Great food is about being inspired by the simple wonderments around you, whether it is fresh ingredients from the local markets or various spices from exotic parts of the world. Cijjo' Restaurant (pronounced "Shai Jo' ") is located in the heart of lovely downtown Mountain View. The concept of Cijjo' stemmed from a group of friends who are working professionals in Silicon Valley. Their passion for international travels and exploring various culinary cuisines created the unique and diverse menu your palette will experience. Their footsteps took them all over the world from Peru to France, from Cambodia to Morocco in search for specialized food, spices and a true culinary experience.
Here at Cijjo', we believe in great food, exotic wine and beer while dining in a great atmosphere and friendly environment. The friends of Cijjo' continue to travel and work closely with our talented chefs and kitchen staff to bring new flavor profiles to the Bay Area.

  • "Cijjo is a wonderful addition to the Castro St. dining scene in Mountain View. Fills the need for sophisticated fusion tapas -- and frankly, I think the food here is better, and better value, than Cascal (the other tapas-style restaurant in downtown MV). Particularly great dishes we tried: Squid ink pasta Spicy tuna trio Passion fruit ceviche Creme brulee Service can be a bit slow -- but their graciousness totally makes up for it."

  • "Ordered the Alasatian Tart Flambee ("French" Pizza with smoked bacon, carmelized onions, fromage cheese) and the Roasted Bone Marrow. Overall, it was good. The tart was tasty, crisp thin crust, sweet carmelized onions, and the fromage cheese was light and fragrant. The roasted bone marrow was alright. It isn't the best, but commendable. Definitely worth trying if you've never had it before."

  • "Many choices of little plates, of varied international cuisines. We chose the Passion fruit ceviche, served in a martini glass, so delicious I wanted to slurp the juice from the glass. A port poached pear salad on a large bed of greens included dried cherries and cheese. Another great choice was the truffle fries, followed by the vegetable tower, which was served warm with slices of many different vegetables. Desserts of Thai creme brûlée, containing keffir leaves as well as the bread pudding with caramel sauce were just a great ending. 3 of us shared this meal before the ballet for only $25 including tax and tip. We were satisfied with both food & attentive service. Will have to return as there are many other tapas I want to try."

  • "Really enjoyed the eclectic and delicious food. Service was excellent and the ambience lovely. The only thing that marred the experience was the TV which shouldn't have been on, since the bar is really part of the restaurant."

  • "Perhaps my expectations were too high based on the buzz about this place. I found the food tasty, but a little salty. Presentation was nice. I had the artichoke soup and their torte, which is essentially pizza. Scallops were nicely seared. The bread pudding was the most notable item we ordered. Delicious! Overall, very pricey for the portions. Plastic chairs were uncomfortable, like at a school picnic. Server was very attentive. Food arrived promptly. Place was noisy, so it was hard to have a conversation. Decor is very modern and pleasant. "

  • "It was incredibly noisy and quite cramped which dampened the ability to enjoy the meal. Food was not particularly flavorful or satisfying. Cocktail was diluted. Server was eager to go home; I won't be back and wouldn't recommend. "

  • "We had the price fixed menu for the Silicon Valley Restaurant Week. $35 for 4 courses. $20 for wine pairing with food. Some excellent stand out food such as the artichoke bisque and both desserts- beignets and choc. mouse cake. Other food (chicken, veg tarte, port pear salad) was good, well seasoned. Interesting charcuterie board. The steak was cooked well and seasoned well, but really tough. The wine pairings were excellent with several standing out from Italy. I would go again."

  • "Pros-We enjoyed the food at Cijjo and the staff was friendly. Cons- Waiting 10 mins to be greeted. No one seems to know their job or their role. They are way understaffed. Everyone just runs around trying to put out fires and no one gets service. No leadership. The manager runs around apologizing to everyone saying there is a 20-30 min backup in the kitchen. Don’t apologize; hire enough help so that you’re hard working staff has a chance to succeed. Bottomless Mimosa's but they never get filled. No enough space for all the cons We liked the food enough to try Cijjo again sometime in the future. That said, I will not recommend them to anyone until they prove they can correct what is a huge problem. People have way too many choices out there."

  • "My husband and I went to Cijjo last weekend and were disappointed by both the food and service. We ordered 4 "tapas" and a salad. There didn't seem to be any logic in the order that the food arrived - we got the fries first, then the ox tail, then bone marrow, then the salad, and, finally, fresh oyster on the half shell. Service was eager but not polished. Our truffle fries went to our neighbor's table. Inquiries about the missing oysters did not result in immediate ramification. Food was, in a word, underwhelming. The truffle fries were too rich, the ox tail tasted like wine (and not much else), the lentil curry that it came with was overpowering. The asparagus "salad" had no discernible dressing nor taste."

  • "Overpriced. Food was good but not great. Wine pours were SKIMPY. No alcohol only beer and wine. There "signature drink" wasn't very good, we had them take it back and got a beer instead. Overall, very underwhellming. Service was was the best part."

  • "We went for Valentine's Day and had a prix fixe menu. For $55 without wine, it was reasonable. The salad was really substantial and nice flavors. We were also able to pick 2 tapas dishes, which were very good and met our expectations. The dessert were also very substantial and excellent quality ingredients (chocolate). We would go back again."

  • "Based on all of the glowing write-ups, we decided to try Cijjo on a Saturday night at 7:30 pm. We were seated right away with a reservation. Pluses: - The tarte flambee was good, light crust, tasty ham. - The white bass carpaccio had a good flavor, but the slices were thick like sashimi. - The veggie tower was excellent. - Friendly, attentive, and apologetic waitstaff. Room for improvement: - They had sold out of 3 of the 4 dishes we picked (by 7:30pm on a saturday). - The place was very crowded and the waitstaff had to squeeze between the tables to move around. - Our server was doubling as the hostess. Staff seemed stressed - No liquor license."

  • "We had a Sat. night reservation and were seated promptly. The restaurant is extremely noisy. You have to shout to be heard. My friend ordered a salad and I ordered soup. We also shared a scallop small plate. Service was very spotty. The salad and scallops arrived together but no soup. I had to ask twice before it arrived. The salad and soup should have been served together as a first course and then the scallops later. The dayboat scallop small plate consisted of 3 very small scallops. One was less that a single bite!. For $14 this was extremely overpriced."

  • "We were running late for the theater and needed a quick dinner. They were accommodating. We ordered salad-the beet burrata(sp?), and the pear salad. Both were tasty. I was expecting more in the way of beets. As the earlier post said, the wine pour looks small although the wine glass is delicate."

  • "Cijjo's small and large plates were delicious and satisfying. Steak, mussels, and beet buratta were flavorful and well presented. The artichoke soup was amazing, but could have been a little warmer as the creme fraiche cooled it down some before it arrived at our table. The modern decor with white chairs was fun and balanced well with the international cuisine. We will definitely return to sample the rest of the menu."

  • "We tried Cijjo as alternate to wonderful Cascal. Oh my...chef was out (waiter: "His gall bladder exploded") & everything fell apart. Menu items out.Ran out of sparkling water.Salads took forever so waiter gave us free champagne.Lovely token but 3 of us weren't drinking. Tapas arrived. Hangar steak & veggie tower = excellent.Tagine lamb tasted like a can of baked beans mixed w/meat chunks.Friend didn't enjoy bone marrow. Willing to pay well, but overpriced. We were charged for free champagne! Innocent but final straw.Manager came out from helping in kitchen. She apologized & said she'd take off 30% off but math was wrong: she took off less & removed champagne. Negative 1st impression & food not good enough for prices to warrant a 2nd go."

  • "Three tiny scallops were smaller than a quarter and overcooked = $14.00. Maybe their wine glasses are misleading but the pours seem very small. The goat cheese salad was below average (I can definately make better at home). Just don't go is all I can say. Really wanted to have a cool new place to go on Castro but this won't be it."

  • "Still working out the kinks of a new restaurant. Food was presented nicely, but overpriced for fairly bland food. Better tapas at several other restaurants. Pork belly was completely lacking in flavor. São Paulo steak was simply hanger steak marinated in vinegar with chimichuri on the side. Tuna rolls were more like canned tuna fish spread than a nice ahi poke. Maybe worth a repeat visit once they have more experience under their belt. Nice decor."
