We tried this restaurant after reading the other reviews but the food was hit or total miss. I would not recommend any of the specials but the tradittional dishes were good. ( duck, snails, pear tart)

This local French restaurant is a favorite of ours. Very relaxing, lovely decor, friendly warm service and great food. The outdoor lounge is quite comfortable, clean and pleasant - you will not realize you are on the corner of a busy residential intersection. It was so pleasant that we chose to dine outdoors as well. The dining tables are comfortable. Service is always great here. The staff treats us like family. This time we shared several appetizers and the paella. Everything, as we've come to expect, is delicious, very "home cooked" feeling. Merci, Chef Denis - you put personalized care into every plate that is served!!

Service was excellent. Well trained and friendly staff. The food was a 8+ out of 10, Service was a 10. Prices were moderately high , the portions were generous. I ordered the orange duck with onion soup. The soup was thick , almost creamy, and excellent . The duck was cooked to perfection, the sauce was so-so , and smothered away the crispness of the ducks skin. This was a genuine nice neighborhood find !

Denis' food is consistently fabulous. As the chef/owner he is hands-on in all aspects of this delightful restaurant. The complimentary pomme frites to start with are perfection. His soups are really his forte'. We had the gazpacho on our most recent visit. His French onion is to die for. His specials are always innovative and we've never been disappointed. He has a long time staff that treats everyone like they are family. Try the pork chop or the venison when they are featured specials. Cigale will become one of your favorites!

Love how your meal starts with delicious French fries and then comes the wonderful bread with olive tapenade. The French onion soup is the best I've ever had and the shrimp and scallop pasta is my favorite item on the menu. Friendly and prompt service.

Cigale is a great restaurant! We never would've found it by accident - just a little too far from the beaten path. But it's worth heading up to Oak Park for this place. The food is exquisite, the people really friendly. We loved it and will definitely return!

Cigale is one of those neighborhood gems that keeps you coming back. Have been here several times with my husband and have always found the food and service to be outstanding. what could be bad, dinner starts off with complimentary pom frites and a basket of warm foccacia type bread. There is something for everyone on the menu which includes, chicken, fish and beef dishes. The Paella, is absolutely delicious, loaded with seafood and definitely big enough to share. Beef bourguignon is fork tender and loaded with flavor. The chefs french influences shine through in every dish. A somewhat limited wine list so feel free to bring your own as corkage is only $10. Make sure you leave room for their amazing chocolate windmill cake.

My daughter, her husband, and I took my wife to Cigale to celebrate Mother's Day. We received a friendly greeting upon arrival, we were seated promptly, and our waitress appeared shortly to take our drink order. Free champaign-type drinks for the moms, with separate drink orders for dads. The moms enjoyed their drinks and the dads theirs. My Gibson was excellent. We all ordered different entrees which were well-prepared and presented, and of very good quality. Overall, a first-rate dining experience at a good price for what you receive in exchange. Finally, although the place was a bit noisy, it was much less so than most of the upscale restaurants I've visited in the area. This was my first visit, but I expect to return many times.

I took my wife and children to Cigale to celebrate Mother's Day. The food and service could not possibly have been any better. My only gripe...which is a minor one is that this fantastic restaurant is located in a strip mall next to a Subway! Other than that, Cigale is one of those places you simply need to try...

  • French bistro flunks
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 5/4/2013
A french bistro that can't make fish? The menu was very limited with mostly undesirable choices, which, other than an abundance of mussel choices, offered only two fish dishes -- salmon with dried fruit & rice and sturgeon with lentils -- both of which were dreadful. We fish eaters ordered the sturgeon ($30), which was smothered (disguised) in a horrible tomato sauce which was badly paired with awful lentils, and both the salmon and accompanying were dry and tasteless. I can't believe the chef claims to be french. The place was highly overpriced and the ambiance a turnoff - given that the focal point of this supposed French Bistro is a 60 foot television set. Yuk!

This is a great local restaurant. Sometimes not very busy, but I don't know why. We have been to Cigale several times, and it is always very good and the service is terrific. We love this restaurant. We have moved away, and at least 4 times a year when we are visiting the area where Cigale is, we will be eating there. It is just the best, most perfect restaurant you could hope for. They have added a couple of outdoor settings, with upscale furniture lounge style, and a nice group exterior spot . This place rocks. It is, in our opinion, difficult to find a good French restaurant outside of major cities. We were luck to find this "Gem". We had the beet salad and the onion soup which were both delicious. We shared the beef bourgione and the duck entrees. I recommend the beef, which had a certain special ingredient that the chef confirmed was part of the recipe. The duck was a bit too dry for my taste, but the l'orange sauce was very good. Both portions were generous. I appreciate that the chef does all the cooking and it showed in his food and presentation. We will definitely return when we are back in the Thousand Oaks area.

As always, my dining experience at Cigale was absolutely seamless. A cheery greeting; delightful, prompt and helpful service from waitress to support staff (they are far too polished to be called "busboys"), and the food... Denys created a Halibut with Lobster Sauce that was flavorful, moist, done to perfection, complemented by a fluffy vegetable couscous. Add wine, spinach salad and an indulgent dessert (shared with a friend), flourless chocolate cake. Loved every minute. We arrived at 6pm and left at 10! I recommend Cigale for any occasion, romantic or convivial. You really must go, and explore the menu!

Our first visit to Cigale which was recommended by friends was a great experience. We opted for their special 5-course shared special (Tues-Thurs) It gives you the option of one item from their menu of appetizer, salad, soup, entree, dessert which is split between two for $62. What a perfect way to try their food and the split portions were very generous. The corque monsiour was wonderful, the salad (goat cheese/spinach) had a delicate, tasty dressing, the french soup was delicious. We opted for the BOEUF BOURGUIGNON entree that came with mashed potatoes and two hearty sized pieces of beef each - tasty but a tad too salty. For dessert we enjoyed crepes suzette. We now know why this is a neighborhood gem
