Diner Reviews
  • "CPH's chopped salad that has its own Facebook page, so you may seriously want to consider it. It's not your average salad; truly outstanding! Nutty, sweet and salty, it has it all. I selected the scallops--a wonderful dish. Again, the pairing of scallops with the other items on the dish made the meal memorable. The waiter was confident, informative & attentive. The Malbec was robust & wonderful, but our dinner companions asked for several standard wines that were not available. The other downside is the loud noise level, but we were fortunate to sit outside, although there's only limited seating available there. Overall, we will return again and again. CPH is a new favorite restaurant in town."

  • "Great experience overall. Sam our waiter was superb helped make all our decisions for us on our first visit. My wife told him the type of mixed drinks she likes, sweet, not too strong, etc and he returned with an awesome concoction for her. We started off with 3 appetizers, the potbelly pastrami app was good, not great but the piggy and waffle was awesome. The highlight however was the chopped salad with salmon - the best! I would go back there just for that salad. We split the meatloaf and it was plenty of food after the apps and a few drinks. I would go back in an instant!"

  • "Seems like major groups dominate the mid- to high-end dining space these days. Citizen Public House offers that touch of personal with the gift of brilliance. Food was well prepared and presented; wait staff are excellent. Venue is classy, although be prepared for some noise after work on Friday night! Great corners for couple or group dining. We'll be back."

  • "The Pan Seared Scallops were amazing, as was the Butternut Squash Gnocchi and Burrata. Service was excellent and ambience was great. My only issue with the place was the acoustics. It was packed on a friday night with a very vibrant crowd, so we were literally yelling across the table to hear each other. Otherwise, fantastic meal and great experience. I'd recommend to anyone."

  • "good food and service, but the noise level was too high for my taste. A chic place."

  • "Food was incredible as always, service was on point, attentive, and highly professional! Overall fantastic experience for our date night....we love to come here for a treat or a celebration meal! Only thing we did not love was the noise level. It was almost impossible for my boyfriend and I to hear each other speak at a small table for two. However, I understand that it is probably because of the way the ceilings were designed and because it is such a great, busy place to go to! : ) Will absolutely be back soon!!"

  • "Open Table needs to change the noise level scale. This place was not energetic, it was too loud. Could not talk to the people across the table from us. Chop salad, meatloaf, and scallops good."

  • "An excellent evening at Citizen Public House. Started by sharing the original chopped salad, as recommended by our great waiter. Salad was outstanding. Crab cake appetizer was also quite good. We each had a different entree.Entrees were all equally good. Enjoyed the short ribs, duck, filet and scallops. The waiter was able to recommend a wine by the glass for each entree and he got it right for each of us! Didn't have dessert. Only drawback is the noise of level of a wide open dining room. We did request a quiet table and were seated at a booth which did help. Overall, we would all return again!"

  • "Our primary waiter and additional wait staff that helped us out were fantastic - fun, knowledgeable, and prompt. Food was also very good."

  • "We chose Citizen Public House to have an extra special meal on our last night of vacation. They did not disappoint. The food and service were both outstanding. The waiter was excellent in his explanations of the menu and his delivery of service. They were also very accommodating for me (I don't eat carbs) in adding another vegetable to my meal instead of the starch. We had the filet and the escolar for our meals. Can't wait to go back. It is noisy; that would be my only negative comment if you are looking for something quiet."

  • "The cocktail list is inventive and inviting, a New Amsterdam was complex and delicious, deftly made with excellent ingredients. The food is spot on, creative and very well thought out. Sublime Bacon Fat Heirloom Popcorn and intriguing Pork Belly Pastrami. Entrees were the Amaro Meatloaf and Lamb Burgers. The Meatloaf was big, earthy and warming. A generous serving, worth the sporty $20 tariff. Lamb burgers were excellent. Dessert for the table was the PB&J Pudding Jar, joyous. The service was very friendly and attentive while not overpowering, knowing just when to service the table. The space is warm, hip and airy, with a very manageable noise level. A highly recommended spot for an Old Scottsdale visit..in fact for a destination as well."

  • "This place is not only one of my favorite restaurants in Scottsdale, it is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. Excellent creative cocktails, great food, outstanding friendly service, a 5 star experience without the pretentiousness of a 5 star restaurant."

  • "The food and service were excellent but the place was very noisy. There were several large groups near us and they got very loud."

  • "Unfortunately our dinner at Citizen Public House left a lot to be desired. The service was horrible. Our server was arrogant and rude and extremely unattentive. The food is mediocre at best. Scottsdale has a ton of great restaurants but this is not one of them."

  • "We've been meanng to try Citizens Public House for a while, glad we did. The bar was busy but the drinks were great, and dinner was fabulous. Definitely make reservations if you don't want to wait. Even with an 8 pm reservation, it took about 30 minutes to get seated. Worth the wait."

  • "We were on vacation and dined here after visiting the botanical gardens and the chuihuilly glass exhibit. The staff were very friendly, professional and efficient. The decor is simple, modern and welcoming. The menu is small but enough choice to satisfy everyone. We started off sharing the chopped salad. It was presented at the table in a bowl, with each part in separate rows, then the dressing was poured on and the salad mixed together, it was fresh, flavourful and very good - highly recommended. My partner had the duck and found it delicious with a lovely sweet potato hash. Our guests both had the short ribs and said they were tender and nicely spiced. I had the scallops, served on a bed of corn grits. Highly recommend this resaurant."

  • "Gary was our server that night. He was helpful, knowledgeable, and humble enough to go and ask when presented a question he did not have an answer. We appreciate his interest. The food was cooked as asked. The menu was eclectic. Overall a wonderful experience. Thank you!!"

  • "I was absolutely wowed by the food. We got a table in the corner so we could have our family while enjoying the energy of the restaurant. If you are a vegetarian, there are only a couple choices but they were reported as very good by our guest. We were in no hurry and had hoped to decide on our next selection after we ate, but though we asked for only one item and were contemplating the next, it was on our order. This happened twice. Perhaps it was a bit too loud and our waiter did not understand us. At any rate, we enjoyed every thing very much."

  • "It was a busy Saturday night and our table was ready when we arrived...better than many other Scottsdale restaurants. Noise level was not acceptable and it was virtually impossible to talk. No need for extra loud music. Menu offered a number fo gluten free choices which was great for my wife who suffers from celiac disease. I had the ribs which were recommended and found them to be very average. For the prices charged, I won't be going back."

  • "Every dish was so good, it is hard to point out specific standouts. But, the filet and the mac and cheese are heavenly. It's one of the few places that I can honestly say I would try everything on the menu."

  • "We visited here on a very busy Saturday evening and were impressed by the food and service. The short rib was amazing and the chicken breast was very well prepared. We also enjoyed the burrata appetizer. The place was packed and very loud."

  • "Excellent food and service, but way too loud for a party of 2...we sat across from each, but ended up screaming our conversation across the table during the entire meal."

  • "What a fantastic selection for Valentines - they did an excellent job of meeting various food needs but in a way that keep the service flowing. The atmosphere was inviting and romantic but in an urban way. Food was fabulous as always!"

  • "The Public House in downtown old Scottsdale will be a nice find for anyone who would like to eat reasonably good food, from a nice, limited menu, and be attended by very good staff. The Pork Belly appetizer was very good, while the gnocchi were cooked a bit too long. The beer is good, and the surroundings are that of a young-persons, restaurant bar with a moderately high noise level. This is a nice place to return to for reasonable food at a nice price."

  • "My only major complaint, which I told our waiter and was ignored with a smile: my filet bacon burger was so salty, it was nearly inedible."

  • "The servers at the bar and dinner table were friendly and helpful. Social hour prices were excellent. All of us loved the food, from grilled cheese sandwiches to the outstanding chopped salad."

  • "Two friends and I went to Citizen Public House during a long weekend trip to the area. This was our favorite dinner of the trip. We walked in and immediately you could tell this was a "place to be." We got a table in the "front room" - relatively close to the front door - the location was a blessing because it was much quieter than main room. We started with a few festive drinks - one had a huge grapefruit peel as garnish, and the Moscow Mule was adorned with large spears of cucumber. Our apps were good choices - the chopped salad and gnocchi. Mains were solid - filet, short ribs, and scallops. Dessert was a flourless chocolate torte that was so good we considered ordering a second! We liked our server - nice guy with a sense of humor."
