  • "I hadn't been to City Café in about 3-4 years or so and was quite taken aback pleasantly when I walked through the doors and the layout had changed. The food was still as good as it was the last time as was the service. Now it has this great ambience and look to add to its charm. I can't wait to return."

  • "Went to City Cafe with some girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. Making the reservations online was a cinch, they offer free valet parking, the food and service was outstanding. Definitely add City Cafe to your list of places to try (and return)!"

  • "City Cafe was very good. We shared the meatless nachos. Excellent! I had the steak frites with the Gouda fries. The steak was hard to cut but flavored well. The Gouda fries were great though. I would definitely go back but don't think I would get the same entree again."

  • "I was looking for a place near the train station to have a quick but nice lunch for me and my friend. We had about an hour and a half. The reservation was at noon and we were greater and seated quickly. The menu had some fun things on it such as a fruit and yogurt parfait and fresh salads. We received our drinks quickly but had to wait for a bit prior to ordering. This did not delay us and we received our orders in a timely manner. The food was excellent. We didn't get desert but there were some nice selections. All in all I really enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and location. I would recommend the place for friends and I would go back...in fact I wanted to take another friend the next day (but we were a bit far away). Good choice!"

  • "I have been going to the City Cafe for 15 years and it hhas the freshes food and the best service in the city. It is our "go to" place when we want a great dinner for sure."

  • "My date and I paid $17.00 dollars each (we ordered the same meal) for a tiny piece of salmon about as wide as my three fingers served on a cheap hamburger bun. You also served two slices of gross and burnt bacon, which is not normal for a supposedly healthy meal like salmon. The french fries were the lowest quality imaginable, like the kind they serve at fast food restaurants. Since I'm the one that suggested your restaurant for our first meeting, thanks for helping to make a great first impression! I had to literally apologize for the poor quality of your food more than once! I promise I'll never step foot inside your establishment as long as I live!"

  • "The food was decent and our server was wonderful but the hostess was extremely rude and unpleasant."

  • "The food was delicious, the portions were large, the pricing was very reasonable and the setting is energetic (on the loud side). What's not to like? Will return as long as it's this good."

  • "Spoke to a friend about going to the City Cafe. She previewed the menu online and was happy to find items that could meet the needs of her restrictive diet. Nice website btw... easy to navigate. Nice menu! I made reservations through OpenTable and was seated immediately upon arrival. The interior had undergone some great changes since I was there many years ago. Our waiter was prompt & attentive during our meal (I believe his name was Sam - super nice). My friend order the 'Vegetable and egg white omelet', while I had the 'Grand Marnier French Toast'. I also had a perfectly mixed Cosmopolitan followed by a Fox Barrel Blackberry Pear Cider. Thanks City Cafe for a great brunch experience. I am sure dinner would be just as delightful."

  • "The hostess and waiter were great. As were the food, ambiance and service. We love everything about the restaurant except the restrooms. There are only 2, located in very tight quarters and little room to wait. At one point is was in line behind 3 people."

  • "As always, the City Cafe was a perfect place for our party of five to meet upstairs, where it is quieter to talk and shmooze. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer. She did not make us feel hurried in any way. We got to visit over our drinks and talk for quite a while. The food came promptly. My husband had the Baltimore Club again and I had the crab cakes. We both agreed the crab cakes were not as good as they used to be. Otherwise, a perfect evening. We will be back. As we left, we loved seeing all the people dining outside at tables with music playing softly for them."

  • "I went with a group on a Monday night and had an amazing experience. Our server was very attentive and personable. We started with the mini crab cakes and the lobster mac-and-cheese, which were really tasty. For dinner we lucked out that it was steak night! Probably the best steak deal in the city... you get your choice of steak with two sauces and two sides for around $17 a person. I had the flat iron with grilled zucchini and mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and really tender and the zucchini was very delicious. For desert I HIGHLY recommend the pistachio creme brulee, it was the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner! I will definitely be coming back!"

  • "City Cafe is great however dining there Sunday, June 1st was not pleasant due to the waitress who was short, rude and totally ungracious! Too bad as everyone else is so nice! We did tell her and the manager heard our disappointment in our treatment. She needs an attitude adjustment! I believe her name is Heidi."

  • "Excellent, The Atmosphere, The Food, The Waitstaff. All Was Great, I Particularly Liked That Could Stick To Healthy Eating Without Sacrificing Flavor. Dessert Was Decadent And Worth The Calories. We Walked From The Myerhoff Before Out Concert And Made I Back In Time For The Show"

  • "Not sure I like the new City Cafe ambience as well as the old (especially since they still only have two bathrooms!) but the food was better this time than the last time. Overly salty (both of us commented on this) but we were accommodated when asking to forgoe flour tortillas & that is nice. So brunch was okay. Just remember it being spectacular before. "

  • "This is our "go to" restaurant before the symphony or other events in the area. The service is always good and the food is consistently delicous with a nice selection varying from time to time. I had the mac and cheese with lobster as my main course and it was delicious."

  • "I had requested seating in a quiet area for a business meeting. There were only three other tables in the area. It was ideal. Service was efficient but not intrusive. I have taken friends and associates there several times for lunch and have never been disappointed. "

  • "We scheduled lunch for a very special occasion, my daughter's graduation from JHU. We arrive with obvious graduation attire, get ready to order a drink, and first thing the waitress does is ask if she has ID. My daughter is nearly 22. It was so unnecessary! And ruined our experience. The food was only so-so. My salmon and hers were over cooked. "

  • "I graduated from law school and went with six other family members to City Cafe for dinner. The food was excellent, and the menu had a special for Monday night dinner. My only criticism was that the service left a bit to be desired. We had errors with a couple of orders and the waiter was slow to bring out waters and a few things before the meal. Other than that minor flaw, dinner was great."

  • "I go to cultural events with an elderly friend and we love to go to City Café after the symphony or opera. They have fabulous food, we often get the salmon sandwich which is to die for. Their waitstaff is really good. They have great seleciton of beers on draft and the atmosphere is always energized there, but you can still hear one another talk. Great Baltimore restaurant!"

  • "I went to the City Cafe because I was seeing a matinee performance with the fabulous Francesca Mondanaro of Nabucco at the Baltimore Lyric Opera.I wanted to find a spot where I could indulge in a crab cake (afterall I was in Baltimore) that was within walking distance from both the train station and the Lyric Opera. City Cafe fit the bill. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries. The crab cake was delicious- lots of crab- not too much else with a nice tartar sauce on the side. The sweet potato fries were cold and limp, but the server immediately brought me another order. I had a fabulous flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I would recommend it as a great brunch spot. "

  • "We have been here many times, but the restrauant was not clicking on a cylinders for a Friday evening. The service was slightly slower than before, but that seemed due to our waitress was overextended. Our food came late and my crab soup sat so it was cold! But, the staff recovered quickly and brought me that I may say is the best soup in baltimore, mulligan tonny. Run to get this soup. Burgers we had were very good! For dinner the bar area is just too loud for conversation and the noise bleeds everywhere into the restrauant. Needs correction."

  • "We love eating here and come often. Wonderful before symphony or performance at Lyric theater but also a great place just to go for the food, service, and comfort."

  • "Sitting in the new side of the restaurant added to the urban bistro charm of this consistently terrific restaurant . Upscale with 2 story windows, eclectic groups of people to meet and watch. Food was equally great and valued. Seasonal varieties of wonderful fresh oysters and entrees. I had Blue Point oysters which were as expected, cold, plump, sweet with a little salt. Not may places offer a minionette which I enjoy as an alternative to a overpowering cocktail sauce. The seasonal arctic char was moist, flavorful and cooked perfectly. It was accompanied by a eggplant capponata side which I found to be an unexpected but delicious complement. City Cafe is in the center of the growing art district on Mount Vernon. I'm never dissapointed!"
