A word from Circa
At circa we are drawn to a time when food was fresh, natural and grown close to our homes.
We are committed to our community and welcome our neighbors as 'owners' of their own local eatery.

We demonstrate our commitment to our local farmers by showcasing their produce in our seasonal menus.

We even grow our own micro-crops of "Wall-Greens" in our vertical hydro-garden, right in the dining room.

  • "we had such a great experience at this fairly new little restaurant. it is owner/chef run and the food and service was fabulous. we had a small child and a vegan eater with us with us. They were very accommodating and altered and changed items on the menu for us. the ambience was great too!"

  • "We went early on a Saturday evening. I liked the ambience and the fresh food concept was appealing. The jazz was also a nice touch. However, after waiting over thirty minutes for our appetizers to arrive, we were informed the kitchen didn't get our order. We were given rather tasteless mini-bisquits to tide us over while we waited longer for our appetizers. The food was so-so. My daughter thought the flatbread appetizer had a burned rubber taste. The chicken and dumplings was overly salty. Eating the dumplings was like eating little balls of salt. The fresh catch (halibut) was good. The service was good."

  • "We had the sweet potato soup- the high point. Bratwurst and mustard appetizer - not bad, not great Main course braised pork with achiote, kale and yams - lacked flavor. Accompanying biscuits were small, misshapen and flavorless. Banana split - described on menu as being like bananas foster. Maybe because the banana had been partially cooked. Other than that, it bore no resemblance. It also had a DRY piece of cake in the mix. Although the service was good, it's not a good enough reason to return."

  • "After reading a review of Circa, decided to try it but was disappointed. The green bean casserole was okay but beans were hard; the meat loaf had an odd taste to it and the dessert shortbread tasted like it was about 3 three days old. Overall, not the best dining experience and will not be returning."

  • "This was our 2nd visit to Circa. We liked it very much the 1st time and my husband picked it for his birthday dinner. It's an intimatel venue with a comfortable atmosphere. The jazz that is played on the genuine turntable (no CDs!) is perfect background music. The meals have been just wonderful both times we've been in. Highly recommend!"

  • "The old Farmhouse which was wonderful but pricey....wanted to love Circa for the same reasons (fresh food, organic, cozy, French ambiance, good service, neighborhood gem, etc.) but the food/menu just didnt carry it. The salads were just OK, and the entrees were not as inviting as we wanted. The chicken and dumplings which are a house favorite were quite salty while I had the pork shoulder which was rather good. This was our second visit to Circa but we just felt the menu was selective enough. I hope this restaurant does well and makes a few changes to the menu.......I wish this restaurant well but don't think we will return."

  • "Wow! Circa continues what Farmhouse was doing in this cool neighborhood. Great food, nice farm to table mentality. Chef came out several times to chat and then go back to whip up some nice concoctions from the kitchen. Very friendly staff. Very open to the wines our group brought to the restaurant. Corkage friendly. Only downside is that I live > 30 miles away. Double thumbs up! Look forward to going back in the near future."

  • "Nice, friendly and delicious. The service was great, the Waitress very helpful with our desire to share dishes. The menu is not extensive but All food items were well prepared. Although there are outside tables they are just off the street! the inside ambience is warm and cozy."

  • "A Delightful find. Quality of Food and Service Outstanding ...ONLY negative not a place to have a conversation. Need some type of noise suppression. A Good Value. We will be back."

  • "What a sweet little restaurant....X Farm House though same style, theme and warmth. Great service however we were the only patrons - apparently the word isn't out yet. Everything is fresh, homemade and with a lot of TLC. We really enjoyed our dining experience from food to ambiance to service. Hands-on owner; the waitstaff very professional and knew the menu from top to bottom. We would definitely dine again soon."

  • "While we are still in mourning for our beloved Farmhouse Cafe, Circa looks set to find a regular spot on our rotation when we are looking for dinner in the 'hood. Food was tasty, wine list is extremely fairly priced, and the funky retro atmosphere charms without cloying. Really enjoyed the music, and hope next time to be able to get a seat at the bar so we can get to know the new owner."

  • "Circa is in the spot Farmhouse Cafe used to be. While no one can replace The Farm, the food here is really solid. Good farm to table ingredients well executed. And the people are great. Some of the old Farmhouse staff is still here. Mike, the owner, is a really nice guy that knows how to run a restaurant. Give it a try!"

  • "We had mimosas and their flapjacks with bananas that were excellent. Definitely coming here again soon!"

  • "Great little restaurant! Great sauces on meals that make you feel like you're home with the family. They make all their own ice creams, so the desserts (very unique dishes) are amazing. Great music on vinyl. A find. We will be back."

  • "We keep coming back because the food is so fresh and flavorful! Service is excellent, very friendly and always open to suggestions. Highly recommend this local spot! We'll be back!"

  • "My family and my upbringing is from the south, so comfort food holds a special place in this already passionate foodie's heart. I ordered the chicken and dumplings and my girlfriend ordered the meat loaf. Both were fantastic! I can't say enough about how fresh and flavorful everything was. The chicken & dumplings, a classic dish a have had so many different ways, became new again. Truly delicious! If there was one thing I would suggest (definitely more of a want than a criticism), it would be more options on the menu. "

  • "If you haven't been, you owe it to yourself to try Chef Mike's incredible Succotash & Brussels Sprouts made with sweet corn and green beans in savory vegetable broth topped with succulent Maple Glazed Pork Belly. Made a second trip back just to see if it was as good the second time around. It was. The menu is ripe with house made specialties, like the hopped bratwurst braised in pale ale pan jus, served over sauerkraut to die for with a side of grain mustard and again house made pickles. This is the kind of neighborhood restaurant you dream of having around the corner. Kudos to Chef Mike, server Kristen and the professional staff for making us feel like we're having dinner at home."

  • "Great service at each level of the Circa staff. Jen, our server was tops. She graciously took time to describe and explain the questions we had about style of beer, wine, and how a particular menu item was prepared. The quality of each menu item chosen by our party of four was first rate. We left quite pleased at the end of a fun evening. We shall return. "

  • "Friendly and welcoming staff. I am a big foodie and the pairings of the food was unique and delicious, however, the portions and the prices was not valuable. Very expensive. If I had known, I would have opted for juniper and ivy. The Brussel sprout appetizer was mostly swimming in corn and only several leafs of Brussel sprouts. The main dish of halibut was very small and drowned by the red rice. This is merely to communicate to add more value to the dining experience. Thank you! "

  • "This was an excellent find! Small little place on Adams...would probably drive right by it if you didn't know the address. But the big taste makes up for the small space. We went on a Sunday evening so it was very quiet. The succotash/brussels sprouts was a great starter. The chicken and dumpling was phenomenal. And my wife, who is not a big pork eater absolutely loved the pork shoulder (at the recommendation of the server). The banana split with the homemade vanilla bean ice cream was the only way to finish off the meal. We would definitely come back here again!"

  • "I guess I'm just a food snob but the dishes did not wow me. I would characterize them as timidly seasoned. I can't put my finger on exactly what I would change about the food, but for the price, it was not worth it."

  • "Good vibes, excellent service, comfortable. The ahi and spinach salad were only so-so, but the "beercan chicken" was very tasty. The "bones" are there for a good restaurant, I think they just need time. Just recently opened."

  • "Circa was delicious and very quiet for my wife and I on Mother's day brunch. We enjoyed only having a few other people I the restaurant instead of a packed buffet. I recommend circa for lunch dates. "

  • "Delighted to find out it was a chef under Olivier who took over as the new owner -- absolutely fantastic news to us! Everything was great. Portions come out looking small but you bite into them and are delighted -- you can taste the distinguishing quality. (*Scallop ceviche special that night was THE BEST ceviche I have ever had.) Very good comfort food. Mostly organic ingredients, not too sure about the beef as it was listed as "all natural" on the menu in a few dishes (in the store that means nothing)."

  • "We stopped by on our way to the Old Globe Theater. The food was terrific and creative, our server was delightful and it was a wonderful dinner. We live in North County and would definitely go back again to have another great meal. "

  • "Brought a party of 5 to Circa after the Art Walk in Little Italy, and found the new restaurant at the west end of Adams (close to Old Trolley Barn Park) to be a great experience. All in our party remarked at the warm and distinctive atmosphere that was presented. We tried four different entrees, including the meat loaf (super 'comfort food', just as advertised), the lamb pot roast, and the pork shoulder. Raves all around with significant "sample sharing" around the table. We had been advised to leave room for Chef Mike Almos' desserts and particularly don't leave without trying the banana split (bananas foster) and the berries and cream. Great advice! We'll be back!"

  • "Unique and fresh farm to table delights. From Charred Octopus over hand rolled ink pasta to chicken liver mousse and crostinis for apps to a velvety lamb bolognese with an after swallow kick and a succulent pork tenderloin (more like filet mignon) over legumes for entrees and a butterscotch pot 'de creme for dessert to made for a special and memorable dinner that almost (but not quite) surpassed the fantastic Tuesday and Wednesday specials of half price wines! Superb. A must visit!"
