Diner Reviews
  • "We really liked City Hall, and we had a terrific lunch after attending Good Friday services at Trinity Church on Wall Street. But it makes me mad when a restaurant charges extra for the sides. The entrees were fairly priced, but they came with nothing. Couldn't they can't put a couple of dollars worth of beans or broccoli or carrots on the side with a scoop of rice or potatoes? It just seems cheap and frankly a rip off to have to pay $11 for some sauteed kale or French fries. I'm not sure I would hurry back. "

  • "I've been to City Hall many times and was sad to see it has run its course. The food and service were still very good, but it was quite slow and it changed the vibe of the establishment."

  • "City Hall is a gem to find in the downtown area. The restaurant was nice a quiet, which was perfect for my dinner with clients. We each had the delectable burger, shared crispy tender onion rings and practically got into a fight sharing the creamy mac 'n cheese. It was my first time at the restaurant, I will absolutely return, many times."

  • "I'm always looking for a QUIET restaurant where conversation is easy and we don't have to shout to hear each other. Make a reservation in advance, request a booth. Service is lovely, food is good, with a nice range of options. I really like the burger, for example. Salads are fresh and delicious. Etc. Also, I understand they have a party room, which I haven't seen, but it is good to keep in mind."

  • "City Hall is our "go to" restaurant when entertaining clients and/or when we're in need of excellent American food and very fine wine. While the menu varies somewhat by season, the familiar items that I usually rely on are almost always perfect. The Thursday night we were at City Hall was a quiet one - some nights are raucous, but not this one - and service was a tad sleepy; but we'll continue to treasure the restaurant's ambiance and usual excellence."

  • "Came here during restaurant week for a nice lunch and was pleased way beyond my expectations. Not only were the restaurant menu options excellent, but the quality and portion sizes were just as stellar. Every item in every dish was prepared with such detail both in appearance and taste. The fried oysters (on regular menu) stole the show - large portion, unbelievably delicious and only $15. Great drink menu and wine list. Huge, spacious and inviting atmosphere. Incredibly nice and welcoming staff, including the chef/owner who stays in the dining area to help the staff and greet the customers. A++ and definitely on my top list for NYC!"

  • "slow service for lunch on restaurant week. Lunch = 2+ hours."

  • "We had the restaurant week menu as it was still offered as the last day of the week. The appetizer was almost entree sizes. the waiter can be a bit pushy at times- almost deciding for us what we wanted for desert or pushing us in having coffee."

  • "Food was very good, Dining room very comfortable and quiet. Service was a bit perfunctory."

  • "The food was well seasoned and presented attractively. The waiter hovered attentively and kept the coffee flowing; staff never let the water get below 2/3. The lamb chops were wonderful. The lemon cake with butter cream icing was beyond perfect."

  • "went out for a family birthday dinner (early evening), and they were able to accommodate for a 15-month old baby (they had high chairs!) service was great and everyone commented on how good the food was. i had the restaurant week menu -- the duck was juicy and well seasoned, and the lemon cake was heavenly. the staff even presented a birthday candle for dessert upon learning by chance that it was a birthday dinner. lastly, for a parent of a young baby, to find a place like this in the city is really a treat. we will be back when we need another nice family meal/celebration in the city!"

  • "For me this is my "go to" business lunch place for serious business near City Hall and the court houses. The better thing is that the staff understands that as well. The food is excellent macros the board and the variety insures there is something for any diner so you don't have to worry if the other party has any strong dislikes. It also is not a down town tourist trap so you don't have t worry about obnoxious crowds. It is a fine dining experience that will only reflect well on you when taking a client there."

  • "We took friends to City Hall because we have enjoyed the food and wine on several occasions. They also loved the ambiance, food and drinks. They offered a nice variety for Restaurant Week and no one walked away disappointed. We plan on returning with more friends."

  • "This used to be a good neighborhood spot. I was so embarrassed when my salad arrived. It was $26 for a Mediterranean with lamb salad. The lamb looked as if they bought it from a Halal cart. And the size of the salad was ridiculous. Very disappointing..."

  • "great selection of oysters - perfectly shucked - not a piece of shell in any bite. Pleasant, Knowledgeable wait staff. Food was delicious. Best of all was the fact that the tables were large enough and far enough apart that private conversations are possible."

  • "City hall certainly deserve high credit! Chef meir his doing a great job on the menu as well on hospitality. Excellent shell fish and fine meat. The wine list is broad giving a large selection of good to fine wines with reasonable price tag. Lower level has amyzing function hall for up to 200 people."

  • "The service was terrible., Our table of 6 was flat out ignored. Good food can only make up for so much. This was a big disappointment. Neither me nor anyone in my party will be back."

  • "My family and I enjoyed every moment of our dining experience at City Hall. We were hoping to spend our New Year's Eve eating a delicious dinner in the city, and although we decided to go somewhere we've never been before, we were not disappointed. Rather, we were very pleasantly surprised at how wonderfully friendly the waiters and the chef turned out to be. On top of that, the food was more delicious than we could have expected, and the restaurant setting really completed the dining experience. I will definitely be coming back."

  • "Very quiet for Saturday Brunch, only two other tables. Bloody Mary bar was fun, food was generally very good. Had the eggs benedict w/ short ribs. Not really a good concept as short ribs are not really flavorable enough to put it over the top. Might want to re-think this one."

  • "Food is good and reasonably priced for a "nice restaurant." The wait staff is very attentive without being pushy. They brought over a few "on the house" items which was a very nice gesture. A good choice for a business lunch downtown."

  • "No joke. These are some of the best fresh oysters you can find anywhere. What a treat. The lightly friend tiger shrimp were over the top perfect. Who wants deep friend anything? These were just lightly dipped so as not to distract from the succulence of the shrimp themselves. Two veggie sides: mini brussels sprouts and cubed squash were lovely. Tuna and salmon entres were fabulous because the fish was so wonderful. Topped off with dessert -- lovely meal. City Hall remains consistently excellent."

  • "We were staying in the Tribeca area and wanted a restaurant we could walk to. The OT ratings from previous reviewers were spot-on. We had a great meal (including the cold seafood app and desserts) and wonderful service. Our work group is a bunch of foodies and we would strongly recommend City Hall. If it had been a warmer evening we probably would have sit outside..."
