Diner Reviews
  • "My only complaint was that the noise level was such that we could not have a conversation at the table. Way too loud!"

  • "I made an reservation for mine and my girlfriends first anniversary and enjoyed the whole experience. The attention to detail about our special day made us feel special and the staff was very friendly. The food and cocktails were also very delish."

  • "Six of us were there to celebrate a birthday. We had to shout to the person sitting next to us, and couldn't hear anyone else at the table. Food and service were good, but if you want to have a conversation, it was almost impossible. Definitely not romantic."

  • "Truly enjoyed the night. A little bit on the loud side but it kind of added to the "fun" of the night. Our server, Sam, was adorable and helpful when it came to some food allergies. He also gave the guys a great lesson on tequila's which was of real interest. The appetizer's were yummy ... we had a grilled octopus, and the server's brought a fondue that we admired "going by" complimentary of the house! Lamb burger was tiny sitting on a huge but really delicious. Other's at the table had Grouper, chopped salad and seared tuna and everyone was delighted with the food although REALLY small portions - which was fine for the ladies but the guys were left wanting more. The only odd thing about the was night the hostesses were a bit snobby."

  • "Limited sized menu, but amazing. Not your standard selections, but not "crazy" either. Good sized portions but not too much, and prices were moderate. I would defiantly try again. Give the ribs a shot."

  • "Loved everything except the noise level. The room seems to amplify noise and with so many people having a good time very difficult to carry on conversation. Service is outstanding. With noise caveat, I would recommend highly."

  • "I had read some great reviews on this place and was eagerly anticipating great food and barrel-aged cocktails. Barrel-aged negron I was unbalanced and not very oaky--too quick through barrel and too much Campari. Food was medicre at best. Short ribs were dry. Lamb burger was over garlic end and dry. Even fries were tepid and tasted pre-fab. Service was inattentive. First course came out late, with apology. Second course came out 3 minutes later with no apology, just piled onto table."

  • "Dined there with another couple , all agreed the food was very good but the noise level was unacceptable and would not go back. The survey would not respond to noise level."

  • "This was my second time to Citizen and it was fantastic! Food was great, the specialty cocktails were wonderful, and the service was above par. Will definitely be going again."

  • "We enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant and the delicious appetizers and entrees. In particular, the pork belly pastrami is something everyone should try, it is amazing!"

  • "Fantastic - it's just always a hit. I love coming here with friends, co workers, or family: never a flat note, and the dinner/drinks menu set you up for success the rest of the night!"

  • "A girlfriend and I went out for a girls' night out, and we really enjoyed the vibe and food at CPH. Our server was very pleasant, and based on her recommendations, we ordered the following: We split the chopped salad as an appetizer, which was very flavorful. I had the scallops and she had the short ribs, and we were both equally as impressed with the flavors and textures. The scallops were soft, yet not overpowering, and the portion size was just right. Our bill came to about $60 per person, which included a cocktail each, and tip. We both agreed that it we don't mind paying a little extra for great-tasting food!! I will definitely be returning. "

  • "I am from out of town and this is my second time eating here. The food is great, nice mix of different flavors that actually end up working very well together. The mixed drinks are different and fun. I would definitely recommend! Best Pan seared scallops I have had. Not too, but rich with flavor."

  • "Very nice (but short) list of happy hour drink & food specials. They made a killer Negroni. Ate restaurant week menu but the order came with the wrong dessert. The let down was the dessert which was a large really hard (going stale?) brownie which was nothing special. The dessert I ordered but did not get was probably the better choice. Scallop dish was superb. Service was outstanding except for the mix up on the dessert. Noise level was really really loud. Would not go back for that reason only."

  • "We chose Citizen for my wife's birthday dinner--and it was great decision. Very low lighting and cheery, quiet chatter at neighboring tables gave it a very appealing atmosphere for a special night out. Our server (who did not know it was her birthday) brought her a complimentary cocktail as we arrived, and he was a very engaging personality from start to finish. The wine list offered plenty of interesting choice, and the menu gave all four of us finely presented, very tasty entrees. We flew down from Seattle for this celebration weekend, and we will be sure to visit Citizen whenever we return to Scottsdale. "

  • "One of the best I have had in years .Personable, natural, unscripted, accommodating...a great complement to a wonderful dinner , especially during Arizona Restaurant Week."
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "The food was outstanding. The best scallops I've ever had. The servers were energetic, and friendly. We sat outside and it was quite lovely. I would recommend to any foodie."
    Dined on 5/21/2014
  • "Both restaurant week salads were very good; and the scallops main course was most enjoyable as well. The meat loaf was dry and not favorable to either of us. Likewise, the desserts were not memorable--bread pudding was tasteless, and apple tart was more pastry than apple. Our bottle of wine was excellent. Our server was outstanding and positively contributed to our evening. The patio dining was pleasant--but on prior meals inside, and especially close to bar, was too noisy for us. Thanks for the attention to detail and follow-up for a review. Regards, Nancy Belck."

  • "We tried this restaurant for the first time during Restaurant Week, and had a wonderful experience. They had a great selection of dishes on the Restaurant Week menu, and I was happy to see their legendary chopped salad was one of the choices so I could try it. The salad lived up to it's reputation! All the food we had was delicious. Our server, Sam, was outstanding. Professional, friendly, and knew just the right time to bring you your next item. The restaurant noise level does pick up when it gets full, but there was a great energy from all the happy diners. We will definitely be back to try the regular menu."

  • "We came for restaurant week and were very pleased with their ability to accommodate vegetarians. Our meat- eating friends also enjoyed their dinners. Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. We highly recommend this place!"

  • "The food at Citizen Public House was some of the best I have had in a long time. As a gluten free eater I often have to settle, but CPH had some of their best options that were completely gluten free, including two dessert items and neither one was ice cream or creme brulee. Our server was also incredibly attentive and informative helping us pick great cocktails and providing his recommendations."

  • "We went here because if Arizona Restaurant Week, we decided to go around 3pm on Sunday. Before i begin i would like to say that i actually own a restaurant a little bigger then the restaurant we went too. We were 4 in our group, my wife and my parents. We started out ordering beer, then we went ahead and ordered Appetizers, We ordered two of the Chopped Salads, Green Leaf Salad, and the House Soup of the day. When we first entered the restaurant there was about 3 tables, so i want to emphasize that they were not busy at all. Well we waited on the clock 40 minutes for our appetizers. Another 25 minutes for the entrees, then about 15 minutes for the Desserts. We were still hungry because they give half portions for restaurant week. "

  • "Although bar service was a little slow, the food more than made up for it. The menu is unique and offers interesting food pairings. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and his recommendations were excellent. This restaurant is a true gem."

  • "This was my first time at Citizen Public House. Went during restaurant week and was not disappointed. The service was great even though the restaurant was packed! Food was very good. Excellent value for the money. Although I didn't sit at the bar, it was busy the entire time I was there. Will definitely go back."

  • "Our waiter was great and the food and drinks were delicious. My only complaint is because the restaurant was so crowded it was loud and it was hard to hear people on the end of the table. I would still highly recommend it but would caution people if they go during busy times."
