Diner Reviews
  • "I usually avoid the part of the St. Louis riverfront devoted to casinos—gambling is a bore and gamblers are usually depressing—so I had qualms about a restaurant in a hotel across the street from the Lumiere Place Casino. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that The Four Seasons is a lovely hotel, not at all like the tacky joints I've seen in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. More importantly, I found that Cielo is a delightful restaurant, with good food, an attentive and efficient staff, and a wonderful view of downtown St. Louis and the river. I had simple brunch dishes, but they were prepared to perfection. My companions had more adventurous seafood preparations, and they raved over them. I look forward to going back."

  • "What a great experience. A mini vaca in our own hometown - even if just for the evening."

  • "We have had great so many experiences at Cielo that we now love to make reservations and then savor the anticipation. The new chef lived up to our anticipation again this time. Seafood and beef were both beautifully prepared. The wine list offered terrific choices, and the sommelier knew his list and helped us pick a white (Gaja) and a red (a 1997 York Creek) that we loved. Very pleasant."

  • "I have been to Cielo many times and have had many wonderful experiences there. I was in this weekend several times, twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The food was extremely salty with 2 of my 3 meals. My guests were impressed with their food as well, but there dinners were quite salty too. Breakfast was great, dinner was slighty disappointing as far as the food went."

  • "we had a groupon that was only good for the prix fixe menu which they have changed so there wasn't a lot to choose from- not good if you're a pickey eater like me. stick to the regular menu and you'll be very happy."

  • "Very well prepared dish. Small servings. We came for a special music event and chose to sit in the bar area. The noise level was not a good fit. The fish we had was good and plated with artistic flair."

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. I was part of a group of 8 for lunch. My salad was delicious. I have very specific allergies and the service was very accomodating, and I had no allergic reactions from the food. Love the view."

  • "The highlight of this restaurant is the atmosphere/view. Their drinks are also delicious and the staff are all so friendly and attentive without hovering over you. Food is great, we usually go for the simple bar menu they have delicious pizza!"

  • "Cielo has always been my "go to" for business lunches! The food and service has always been consistently great! They recently changed their lunch menu and while prices seemed to increase slightly, the quality of the food and the service continues to be a great value!"

  • "Our family dined outside and despite the drizzle, it was wonderful to have a view of the Arch and there was a nice breeze. We were under cover so the drizzle did not hamper the evening. The food was great although the lamb slightly overdone. The presentation of the food was wonderful and inviting. The wine mark-up is significant. The waiter and Maitre d' were very hospitable and took care care of us. I would definitely recommend others to this restaurant and I will most certainly visit again."

  • "We enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at Cielo. Food was delicious, but I missed those wonton crackers!"

  • "The view was gorgeous. It was actually raining (a steady slow rain) and we sat under the overhang. Was a perfect night. Food was very good. No complaints. Good wine list."

  • "Services were disjointed. Table helpers and our waiter not communicating. Helpers were clueless what dishes he was bringing out and for whom. Waiter wasn't around much. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees. One entree was a multicourse meal. The entrees arrived first. Appetizers were no where to be found. The helpers had no idea. A few min later the waiter came out and told us that they were being prepared. In the end, we were not charged for the 3 appetizers (nice of them). Later we asked one of the helpers for a dessert menu and he said he'll be back in 2 min. He never returned. We asked another waiter and we didn't see it either. Then our waiter appeared and we again asked for the dessert menu and finally got it."

  • "This is a great place to take out-of-towners as the view of the arch & downtown is stunning! Management is hands-on & staff is attentive. The food is good...nothing to write home about with the prices in the high range though, but you feel as if you've been on holiday while dining there."

  • "Each time that we bring a new couple there, they are so impressed with everything about the unique rooftop dining experience. And this time we all agreed that we felt like we were out of town at a beautiful resort! Food was deliciously prepared, small portions but that was ok, because the 4 course special allowed us to sample quite a bit and made for a full evening of relaxing conversation and enjoyment!"

  • "When I made the reservation, I included a note that it was my significant other's birthday. There was zero acknowledgement of this. Three hours after cocktails were served - the same glasses were on the table."

  • "This place was excellent. I had the $50 Tasting menu of scallops (cooked to perfection), nudi with mushrooms (excellent texture an flavor), filet (good temperature and flavor), and tirimasu (decent, but not the best. We sat outside and enjoyed the view and perfect temperature. The staff made this restaurant. They were all so attentive and helpful. Their wine list, though small, has a selection of unusual bottles--well priced and delicious. I will definitely return"

  • "Having read about the restaurant several months ago I decided more or less on the spur of the minute to visit it for our anniversary. We were more than pleasantly surprised with the great staff, the wonderful atmosphere, the superb food and the great experience we had on Tuesday evening. I have gone to a lot of new restaurants that were pleasant but probably a one time experience--this is not one of those. We will definitely revisit the restaurant and I've already told several people of our wonderful experience. It was definitely noteworthy! And considering that it is approximately a 50 minute drive for us to get there you have to know I was impressed."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Cielo with a few friends and it was an excellent experience. The service was great, although we choose a table inside the scenic view was really nice. My wife was very pleased."

  • "We have been to Cielos in the past, but now with the new chef, the food was truly disappointing. The dishes were bland without any flavor. Beautiful view of St. Louis."

  • "We booked using a groupon offer and were very disappointed with the food offered on the deal. We have been to Cielo before and were looking forward to celebrating my birthday with friends. The restaurant ambiance is wonderful but the food was marginal if not worse. Only appetizer offered(a hot-pocket) was not at all tasty; pasta with meat sauce entrée was small, cold and had a speck of meat sauce; veal was tough. Only redeeming feature was the view. It was not a memorable evening."

  • "Cielo offers a great view of the city and beautiful atmosphere. Pools and outdoor seating make this a great find. Inside our food was excellent and service impeccable. Highly recommend!"

  • "This was a fantastic find. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the scenery was amazing. The only problem was parking. I recommend spending a little extra on the valet if you are planning on having dinner here. It's just a little safer. All in all, it was an amazing time! RECOMMENDED!"

  • "My wife and I were looking for a nice place for our anniversary and chose Ceilo based on other reviews, but it turned out far better than expected. We dined outside by the 8th floor pool of the Four Seasons' pool with a spectacular view of the river, Gateway Arch, and cityscape. The potato and leek soup was very smooth and tasty. Our main courses, a filet and the veal chop, were both perfect. Our meals were so good and the staff so friendly that we didn't want to leave, so we ended-up ordering cappuccinos, dessert, and finally some port wine. We watched the sun go down while the city lit up. One of the best meals and nicest evenings ever!"

  • "The food, setting and service were exceptional. We had the $35 tasting menu with 4 courses. There was sufficient choice for each course; the portions were enough to satisfy our appetites; and the presentation was beautiful. We will definitely return."

  • "The service was amazing. We were greeted by name. They remembered that I was bringing guests from out of the country and seated us at an amazing outdoor table. Our server was friendly and informative without being intrusive. None of us wanted alcohol and they did not seem put out by that. However, the only disappointment was the food. A Bruschetta starter was literally three tiny pieces of bruschetta (the kind you buy in a grocery store) with what appeared to be a bit of jam and some proscuitto layed on top. I ordered the Panzanella salad; what I got was chopped tomatoes and cucumber mixed with small, hard garlic croutons (again, the type you get in a bag at the grocery store). Main courses were better. no more room, sorry."

  • "what a pleasant surprise on the top floor of the Four Seasons. Outstanding vews and outdoor dining. Pricing was reasonable for a Four Seasons but the portions were small and my swordfish was very dry. I love the environment, but did not pick a great night for the food."

  • "Lesser known place, as we have lived here for a year and had not heard of it until seeking out a special place that I could take my wife for our anniversary. Fortunately, we had a friend that knew of it and I could not be more pleased with the overall experience. The food was splendid, the view was breathtaking, and the service was absolutely second to none. My wife had mentioned it was our anniversary to the host when we entered and had hoped to get an outdoor table. She accommodated and I cannot tell you how many of the staff came over to well wish us on our special evening. Great experience all around!"

  • "Cielo has a new chef and I am delighted to report the standards are maintained and even exceeded. The food was exceptional, with a range of locally sourced meats as well as interesting fish dishes. Pastas were superb. Appetizers were varied and beautifully presented."

  • "We had a wonderful experience---interesting menu, terrific service and very fine food. This was one of our best dining experiences in St. Louis this year. The new chef has reinvented the menu---we chose the small tasting menu and it was perfect. Beautiful presentation, balanced flavors and wonderful taste. Clever use of herbs. We will be back!"

  • "Everything was Fabulous until the dessert........The waiter said you get a free dessert for your Birthday, so I picked one. He brings me what I ordered and a 2nd one. Turns out the 2nd one was Free, tasted like YUK, and the one I ordered was on our bill. Really? $165 later......"

  • "We've been to brunch at Cielo before, but we took some friends with us this weekend...and once again, we were pleasantly delighted with the service, food and ambience! The poolside DJ was a nice touch, and really created an upscale neo-Vegas atmosphere that we enjoy. Somehow, an order placed for Lobster Eggs Benedict got misinterpreted and we received Lobster Ravioli, but the dish was still quite tasty."

  • "For those prices, there are a million other great places to eat in the STL area.... I took the advise of a snob to go there... Once again the snob was wrong....Great food and service in STL, but not here...."

  • "Splendid service continues to be the hallmark of the dining experience at Cielo. Consistently good fresh innovative food, attention to detail, unmatchable view from outside dining patio, and a fun pool scene during a summer saturday make this well worth the visit!"

  • "At the beginning of the meal, my husband ordered a soda, & I ordered a glass of wine. I got my wine quickly, but after eating our salads, my husband STILL hadn't gotten his soda. He finally got one at the bar. After taking our order, the only other time I saw our server was when he asked me if I wanted a refill. We both had the Panzanella Salad...more bread than salad, barely any dressing, two inedible pieces of tomato core, & three lonely pieces of mozzarella. The "Spaghetti & Meatballs" is best compared to Chef Boyardi according to the rest of my table. I've never had it, so I don't know. I do know that my 3 "meatballs" we're each slightly larger than a marble, pasta was chewy, & the sauce was quite honestly embarrassing to my people."
