Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed everything, with one notable exception. We ordered a martini, and it came about an inch below the rim of the glass. Talk about a short pour. Which would have been somewhat acceptable, but it cost $14!! We got about 5 sips out of it. Even when we complained to our server, she said the bartender said it was the standard 2.5 ounce pour. Well, make it 3.5 ounces, for goodness sake, if you're going to charge that much for one martini, it really doesn't look good. Even the glass of wine we got was pretty short. Take a lesson from many of the other restaurants in town, like Victoria Trattoria, or Joe's, or many others, and don't give guests such a chintzy drink."

  • "We loved the very friendly and accommodating service of the staff. We were fortunate enough to get the table on the second floor overlooking the fountain. Quite romantic as the sun set."

  • "It was my birthday and I was running late to dinner. Me and my party got to Cielito 10 mins before the kitchen closed. Not only did they kindly seat us but informed us that we could dine for as long as we liked. We were serviced so pleasantly and the food, THE FOOD, was absolutely amazing! It's been a while since I've tried a new restaurant and had both excellent food and such gracious customer service. Will I come back? Yes! Will I recommend this restaurant to friends, family and co workers visiting Santa Barbara? In a heart beat."

  • "The dishes are meant to be shared. Guacamole and chips were great. Warm chips. Loved the black berry margaritas."

  • "Cielito was mexican with elegance and flair...without sparing the 'heat' or the 'spice'. Authetic, and amazing! Good selection of wines, beers and spirits as well."

  • "I was impressed with the range of Mexican and other Latin American cuisines offered, and with the waiter's knowledgeable description of them. I would like to return many times to explore more of the menu items. I appreciate that the use of locally produced food is maximized."

  • "The restaurant was very easy to locate, adjacent parking was convenient and reasonable, and the decor and ambiance were exceptional. The service was friendly and prompt, beverages excellent, food even better. We will return, without question."

  • "As always, we enjoyed a great lunch at Cielito's! We invited a neighbor who had never been to join us and she was quite impressed. Love the salsas/chips!"

  • "We keep coming back & getting more of the same great food, great service, & overall a great dining experience. Cielito is one of those places where the bartenders know a lot about the unique tequilas & drinks they offer, the servers know the menu inside & out, & the staff is confident enough to render a recommendation (p.s. they are usually spot on). You wont feel rushed here, but the pace of service is always timely. Friendly, fresh, & uniquely delicious food. If you have the chance to have Nuri (sp?) as your server, you will be assured a great experience. We just give him a rough idea of likes & hunger level & he takes care of the rest! Faves are Ceviche (all of them!), Filete Asado & Enchiladas de Jaiba y Camaron. Enjoy!"

  • "This was awesome. Get the shrimp and lobster enchiladas and their margaritas are bomb. Guacamole is solid, wait staff is even better. Very friendly."

  • "Food was great! A bit pricey for everyday but could be a fun happy hour place. Good spot to have some drinks and a meal before hitting a show at the Arlington."

  • "Food was great. Just way too expensive for Wat you received."

  • "Attractive setting, particularly outdoors in the courtyard. Adventurous, well-presented and mostly tasty food. The trio of ceviches was wonderful, a whole spectrum of tastes. Octopus was delicate and delicious. Sopecitos were bland and dull by comparison. Negatives: OpenTable rez yielded inferior table, even when we requested a switch. Interior was cold, everyone wearing coats. And they HAVE to adjust the service: dishes arriving far too quickly, piling up and getting cold. We sent one back (there was absolutely no room for it on the table anyway) and it was delivered immediately again, by a different waiter. Next time, I won't order ahead."

  • "This restaurant came recommended from a friend, and I'm super glad, because it was a great start to our night. We had dinner reservations and were sat outside on their great patio. It was a beautiful night, a little cold near the end, but not too bad, and the heaters helped a tad bit. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The drinks were ok, but definitely left in the dust by the food. My steak actually came out medium rare like I ordered it, and was mouth watering. My group had a fantastic time and will definitely be back whenever we visit again."

  • "In the past we have greatly enjoyed Cielito. Their tapas are great. Went there for Valentines day and got a special. Sauce for lamb was very good. Otherwise, meal was "ok" but not up to what we normally have come to expect and the servings were very small. Service was good but somewhat slow, even allowing for valentines day. People next to us came ater, got the same dinner and were out before us. Will eat at Cielitos in the future. However, I think we will stick with a selection of tapas."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch at Cielito. The fountain with turtles and koi is entertaining while you wait for your meai. The food is presented in an appealing manner and everything was fresh and delicious. Will dine there again!"

  • "Was our first time there and last, service was horrible by far; I don't know if it was bc we were a young couple but we were ignored through out our dinner, very disappointing because the restaurant is so gorgeous."

  • "While the ceviches and margaritas are still very good, Our last couple entree choices were bland and the tortillas and suaces lacked flavor."

  • "Cielito is perfect for date night, drinks with friends, a family meal, or whatever other occasion you find yourself out for a dinner. The menu allows the diner to try many different items and the seafood bar is amazing. I'm always excited to see what kind of gems will be served to me as each dish looks like a small work of art."

  • "The food was incredible-- fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The margaritas are the best I've had in Santa Barbara, and the raw bar is top notch. The ambiance is sophisticated and vibrant at the same time-- not easy to do, but they pull it off beautifully here. Will return for sure!"

  • "As usual the ceviche does not diss appoint and the poke style reviles some of the finast available in Hawaii!"

  • "I was very impressed with the restaurant. The decor was beautiful and although it was large and busy, it was not overly noisy. The food was delicious and creative. We were very happy with all of our entree's. I had the mushroom Huarache de Hongos which was a vegetarian tapas. It was a delicious mix of flavors done perfectly. I don't normally order something vegetarian, but it caught my eye and was absolutely fulfilling. Our two other entree's were the salmon and fish special which were both delicious and elegantly served. It was a great dining experience and we will return for sure!"

  • "El Cielito was one of the restaurants my husband and I went to on our honeymoon and I am so glad we did! The service was excellent, food was delicious, and we had a small romantic table just for the two of us. I'd definitely recommend this local gem if you're in Santa Barbara and want to go out for a fancy dinner."

  • "We have been to Cielito many times and always like it but this dinner was exceptional. We had a group of 6 and opted to have the chef just send out whatever he wanted for us all to share. So much fun and absolutely delicious. He included many vegetarian options as 1 of the 6 was a vegetarian. We sat upstairs at the window looking down on the courtyard. The service was exceptional as was the dessert (shared as well). Great job Cielito."

  • "The food was excellent. This is the second time we have eaten here and will absolutely be back. We were asked if we wanted inside or outside dining. It was a beautiful evening so we chose outside. We were seated in a tented area, not exactly outside. That was our only complaint."

  • "We really enjoyed the food and special drinks and the service was very nice!"

  • "The restaurant, atmosphere everything was great. The only issue was that, even though we had a reservation, we had to wait over 30 minutes for our table. The hostess was very apologetic, and they eventually comped us our chips, salsa, and guacamole, but it was still a long wait. Besides that, the food was amazing, and we will definitely be back."

  • "We have not had a bad meal at Cielito. Love the sharing concept and the margaritas are delicious! Ask for spicy salsa and mix it in with the salsa that comes with the chips and guacamole. It is perfect! We will continue to eat here on a regular basis and we always treat our out of town guests to a dinner at Cielito."

  • "Dinner in a private area upstairs overlooking the walkways outside all decorated in the Christmas spirit and overlooking the dining area below was our Christmas gift to our very close friends. It was a total success and everyone had just a great time. The food was superb and the service matched! Thank you! Paul Cook"

  • "The ahi ceviche was killer. As was the grilled octopus. As were the classic margaritas. For entrees shared a special paella-like dish which to my tastes was a little bland, and the salmon was solid without being special. But the starters and drinks began things with a bang and Cielito held onto a 4-starrer. Attentive, friendly service helped out a lot, too."

  • "Fresh and unusual touch on Mexican. Our group thoroughly enjoyed their food!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went to dinner to Cielito on a Tuesday night. The place had some open spots which is always nice incase you don't have a reservation. We sat inside and upstairs with only two tables near us which was nice because it wasn't too loud. Our server was outstanding. He explained every single ingredient and made recommendations to both of us. The pork belly quesadilla was delicious but maybe just a tad bit too greasy. The filet mignon steak was also tasty but maybe a tad bit small at 6 oz. I understand Cielito is a tapas restaurant so you are supposed to go in there knowing the fact you will get 2-3 plates of food per person. But even for Santa Barbara it's just a bit pricey for my taste."

  • "The food was superb. Unique combinations of textures, ingredients and spices blended perfectly into each dish and presented like fine art on a plate. Truly a gastronomical delight in each bite. Our only "negative" was the hostess who seated us. We had a reservation for the 2 of us. The restaurant was about 80% full and the hostess was going to seat us in the middle between two tables about 2 feet apart with lively people at each table. We asked if we could be seated upstairs, where we ended up and it was most delightful."
