  • "We reserved a time using OpenTable and had to take a time much earlier than we would have preferred. They called to confirm and we asked if we could change to a later time and were told that there were no available times but that they would try to accomodate us when we walked in. We walk in and not only were there open tables in the main dining room, there was an entire side room being unused. Sounds like a management/staffing issue. The food was okay. Service was also just okay. Our table, in adddion to the adjoining table, wobbled and the wood was unfinished so the drinks left water marks...not appealing. I don't no that we'll rush back or recommend to friends."

The place was describe as excellent so expectation were relatively high but reality is really bad ... The service was good. the place is quite noisy."

  • "Make this one of your destination Italian casual restaurants! From their killer manhattans on their sidewalk living room, to our start of addictive pork crackling's to Nonna's meatballs in a beautiful fresh tomato sauce with bits of short rib, the food here is a winner. Expertly prepared salmon, whole wheat chittara, and mushroom risotto were heartily devoured before ending with a clever dessert of mini doughnuts and a reverse affogato (we'll let you figure that one out). A well rounded affordable wine list made for a lovely summer evening all the way around. Complimentary limoncello was a nice way for them to say thank you too!"

  • "Would be great location for outdoor dining. Creative menu and interesting choices and service at every level outstanding. Nice décor. Only downside was the noise level inside the restaurant, which unfortunately is not unusual for many restaurants in the Loop. But would definitely encourage you to try. And if the weather cooperates, enjoy the large outdoor patio."

  • "We really enjoyed dining alfresco and sharing several small plates. The hangar steak carpaccio was delicious! The risotto with mushrooms was a little bland, but my husband enjoyed the duck trio which was quite a large dish. I loved their homemade blood orange sorbet. They serve complimentary Homemade Limoncello after the meal which is a really nice touch!"

  • "This past week a friend and I had lunch on the patio at Cicchetti. I live in the neighborhood and have been meaning to try it. The food was pretty good, but not as good as I expected (though to be fair, we only had two dishes). We really enjoyed the roasted mushroom pizza, but I found the appetizer meatballs to be extremely salty and not very flavorful, though tender. What really bothered me was the service. We both downed our Diet Cokes within the first few minutes of receiving them (hello - caffeine!), and were never offered refills. The server was pretty awkward, too, so maybe she was new and didn't know what she was doing. Either way I already have plans to go there for dinner in a couple of weeks, so hopefully this was just a fluke."

  • "Not classical Italian food from any particular region. Some really interesting small dishes as well as rethinking of the standards. However, the place was a bit noisy in that a standard table of six had difficulty hearing each other. Errors in the kitchen resulted in one guest not getting his food with the others but there was a complimentary dessert as compensation. Planning a definite return."

  • "We were expecting a little more formal of a restaurant but the atmosphere and delightful decor wowed us. Rustic and contemporary sums it up for the inside. The food was wonderful! Charred baby carrots with a lemon purée and marscapone was a wonderful starter. I had the duck trio and wanted more of it even though the portion was spot on. The flavors are exciting and delicious."

  • "I love small plates and I think that it is great to try and share lots of things; however, we walked away (after a bottle of wine and one round of drinks on top of 5 courses) with a bill of $650 with tip. The food was good, not life altering, and while the service was incredible, it just didn't push me over the top with ever wanting to go back...even if someone else picks up the tab."

  • "I was really looking forward to Cicchetti after a friend recommended it and it started popping up on "best new restaurant" lists. I took an out-of-town business colleague there and was embarrassed. At lunchtime, portions can be small (they were) but prices should be lower accordingly (they weren't). I had the much-touted home-cured sardines and you could barely find them on the plate. Risotto was pale and pasty. Pizzas were just OK. There is promise here, the chef has talent, but the value for the quality and quantity received just isn't there. Decor looks like a waiting room at Northwestern Hospital (they are a tenant in the building)."

  • "Much anticipated dining at this Chicago magazine best new restaurant list pick. The setting was lovely, service was very good, but the food itself? Uneven at best. Oversalted (especially the pizza's and chicken) strange combinations -- and what's all the fuss about the pork rinds and reverse affogatto? (Gelato was wonderful but the doughnuts were tough -- and bland.) We're sophisticated diners and wanted to like this place. Maybe it was an off night? But we wouldn't return."

  • "Actually the small plates we tried were pretty big. Bustling restaurant with an open kitchen, recycled barn beams and rustic chic feel. Very professional staff for a restaurant only six months old or any restaurant for that matter. The baby squid in squid ink sauce over polenta and the short rib ravioli were divine. The trio of sorbetti for dessert were a intense!"

  • "while i love italian food, i truly love polenta. even though it is a "simple" food it can be made quite special and I felt the version here with the baby squid and black ink was really creative and tasted of so many great flavors together including the shaved scallion and cilantro on top. each of our dishes was creative and with a lovely presentation. Our server Mike knew every detail of the dishes, was friendly, personable and attentive, and helped us make wonderful selections. Additionally the reclaimed wood and large glass window/dividers make for a comfortable rustic modern environment."

  • "The food is extraordinary and very creative. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. We had six for dinner, and shared every starter and entree. The dishes are unusual (sardines, duck liver, pork belly), and traditional (risotto, carpaccio). The wine list was adequate and could be stretched to match the cuisine. All in all, a very strong recommendation for Cicchetti."

  • "great space, not truly Italian, reasonable wine list. overall price is reasonable quality of the food is good, but the portion sizes are very variable and questionably appropriate. the sardines were great, had to order two orders to get enough to taste it the risotto with morels were nice, but where were the morels the special ravioli, eh... had to have an early reservation, but plenty of open tables even when we left I was called twice to make sure I was coming, and asked repeatedly if it still was going to be four people on a positive note, they did allow corkage on a positive note, they allowed us to be seated, while waiting a few minutes for our friends to arrive, yes there were four of us, as reserved above average, but not by much"

  • "This was my second time at Cicchetti, and I can't wait to go back for more! From the amazing Ciabatta (from 150 year old yeast starter!) to a special birthday sundae dessert for my guest who was born in Northern Italy, we practically inhaled every bit of food on our plates. The inky charred calamari on ethereally creamy light polenta is authentic Venice; short rib ravioli are covered with the freshest tomato sauce; and, the freshly made Strozzapreti pasta topped with duck offal sugo, pickled ramps and basil are plate-licking amazing (don't shy away from this one!) Décor is elegant and spacious -- only draw-back is lack of sound proofing. It does get noisy...so eat outside while you can! Service is terrific, nicely paced and unrushed."

  • "Three of us ate dinner there two nights ago and we were impressed with everything from drinks to appetizers to dinners to dessert! Dishes were executed flawlessly, burst with flavor and beautifully presented. We were greeted with a warm and friendly greeting by the hostess and our waitress was lovely: professional yet friendly and caring - always had a smile. Support staff were terrific too. I highly recommend! (make sure you try their pizzas and pastas!)"

  • "The service was great, the drinks and apps were amazing too but the entrees - Braised Short Rib Ravioli & the Aged Trio of Duck: Breast, Sausage and Confit were so salty we could barely eat them, especially the Ravioli. The waiter was great, recognizing something was off right away and was generous enough to take the Ravioli off the bill but the damage was done. Its really to bad because Cicchetti was on my list of restaurants to try for awhile and had heard such great things about it. Unfortunately it will be some time before I head back to Cicchetti again."

  • "We went to Cicchetti to celebrate a birthday. Everything we ordered was very good. One of our party has food allergies, and the waiter was very attentive to these special needs making sure his dishes were allergy free. The appetizers were very good. We had the grilled baby octopus and the Prosciutto. Both were very tasty. Entrees we ordered were the Trio of duck, Sea food stew, and braised beef ravioli - all were delicious. The desserts were also great. The warn donuts were the best, with the dark chocolate cannoli a close second. The wine list was very nice. Good selections and they didn't break the bank. We will return."

Every dish ordered was very well prepared, the ingredients are well matched without throwing in the kitchen sink. I have enjoyed my dining experiences here. Service is fine, just like any other American establishment. Gone are the days of servers who are seen and not heard until you need something. All American service personnel interrupts your conversations at will. If only they can all get trained by Ritz Carlton!"

  • "Voted one of the best new restaurants in Chicago? Old friend in town from Europe this past Thursday for dinner. We both liked the dining room and server started off well, as did appetizer and salad, then the wheels came off the wagon. Server went missing except to come by and apologize for the wait between courses; 45 minutes between salad and entree, only to receive luke warm and gluey, tasteless risotto as well as over salted less than hot seafood stew; an extremely disappointing meal. How did this place make the best new restaurants list?"
