Diner Reviews
  • "Took a client fro lunch. The service was very bad. The server told us the specials and once we decided that we want the special, told us that the kitchen had chnaged the specials. They didnt have regular coffee. I will never go back there again."

  • "I loved the food! I enjoyed the fireplace blazing in the background. The music was too loud, that's why I rated the ambience low."

  • "A very nice small bistro. Excellent professional servers. The maitre 'd had some interesting wine suggestions. Crostini a must. Would also be great as a tapas with a drink. Pastas interesting and tasty. Lovely friendly setting. Five star experience."

  • "Food was excellent. Very good service in the restaurant. But... They were one hour behind on our reservation...so they sent us to the bar. Bar was too loud. Restaurant was loud as well for a time once we got out table. Manager said he was going to take care of us for the inconvenience, but didn't."

  • "Upon arriving at the mostly empty room the hostess took our name, found our reso then told us to pick any table. I pointed at a table in the back corner. She then paused & walked away. She returned to say 'that' table was reserved for a 'regular'. Well, I guess we can't pick 'any' table. She asked if we'd like to choose another.. "Just pick one' I said. Not a good start. The room is small and warm, & waitress was polite and professional. The food however, completely underwhelming. The burrata starter was on bland doughy bread. The pastas were good. Steak was mediocre. In a city with dozens of good italian restaurants... this one doesn't live up to the hype. And, that corner table was still empty when we left. I won't be back."

  • "Came here with the girls- 5 of us. Was looking for something new. Great charm, Delicious food. Very good service. Reasonable price and would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Love love love. Great service, nice space - loved the fireplace! And the food is absolutely delicious. Unique dishes - not the same old stuff you see on every restaurant menu. Great flavours, local and seasonally inspired. Wait staff really knows how to recommend for taste and wine pairings. It's a perfect, personal dining experience. And if you're not into wine, they also have a great drink menu, lots of scotch and other spirits. Will definitely go again!!"

  • "Location is good and the menu has potential, but nothing hit the mark. Champagne flight was warm, and the food was marginal. The décor was very downtrodden and seemed a bit grubby."

  • "On Friday night I went to Cibo with my girlfriend for the second time. I was eager to try all the food I hadn't tried the first time. When we got into the restaurant we were immediately greeted and asked if they could take our coats, then we were offered a choice of tables. The place was rather busy at the time, and got busier throughout the night (that's a sign of a good restaurant) yet despite how busy it was our waitress took the time to carefully explain, and answer any of our endless questions about the menu, as the menu is written in a bled of Italian and restaurantese. The food was spectacular! As were the drinks (being under aged my selection was alittle limited, but adults will love it)"

  • "We thought the food and service very good, prices a little high. Main course could have done with another vegetable."

  • "It's hard to find a restaurant that's really suitable for the theatre but this one fits the bill entirely. Aside from being kitty-corner to the theatre, it has a great range of small plates for either before or after an event. And it's attached to a hotel, so it keeps great hours. The food was excellent and the service very good. We'll be back! As the menu is very focussed on seasonality and being local, there's not much point in me going on about how good the duck pâté was. Nice selection of wines by the glass. We came on a typical rotten wet evening and the fireplace really warmed us."

  • "We had dinner prior to a function at the Orpheum and the restaurant was very convenient. The food is excellent and the wine list is very good. The service left a bit to be desired. They have the best Earl Grey Lavender Martini's."

  • "We were a party of 5 who selected Cibo based on a recommendation and proximity to The Orpheum. We were seated at a high top table with no hooks to hang purses and chairs that are not suitable to do so comfortably. The staff seemed rushed and stressed all evening. Two types if water were offered and the waiter never mentioned a two dollar charge for warm "still" water that tasted like tap water. Some of our table were missing cutlery, side plates and the bread was served dry with no oil & vinegar dip Coffee was never delivered Food is over priced for portion size Not an optimal dining experience for a restaurant so close to the theatre they were overwhelmed by the crowd as though never experiencing it before. Would not go back or reccomend"

  • "I had dinner at Cibo with a client recently. Terry was our server. She was phenomenal. She has excellent knowledge of the food and wine. So much so that we had her order for us. It was a fabulous dinner and I am very much looking forward to another great Cibo experience soon."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about my experience at Cibo Trattoria. From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty by the friendly servers. The food was outstanding: the trio of bruschettas were all excellent and unique. I had the leek risotto which was incredible - perfect texture and beautiful flavour. My partner had the tagliatelle with pork & veal, and the pasta was cooked to perfection and a great portion size. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We came for Valentines dinner. The only option for food was a 5 course tasting menu. All I can say is wow! Every bite was delicious. Unfortunately the items on this tasting menu are not on the regular menu. Only available for Valentines day. We were told by the server the tasting menu food might get onto the regular menu if they get good feedback. Well they have my vote - please add everyone of these outstading dishes. I have eaten from the regular menu and although good didn't match these outstanding dishes. I will be watching for this in the future."

  • "Everything was great. The main course could have been a little larger. Service was excellent. We let waitress select our drinks and they were excellent. Yes we would go back."

  • "Quality over quantity definitely. Highly recommenda the Porkbelly on Mustard Lentils. The service was attentive, and the wine was excellently decanted. The pricing of the winelist is fair Lasltly, the noise level was all right for us but could be different on Fri or Sat night."

  • "My co-workers and I went as a group and all of us left completely satisfied and happy. The service never leaves the person to question anything because everything was comforting and delicious. From the conversation to make reservations, to helping with menu selections and finally to handing us back our jackets after we were finished eating, we felt we we're welcomed."

  • "Great location for Symphony-goers: kiddy-corner from Orpheum. Decor and set-up quite good! Not cramped, pleasant fireplace, enjoyable background music that did not impede conversation. BUT - the service was very poor. Mostly absent, very disorganized and delayed at best. Brunch was mediocre - acceptable, but merely satisfied hunger. Prices moderate - not a great loss. I'll likely go again because of location and environment, but will allow lots of time for service and not expect much of cuisine."

  • "The food was pretty good and the service was excellent but the ambience was difficult. Very noisy and clattery. The music was too loud and it was quite congested. Wouldn't go back."

  • "Great food and fantastic wine list! Service was also very 'top drawer'. The space is a bit tight.... but energetic surroundings. Very good staff & service."

  • "Smaller menu but excellent items. Our table had a variety of things and all seemed to enjoy the food. Service was excellent. Modestly priced bottle of wine was appropriately decanted - very nice. We did the dine-out vancouver menu and were a bit disappointed that it only contained regular menu items, no special additions. Definitely will go again! And the bonus of being next door to UVA for an after dinner custom made cocktail - delish"

  • "Overall outstanding food, drinks and service. This restaurant is part of one of the best cocktail bars in Vancouver. Try a cocktail to start or go to the bar next door after to make a perfect evening. The only complaint is my wife didn't like her beet salad (pickled beets instead of fresh - yuk). Other than that the food was outstanding."

  • "Great spot when attending an event at the Orpheum. Convenient, good food."

  • "My wife and I had our first dinner here a year ago, and returned for a special occasion. The food was excellent, and beautifully presented. We enjoyed fresh oysters, a salad, roasted bone marrow, and the pasta special with delicata squash and crispy sage leaves, and I also had a wonderfully light, foamy, and tasty zabaglioni. The wine list contains some very lovely wines, making the choice difficult. We repeated a previous selection of Lamborghini Tresconi, a full-bodied Umbrian wine made by the car people! This wine is gorgeous and definitely benefits from decanting as our server recommended. It is very hard to find in the Vancouver area. Another great evening and we will return."

  • "Fabulous service right from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted warmly and everything was done possible to accommodate our party despite the fact we were late for our reservation. We enjoyed our evening immensely and they even got us off to the VSO concert with time to spare."

  • "perfect place for a romantic dinner. absolutely some of the best, freshest food i have ever tasted. quite simply, amazing. Teri was an outstanding server who knew everything about the food and wine and was great to converse with. My girlfriend and I came up here from Portland, Oregon for her birthday. We enjoyed visiting vancouver and Cibo made her birthday dinner a memorable one. we will definitely be back."

  • "I am a return guest of this restaurant and I had high hopes for it since I had had a great experience last time during dine out Vancouver. First the menu only served brunch which was not written on the website and I was hoping my was getting a nice Italian pasta dish for her birthday…then it took 1 hour for us to get our brunch dishes and the restaurant was not full. Our jackets which they took of us when we got in were lying outside for the whole time (they did not hang it up) and the food (except the burrata) was disappointing…my frittata with tuna had hardly any tuna in it, my daughter's french toast was actually panettone fried with way too much maple syrup, all in all not a pleasant experience…not going back."

  • "Had dinner there with two friends. This was a second visit to this incredible gem. Drinks are made in the adjoining bar where mixology rules and the cocktails are always a great taste experience Service was attentive and informative. Both the waitress and the sommelier were helpful in making suitable choices. Appetizers (Beet, yes beet not beef, carpaccio and rabbit) were tasty, well presented and in portions that satisfied but left room for the mains. Duck risotto, rabbit and duck breast were all delicious main meals and the wine and water were constantly and discreetly replenished. Finished off the meal choosing from the well chosen port list. Have thoroughly enjoyed both visits to this hidden gem and plan on returning again."

  • "Wonderful restaurant. Will definitely go back. The pasta was super. The service outstanding. And wonderful value. The kind of place I would come with my husband for a nice meal after work as a treat, or with a group of friends. In our case, we were a group of gal-pals hanging out, and it was perfect as we got to talk and the noise wasn't overwhelming (in addition to the fabulous food - everyone loved their dishes)."

  • "Our light dinner prior to theatre was enjoyable. The beet carpaccio excellent. The rabbit pasta excellent, the stracci overly salted. We are looking forward to our next visit. Staff friendly, helpful, efficient."
