Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, service and exciting night out with a few friends. Great overall experience."

  • "We ate at Cinquecento on a Saturday night in a party of four. The appetizers, entrees, desserts and wine were all fantastic. I highly recommend the Bolognese. The restaurant has a great scene, great service and if you like great Italian food, you will also leave extremely satisfied. Two thumbs up!"

  • "I stopped by Cinquecento one Friday night for a drink having never been there before but having enjoyed other Aquitaine restaurants. I took a look at the Campari covered pillars (and of course the menu) and decided that I had to come back for the food. So the next week I brought a group of friends there for brunch and we were all blown away by the food. Service was great, coffee was superb, the cherry chocolate crepes were to die for. We came away not stuffed but completely satisfied and everyone of us planning our next brunch trip together. Can't wait to get a group together this week for dinner! This is definitely my new favorite Aquitaine and will be for a while."

  • "Service was fabulous and food was delicious. What more can I say???"

  • "Good menu, good food and service. We had a 7 pm reservation on a Saturday night. All started well; as the evening went along, the lights dimmed (that was ok with us) but the noise level grew and finally we decided to go somewhere else for desert and tea as it was almost impossible to have a conversation without shouting. We like that this restaurant has free parking."

  • "This place is so good. Amazing italian if you're looking to avoid the craziness of the North End."

  • "The food was excellent. This was my second visit and I would definitely go again."

  • "Waiter was very inattentive--left us for long periods of time before taking our orders. Very noisy--and we were in a booth. The food was fine but not good enough for a return visit anytime soon."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating with our late arrival and request for a livelier corner. having got past the "everything is good" recommendation our waiter, Jonathan was very helpful and personal. The kale salad, and octo pus were especially good as was the pasta al ragu. Didn't get to try the legendary ice creams. The chocolate budino was like a lava cake. nice but nothing new. The pans cotta was exceptional; not too sweet and liked the crunch of the praline almonds that went with it. Yes, would go back and would try some of the other places in the group ****"

  • "This is becoming one of my favorite choices in the south end. They really have it down. From the moment we walked in, we were created by a very attentive host, who took our coats and made us feel welcome. His name was Dan and he really seemed to be on top of everything (as were the other 2 or 3 people working with him!). The food was great. We started with the octopus and the fried baby artichokes which were both amazing. We then had the gnocchi and the chicken which were also outstanding. Even the bread and olive oil was top notch. The whole experience, from being able to park in the south end, to the wonderful waitstaff and front end staff, to the deliciously prepared food… this place is really great."

  • "This is a South End gem! Just down the street from the tasty Gaslight - all the elegance with reasonable prices!"

  • "Cinquecento is in a space which used to be Rocca, one of my neighborhood favorites, so I didn't go there until the nostalgia wore off...my mistake, it was excellent - friendly helpful service, great Italian wine list, best Italian food I've had outside of Rome. Had 3 appetizers and an entree and look forward to many other dishes on the menu."

  • "I have now eaten here twice & Am already craving to go back!!! It's a fabulous atmosphere with an authentic Italian menu. The bucatini carbonara is the best! Exceptional wine list with great options"

  • "I had been to Cinque several times before, but this was the first time for Restaurant Week. I was very happy to see that the RW servings were every bit as large and delicious as usual. And we never felt rushed, unlike some other places during this time."

  • "we went here for restaurant week and none of us were thrilled with the meal itself. Good food but definitely not as great as we expected. the lemon cake for dessert was the star and I would have gladly replaced part of my meal for an extra helping! place was really nice for both groups and dates. had a fun sexy ambiance."

  • "portions larger than dinner..cant beat the price for $9.95. fig french toast was delish and right up my alley!"

  • "Came in hearing great things. It did not disappoint. I'm a former hotel concierge in Boston so I've eaten at my fair share of restaurants. This was by far the best Italian food I've had in the city. Already made reservations for next week."

  • "Food was delicious, ambience was energentic and fun - good group spot. We were seated five inches away from a party of 6 which was a bit loud and crowded but bearable. Server was very friendly and attentive at first but definitely forgot about us. Took about 45 minutes for our food to come out which was a bit extreme. We went somewhere else for dessert, couldn't stand to wait longer. Too bad the service ruined was would've been a perfect meal."

  • "We were two at a 5:00 revs because we had theater tickets for 6:30. Location and parking is excellent for before theater dining. Service was the best from entire staff. Waiter was excellent with a light touch and great knowledge of entire menu, wine offerings, and special drinks. The restaurant week menu proved to be delightful and plentiful. One of the best restaurant week menus encountered in Boston. Rialto is the only competition. From the authentic Italian bread to the after dinner drinks, this dining experience exceeded our expectations."

  • "Unable to seat reservations appropriately, and a waiter that was not up to speed. However, a manager stepped in to make service more effective and appetizers made up for the wait. Amazing food!! Lovely space."

  • "When I made the reservation I didn't realize that Cinquecentro part of a restaurant group. The tables are packed in so tightly you can easily converse with your neighbors whether you want to or not! The noise level is LOUD and the music leaves a lot to be desired. This was more a suburban experience than an urban experience. Our cocktails were delivered swiftly and two minutes later our meals were in front of us. This was not the dining experience we were expecting. We sent the meals back. The waiter apologized but we couldn't help feel that this was just a food factory. In fairness the trout was prepared beautifully but given the other parameters we will not return."

  • "We haven't been here since Rocca. WOW... What a difference... Food was Very good(portions sizes on Veal, Salami Board could have been bigger), Wine list was huge, Loved the different size options. Service was good but could have been more personable. He seemd like a machine. Here are the specials, I like the most expensive thing, Thank you..... Then dropped the check. We will most definetly be back!!!! Keep it up!"

  • "Good Italian food, service fell off sharply by the end of the meal."

  • "Other than an a attempt to seat us at a busy table near the wait staff booth, the evening, waitress and the food were terrific. I've been before and will definitely eat here again. It was quality for the (reasonable) cost of dinner."

  • "We celebrated part of my husband's 30th birthday with brunch at Cinquecento. When we arrived, he had a sweet card signed all of the waitstaff wishing him a happy birthday. We were a group of 9 guests and they quickly seated us even though we were a few minutes early. There was a food item that the restaurant ran out of that morning so a few people in our group needed to quickly make a second choice. I believe everyone was satisfied with their drinks and meals. The ambiance was great...it had a casual, but sophisticated feel. I was a bit confused with the waitstaff wearing what I believe to be soccer jerseys, but that didn't deter from the great service."

  • "I had my birthday dinner at Cinquecento with 5 of my friends on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was packed, but we were seated on time. The acoustics were great and the 6 of us could all carry on a conversation without shouting at one another. The cocktails and wine were great. Everyone agreed that the food was delicious (cheese/salami board, squash ravioli, carbonara, sea bass). Our server was attentive, but gave us our time/space. Overall, Cinquecento exceeded my expectations!"

  • "Five stars all round. The best meal I've had in ages. Would eat here weekly if my budget allowed."

  • "Food was good, we had a big variety and everything good good reviews. App portions were small. Service was just OK, seemed rushed. The servers were abrupt and seemed frazzled. Waiter was nice but we felt rushed by him as well. Overall probably not worth the money for just an OK experience."

  • "We went there for the first time and it was wonderful and we intend on going back very soon. The food was amazing and reasonably priced and cocktails were tasty. Sheila (the manager) hooked us up with the best table in the place. Our waiter knew the menu inside and out & took special care to find out from the chef when I mentioned my allergies. Fantastic night we had."

  • "Great brunch deal, good service and a very nice setting. They have a brunch deal which is pretty incredible for $9.99.. coffee, fresh juice, a donut and an entree. The coffee is good here and the 2 entrees we got were good. Got the french toast with bacon, figs and maple syrup and the frittata (which was decent, but not amazing). Last time we were here we got this dish that came with sausages and cheese and tomatoes and eggs in an iron skillet. It was AMAZING! I also love the dinners here, but this review was for brunch."

  • "I loved the food in this place - every dish we ordered was great. The ambience was awesome as the place was bustling with good energy. Our waitress was great but my only complaint is the portion sizes are small for what they cost."

  • "I had been to this restaurant a few weeks ago and it was great however this most recent time was more than a little disappointing. I went with 5 friends and I must say we were continually rushed, even when we gently asked the waiter to slow down a bit. Even the kitchen seemed to be trying to push everything out as soon as possible. As a result, we literally got our entrée after we finished our last bite of appetizer. My entrée (veal) was cold and had to be sent back but I must say the others in our party ordered the bolongnese and it was among the best I've tasted."

  • "We went to Cinquecento last week and liked it so well, came back with 2 friends this week. Food was good, but a little uneven. FOr example I got the pan roasted chicken which came with very little au jus this time compared with last week and my friend had the pasta with sausage and cognac cream sauce which came with very little sauce this time. So while still good, a bit inconsistent"

  • "I had lived in Europe for years, and Cinquecento felt very authentic. Definitely not Americanized. Dessert could have been a little better, though. It lacked in creativity and presentation."
