Diner Reviews
  • "Love going here especially when weather allows outdoor dining. Great food choices, both for light and more substantial meals. Food is always excellent."

  • "Delicious imaginative food (fabulous, actually!), nice lively atmosphere, attentive waiters. Great!"

  • "The beef carpaccio was exquisite and my wife's Tuna tartar looks was good as well (but she wouldn't let me have any of it)."

  • "My family of 6 enjoyed a celebratory dinner on Thursday night - great food, excellent service and the atmosphere was festive. I will definitely return here. We had a lot of fun - so glad we were able to sit outside but look forward to indoor seating when the weather cools off. Can't say enough about the waitstaff - they were very attentive without being annoying. Highly recommend."

  • "The food was quite good, but there was a long, long wait for last course which spoiled the overall experience. My dinner guests were clearly put off. Perhaps they are understaffed. Also, it was very noisy which made it hard to hear each other at a round table of four."

  • "I have been there a number of times but last night was an off night. My steak was a bit tough but tasted good. our side of Brussel sprouts was late but delicious. All-in-all it was bit pricier than expected it was listed as $$ but it should be $$$ or $$$$."

  • "We had an amazing meal! Starting with a great kale salad, fried artichokes and the best plate of pasta that I've ever had. Our server, Anna, was attentive and knowledgable. She was nice enough to let us sample a couple of wines to help us make the right selection. Can't wait to come back."

  • "The food was great. This was our second visit to Cinquecento and both times the food was very good. On our first visit, the service was great, but this time not so much. The hostess appeared to have sat a bunch of tables at once and seemed confused about the rest of us who were waiting and had reservations. Once we got that sorted out, our waiter seemed indifferent to his job. He would swing by periodically and check on us, but seemed distracted and uninterested in his diners. It was a letdown for sure."

  • "First never mind the food ...free parking in this part of Boston is a real plus. Now for the food. Everything is well prepared and delicious. Mushroom soup for my wife tuna tartare for me. Both absolutely delicious. Main course of lamb chops also delicious. Now for the ambience... A very tastefully done interior. We sat at the booth next to the bar and it didn't have that I'm in the sports bar feel that so many have. A very intimate Italian Tratoria feel"

  • "Good to see a place where they actually have some real Roman dishes, have to go back for the Cacio e Pepe!"

  • "I'll start with the positives. Ambience, A+. Waitstaff, A++. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Food, good. Decent, solid, you're not going to get a bad meal here. Ingredients are quality and fresh. Presentation, also A+. Here's where the negative comes in. There's something missing in the food and it's hard to put my finger on it, but I want to say that it's that homemade, Grandma's in the kitchen overseeing the cooking, kind of thing. There's something inauthentic about it....like a theme restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not overall outstanding. I feel that with so many authentic little trattorias so close by in and around the North End, this one falls a little short."

  • "As group of friends we had the worst evening ever celebrating a young couple who married that same day. Service was inattentive , and poorly managed. Food was way overrated and expensive for the microscopic portions served , especially if tables wants to share between guests. The waiter after I asked to do something special for our friends dessert , told us he wasn't sure what to do and I was really upset he couldn't even bring a dessert with a candle on it or something festive. Over all the place was loud , we felt it was very highly priced and way overrated and poor service. I would not be returning unless they renew the menu and hire a better staff with less attitude toward the client."

  • "Since we only had two nights in Boston, I spent almost an hour looking at reviews for Italian restaurants. Cinquecento's menu stood out as innovative and authentic. I wasn't wrong. We had a fabulous meal, redolent of our time in Italy. Highly recommended!"

  • "I can't say enough good things about Cinquecento. We had a group of 9 people but had two late comers that arrived over an hour late. Instead of being frustrated with us, the staff were incredibly patient and kind to us. I couldn't tell you how grateful I was for their superior customer service in such a stressful situation. The value for the meal was impeccable. I highly recommend. Great proximity to SOWA and ample access to public parking. How can you not love it?"

  • "The service was definitely NOT the best. Food was great. Cool atmosphere but our server was extremely slow and not the least bit apologetic. Had he at least acknowledged that he forgot about us or was in the weeds that would have been totally fine by us, but the fact that he avoided it...not cool."

  • "Cinquecento has a good selection of choices for brunch. Blueberry French toast was delicious. Also, if you have someone on a restricted diet there are a number of options from the menu that can work for them. Service was very good even on a busy Sunday afternoon."

  • "My new favorite place for brunch. Try the eggs with mushrooms and salsa verde. Loved the Kale salad as well. Great coffee, great service!"

  • "We had a memorable dinner here some time ago and decided to come for brunch. Our group's choices ranged from pasta dishes (bolognese and carbonara) to fried eggs with perfectly seasoned mushrooms, a fresh spinach salad, and polenta with eggs. Delicious offerings, casual trendy atmosphere, and great service."

  • "Have been a dinner guests in the past, always look forward to returning. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and a manager always finds time to stop by every table. A great, fun place to dine and drink. The menu specials are delicious, it is hard to choose with so many options."

  • "Had a great dining experience there on Saturday night. Food was excellent (I'm still thinking about the rigatoni dish I ordered) and the services was great. Our waiter was extremely friendly, even just making random conversation which was a nice instead of the usual, impersonal experience with wait staff. Best part was, after a bottle of wine, an appetizer, a choice of meat from the salumi menu and 2 entrees, the bill was FAR less then what I had expected! Highly recommend"

  • "What a great night! The food is amazing, our server Erin was great, the setting is attractive and comfortable. A new favorite. We dined indoors, but great outdoor patio! Between the four of us we had carbonara, the Veal Chop and the branzino. It was all terrific and we cleared our plates. The starters were great too, a grilled carpacci, mussels and a bruschetta. The desserts were also yummy, especially the semifredo lemon cake, yum! A must go!"

  • "We took a friend to Cinquecento visiting from Hawaii. The food was terrific. The Rigatoni alla Norcia (Fennel Sausage, Cognac Cream, Basil, Pecorino) was outstanding. Had it before and will have it again, again, and again. Dining partner had Filetto di Vitello con Cavolo (Prosciutto Wrapped Veal Tenderloin,‏ Cabbage Fondue and Marsala) that was absolutely delicious. Great vibe in the room. Service was very good. Apparently, we had a newbie server (couldn't tell) who gave good suggestions and helped moved the meal along at a comfortable pace. We love this restaurant!"

  • "Love this place. Only thing that I don't like is the host tries to seat a party of 5 in a round table with a sort of banquette type seating where you can only sit in the rounded corner of the table, basically 3/4 of the table, where a quarter of the table is basically wasted. He tried seating us there and there weren't even many people nor tables occupied yet(we had reservations of course through Open Table so it's not like they were trying to accommodate us by squeezing us in(no pun intended). I had to ask to be seated elsewhere. This is the second time this has happened to us, although I didn't ask to be transferred the first time. "

  • "Not only is the food fantastic, and the parking free, but the staff is incredible. How many times does a hostess, who has confirmed the reservation, say how nice it it to finally me us!?"

  • "Went here to celebrate my parents 36th anniversary. Could not have picked a more charming place. We all got the rigatoni and thought it was to die for. I wish they had sat us in the main part of the restaurant rather than in the bar area, but everything else was so stellar I''m willing to overlook that."

  • "Our server, David, was wonderful - charming and attentive."

  • "Found this restaurant around the neighborhood from home. It's pricey, but for the food's taste and freshness I would come again. It's the modern Italian and sense of fusion to me. I love the chef's effort especially on the sea bass."

  • "Attractive decorations and a nice ambiance. The fresh ricotta was divine, but everything else was just okay. The spices in the octopus appetizer were somewhat overpowering, and my swordfish was swimming in a sea of pungent mustard. The service was mediocre; our server seemed irritated when I asked what Italian terms on the menu meant and took a while to refill our waters. When I asked them to call a taxi, they first told me to call my own uber before calling the cab. "

  • "Perfect choice for brunch (or any meal actually). Wide range of menu options - all in our party loved their dishes. Friendly and efficient service. And, there's parking - amazing! Have eaten here many times and will keep coming back. "

  • "My wife & I returned to Boston after a 43 year absence to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. We recently visited Italy and were looking for an opportunity to relive that experience. This place hit the spot! The staff warmly greeted us, were attentive and went out of their way to treat us "special" on our special day. The food was fabulous and the decor very pleasing to the eye. The Matre d and wait staff were exceptional. The next time you're in Boston, don't miss this treat."

  • "We had a wonderful first experience at Cinquecento. From the Ricotta fresca to the spicy mussel broth, to the Bolognese that my wife claimed to be the best she ever had, describing it as a reminder of how your grandmother cooked it was exceptional regional Italian food. Great wine list and our server Eric was very knowledgeable about the food and wine and brought a great dessert wine recommendation to pair with the budino that we got as well. We can't wait to come back again"

  • "Heard a lot about this place on Phantom Gourmet. It definitely did not live up to my expectations. Took my wife here for her birthday, had an early reservation. The waiter didn't know the menu. He was overloaded with tables. The food was average, lacked flavors. I know I won't be going back."

  • "Six for dinner. We all tried different entrees and enjoyed them all. Pasta, lamb chops, fish - very lovely presentations and everything tasted quite authentic and fresh. Salads all came out somewhat under dressed; additional dressing was requested and came to the table immediately. Extensive wine list. All Italian wines. The bartenders and waiters were very helpful translating "California" preferences to the wines on hand. Fun evening. The atmosphere was unique. Chic and cozy all at the same time. The decor re-do and the new expansive bar area makes great use of some great space."

  • "500 used to be my fave in south end. The food remained great but the service has gotten appealing. First drink at the bar - barmen were sort of doing us a favor by giving us drinks. Then they disappeared to watch the tv behind the bar (I am not kidding you!) so we had to wait to settle. Then similar experience at the table. Highlight of bad service there was offering a bottle of 2007 wine, the waiter brings same wine but 2006, I call him on it and I get a nochalant response - oh the 'numbers' we have on the menu are just for show and it's all the same anyway. You get the point. Left ticked off and won't be back. "

  • "We came here for Mother's Day and had an amazing waiter (a southern gentleman with great manners, very knowledgable about the menu, on his A game!) Great service makes such a difference! Food was awesome. My mother and I split the veal salad and the lemon ricotta creeps. We were perfectly full, not overly stuffed and both dishes were awesome. I would highly recommend the veal salad - the crepe were tasty but had I not been sharing the veal too I think I would not have been full enough. A must go! The Bloody Mary's were awesome too!!"
