A word from Cinghiale - Enoteca (Wine Bar)
The Enoteca at Cinghiale celebrates the modern Italian table. It is designed to be a playful section of the restaurant, as well as a gathering place; the center of downtown where everyone goes to meet over business and social occasions. The space has a lively urban bustle that features rich woods, wrought iron chandeliers and a handcrafted marble tile floor. The centerpiece is a 40-ft mustard-yellow marble bar flanked by two bronze wild boar sculptures that appear to be lunging into the space from the wild. Adjacent to the main bar is a Salumeria that features traditional meats, cheeses and antipasti; each prepared in open view. The Enoteca staff is highly trained on Italian wines and looks forward to serving you from the over 400 label selection. There are approximately 40 wines by the glass. Food & Wine magazine recognized Cinghiale for having one of the best new wine lists in the country for 2008.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We felt as though we showed off Baltimore with a dinner at the Osteria. Everything was perfect: food, service, ambience. Slight problem with the sommelier who wasn't too friendly. Overall, though, a very enjoyable evening."

  • "After reading much praise and having an excellent bread basket and delicious olive oil as well as a very good first course of beets and ricotta, the rest of the meal never lived up to the promise of the start. Over cooked pasta clumped together under a lack of sauce and the dessert budino featured a dry cake (but very good sorbetto). A pretty skimpy wine pour too and when a glass costs $17, I don't expect a filled-to-the-top glass but I do expect my full ounces. Sadly, I don't think I'll be back when I'm next in B'more. Too many other places to try."

  • "Cinghiale is definitely one of the top restaurants in Baltimore. Great food, wine, location, you can't beat it."

  • "Overall our experience at Cinghaile was nice. Asked for date night reservations and got a nice romantic table for 2 next to a window which looked out towards the harbor (unfortunately there is a construction project at the moment). The wine list was a massive tome and I was in over my head so I had the server bring us 2 glasses of white. We did the Della Nonna pris fix menu and unfortunately both of our entrees were overly salty and not very enjoyable. It was the only disappointing moment in the experience and dessert was superb."

  • "This is one very consistent restaurant. It has been very good every time we go there. Food, wine, and atmosphere were very good."

  • "Dined here before and it was fantastic! I brought a friend here from out of town. My experience this night did not meet expectations. Hopefully it was just an off night for chef and waitress. Tagliatelle was over cooked and completely stuck together. Sauce was unable to coat pasta. Waitress graciously offered to bring something else, so ordered the large portion of rabbit cannelloni. When arrived, it was the small plate. By the time 2 more arrived in 15 min I was sufficiently digested but ate it anyway. Guest brought a glass of wine she didn't order. Lamb bruschetta was divine and leg of lamb was very good. Rabbit pasta was velvety and the creamy sauce was perfect compliment. The pairings the wine steward chose were perfect."

  • "My girlfriend and I both decided on the $62 prizzo fisso menu and neither of us had a course that wasn't amazing. The service was outstanding as well; all the members of the staff that we interacted with were very attentive. (Let it be noted we sat in the enoteca section of the restaurant)"

  • "We took friends here as a wedding present on our recommendation. We've had several great dining experiences here, but this time was disappointing. Service was erratic. Food came out barely warm. So embarrassed. I think I owe them another present."

  • "bruschetta was far too oily; pasta was undercooked (not merely al dente) and room temperature (suggesting that dishes were poorly timed); muschroom/marsala sauce that accompanied chicken breast tasted like corn oil; tiramisu was soggy, not moist; lasagna was lacking in flavor. salad was good. service was very good. attractive interior."

  • "The food here is a break from the hum-drum. Excellent flavor combinations executed well. Yes the portions are smallish, but their tasting menu will leave you satisfied, not stuffed."

  • "Food is outstanding; the server's selections were perfect as was the wine recommendation. We ate in the Enotecca which is a bit noisier as the bar is there but we prefer that. Only complaint is the hard unpadded wooden benches. When u are having a 4 course meal you want to be more comfortable for the 2 hours you spend there!"

  • "As always our dinner at Cinghiale was wonderful. Even though we make a mistake and booked a table in the Enoteca instead of the Osteria (main dining room), he was gracious and seat us in the main dining room at one of our favor server's tables. The food was suberb and reflected the talents of Chef Marotocci. The pasta all home made and seasoned just right!! The problem with the food is what not to order as all the dishes are so outstanding. Our waiter Max L was great as usual. He always remembers our wine and brings it to the table without us asking. There isnt better Italian food anyplace. Well worth our hour's drive!!"

  • "I had made a reservation for 6 at 5:00 when the restaurant first opened. Although we were the only ones in the restaurant for some time we were seated at a door right next to the entrance ( ambiance-none). I did request to be moved to another table even before we were seated and we were refused. the table I requested did not get filled until 7:00. I had made my reservation more then a week in advance so I am not sure why we got such a poor table location. The food was good but the way we were told that we could not move or were not offered another table even if the one I pointed out was reserved left a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). Not sure I will ever return."

  • "The evening we went, the noise level was so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. Our table close to the kitchen door was so hectic and busy that we could not relax and enjoy our meal. The short rib that I had was extremely fatty."

  • "This was our first time at Cinghiale and it was for Restaurant Week. The menu was small, but everything we tried was excellent. Our server was very attentive and the overall service was great. We will certainly dine here again."

  • "The service was fantastic. They were very attentive and very prompt with serving everything. The food was delicious, however, if you are dining here you should know that the portions are not overwhelmingly big like most restaurants. A nice place for a three course meal when going on a special date!"

  • "There is nothing we don't like about Cinghiale. Our experiences there--with a big group in the wine room and as a party of two--were both equally splendid. Comp valet parking before you even enter. Attentive and informed hosts and servers. Enjoyed everything we ordered--ravioli, short ribs, soups, cheese plate, etc. Outstanding wine list with bottles for every budget. On our most recent visit, we were seated in the beautiful wine room--quiet and elegant. If you are looking for an authentic Italian Osteria--and really reasonable in cost for a high end experience, this is a must try. And we are already wondering when we can get back on a future trip to town."

  • "We ate at this restaurant (in the wine bar section) for Valentine's Day, seeking amazing food and service to help celebrate a romantic evening. We ordered the pre fixe menu with wine parings. Overall, the food was good, the service was alright (we were rushed by server to order, finish courses/wine, and the wine pairing with our main course arrived several minutes after the food), but given that the price was astronomical, we were not impressed and won't be returning to this restaurant."

  • "We've been here on a date night and with my parents and it's great for both. For the date night though, I recommend the fancier side of the restaurant. It's the exact same menu, but far less children so the noise level is better for a date/conversation. Always delicious and the wine flight option is very nice if you don't want to go for the full wine pairing."

  • "We visit the restaurant several times a year, introducing out-of-town friends to one of my two favorites in the city. Cocktails are magical. Both the beef and lamb were exquisite last . Great wine suggestions for pairings. The bread, charcuterie, and other details take me back to Italy. Every meal has been excellent!"

  • "We love this restaurant! Living in Northern Virginia, we can't get here often, but when we can it's a real treat. This is the first time we dined in the Enoteca (wine bar/casual area), but it was just as enjoyable as the Osteria. Everything is wonderful, so it's hard to recommend just one thing. I do love the cheese and meat platters - they're always so good when prepared properly (they slice everything fresh to order, and in the appropriate manner - makes all the difference). I had the Spaghetti alla Chitarra with Shrimp. The fresh homemade pasta makes all the difference! It literally melts in your mouth. Every time we go the service is excellent and have a truly wonderful experience. Worth every penny!"

  • "I notified the restaurant that it was our anniversary and they were fabulous. The maître d brought us a complimentary champagne cocktail and an amuse bouche. The food was perfectly prepared and we found the service attentive and professional and also not intrusive."

  • "We went as a couple for a special occasion and weren't disappointed. We chose one of each of the two prix fixe options and shared courses. The bread, appetizer, salad, pasta, and entrees were just wonderful -- I'm still thinking of them! Skip the dessert, though; they have a new pastry chef and what we ordered (tiramisu and chocolate boudino) were boring and frankly not worth the money. The server was very helpful with a wine selection (I'm at a loss about Italian wines), but the service overall was a little inconsistent (too long delays, too many staff who didn't coordinate service). It was a busy night, though, and we were in the Enoteca and not the fancy part of the restaurant. Overall, though, I'd go again with no hesitation!"

  • "Went on a night where the menu had turned over completely from out previous outing at Cinghiale. Went (almost) all-out in trying new items. Everything one a home run. Our server Rachel was attentive, fun and informative. The spaghetti alla chitarra with black truffles alone was worth the drive."

  • "We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and originally had a reservation on the bar side. The maître de said they had a romantic table available in the main dining room if we wanted it. It was the perfect table to celebrate this occasion. The food was spectacular as was the service."

  • "We visited Cinghiale Enoteca with friends this weekend. We like it better than the formal restaurant. The décor is more interesting and it is much more lively. We asked for and got a window table. Our friends each ordered J&B scotch in their cocktails. My wife and I went with a glass of wine and a Johnny Walker Black. Our two drinks arrived quickly, but our server told my friends the restaurant no longer offers J&B. Fair enough, but after changing their orders, our friends waited FOREVER for their drinks to arrive, as if their order went to the end of the queue. Seems like they should have hustled to get back to them quickly with their alternatives. After that, everything was great. We really like the Enoteca and will return again."

  • "Cinghiale was one of our top five dining experiences we had while visiting Baltimore. We ended up eating at the bar since the restaurant seemed to be packing up. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable about wines (not just Italian wine, either) and was welcoming. Although we arrived a bit later in the evening as we hoped, the grilled octopus, cheese selection and pastas were exceptional. We would have loved to go back to Cinghiale, but our weekend plans were pretty booked. I would definitely recommend the place to others w/more food-centered interests and to wine enthusiasts."

  • "Great place for delicious Italian food! We decided to try the octopus and calamari to have a taste test... Both were amazing! The octopus was perfectly paired with the grapefruit and the calamari was delicious and buttery. I had the risotto as my meal and it was amazing! The gnocchi was also perfect! Along with the food, the service was top notch."

  • "from the moment we entered the restaurant we knew we were in for a nice time. beautiful space, furniture, and lighting. and then the first thing to notice is a station for salumi and prosciutto being sliced right next to a pile of beautiful breads. service was prompt and professional. the 29 nonna prix fixe was a deal. look forward to going again."

  • "Brought my in-laws on a Saturday night for dinner in the Enoteca. Impeccable service without the stuffiness. Our pasta dishes were each delicious. The tortelloni was especially impressive. Boston-based in-laws were (pleasantly) shocked by the bill--would have easily been 40% more for the same quality in Boston."

  • "This was the first time my wife and I took advantage of the half price bottle pricing at Enoteca. This was an unusual mid-week date night and was definitely a hit. My wife commented what a great time she had. We struck up a conversation with a couple seated next to us that added to the social atmosphere."

  • "Wine list is daunting in its extensive coverage of Italian wines, but wine stewards and wait staff have been unerringly accurate in pointing our good matches with food selections. Sometimes surprising ones that worked well. Two levels of fixed price menus as well as option for a la carte make selecting among the great dishes easier, but still a tough choice among a tempting selection."
