Diner Reviews
  • "CIBO is a new addition to the East Exchange area. It is in the revamped harbourmaster building located right on the banks of the Red River. It provides great views of the river and parts of downtown Winnipeg. We have been to the restaurant a few times now and have always been more than satisfied with our meals. Although not a large menu, there are plenty of options. On the last occasion two of us had the burger special, one the regular burger and one the carbonara pasta. All were excellent and the portions were more than adequate. Our server was very pleasant and attentive without being disruptive to our evening. When there are large groups in the restaurant, it can get a little noisy. This restaurant is truly worth a visit."

  • "Good service and decent enough food. We found the menu somewhat limited, particularly for vegetarians. Would be nice to see a few more entree style dishes. Hopefully it will improve with time. One thing we would like to see change is the menu itself, handing out wrinkled and stained menus isn't a great first impression to make. "

  • "I loved the decor, very modern. We had a seat by the window and had a beautiful view. My Spanish chicken was excellent and my husband's steak sandwich was delicious."

  • "We have tried on 2 occasions to go to the Cibo Waterfront Cafe with no luck. Finally as a surprise prior to attending a Tuesday nite concert we were able to coordinate a date with reservations. We were seated quickly and the place was abuzz. I checked out other diners plates along the way to our seat uptop and was quite happy at the portion size. Our food was great. The Proscuto and Arugala Pizza and Caesar Salad was enough to satisfy my husband and myself. Ther servers were a bit slow but friendly. I/we will be going back in the summer (if it ever comes) to enjoy the view from outside."

  • "I loved the uniqueness of the converted old building, the inside of it was very nicely done. I'm very excited to experience the patio that will be opening in the summer, I think it'll be such a great spot. Food was excellent, everything we ordered was enjoyable and hot upon arrival. Our server was also extremely knowledgeable and very personable. I will be back for sure."

  • "Outstanding location overhanging the river. They've done a great renovation of this old pump house. Food was delicious and the ambience was vibrant. Only disappointment was being told we had 2 hours for our visit and that the table was booked after that . I always find this annoying. We had to skip desert and gulp our coffee to get out by 9."

  • "The ambience, location and restoration of the building was fantastic. I was also impressed with the furniture. I had a pizza for dinner and was very disappointed. The pizza was lacking in topping and cheese. I was looking around while other guests were receiving their dinners and they seemed to look fine. The pizzas need major improvement although the crust was good. The location in the summer months will be amazing! I know the restaurant is new and still getting it's bearings but I would take some of the comments seriously."

  • "Fantastic transformation of this historic industrial space takes advantage of its prime location overlooking the river. Seriously tasty Italian dishes delivered quickly with a smile. Menu consists of unpretentious but sophisticated Italian classics like carbonara, and bigness with house made pasta, ethereally thin crusted pizzas and bruschetta. Soups, sandwiches, salads and steak and burger round out the menu making it ideal for any diner's taste and lunch or dinner. Generous portions and a well priced menu make this upscale experience affordable and repeatable."

  • "This is a great new restaurant in the downtown area."

  • "The location by the river was very nice and unique setting. We had pork sandwich and carbonara - they were very good. We had fritter (home made donuts) for dessert - they were great. Nicely renovated setting highlighting Winnipeg history (great for visitors too) and friendly servers. We'd like to come back to try other menu items. Summer late morning brunch on the patio would be something we'd like to try with a group of friends. It would be nice to collaborate with Mere hotel for package deal since 2 businesses are located side be side."

  • "This was our first visit to the restaurant and we were impressed with the appearance. Our food was tasty enough but the pizza could have had more basil, the chicken in the chicken sandwich was dry and the soup was warm but not really hot. The burger was fabulous (but overpriced). We were informed of all the 'side' options for our sandwich and burger and only upon making our choice were we informed that there was a nominal additional charge. Our first cup was hot but we had to flag down a waitress to get a refill and there wasn't enough coffee in the carafe for all of us. She returned with another carafe but the coffee was barely at room temperature. Staff was friendly just not very attentive."

  • "This location is unique and very comfy. Feels upscale without big prices and snobbery. Try the Caesar salad it is not the expected traditional Caesar but it is great!!!"

  • "During Sunday brunch, (a table of 6 adults) we were informed that there were no cured meats available. That meant close to half the menu was unavailable. Our server tried to accommodate us, but we understood he was just the messenger of bad news. He said we could 'substitute' other meats, but the only other options were chicken and lamb. I ordered eggs benedict with lamb substituted and I got charged an extra $1.50 for the lamb!! But the worst part was this was all happening because the meat slicer was broken!! What on earth did we do before meat slicers were invented? And no one thought to go to a store to get some temporary supplies? Really? Very poor experience."

  • "We were excited to go out for Brunch, but were very disappointed. Our server was snappy, slow and rude to the people next us. The food was luke warm to cold. Coffee took forever to be served. By 10:30 am they had run out of multi-grain bread and one of the feature meats that came with a breakfast option."

  • "I love the location of this restaurant, in the summer this place would be a very romantic scenic restaurant. The menu is very limited but the brushetta was amazing!!"

  • "I was excited to finally try this new restaurant in town. The location is wonderful & the restoration of the old riverside water house has been done with fabulous taste. The tall ceilings, original brick & open concept venue create a visual atmosphere worth checking out when considering the list of fresh Winnipeg dining venues. I usually love energetic, vibrant restaurants, however the sound echos sharply through the room & at times was fairly distracting. The food was good, although the cafe style menu is limited for dinner. I'd definitely recommend this spot for a night with friends; not the best choice for a romantic dinner for two."

  • "When our food arrived and was so delicious, we could have been thrilled, but it was hard after waiting 50 moniutes for appetizers. Thank goodness mail course came at the same time. The restaurant could have made the experience of an unintended 2 hour lunch finw by 1) acknowledging us sitting there for so long; 2) apologizing and asking if they could do anything for us while we waited, and 3) generally showing us they cared about us and the reality of the situtaion. Ignoring the guests and treating them instead like something to be ignored was not helpful. When the food arrived, it was great, so I will try again, but come one guys and gals - you are in the HOSPITALILTY industry. Show some hospitality!"

  • "The menu is not very extensive but everything on it is really good. We've gone back many times and have always been pleased. Great ambience, great service, food is always good. Can't wait for the ice to melt - view from the windows will be great!"

  • "Our maiden voyage was so warm and comfortable I needed to return. The atmosphere is as good as any and the personable staff need credit. Our waiter, Andrew was always available and on top of everything, and never intrusive. I've tried a pasta dish and a burger on feature. The fries are excellent and unique, and everyone must try the "Lions Winter Ale" beer on tap. I have no inhibition about taking any friend or family here."

  • "Loved the atmosphere and view of the river. Can't wait to try it in the summer. I had the Cibo pizza And it was very good but I was hoping it would be a little spicier. My friend had a Panino sandwich and said it was very good but found he fries a little greasy. Service was great and it wasn't very busy so the noise level was good. Will definitely be back."

  • "I had the pizza and it was absolutely delicious, nice thin crust and very tasty. My friends also enjoyed their meals except for the soup which although was tasty it was more of a broth than a soup. I will go back."

  • "We had a resevation for 1915, arrived at about 1905. There were several empty tables. The person who greeted us said your table is still occupied. We waited till that party paid their bill and the table was cleared. Probably 15 minutes. Walk-ins were seated before us! There was nothing special about our table , so no reason to be made to wait. The wine list was very disappointing. The food was mediocre. We ordered olives and cheese as an appetizer and our entree was served before we had finished our appie! What else can I say ? I won't return"

  • "The food was very good and the price was reasonable. Great place to go before or after the theater, ballet or symphony . Location ideal and scenic. Glad to see a great use was made of the old heritage building in a beautiful area. Menu is different mix of items than a traditional restaurant. We appreciated and enjoyed that mix. Will definitely return"

  • "The menu i found was limited as was the wine selection by the glass. I would like to see healthier food choices on the menu....low fat and calorie choices."

  • "I believe that the idea of French fries have been taken to a level that I can't understand. I get that everyone is concerned with presentation and plating etc, but come on leave the noble potato alone. I had gone to CIBO (which is a visually well represented place) for lunch with a friend. The service was good and the menu was clear and easy to follow, but when my burger came out they were accompanied by these tasteless thin lifeless excuse for fries. I didn't like that they were hard, and did nothing for the plate or my burger experience. Get some New York cut fries and call it a day."

  • "Stopped here for a quick bite on the way to the theatre. Service was excellent. I had a tasty Flat Iron Steak salad and my guest had one of the specials, a Beef Bourginon Poutine that was excellent. Didn't sample any of the wines. Rest of menu looked interesting including the pizzas which I will have to go back and try. Looks like it would also be a good place for breakfast/brunch as well."

  • "After making our reservation and being excited to try out a new place, we were disappointed that the restaurant called at the last minute to let us know they were closing for the evening due to a power outage! Total bummer even if its not their fault. Hard to believe a restaurant serving a hotel doesn't have an emergency back-up generator!? Left a bad taste in our mouth..literally."

  • "Enjoyed our first time. Great space. Must be start up woes that led to no Caesar salad and no diet drinks at 7:00 p.m. On a Saturday night! Soup not great. Pizzas and burger were good. We'll come back."

  • "We went to Cibo restaurant on a whim. We were sure glad we did. The service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome. The bruschetta was something I had never experienced. There was great variety and tastes were simply delicious. our entrees were well prepared and presented. We will definitely come back!"

  • "This restaurant is in a great location, the atmosphere is great and the views out the windows are fabulous. The menu is very limited and not a lot of options for vegetarians. Wine list is also very limited, but overall thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Of note, this restaurant double/triple books the tables so if you have an earlier reservation be prepared to be asked to leave in about two hours. We were not expecting this and was a bit of a shock, we did not get time to have dessert before having to leave."

  • "I had a panino and my partner had THE burger. Both of our meals were delicious. Fries were the thinnest I've ever seen but still tasty. Our server Shayna(?) was very friendly and bubbly but didn't seem to have her act completely together. She forgot to remove extra sets of cutlery and didn't take our menus away until right before our meals arrived. Her service was impeccable, none the less. Our experience at cibo's was great aside from the noise level. The music was blaring so loud that I couldn't hear my partner from across the table. Will likely return for more casual dining."

  • "There were 5 of us for a before theatre dinner experience. We loved the decor. Cozy. Loved the old brick and the relics that were retained. It will be gorgeous in the summer. We hoped there would be a patio in the summer. We were not able to locate parking. We shared the bruschetta, 3 kinds. They were all terrific but our favourite was the artichoke one. Three of our party had the special pizza, salmon and shrimp with pesto. They all enjoyed it. I had a margherita pizza that was tasty but no tomatoes which the menu had mentioned. The chef stopped by for our comments. The service was good and we appreciated that she was willing to divide our shared appetizer on separate checks. Overall a good experience."

  • "This was my first time at Cibo and I was pleasantly surprised by my dining experience. For an appetizer, we ordered the bruschetta - there were many to chose from, we picked the mushroom&goatcheese, grilled veggies&trappist cheese and bluecheese&pear. They were all very good. The pear& prosciutto pizza was delicious. My wife had the pasta special which she really enjoyed. For desert, we tried the fritters, which was the perfect end to a great meal. Service was great and we will definitely be back!"
