were so heavy on mixers I was left wondering if it was a cocktail or just bizarre juice. The chicken I had was so greasy I was honestly disgusted. The pizza my wife ordered was barely fair. It had no sauce, just various cheeses, and the ham they topped it with was extremely fatty and very sparse. Though I like the local food movement, this place is not the best representative of it."

  • "City House's focus on quality ingredients and simpler presentation hits the mark with me. Whether entertaining friends or out of town business travelers, this is a gem for dinner."

  • "I visited on a Sunday during a girls' weekend in Nashville, and this meal was the highlight of our trip. Service was spot on, wine was great, and the food was beyond delicious. Just when we thought the meal couldn't get any better, dessert blew us away. Don't miss it!"
