  • "Excellent service, fun bar. Food ok - four of us, two great, two good but not memorable. Namesake dish was not that memorable! if they are still on the menu in summer, get the brussel sprouts! Ym"

  • "Service and food were excellent. Jazz was great! Have already recommended."

  • "The main dining room at Cioppino is a little smaller than some of your other Pittsburgh fine dining staples, but I think that made for exceptional service. While the room is 'small', it is certainly not cramped and there is plenty of room around you. We went on a Saturday night and there was Jazz being played in the (closed-off) bar section of the restaurant so there is some pretty significant noise that seeps into the dining room, but the room itself isn't too noisy. The food was great and there are many daily chef's specials, which is a sign of an inventive chef who is attentive to the changing local food. Also, I highly recommend the dessert sampler. We had 3 people and it was more than we could eat for only 10$! Delicious!!"

  • "The food , service and wine were all perfect. So many choices of delicious fresh food. The ciopinno is wonderful, as well as the seafood chowder, Beet salad and lamb sausage. Dessert is a must ! Have been there several times and will continue to do so!"

  • "I enjoyed a wonderful evenings there recently. The ambiance, service, and food were all great. I can say I would recommend this place without reservation.."

  • "Overall, the atmosphere was fun, with a jazz band spicing up the front bar area and some solid cocktail choices to be had. The main dining area is in the rear of the establishment and has widely spaced tables and a private back room. The service was somewhat spotty but friendly, but did seem to improve as the night went on. As for the food, the bread basket and garlicky dipping oil were quite tasty, preparing us for our app choices. We had the Tuna Tartare (good but slightly bland), Beef Carpaccio (well presented and solid), and Lamb Sausage with Greens 'n' Beans (excellent). Being cliche', each couple split the Cioppino entree. It was nicely seasoned with fennel and garlic and had appropriate portions of seafood and fish."

  • "All name, no delivery. 2 of us had to send our steaks back because they were overcooked (not just a little overcooked) and the rest of our party had to eat without us because of the delay. Not impressed, would not go back or recommend to a friend."

  • "The food was incredibly delicious. The live jazz music was great. Cannot wait to go back. We asked to sit in the lounge to enjoy the live music and it was perfect."

  • "This was the perfect spot for a pre-concert dinner. We were attending an event at the Pittsburgh Opera building, just two blocks away. The cioppino was very, very good. Our friends liked the haddock and the greens and beans appetizer. The service was very good. We will return."

  • "Food was fabulous. Great location near downtown in Stripp district. Good music in the bar. Very reasonable price for the high quality of food and atmosphere. I will be back next time I am in town!"

  • "Good service, average wine list, and very good food. Don't sit next to the windows at winter - troppo freddo. Chef came to the table to get feedback and we responded with all good. Good bar setting for pre-dinner or informal meal. We would go back"

  • "Cioppino made for a very nice evening celebration for two. The bar was very nice and well stocked. The bartenders were very friendly and know how to make good cocktail although the cocktail menu was shorter and less interesting than when I was there in the summer (special rye cocktail, up with egg white). The hostess, waiter and servers well really friendly and attentive and the food was wonderful. A good variety of seafood and steak etc. you can check the menu on line. The two cuts of steak that we had were exceptional as well as the sides. This place is kind of off the beaten path in the strip but a good find. Very nice atmosphere, high ceilings, a full wall of floor to ceiling windows. Check it out."

  • "Some of the best prepared seafood in Pittsburgh by Chef Greg. Our server Tom was amazing. You can tell this restaurant has a great pastry chef to finish off the meal with thoughtful, creative desserts! You cannot wrong for a great overall dining experience!!!"

  • "The ambience of the restaurant is lovely-low lighting, and very pretty decor. The waitstaff was attentive, every course was presented beautifully. The crab cakes were truly amongst the best that I have eaten, and the desserts were wonderful. We shared the Chocolate Sampler that included wonderful warm raspberry beignets rolled in powdered sugar, homemade chocolate turtles, chocolate malt cake and warm banana french toast with caramel sauce. Every bite was delicious and it was more than enough for out table of four to share. We also enjoyed the beautiful jazz wafting in from the bar that night. It is so nice that the dining room patrons can hear the night's jazz trio as it adds to the ambience of the room. We loved Cioppino and will return!"

  • "Avid open table user. First time dining at Cioppino. Sat in the bar area - great atmosphere/live band playing. Ordered food form both bar menu / dinner menu and drinks. Our Calamari was some of the worst we have had. Huge chewy chunks poorly breaded and no flavor and these awful fried lemon rinds - Bitter and unappealing. My fiancé burger cooked great - big portion. Average margarita pizza. Great apple salad. Two different bartenders each made a drink of mine - vodka dirty martini up - big turnoff to see huge chunks of ice in the drink each time. Overall great place for a night out with live music."

  • "My husband is an avid cigar enthusiast and I wanted to take him somewhere for his birthday where he could enjoy a good meal, scotch and cigar. Maybe we weren't the target market for Ciopinno (I'm 30, he's 33). Most of the clientele was probably 45+. We were seated at a tiny table at the end of a banquette against the wall even though There were many open tables at the front of the restaurant. Our waitress was nice enough once she made it to our table 9 minutes after we were seated. The food was the one redeeming quality. I had the linguine, he had the NY strip. Both dishes were large portions and very flavorful. Overall, you can get the same quality meal elsewhere. Nothing to write home about at Cioppino."

  • "We had an amazing Valentine's Day experience. Not only was the staff (especially our waitress) kind and attentive, but Chef Greg made it a priority to speak to us about or food and inquire as to our enjoyment. Cioppino is not the quietest, most intimate restaurant in town, but the liveliness of the place and the energy (live music!) was just what we were looking for in fun night. If you want a good time with a significant other or a fun night before a night out, this is a great spot."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, but the lighting was so dim I couldn't read the menu. The service was great. The time in between the appetizer and main course was 15-20 minutes. Which I loved. We didn't feel As they were trying to turn tables. Had the calamari to start. Good, not gummy, but very salty. $29 for 3 scallops, and a small portion of risotto. No bread. No vegetable. A very over priced dish. My wife's was a little better. $25 for two crab cakes and an above average Mac and cheese, that tasted more like an Alfredo. I will be back to try another seafood dish, but with those prices this will only be a special occasion restaurant. This is not for the middle class. So head down if you don't mind dropping a $100 bill or more."

  • "It started off with complimentary valet service, which was nice because the ground was covered with snow. Also not looking for parking is always a plus. We had reservations and were seated right away once we got there. We were able to check our coats as well. The service was fantastic and knowledgeable about the menu. The spacing between tables was pretty nice as well. Some restaurants try to cram as many as they can in. There was more privacy this way. We were given a complimentary glass of champagne. The appetizers came out quickly and were fantastic. The dinner was amazing and cooked to perfection. Service was amazing the whole night. Very polite, courteous, and quick. Well worth the visit."

  • "My husband and I started a tradition of going out for Valentine's day a while ago. There are two terms: must be some place we've never been and it must be out of our home town. We find our selves going into Pittsburgh a lot. Cioppino was fun. Had a great vibe. The service was excellent....think his name was John. And of course, the food was excellent. I had the signature seafood and my husband had the steak. So good! Would love to go again. This time I would bring some friends!!"

  • "Service is extremely attentive, goat and green salad outstanding, cioppino was good - interesting variation on true cioppino, drinks are not too strong, wonderful olive oil, friendly atmosphere, prices more affordable, valet parking only without a long walk,"

  • "The crudo is addictive, the entrees --skate and venison this last visit amazing. I t is very obvious that the high standards set by Chef Greg in his kitchen extend to every aspect in this great restaurant. CIOPPINO has a highly trained staff that have been very professional in their service while making us feel very welcome and special every time we visit. Don't ever skip dessert, they have a real pastry chef in the kitchen. Don't ever feel intimidated by the wine list, the wine staff is always helpful. It is our go to place for special occasions and no occasion, we have never been disappointed."

  • "While the food was certainly excellent, it was the service that really stood out for my wife and I. Our waiter was thoroughly proactive without being intrusive, and provided an unexpectedly elegant and enjoyable dining experience. The food, too, was excellent, from selection, to presentation, to quality. I'm looking forward to returning soon with more friends."

  • "We were not happy with the portions and the price. The lamb was 5 extremely thin sliced pieces, 1 brussel sprout cut into fours and no other vegetable with the Ragu. The steak was good, again the side was 1/4 cup if that. Our server was not attentive. As for the price and ambience there should be white linens for the prices charged. Disappointed experience."

  • "On our way to take our son back to school in Pittsburgh we stopped to grab dinner on the way. What a great find! Tucked away near the railroad tracks in the strip, this restaurant has convenient complementary valet service, a vibrant bar with live music, a separate dining room with great acoustics (we could hear the music in the bar, were aware of other conversations at the tables around us, yet had an intimate dining experience). The wine list was extensive. The sommelier listened to our preferences and delivered a delightful sauvignon blanc at a good price. The food was excellent - I had the tuna tartare appetizer, spanish mackerel entree and almond crust cheesecake dessert. All delicious! Highly Recommend Cioppino!"

  • "We came on a weekend evening as part of the restaurant week activities. We both ordered the tasting menu that was developed for the week, as well as the wine pairing. The first course was a clam chowder, which was paired with a chardonnay. It was quite delicious, and we were using the bread to clean the plates. We were expecting the second course to be a beef medallion dish, however, we received quite the treat when we received a small plate of seared tuna and a potato crisp compliments of the chef, because we booked with Open Table. The beef medallions were quite scrumptious and was paired with a Ghost Pines Merlot. We finished with dessert, which was a little bit too sweet for my dining partner's taste, but overall it was a great dinner"

  • "Interesting combo of fine white linen dining, hopping bar with live jamming band, and private cigar bar. Lengthy wine list and creative menu offering. Wait staff teamed up to keep us well served while balancing a large table nearby... we'lll be back!"
