A word from Cicada
Cicada is a masterful combination of art deco style and contemporary cuisine. The food is the star and the restaurant is the cinema. From the 30-foot gold leaf ceiling to the plush custom-designed bar and lounge, Cicada has combined 1920s Art Deco with contemporary design elements to create an extraordinary atmosphere. The European style is further complemented by a sophisticated Northern Italian and California fusion menu. 15,000 square feet--ideal for weddings, special events, and private parties.

On special nights travel back in time to Maxwell DeMille's Cicada Club, a vintage 1940's style nightclub featuring fine dining, live music and dancing (cover charge applies).

Diner Reviews
  • "There aren't enough downtown restaurants open post-Sunday theater matinee dinner. The prix fixe Sunday here is pretty good. There was entertainment later on the evening we dined. The beautiful room in the 1928 Oviatt Building is is in need of TLC."

  • "The dinner was great, the service was great . . . but their salads were lacking."

  • "Very good restaurant, unfortunately it was almost empty. I think they need more advertising."

  • "The interior was beautiful. The band played great music. I had the chance to eat delicious food and listen to live music with the person I love on Valentines day. I wouldn't have it any other way. The night was perfect. I had a great experience."

  • "The food is excellent and so is the service. If you like a very big restaurant where you converse easily and have your order taken quickly enabling you to make the 'curtain'...this is the place for you."

  • "Recently was here for a Valentine's dinner with the lady. Very romantic. Its kind of like a Great Gatsby theme. I would've been great if they could have had live music for that weekend. It would've been an even better experience for a Valentines day weekend. Overall, it was great and would definitely come back."

  • "I chose Cicada on Open Table based on their menu, table availability (for 5), write up on Open Table and proximity to my work location in downtown in LA. When we arrived we discovered they were serving only a prix fixe Valentine's menu. We had limited time and after surveying other options we decided to stay put and order from the abbreviated menu. The food was decent, the service decent, but nothing resembling the pricepoint or the write up on Open Table. It seemed like a private club from another dimension. It was a bizarre experience overall."

  • "I ordered Lobster Ravioli and Lava Cake for dessert, it was amazing, couldn't get any better."

  • "This little place was the perfect spot to celebrate Valentine's Day. The service was excellent and the food was great. Although it was a little pricey, it was worth every penny."

  • "Ok so I took my wife for Valentines and although it is great location it is crazy expensive for the kind of food and service you get"

  • "Came in on a Monday night during Restaurant Week, and I appreciate the fact that Cicada isn't traditionally open on Mondays, but the food was terrible...and it was off their traditional menu, not the Restaurant Week menu. I ordered the fish grill and all three pices of fish were dry and tasteless; the menu was not professional looking, and the food was not consistent with the recent yelp ratings. The inside of Cicada was run-down, and not the classic old L.A. interior that I was expecting. Everything about the place was dingy. They were out of the first wine we ordered and out of the dover sole. Bottom line: the place had the feel of financial duress and seemed about ready to go out of business."

  • "I've always wanted to see the inside of this restaurant and DineLA afforded us the opportunity. The food was good -- not cutting edge, hot-spot choices, but it was fine. I enjoyed the experience very much. Thank you."

  • "My husband and I will definitely go back! Awesome place!"

  • "food was great, decor is unique, but service could have used some work even with a trainee."

  • "Love the art deco decor.... Gatsby eat your heart out! This was my second time here, the food has better then before. The only issue I have is the seating. I would have liked to of stayed longer but seating was very uncomfortable for everyone at the table."

  • "Excellent service and staff. Food was excellent and had a romantic night with my partner"

  • "The Cicada is one of those great old LA clubs from the Golden Age of Hollywood, still proudly running, serving really good food and showcasing 30s and 40s music acts...this is a real hot spot for the crowd that loves to jitterbug. It's LOUD but a lot of fun...surprisingly good food for the kind of venue ...love the idea of a dress code..takes us back to a more gentile age when life was all about having fun."

  • "While the food was great the service was terrible. We had a group of eight and the restaurant was not busy at all. We were looking at the restaurant for a buyout but after our experience we will not be doing that. It is too bad because the food was so good. Very disappointing evening."

  • "Live music, dancing and good food. A great night in this partial theme park restuarant. We'll dress up next time....really enjoyed watching Mr and Mrs Smith (the film) the next day and reliving the restaurant backdrop. Marvellous."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised with the live 30's and 40's music, the interaction of the crowd, and the overall experience for my wife's birthday. We are never disappointed with this venue. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and the night was very enjoyable."

  • "Great food and not skimpy for DineLA. It was great because it has always been a favorite of mine. Very unique takes on favorites....i.e. angel pasta wrapped shrimp!!!! Crispy, savory and succulent.... Perfectly cooked creme brulee, lobster linguini....the list goes on and on... Pricey but great for special occasions."

  • "A downtown Los Angeles gem. Music for dancing provided by a live band. Food items in our party varied from good to excellent giving a "very good" overall rating. Service was "Five Star!""
