A word from Circo
Circo offers upscale Italian fare built upon a foundation of signature Tuscan recipes from the kitchen of Maccioni matriarch Egidiana and prepared by Executive Chef Alfio Longo. The menu is served in a lively, sophisticated setting reminiscent of the old-style European circus tents which inspired the restaurant's name.

"When we opened Circo in 1996, our business plan was simple, Dad's Hospitality, Mom's Food, run by the sons."

Bright blue circus rings suspended with gold stars, sculptures of monkeys swinging near overhead, playful clowns dancing above the open kitchen and a ceiling hung with tapestries & trapezes all reinforce the vibrant circus theme.

Diner Reviews
  • "great tirtallini with frou gra and giod steak though very small portion. took the weekend ofer for 38 dollars. enjoyed. quick service too."

  • "Had the restaurant week lunch menu for 2: squid ink pasta, with minced shrimp & calamari ragu was excellent, mixed salad was ordinary; Angus skirt steak, baby sweet peppers, fingerling potatoes, stuffed mushrooms was very good, tasty however the Brick pressed chicken, pearl onions, rainbow Swiss chard, roasted potatoes was too dry, overcooked to the extent that the sauce serviced on the side couldn't even hydrate the chicken. For dessert, the mint pannacotta was unique & refreshing, the gelato was also good."

  • "What a disappointment. Hadn't been here in a while and expected more based on past history. Circo just isn't what it used to be. The staff was awful. More men in suits fussing over nothing than actually waiting on customers. They need to get their act together and go back to their roots. It's no longer worth the prices. Not sure how involved the Maccioni family is involved any more. I'm going to stick with dads place, Le Cirque."

  • "We had a delicious and very generous lunch at Circo during restaurant week- we'll be back!"

  • "we've been here many times, and it's always good. unfortunately, service was so poor this time that we were pressed to make curtain time right across the street. other tables facing same problem. must have been a breakdown somewhere."

  • "we had salads and hanger steak; the chocolate sorbet was amazing."

  • "Bad experience all around. Service was terrible. We sat for ten minutes before being asked for our drink order. Our waitress was rude and acted annoyed as if we were a nuisance to her. Food was bland. Pricey too."
    Dined on 8/12/2014
  • "We arrived at 6:30 and didn't have our first course until 7:45. Service was terrible! It took us 3 hours to have our dinner served. It was a bad experience."

  • "I had always wanted to eat @ Circo because I was a big fan of Le Cirque. My friend took me to City Center for my birthday and we decided to try it. What a wonderful evening we had. From the moment we walked in we felt we were in a Fellini movie in Italy. The food was fantastic and the service couldn't have been better. I look forward to coming back again and again"

  • "We will not go back. We got there at 5:30 for dinner. the restaurant was empty yet they tried to seat us in the very back next to the kitchen and all you could hear were plates and silverware clanking. They tried to tell us that it was the only table available and that the whole restaurant would be completely filled by the time we left. (that didn't happen of course) The finally moved us when they realized we were going to leave. They brought my daughter a pizza that must have been frozen as it was ice cold in parts."

  • "The same owners as Le Cirque bring you the best in Tuscan food in The City! Every dish is a masterpiece, served beautifully, and with a bright, fun atmosphere. Enjoy! (No need to go to Le Cirque...This is much better!)"

  • "Waitress was poor and servers just threw the entrees on table. No coffee/Tea was offered with dessert."
    Dined on 8/6/2014
  • "Met up with 5 friends for dinner during restaurant week. Servers were friendly but not super knowledgeable about ingredients. Food was ok, not great and that was disappointing. Brick chicken could have used a bit more flavor. Again, overall experience was ok, but not worth a repeat visit."

  • "dined here last night before the theater. We have eaten here before and continue to enjoy it very much. The restaurant week menu was perfect and both me and my husband enjoyed our selections. Wonderful gazpacho to start on a summer evening. He chose the skirt steak which was delicious and perfectly cooked. I always have the brick pressed chicken, which is the best chicken in town! The accompanying vegetables were also excellent. The desserts were lovely to look at and even better to eat. Very quiet and service was very good."

  • "Took advantage of Restaurant Week menu. Very nice choices, good quality food & friendly, professional service. Dined alfresco & while the street is busy & noisy (it's NY after all), their hedges make a visual barrier & it helps keep the people walking by from looking in."

  • "Quality and presentation were very good. Interiors fun. Restaurant week menu had small portions."

  • "Used to sparkle . Noticed staff had turned over.Missed seeing the f amlily members present and even the front desk was remote. Didn't even look up from their conversation to say good night when we left. The sides that came w my entree were cold and spare. The linguine was not cooked properly. The rug is getting old and nasty."

  • "Our family has enjoyed many meals at Circo, however this was a less than pleasant experience. We had an issue with our food and while they took care of the issue financially our impression of the restaurant was ruined when the staff yelled at us. The food was good but the service unfortunate."

  • "From the refolding of our napkins whenever we left our table to the explosion of rustic Italian flavors, Circo was a magical Italian experience. The circus theme was translated throughout the flavor of our food and the execution of our service with small unexpected surprises and intrigues. I loved the atmosphere and the fanciful decor and my daughters and I had a magical time!"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Circo has a circus theme with moving statues, so kids will enjoy it. The food and service are excellent. Since it's walking distance to the Broadway theater district, it's a great place to have dinner before a show."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "We were a party of 3 and sat toward the back when a party of 15 showed up. We spent the rest of the conversation yelling across our table . Hands down I would go again, but if you see a large group coming your way, it's about to get noisy."

  • "Circo never disappoints - starting with the warm welcome from the most charming Maitre d', to the wonderful wait staff and most beautifully plated and delicious food - all in the crisp décor reminiscent of the "big tent" of the circus - it is a wonderful experience. The squid ink pasta, impeccably al dente, with its topping of delicately prepared seafood, was a most wonderful start, but each course was delicious in its own right. Even their turn on fresh fruit dessert. All wonderful. I love this place. The bonus - this was all on the Restaurant Week menu no less."

  • "By chance we chose this restaurant. Wonderful Italian food! Things on the menu that I haven't seen in any other places. Very, very good."

  • "We dined at Circo last Saturday night and had an excellent dining experience. The food exceeded our expectations and the pace of service was perfect. We definitely plan to return."

  • "Right across the street from the City Center is this marvelous restaurant. Food is terrific, service is attentive but not pushy and the bartender makes a fine martini. This was our fourth time at Circo and I have yet to find fault with the place."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Food and service are always amazing.... Bruno, the Maitre D', runs the place impeccably and never a miss at any time... in either food or service"
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "Outstanding authentic Italian food. Delicious pasta, freshly made. Branzino is light and delicious. Petto Di Pollo (chicken paillard) is simple, tender and tasty. Gamberoni Pietrasanta is a wonderful shrimp entree -- succulent and sweet. The Cesari Amarone is a wonderful wine that complements virtually any food choice. Finish off the meal with a scrumptious gelato affogato, and you won't be sorry! We are regulars at the restaurant, as we live in the neighborhood, and we sometimes even bring our dog, weather permitting!! In addition to seeing us, you might also run into Tony Bennett, Barbara Walters, or any number of celebrities who frequent the place. It's also a great restaurant for business lunches. We love it, and you'll love it too!"

  • "The food and service were first rate. The prix fixe dinner menu is a terrific and the wait staff was sensitive to diners who may have been attending shows after dinner. The décor was whimsical."

  • "If I could only eat in one restaurant the rest of my life it would be CIRCO. My favorites: carpaccio di Manzo (raw filet mignon, thinly sliced) - the best I have had anywhere. Grilled octopus. I have had several variations, each better than the prior one. Pasta? Pici - homemade Tuscan pasta, hand rolled or (more often on the menu) Chiatarra (pressed and then cut by rolling over stretched guitar strings) - either in a plain pomodoro and basiico sauce with a duck or veal ragout. INCREDIBLE. Main- Branzino in salt crust ( roasted and with the salt removed for serving). This fare is from Tuscany, so the steaks are outrageous. A wine list to die for. All this with impeccable service. Can't you tell why I love this place?"

  • "We were looking for a place to eat close to Manhattan Theatre Club...and noticed the prix fixe menu at Circo, right across the street. Good selection for all three courses, and all met or exceeded our expectations. Very friendly waitstaff, pleasant environment."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "We enjoy Circo and eat there as frequently as possible. We happen to be in the area on Saturdays for lunch. But, alas, they do not open for lunch on Saturdays. We wish the would change that pattern."

  • "Food was excellent but service was indifferent at best"

  • "We chose to eat outside. Hence, the noise level was up and the service not as attentive as if we had dined inside."
