Diner Reviews
  • "My friend and I had lunch at City Crab. Although we didn't order from the special Restaurant Week Menu, I was impressed by what a good deal it was. As usual, our food was great. And even though there were quite a crowd celebrating Restaurant Week, the service was attentive with no pressure to rush us thru our meal. It was a wonderful, relaxing and tasty lunch."

  • "We've been eating here for years and it is still one of the better, moderately priced eateries in the neighborhood."

  • "Although we arrived for Sunday dinner at 7:00 PM during Restaurant Week NYC, restaurant was already out of lobster (and several other items on the regular menu). Food was very bland, little if any seasoning. The crab croquettes starter tasted more like cold fried bread. The chilled seafood salad, comprised of mussels and clams in shells with a few small shrimp, was OK, but left me puzzled as to why the dish was called a salad. We very rarely send food back to the kitchen; however, the swordfish entrees were not even defrosted. The second try produced decent swordfish, a dish on a bed of corn and other vegetables which could be a great summer dish, but still lacked proper seasoning. Through all of this, our server was delightful."

  • "The food was really delicious, but the service was incredibly bad. Our waitperson was no where to be found. Took twenty minutes just to get water on the table. Also, many of the menu items were no longer available. At 6:30 pm! It's not cheap, so I expected better service and that the menu would still be available in the early evening. Used to love the place, but will probably not go as often any more."

  • "We were late to the restaurant. No problem for this restaurant. Maybe because we went there for lunch. Either way, the hostess was very friendly and courteous. Our waiter was just as friendly and provided us with exceptional service. This is my second visit; once with a group for dinner and this time for lunch. Each time I enjoyed myself immensely. Yea for City Crab for great food, quality service and a delightful dining experience."

  • "If you love seafood then this is the place to go. Great king crab legs and excellent shrimp scampi. Our favorite are the buffalo shrimp. They are simply amazing! It's very noisy but that's just the way it is nits a huge space with a lot of people. We usually go for special occasions because it can be pricey depending on what you order. We got a bit of a discount because we receive birthday coupons because we registered our email and birth dates with them. Well worth it!!"

  • "Went for restaurant week. Was a great value. Quality of food and service were great. The portions were a little on the small side. Would have liked to sit at a nicer table. We were stuck in the back but there were open tables throughout the restaurant. Despite that, we had a lovely dinner!"

  • "VERY NOISY, servers so busy they hardly have time to present the menu. Busboy hovered over us to clear plates. No timr for conversation or to enjoy the food."

  • "I came here to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. The food was great and I enjoyed the night."

  • "$80 for a 2.5 lb lobster, $36 for a carafe of Sangria, $12 for a shot of tequila. For these prices you can eat at the best restaurants in NYC. Good food and service but not worth it. Felt violated."

  • "We had a nice nice meal during restaurant week at City Crab.. I particularly liked the 1st course. Main course was good also . A 1 1/4 pound lobster was offered. It was sweet but a new shell lobster and not as packed with meat as a hard shell.A bargain at that price however. Drinks a little pricey at 14 $ a piece, but it is what it is."

  • "Great place to go to. One of the better restaurants in Union Square"

  • "There were 8 of us in the party and we were excited to have the stuffed lobster from the restaurant week menu. We were seated at 8pm and we told that they are out of the stuffed lobster on the restaurant week menu AND the dungeoness crab. The whole restaurant was out of lobster! There were nothing to replace the lobster dish and the restaurant was very unapologetic about it. They actually said "it's restaurant week, people love lobster, it's not our fault." I'm a chef and I know that we would always order extra items that we think diners would choose for restaurant week in particular. There was also a SCREW and a dead snail in our oysters. Better off going to the Boil or the Claw"

  • "The service was great, the food and drinks delicious. I just wish the owners would upgrade the decor. It's so dark in the restaurant. We wanted to take pictures but it was too dark to do so."

  • "The food that I ordered was great - ceviche and a wedge salad. Not extraordinary, but great. The cocktail was just okay. I'm not sure my friends enjoyed their food as much as I did. My friend had a steak and he didn't really care for it - imagine they do better on the seafood than the meat."

  • "Wonderful staff and amazing dinning. Must try crab soup and the lobster stuffed crab."

  • "Went for restaurant week and the prix fixe menu was pretty limited. I didn't particularly care for the food, but the drinks were great and the waiter was wonderful. My sister is a seafood lover and enjoyed the stuffed lobster, I had the halibut which was good ... didn't care for the sides it was served with. The dessert was so so. I wouldn't go there again except for drinks. The good rating is for the drinks and the service."

  • "Three friends got together after a couple of years and it happened to be restaurant week. The special menu was awesome, great food, generous portions, wonderful service. Never rushed. Overall excellence, I highly recommend City Crab and Seafood."

  • "The food was excellent but it would have been nicer to have the lobster in the Restaurant week menu with vegetables instead of fries. Our server was magnificent."

  • "My wife and I have been coming here for a couple of years now. She loves seafood and I just enjoy food period. But this is one of our favorite places to eat. It's a little on the pricier side, but well worth it. We ordered the calamari, the lobster bake and sirloin steak on this night. We had originally come for restaurant week but didn't like what they had to offer on the menu so we ordered normal dishes instead. The waitress was great and very attentive. The food was amazing. My wife loved the lobster. The steak was great as well. My friends kid me for ordering steak at a seafood place, but it was good. Will definitely continue to dine here."

  • "Seafood is very good. My favorite is the Crab Pot, a messy but well prepared meal. It is a fun place. lots of noise and activity going on. They have a great birthday special. Small negatives to note: it is very noisy, the restroom locations are not convenient, and it is somewhat pricey. But I will definitely be back."

  • "Sat at the raw bar and had a substantial quantity of the freshest oysters and clams. Add some Sauvignon Blanc to the list and it couldn't have been better. The wait staff and the maitre'd were exceptional and very engaging. Just added to the enjoyment. No complaints from us and looking forward to our next visit. Cheers!"

  • "Our server was awesome. It was a crab place, kind of low key so I was surprised that our server knew so much about the wine. I'm pretty sure her name was Michele. Crab legs were awesome. So was Oreo ice cream cake. Wow"

  • "Everything was delish...In a strange way it reminded me of an "upscale" Red Lobster, sounds strange but the ambiance wasn't what I expected so maybe that was the reason....The Bolognese was amazing! Service was good..."

  • "Fresh, excellent sea food. Our party of five had four lobsters and one jumbo prawn dinner with caesar salads; everybody happy. Key lime pie dessert was great and even the coffee was good."

  • "My husband and I love city crab. We have had brunch, dinner and happy hours there. The happy hour deals are great - half off drinks and apps. This week the restaurant had a half price lobster promotion. The waffle entree at brunch is delicious and huge! City Crab is often our go-to place when we want a light bite. We really wish there were one on the Upper West Side so it would be closer to where we live!"
