Diner Reviews
  • "We came in on Fri night & there were several tables avail. We had a reso but were told we needed to wait. We inquired why as they were SEVERAL tables open. This went back & forth for sometime. The waitress came back to us w/ a new excuse everytime. Even told us that we had to reserve certain tables! The reviews about getting a table, making resos proved to be true, an unorganized mess. We were about to leave as we'd get better service, less hassle across the street at any one of the restaurants. Suddenly a new table became avail. What is the point of making reso only to be hassled, have to wait & be told that we were to speciifcally request certain tables."

  • "Slow service, took a long time to get a server then to get our drinks. The drinks were very good when they did arrive. The food was OK. I will try again but order something different next time. Enjoyed the table and the view though."

  • "The view and the building are lovely. There's an opportunity here to bring the the menu and the food up to match the space."

  • "First impressions are great, the ambiance is really awesome and the whole restaurant has a great feel. However, this restaurant was recommended to me by a foodie friend so I was also expecting the food to deliver. Overall, the menu was disappointingly boring and the food was unimpressive. If you're looking for a restaurant that isn't a chain but has similar food and ok prices, this place works. I think the restaurant has potential to become a gem, but needs more creativity and a real chef's imput. I would love to recommend this place, but, as is, I cannot"

  • "Love the rustic look they maintained from the old pump house. Our server was attentive and fun. The lamb meatballs were amazing, and actually based on quantity could almost me a main course. The star of the night was the arancini appetizer. Very light and creamy with a beautiful crispy coating. Perfect! The meals were all great. Salmon cooked to perfection, moist with scrumptious crispy skin. The ribeyes were cooked perfectly. Only one negative is the shrimp that came with their version of "surf and turf". 3 tiny and bland shrimp. For $35 a plate that was not good value."

  • "Went for an anniversary and was disappointed. Same dinner menu as lunch menu. Appetizers were excellent, wine selection was mediocre at best, entrees were less than satisfying. The location was very nice and the atmosphere was energetic but polite. I would suggest this restaurant as a place to start the evening; appetizers and a glass of wine before moving on to another restaurant for dinner."

  • "We've been walking past this place on noon walks for years so once Cibo opened we decided we wanted to check it out. It took a while to find an evening that worked for all of us but finally Friday July 11 was chosen. There were four of us, all women, so we were hoping for something light but tasty. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 thin crust pizzas. The appetizers were the spicy lamb meatballs and the evening special, pickerel frittos. Both were very good and the cast iron frying pans they were served in kept everything warm. The pizzas we chose were the Margherita and the Pear and Prosciutto. Both were good but the Pear and Prosciutto was outstanding. The combination of flavours worked really well. We finished with Chocolate 5 Ways!"

  • "I really enjoyed the View and its in a great old re purposed building on the Red River. Everyone else liked their meals more than me, I had the Salmon Salad and while it was good it was very small portion."

  • "A wonderful location and a few really great items on the menu. However the service is slow... But friendly. They need to learn how to do a steak."

  • "Service was a bit slow...wrong order....espresso and ice-cream was just that...small bit of ice-cream left buy the time we got it...so more like cream...would give it some time before it returned"

  • "I went to Cibo to celebrate my birthday with friends. The atmosphere was excellent, the food was delicious, but I found our service to be sub-par for a restaurant boasting $20 burgers. Our waitress was too slow refilling our drink orders (the restaurant was not even half full), our appetizer came less than 10 minutes before our food and when my boyfriend told her it was my birthday she snottily told him "we don't do anything for birthdays". She didn't even offer up a desert menu or ask him if we wanted to pay for desert afterwards. So disappointing.. I would not book reservations at Cibo again. I've had much better service at other restaurants in that price point. I would, however, go for lunch if someone else invited me."

  • "Had a wonderful time wining and dining at Cibo with some great girlfriends. We had the poutine which was flavourful and hearty but the fries were a bit soggy for some. The pizza was delicious, with a very tasty crust. I loved the cool vibe."

  • "Tried Cibo for lunch and it was great - food, service, ambience, view. We were able to sit for nearly 3 hours and weren't rushed or pushed out. Will definitely try for dinner soon."

  • " We all have a delicious food and great time. The menu was inspiring for children and adult as well. We'll be back soon for sure."

  • "The food was mediocre at best. The pasta carbonara was bland and liquid, and was a very small portion. The minestrone soup tasted and looked as if it came from a can. The toasted buttered (?) bread sticks were tasteless. The other dinners for our group were ok, but not good enough to cause us to return."

  • "I had driven by this pretty building often and finally went there for dinner. It is beautiful inside and out, although quite noisy! We had very attentive service. The menu is short, but everyone in our group found something to order and enjoyed what they received. The well dressed poutine looked like something I would like to try in the future and my friend said it was very good!"

  • "The food and wine were good. The service was disappointing. We waited 25 minutes from when we were seated, to when we were acknowledged and offered drinks. Serving staff could not answer simple questions about the menu. The food was good, and served in a timely manner. It's a shame the patio is unlicensed."

  • "We had a table of 5 ladies. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was very good. The drink specials were different and enjoyed by all! It was a first visit for 4 of us and we will be back. Wonderful location for a pre or post dinner/dessert/coffee after the theatre. Is well within walking distnace of all exchange theatres."

  • "If you go with expectations of high end dining you'll be disappointed. The menu and the service set the dial only to an average dining experience. My two main issues are the lack luster wine list, which is short and under stocked, and the service, although friendly enough, not very knowledgeable about the menu ingredients. On several occasions the kitchen failed in execution of what seemed a no brainer and on another occasion the food was done well and was quite enjoyable. It seems a shame in such a fantastic space but none the less it was a pleasant enough experience."

  • "I think the restaurant needs to decide what it wants to be especially for Dinner. I will certainly try it again especially in the summer to sit outside."

  • "enjoyed lunch in this lovely space, overlooking the river. Food was excellent, (we had salads, very filling) so too was the coffee. Service was attentive, but slow, which was okay for us but I might have been concerned if I had to return to work. Nice place to go for a special and leisurely lunch."

  • "I ordered the burger special. When it arrived it was greatly overdone with a hard exterior crust that was difficult to cut through with a dinner knife. I sent it back (the first time I have ever done that). The second try was not much better - dry and crusty. I gave up at that point. They did not charge me for my meal which I appreciate. The friends I was with enjoyed their meals so the burger was the problem. I would go back but would not order the burger."

  • "It took about 10 minutes for the hostesses to figure out where to put two of us, even though the restaurant was half full. The staff (there were approximately 7 servers including the bar staff for about 30 patrons) seemed far more interested in visiting among themselves at the front then serving costumers. It was early and the crowd sedate, but the noise level was extreme and made conversation difficult. The food was okay, but my server had to be reminded of what I had ordered. I was there with a business associate who was there for the first time and I felt badly enough about suggesting it, that I paid rather then our usual 50/50 split. I won't be back anytime soon!"

  • "Eggs Benny served stone cold, great waiter apologized, re-served order but temperature wasn't much better. Waiter was outstanding, adjusted our bill re cold food but much room for improvement in service. We personally witnessed staff ignoring our chilling breakfast while they sat on their iPhones. A little "service" supporting the single, excellent waiter would,t hurt."

  • "Lunch menu is minimal but food is amazing. We had the soup of the day, tomato/zucchini, poutine bourginoin, Spanish chicken panino and pear/prosciutto pizza. Everything was so flavourful. Servers were attentive and knowledgeable of the menu items. Will be back, perhaps for dinner."

  • "Enjoyed our dining experience at Cibo! This was our first visit to the restaurant and we ordered the pepper crusted steak, was cooked perfectly rare and delish! The decor was really cool and the restaurant was "alive" with people. Defintely a great place to go if you plan to head out for a group dinner. Alos enjoyed seeing J Lohr on the wine list, one of our favourite go to's. Thank you for a great night. "

  • "The food was delicious. We ordered three types of bruschetta, the tomato, mozzarella, basil one being the best. We also ordered arancini and the Cibo pizza. These were also tasty. A few things we noticed this time however, were that the bathrooms were extremely dirty (even smelly) and the staff seemed to be visiting a lot in the bar area. I think the kitchen area is so small, that the staff have no place to linger while not serving. Unfortunately, this makes the staff look like they are just hanging out. As the view to the kitchen is very open, we also noticed how messy and dirty it appeared. Not sure we would head back in a hurry anymore. If you're going to have an open kitchen, it should NOT be that messy visibly is what we felt."

  • "The food was fantastic! I had the burger special and even something as simple as a burger seemed fancy to me, as well as the Aracini appetizer was incredible! The only thing I noticed was that while our waitor was working very hard making drinks and serving his tables there were many staff members standing around not assisting with the service. "

  • "great views of the river ground this dining experience. it is a casual upscale environment with affordable prices. my experience was limited to the breakfast menu, which provided a wonderful eggs benedict with a mediteranian styled ham. I would definitely recommend this place. "

  • "While staying at Mere Hotel, our group dined at Cibo three times for breakfast and once for lunch. The breakfasts were great- fresh food, well prepared. Everyone enjoyed lunch as well. Loved sitting up top with river view. Servers attentive, food came quickly. If we lived in Winnipeg, we would definitely be back soon. However, though our travels don't often take us to Winnipeg, when they do we will be back to Cibo (and to Mere Hotel)!"

  • "First time to Cibo's and I will go again. Perfect table in the corner with the view in different directions of the river. Started with wine and 1 wine glass came with lipstick on it, this was corrected immediately. We all picked an item and shared everything. The Carbonara had a great kick from the chili, 2 of us thought it was great, 1 thought it was a little spicy. The Bourguignon with fries was wonderful, a large portion, great to share. The Pear and Proscuitto Pizza was delicious. Came on a very thin crust, cut into 6 slices (great for sharing). They were out of Cambazola and checked with us if we still wanted to order it, replacing the cheese with Brie. Very nice that they just didn't change it with out asking us first. "

  • "I was disappointed. I had the burger with Caesar salad. The burger was over charred. Hard and dry. The salad was the opposite of what a Caesar salad should be. My friend had the Bruschetta. Two different kinds. One was good and the other resembled an oped faced tomato sandwich you make at home. Pretty bland. Dessert were chocolate mouse fritters.... again, nothing to write home about. And I like my deserts. Overall, great building, great location, nice staff, but the food is a miss. Also, it's a good thing it wasn't busy, because they didn't get the online reservation made the night before. At least I can say "Been there, ate that... don't need to go back""
