  • "Took family from Virginia there for dinner... because of it's location it's a great spot; right down by the wharf and close to good touristy places (fishermans wharf, ghiradelli square, pier 39, etc)... food was good, not specatular, but certainly not bad. Family and kid friendly, but tends to be loud, so not a spot to go if you are looking for a quiet romantic evening. Parking can be difficult due to it's location."

  • "We are there 2 times during our 5 days in San Francisco. The first time was an accident, we thought we were in a different place. The Whole Dungeness Crab is wonderful and the Cioppino was excellent. The staff was excellent and remembered us from earlier in the week,"

  • "Found this place at the last minute, made a reservation online and they seated us immediately. It was right on the wharf and somehow we even found parking with no problem. Food was excellent - I highly recommend the blackened salmon - so delicious and piping hot - a generous portion too. Vegetables and rice were fantastic also. We were extremely happy with everything and our waiter Carlito was not only perfect in every way and quite adorable, but he also helped my daughter make a difficult decision of not only what to eat, but also where to attend college. We will definitely be back! Thank you Carlito."

  • "We had a party of 8 and got sat in just a couple of minutes the food was good, the staff was great, fast on their toes and didn't rush us at all even though we were the last ones out. It's in a touristy part of town but still a good find for a late night dinner."

  • "we started with an order of Garlic Sourdough...that was amazing. My wife ordered the Pasta with Italian Sausage ..which she loved the pasta was done just right and it tasted outstanding ... the young lady had the Seafood Cocktail...that was loaded with crab and shrimp... and she shared my wife's pasta. The comp basket of Sour Dough bread was absolutely amazing...the crusty exterior and the soft airy interior made it great with the meal not to mention the great flavor. I had (as always) the Cioppino..... I used to go to Tarantinos for theirs until a few years back when I first tried Cioppinos...and I was addicted...We should have passed on the desserts but we didn't and they were fantastic. See you in about a month Thank you Gary Peterson"

  • "We first went there January 2014. I had their signature dish (Cioppino) the last time. It was good, but not that outstanding. So I tried the seafood saute (lots of seafood plus Dungeness crab) while she had the seafood risotto. Both had lots of seafood: mine in a pesto cream sauce which masked the flavors a bit, and hers in a yummy risotto cooked just right, nice and creamy. The last time we went she got the same dish and asked for no calamari (as she did this time also). The waitress the last time told her she could have extra of what ever other meat was in it so she go extra mussels. This time she asked the waiter if she could have extra mussels to which he said yes. However she did not get the extra. That was disappointing. Good overall."

  • "We went to Cioppino's for our Valentine's dinner and it exceeded expectations. We had just got off our plane, and were late for our reservations and they still sat us down immediately. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was amazing and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Next time we visit San Fran we will for sure revisit Ciopinno's, and I highly recommend the Alcatraz Island Ice Tea!"

  • "First if you've never had cioppino your missing out big time! Every time I'm in San Francisco I head to Ciopinno's to have the Ciopinno. I usually have the Crab shucked (Lazy style) so I can just get to eating. Great flavor and lots of seafood in this fish stew. Excellent. I highly recommend!"

  • "We had dinner here and we really enjoyed it. What was interesting was the fact that we looked around at one point and realized that at least four big groups had come in after us and the restaurant was handling them with no problems! Actually, the more people in the restaurant, the better the service. The food was pretty good. Definitely Italian. I had the Cioppino and it was excellent. The small is definitely enough for one person! Another team member ordered the regular and couldn't finish it. Others also enjoyed their food; we had a British member who stated that the Fish and Chips were definitely authentic. The vegan member in the group loved her bruschetta and everyone else really enjoyed their meals (I can't remember what they had.)"

  • "My wife was in the mood for seafood and I don't eat it so we needed to find a place that had a good selection. The food, drinks, and service are very good at this location. In fact, it was so good that we decided to visit this restaurant twice during our one week visit to San Francisco. I had the fetucine alfredo on one visit and the lasagna on another. Both were very good. My wife had cioppino on one visit and one of the fish dishes on another and she stated her food was also very good. The staff were very friendly and made up feel like special guests on both occasions. The drinks from the bar were also very good. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This is a low-key Italian-style seafood restaurant. We eat here fairly often because my husband likes it. It is family oriented (there were kids running up and down the aisle by our table) but it kind of makes sense there. I'm thinking most of the diners are tourists but we're locals and go there every other month or so. I used to think of this place as a good value, but it seemed to me like the prices were substantially higher this last time than they used to be. This is not fine dining, but a fun relaxed place to knock back some pasta and a red wine."

  • "I ordered the Cioppino and my mate ordered the seafood risotto. Both were very good. Because the risotto was made to order she was given the opportunity to change out the calamari for more mussels. Excellent! The other seafood in it was shrimp which were nice and meaty, plump and juicy. The Cioppino was tasty, but not spicy at all. They had the option to take the crab out of the shell first which saved me the embarrassment of spraying it all over me! Yes they did provide a bib, and I used it."

  • "Reserved thru Open Table -- worked well. Family of 5 for dinner. Ambience and noise were good. Handled our two 10-year olds well. Very nice server and hostess. Sat inside toward the back -- view of dock area. Ordered margarita and did not specify brand of tequila. Came "top shelf" and was not well blended -- felt a little taken advantage of at $9.00 -- should have asked us. Had it re-done but still tasted off so did not drink it. One entrée was requested no cheese -- but came with cheese and had to be re-done (but quickly well handled by server). Food quality was very good -- salads, pasta, swordfish, sausage and clams. Kids mac and cheese was well received. We will return but will be clearer about which brands for drinks."

  • "Everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the busboy gave excellent service. We had a few special requests (change of table, custom salads, etc.) and everyone was happy to accommodate our needs with a smile. The ambiance was family friendly, casual setting, moderate noise level, crayons and kids' menu. The food was good. I was happy with the fried fishermans platter. The calamari was so chewy as to be not edible but the fish and shrimp were crispy outside, nicely cooked inside. Along with the fries, I was plenty full without the calamari. I advised the waitress and she said she'd pass along my comments. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, nothing amazing but very satisfying. Walking distance to Ghirardelli for dessert!"

  • "My husband and myself were both born in San Francisco and know the city restaurants well. It is so nice to have such delicious food and drink in such a beautiful place. The service is always excellent. We go for no occasion or any special occasion. Our last visit happened to be our anniversary and we were given a great table in the back with a romantic view of the bay and complimentary dessert. We have friends coming in from FL next week so we will be returning right away, can't wait. It truly is the best Ciopinno in SF. They will even remove the crab from the shells if you prefer. Excellent in every way."

  • "We were looking for seafood, moderately priced, w a view for dinner. Trip advisor had actually given 4 star reviews. The place from the outside just looks like a tourist trap. Red checked table clothes, TV at bar. We couldn't sit by the windows to look out on the water bc of a private event. They were out of their daily special appetizer, sweet potato fries. Lastly, the seafood was just meh. IT smelled fishy When it arrived to the table and dint have much flavor."

  • "Went with work-friends for early weeknight dinner - two had the small Cioppino, and it was enough to fill them! Both said it was fabulous! The other had Halibut - really enjoyed it and was such a large piece, she ate less than half. I had the Fried Fisherman's Platter with shrimp, calamari, and halibut over French Fries, and took about one-third home, where my wife and daughter promptly finished it. Very good, friendly service, and priced reasonably. I hope to return soon so I can try the Cioppino!"
