  • "i didn't go with high hopes partly because i have such fond memories of the Cipriani establishments in Venice and was resentful of their having taken over the Rainbow Room ...but was curious to see how they had transformed the building where i worked into a restaurant and it was a lot more pleasant to eat there than to work there! - the decor was warm and welcoming without being pretentious - the waiters were delightful - the vitello tonnato was delicious and not so easy to find - the braised short ribs were scrumptious as well as the polenta and the mocha cake was superb and i am not a dessert person and i love the idea of getting wine by carafe size - a very nice Montepulciano -and the $25 prix fixe lunch is an absolute bargain -"

I had the short rib over polenta, which was great, while my wife's sea bass was plain with a topping that dominated the taste. Capriani is a solidly good and reliable choice, but it is not memorable or impressive. Recommended if in the financial zone, but not a place worth traveling to."

  • "We sat out on the terrace during Restaurant Week. Very atmospheric but also very cold. Wish I had kept my coat. As for food, we had two lovely starters -- string bean salad and veal. Entrees were both undersized and underwhelming. I was still pretty hungry afterwards. Apparently, dessert -- a huge hunk of very sweet cake -- was supposedg to make up for this. But I hate sweet food so this backfired for me. As for the service, I read some of the negative reviews and that was not our experience. We found the wait staff very attentive and professional. In sum, the terrace and the location was unique but the entrees were sub par. Wanted to love it, but just didn't ."

  • "We were hugely disappointed...the waiter spilled water, never offered to change the table cloth - within minutes half the table cloth was soaked! when we asked for a new table cloth, the bus boy(?) was obliging, but it we should not have had to ask. Overwhelmed by the frantic feel in room and the atrocious noise level. Were all underwhelmed by the food.....2 companions had the octopus and, while rather pretty, said it had just been removed from the refrigerator/freezer and had no taste. I liked the "spring salad", One liked the liver entree and the chicken was OK; salmon was ordinary. Dessert was good. We are not tempted to ever come back to Cipriani. We had very much looked forward to this lunch and were.......disappointed."

  • "If only I had a DeLorean to transmit me back to the decades-old heyday of this place... Unfortunately, it's 2014 and I was not impressed. I stuck to the Restaurant Week menu (that they apparently offer year round) and ordered the "chicken" which tasted more like mystery meat from an elementary school cafeteria. I found my appetizer of prosciutto wrapped filler fruit and dessert of dry mocha cake just as equally unappetizing. The $50 large carafe of Chianti wasn't the worst wine I've ever had, but definitely not worth the price. Oh, and the $4 cups of cold coffee pretty much sealed the I'm-never-coming-back-to-this-place deal. $75 later and I've officially had the worst meal I've ever had in NYC... Ultimate fail!"

  • "I have used Cipriani on Wall Street restaurant in the past and had a good experience, this week not sure if they changed management or just staffing this one time the service was not good. I arranged a lunch business meeting with a potencial client and felt rushed from beggining to end even if there were lots of tables empty. They came with the second dish while I was still eating my salad and asked if I was finished even if they see me still eating. And did the same with the second dish the waiter asked if I was finished even if he sees a fork in my hands. Lastly we ordered 1 regular coffee and 1 espresso, the waiter walked away saying OK 2 regular coffee, I tried correcting him but he keept on walking away.. What is the rush!"

  • "My friend and I decided to dine here and stumbled after the reservation to find out it was rest. week. We came and had a great but some of the things that bothered was the furniture outside seemed worn and one of the chairs, the seat appeared to have fallen loose. The green paint was chipped. The food was yummy and the octopus that was thinly sliced perfection."

  • "Perfect lunch-size portions. Ambiance and service matched the levels one would expect in this class of restaurant. Food was well prepared and overall enjoyable particularly the asparagus underpinning the beet salad and the rice accompaniment . They use the same rice as in the risotto.. Only one choice for dessert, the fruit tarte, but it was outstandingwith perfect crust and a good mix of berries. Guessing it is the same size as for dinner, as it was larger than I was expecting. The house drink (bellini) was good, but overpriced even by restaurant standards. Overall rating would be higher but there were some things that did not fit with that category: e.g., knife and fork were expected to be reused from course to course."

Service was horrible they were more concerned with the balcony patrons then the people sitting inside the dinning room. This restaurant is only known for a name. Capital Grille or Les Halles menu, service and food are a hundred times better than Cipriani."

  • "I went with a group of 10 women on a Tuesday night. They went out of their way to seat us on the terrace (perhaps because not a single person eating inside?). Some of us ate from the RW Menu, which equaled tasteless: i.e. beet salad (with unsalted beets from a can with a sparse amount of goat cheese), pesto pasta (missing the basil flavor) and dessert (fine, but not memorable). I was lucky to have order chicken with mushrooms in a beef reduction sauce, which was quite good. Those that ordered a la carte were even more diappointed as their (more expensive) meals were flavorless and unimaginative. Waitstaff was polite and efficient, but unable to answer basic questions about ingredients, preparations or gluten-free options."

  • "The interior of the restaurant is old and stuffy. Our waiter did not come over to our table until we had been seated for 15 minutes and our drinks took another 20 minutes to get to our table. I asked about the restaurant week menu and they informed me that the one in the main menu, which is available all year, is the only one available. After waiting for 20 minutes with empty plates after each course, we were informed that the dessert was no longer available even though we saw it being delivered to other tables. The food came in very small portions and was not nearly the quality I was expecting from Cipriani. The cocktails are very small and expensive. Very disappointed, will not be returning"

  • "We are huge fans of restaurant week. My coworkers and I have never been to Cipriani's and looked forward to the experience. The three of us were very disappointed. The the food took too long to arrive given the simplicity of the menu. The food tasted good enough, but was nothing special. The salmon dish came with plain white rice, that was under cooked (crunchy). The mix green salad, was nothing more than mixed greens with a dressing thrown into a bowl. Having only one choice for desert was also very disappointng. I will never spend my money here again. What a waste of time and money."
