  • "As Europeans we find it a challenge to find a restaurant that is a bit special in the States. Most of them offer more of "the same", and all of it in great quantities. Most of them are dark or noisy or... This restaurant was a pleasant surprise to us : - food that was different ("European style", but not exactly the same as in France where we stay quite often); - a very very friendly and helpful waiter; - excellent setting in a décor that guaranteed reduced noise levels (high ceiling, tables not too close to one another). The food was not only different, but was also great. It was one of the occasions where one does not regret giving a large tip."

  • "We were very, very happy with your choice. We asked to eat downstairs because we heard it was quiet and a great place for a date. We were not disappointed. The server let us sample a couple bottles of wine before we made our choice. The chicken liver app was wonderful."

  • "I never like restaurants that load people side by side along a bench. I feel as though I can't speak freely as my table neighbour hears everything. Well the food made up for this. My wife had the flounder & I went the classic steak frites. Both meals were too big but they were excellent in terms of quality of produce. We had no room for dessert though."

  • "The food and service was very good as it has been in previous visits. However; the noise level is very loud (really needs to have acoustical treatment in the restaurant part) and the Bistro style straight-back chairs are very hard (really need chairs with more comfortable seats / cushions)"

  • "We love this restaurant and eat here everytime we are in Savannah. The food (French) is always delicious - the Steak Frites with truffle fries is great - but so is everything that we have tried. The wine list is very nice and the service is exceptional."

  • "The staff is most pleasant and professional. Our South Carolina trout was fresh and prepared to perfection and the endive salad was a most agreeable accompanying dish. The raspberry sorbet was very good and most generous. Restaurants in Savannah frequently ask when you call back to confirm your Open Table reservation if it is for a special occasion. Circa 1875 was most accommodating regarding my wife's birthday. We had the quietest table possible because it was downstairs. Upstairs I believe warrants a moderate noise level rating. Circa 1875 is located in the best part of Savannah almost next door to the Telfair Museum, an important venue for music, and the very best inns in Savannah away from the greater noise levels closer to the river."

  • "We had been to Circa on neumerous occasions and liked it very well. This visit was disappointing. The lamb shank was very fatty and actually inedible. The waitress commented that there is always fat on a shank and pointed out there was plenty of meat left after my wife had finished eating...Duh ! Thats the point ..she did not like it so did not eat it. There was no offer to satisfy us with a complimentary coffee , drink or whatever. Not a good experience and Circa is off our list of go-to Savannah restaurants."

  • "Was in Savannah with my wife and daughter and wanted to try a new restaurant near where we were staying. This was a great find - great service, wonderful wine selection, and a menu with a wide range of choices for all tastes in our group! If you are looking for a small, intimate place, then this is the spot to go! Highly recommend!"

  • "Selected Circa 1875 to celebrate 25th wedding anniversary while in Savannah. It was everything it boasts to be. Made a reservation requested seating in the cellar. Restaurant is beautiful, service impecable, food was beautifully prepared and delicious. It was a perfect evening. Will return!"

  • "We had an early reservation & arrived a few minutes ahead. Dinning room wasn't open yet so we settled in the bar. It was a great staff was friendly, had a good glass of wine & my husband had a beer. The crowd was a mix of after work locals & those waiting for dining. Experience in dining room continued to be positive. Small menu but great options & a special in each course. The food came at an appropriate pacemaker progressed & each course was delicious.. We each had an appetizer, a salad & then shared the main. The trout was more than adequate to share & it was simply but perfectly prepared. As the meal progressed the room was filling & the noise level did rise. We had no room for dessert but next time & there will be a next time"

  • "The restaurant was very busy Fri night. Service was great and prices reasonable. We had a Salad and Pate for appetizer and shared desert. The salmon was excellent and the seared duck was very good (portion could do with another slice). The menu had many interesting choices that I would come back to sample."

  • "We had a great evening at Circa 1875. My husband had the New England clam chowder and the veal shank for entree (it was a special that evening). I had the chicken livers (which were the best I've ever tasted) and the cassoulet. These are all pretty heavy dishes so we were happily stuffed when we left. I have to mention that the veal shank was a $52 dish and since this is not regularly on the menu, there was no way to know the price. I have heard that some diners like to be told the price and some do not. We were never told yet we heard the waiter tell the table next to us. We felt that a dish at this price point should be mentioned."

  • "This is a very exclusive restaurant and we have chosen it for continuing celebrating our anniversary while in town. We did book a table in advance and asked for one at a good location in the restaurant. Once we got there, they took us to the room downstairs which looked just great. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. The only problem we had was that in the same room there was a table with a group of 11 girls who would literally scream the entire night nonstop, paying no attention to anyone else but themselves. Now I regret not having asked the waiter for moving us back upstairs."

  • "The ambience of this restaurant is delightful, perfect for a special date or with your significant other. The wine list was not extensive but we managed to find a reasonably good French red. We both had the escargot and while they were good I have had better. The best part of dinner was the Wonderful Veal Shank, it was huge and extremely tender and both of us finished every last bite! For dessert the raspberry sorbet really hit the spot and it was more than enough for the two of us to share. We asked to take the veal bones home to our puppy and our waiter surprised us by also bringing out a leftover piece of steak, a real treat for our little one. I would definitely recommend this restaurant ! We are retired restaurateurs."

  • "We have a toddler and don't get to go as much as we used to. We are slight foodies and like to try several things when we do get the chance to go out. Therefore we usually split things so we can get appetizers a main and a dessert. Not even so much as a cost thing, though it does help, but I would rather have small portions of several things than one huge portion of one thing. Circa is always sooooo accomodating to sharing and splitting. They also usually have atleast one bottle of wine that isn't too pricey. We like to have a cocktail at the bar then go to the dining room for dinner. Great service and food. We keep going back."

  • "The ambience is great, it feels like a quaint old bistro. Service was friendly and prompt. The onion soup was good, but not exquisite; same with the spinach salad. The duck and sausage special entree was good, but again, not stellar. The confit duck was well done, the bean and sweet potato mash good. The sausage had a metalic flavor that was not appealing. The duck entree had the skin perfectly rendered, and meat perfectly cooked. This was accompanied by braised cabbage - again ok, but lacking pizzaz. The deserts: bread pudding - a great dense version with cinnamon and raisins. The creme brulee was outstanding - clearly the highlight of the night. Very rich and creamy, with a perfect crusty top."

  • "Usually we eat in the bar side of Circa, but decided on the bistro section for a special occasion. Food was great, service outstanding, I had the braised lamb shank, she had the crab cake and Delmonico. Split a frisée salad, a favorite. Dessert was ice cream profiteroles, the pastry was a little stale. My only complaint of an excellent dinner."

  • "My wife and I eat out a lot and have been here several times, with each time being excellent. Service was knowledgable and friendly but not intrusive; food was delicious, hot, large servings given the price, ambiance was magical, great mixology, nice set of wines to choose from by the glass. Try the absinthe made traditional style and you will be transported back to the time of Hemingway and Fitzgerald, circa 1920s."
