Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to Cibo about 5 or 6 times. It's always predictable; never outstanding but always pretty good. Portions (on the pasta that I had) seemed small but it ended up being a sufficient amount. It's a good, consistent place."

  • "I ate here twice during my stay in Monterey. The first time was by myself at the bar. Even though I was the only one at the bar - service was slow. Waited 5 minutes just to be recognized. Food was great. Had to ask for bread with dinner. Came back with a party of four after our event and the place was very busy for a Monday night. The waiters were slammed but did a great job and the food was again very good. Would return again."

  • "We were in on a Thursday and a jazz band was playing doing 20's jazz, 40's hot jazz including Django Reinhardt among others - fabulous. I wish I could say the same about the food. We started with clams which tasted fishy and old. I had the aglio y olio which provided no relationship to the dish whatsover. My husband had the chicken arrostito which was dry and flavorless. I would definitely go back for the music but would avoid the food and stick with cocktails from the bar - until they improve the output from their kitchen."

  • "Great combination of good food and quiet jazz group in background! Also, good value!"

  • "Service was fantastic as well as the food. They really went out of their way to take care of 10 of us for dinner. Highly recommend"

  • "we attended the San Carlos School request to try Cibo's and whatever money we spent, Cibo's would donate 20% the church. We decided to try it and loved it. The food was fabulous. Probably the best fish pasta I have eaten. Tons of fish, flavor was excellent and our food server was well trained and very friendly. I suggest you do this more often."

  • "I wouldn't have tried this place had I not read such positive reviews about it. I ordered the Gnochi Trio and my wife has a pasta dish. Both meals were wonderful. The portion sizes were generous. All in all I'd recommend it."

  • "We enjoyed our evening at Cibo. The food was excellent and there was a small band that added to our enjoyment"

  • "We gave specific details on how we wanted our pasta dishes to be made, and still the kitchen made big mistakes. Also, the waiter was not attentive and rarely came to our table to see if we needed anything. The waiter did not seem to care at all. The food overall was mediocre, and very overpriced. The only good thing about this restaurant is the overall ambiance and maybe the live music."

  • "We try to dine here whenever we're in Monterey. Reliably excellent menu, and dependable serving staff. While the menu changes, the quality is top shelf."

  • "Restaurant was busy however our service was attentive and skilled. I would rate our meal as good."

  • "The artichoke ravioli was delicious. And I loved the arugula salad mostly because it has a perfect goat cheese medallion on it that is so yummy! I was sad that they did not have any of their chocolate desserts on the night we were there but the creme brûlée cheesecake was yummy too!!"

  • "I hadn't been to Cibo in years. . .but tried it again on New Year's Day. What a wonderful experience. From the waiter to the dessert - I would come back in a moment! Thanks for making it all so delicious!"

  • "Super yummy authentic italian cuisine. The owner came up to our table and checked on us. She was sicilian and you could tell she cares about her restaurant. The food was delicious. The waiter however forgot about our table at the end. We waited for 15 min without anyone coming to check in at the end. To his defense it was busy and a saturday but still. The host was very accommodating. We had been hiking and our party looked a little to outdoorsy but he made sure we felt welcome."

  • "My new wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Hyatt Camel Highlands and had a great time there. On our last night, we wanted to find the perfect Italian restaurant in the area and we found Cibo through Google and selected it based on the positive reviews. The wait staff were great and attentive however the food was very disappointing. We ordered the BBQ Baby Octopus where the presentation poor but the octopus was not quite a baby. Instead it arrives in huge pieces that were very tough with the texture and taste of beef jerky. I ordered the snapper special and it also arrived at the table in pieces and with a very poor presentation. The side vegetables where completely overcooked. Very disappointing experience."

  • "This was our first time at Cibo, the main draw for us was to enjoy Holidoff's Jazz Trio - great local musicians. They played many standards in the hour or so we were there and we thoroughly enjoyed it - not too loud to make conversation difficult at all. The bruschetta appetizer was great and the perfect amount for two or three people. The ravioli entree was a large portion and very rich, tasty but I think I would opt for something less rich next time. My husband had the grilled salmon and said it was overdone around the edges but got better the more he got to the middle, the accompanying risotto was fantastic. Attentive service and support staff, we look forward to going back and sampling the menu which offered a nice variety of entrees."

  • "I went during happy hour and it was unbearably loud - should have paid attention to the Yelp review about the noise level. Wanted to try a nice restaurant in walking distance from my hotel, having tried another the night before. Asked to be put in a quiet corner because I was dining alone - but was seated right next to the other side of the bar. likely no other suitable spot that was staffed at 6:30 because not many diners at that time. Lobster and filet carpaccio was unremarkable; the complimentary polenta appetizer courtesy of referral from Marriott Hotel was similar. Ordered hearts of romaine - because I didn't feel like anything heavy - meat, pasta, cheese, etc. Service was distant; the noise was so loud I just wanted to eat and leave."

  • "Consistently good Italian fare, good service and live music. Artichoke appetizer fabulous -- the roasted artichoke and the balsamic reduction and cream garlic sauces are a tasty combination. Pear tart lacked flavor and the short crust was soggy."
