A word from Ciao Wine Bar
Ciao Wine Bar offers a truly authentic Italian experience in a contemporary yet soulful environment in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville District. This new Italian eatery and wine bar, created by the Liberty Entertainment Group, offers traditional Italian fare in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. />
While Ciao encompasses over 8,000 sq. ft. over three different levels and seats 250, the space remains warm and inviting. The lower level has been transformed into an underground “rustic cellar” with arched brick walls, vaulted ceilings and vintage viewing wine racks. The focal point of the lower level is the alabaster pizza bar. The mezzanine level, with stone + glass walls, rustic wood finishes and butcher block table tops make Ciao ideal for a casual relaxed meal yet elegant enough for a special night out. Street level seating opens onto Yorkville Avenue where diners can linger over a glass of wine late into the evening.

Diner Reviews
  • "A friend and I went to Ciao for dinner and we decided to try their Summerlicious menu. The food (Ravioli and Caprese salad) was good but the service wasn't so great. It was extremely hot in the restaurant. They didn't have the AC on. Only the the doors & all the windows open to let "air" in. It was hot & humid outside so I didn't understand the point of that. One of the servers knocked over a drink that was on the table and it got all over the food and table, plus there was glass everywhere. They did apologize but when it came time for the bill we weren't even given a free drink or a discount off of the bill for the inconvenience. If you care about your customers and want them to come back, I believe this is something that should be done."

  • "I should have listened to the many negative reviews - they were spot on. The server seemed so disinterested in serving us. He brought us bread (the only yummy part of the food besides the wine) but no dish for the olive oil and balsamic. Nor did he bring us cutlery and napkins. We had to ask another server who was placing them on tables near by. Service: bad. Food: just as bad. It was not horrible - I was able to eat it, but I swear, it was just like cafeteria food. I would not have been able to tell the difference. Never coming back and not recommending it. Disappointed as it was our first date night since having a baby. But we still had fun."

  • "The food here was alright at best, nothing special. The salad was ordinary. The Italian club was very good. The tiramisu was adequate and nothing special. However, the service was horrible. Waitress gave dirty looks the entire time (as if we did not belong) and never checked in on us (constantly needed water), made dining very uncomfortable. Also, the wrong dessert was brought - ordered Panna Cotta but received tiramisu instead. Very poor service. Décor and interior were nice, however."

  • "A good place to go with a friend or a group -- small front patio, but side patio (though very narrow/tight) is a good escape from the street. Lower level is cave-like, in a good way…. Good atmosphere. Food has its ups & down -- and there can be real service issues, but overall a good spot in an area with far too few places for a decent meal."

  • "I went with my friends for lunch. It was in the middle of Yorkville. First of all, the atmosphere of Ciao is very nice, fancy and luxurious. I wanna go back for dinner. The food was really good. The service was ok because it was busy Saturday lunch. I recommend it!"

  • "Hostess is a bi***, told me that I could not reserve a table on the patio when I arrived an hour early - proceeded to place a reserved sign on an open table for two outside. When I asked her who the table was for, she told me "probably for friends of the manager". Ridiculous."

  • "I decided to try out Ciao Wine Bar during summerlicious. The menu sounded very promising, but unfortunately the quality and presentation of the food didn't live up to my expectations at all. I'm sure that they're regular menu is much better as I saw different dishes on other tables looking great. But it's a pity that the restaurant can't reflect their regular quality of food in the summerlicious menu in order for people to actually want to come back and try more."

  • " I've been to your restaurant on several occasions and this was most disappointing visit: The food was cold, pasta salty and small portions. Linguine seafood pasta dish was nothing special and the dish came with very little seafood. Not worth the price at all! The most annoying part was that we paid an additional $4.00 for pasta - not sure why because our dish already came with linguine. We were offered the choice to change the pasta so we opted for pappardelle however there was no mention of a premium. This is misleading and unethical. Service too was slow. We asked to split our dish since we were sharing however as per the chef this is not their practice. Overall, I won't be back to this restaurant."

  • "With reservations they put us at a high warped wood table; care needed to avoid tipping glasses. Near the bar. Open windows No AC. Service slow & cold. Awful Caesar salads! Not enough octopus in the appetizer. Arancini rice balls were good. Bubbly wine appeared because starters took 60 mins. No apologies. 45 mins. more for mains. Trout was best of the worst. Tasteless lobster stuffed Cannelloni. One of those went back. Chicken Parmesan was so dry it went back. Orecchiette was ok. Fettuccini Primavera was unrecognizable. No whole vegetables; pureed indiscriminate vegetables on less than al dente noodles. That too was half eaten. The manager never appeared; heard he doesn't care. We had dessert elsewhere. Stay really far away from Ciao!"

  • "The food was okay we ordered pizza once they got the order right took about one hour to get my pizza was okay nothing special appetizers were great I had the polenta fries and the deep-fried zucchini and carciofi, 20 minutes to get a drink I think is way too long that's going giving you three out of five usually they usually there a lot better"

  • "Average food. Average service. We enjoyed sitting outside on a warm summer evening in yorkville, but this restaurant is really nothing special. Try Cafe Nervossa down the street!"

  • "The food was average at best. Service was just OK, not enough waiters and way too many tables."

  • "My girlfriend and I came to this establishment because of all the raving reviews we received from friends. I was disappointed in the service I received. We waited at least five minutes before any server acknwdged our table, even though they were interacting with other tables beside us. We waited 40 minutes for food that never arrived, and our server seemed rude and uninterested in taking our table. In fact, she pawned our table off to another server which as a fellow bartender, I find unprofessional. All in all, I've been to this restaurant several times and was super disappointed in the service I received this time around."

  • "They were so accommodating! My family wanted a table by the window. They instantly cleared off a table and said we could take it. I originally said the reservation was at 5:30pm. Then I wanted it to be at 4:30pm and when I went back to ask them if it was okay, they smiled and said "of course!" They also reassured me that my table by the window would be reserved for us even though we changed the time. Great, friendly service with amazing food!"

  • "I love going to Ciao, I bring all my friends and their boyfriends/fiancee's with us, and its a place I definitely recommend. It is a fantastic place for young and older couples, it has a warm ambiance and has a menu to please all. Even those of us with food allergies! I love how affordable it can be and our waiter was very friendly!"

  • "The 3 of us arrived on time and were seated promptly as the restaurant was empty (only 3 tables occupied). We waited 15 minutes for a server We asked about the In Fretta menu we had seen online and were told it was only on M-F (not on website). Strike 1. We asked for a few minutes to review the menu. 15 minutes goes by. Finally we ordered: Frittata, Eggs, Florentine, salad, Spaghetti Carbonara and one glass of wine. 10 minutes later the salad came before the wine. Salad finished. Wine appears. 30 minutes until our meals appear. Food great. She clears table saying nothing. Brings desert menus. Never returns. Finally appears after 15 minutes and we ask her to split bill. She say's no - "it's super busy" (only 5 tables)."

  • "Great spot for a delicious dinner in a trendy atmosphere. The service is great and I bring people to Ciao all the time, particularly out-of-towners because there's so much variety on the menu."

  • "We felt that the food and wine were overpriced considering the service and quality of the food. Also, one our guests ordered steak medium rare and it arrived medium. He did not want to wait for it to be replaced since he would be eating when everyone else had finished but there was no reduction in our bill. "

  • "The food was good, but the service was brutal. We waited for a good half hour before we were offered drinks. At the end of the meal the waitress dropped off dessert/coffee menus and disappeared! She never came back! We were trapped! After 45 minutes, we had to find another server to get our bill and cash us out. Ridiculous! One of our group asked if our original waitress fell ill or something. In Toronto's competitive resto scene, this place might want to step up its game."

  • "The only thing i didn't like is that our drinks didn't come together. Maybe because we were a party of ten. Some of us had to wait. Overall, the service was excellent and our waitress was super friendly."

  • "I have NEVER written a review for a restaurant so that should be telling of how good this place was! The ambiance was nice, the food was fantastic, and our server was great and honest about items on the menu. We were a party of four and ordered a pitcher on sangria, 4 cocktails, 3 apps, and four mains, with a bill of just over $200. Not bad at all in my opinion. I had NO complaints about any of the food. I would recommend this place to even the pickiest of Italians...and that's saying something!!"

  • "Very disappointing. The restaurant is very loud, to the point of having to yell to be heard. The food, however, was mediocre at best. I ordered the Caprese Pizza - it was literally tasteless. Cardboard in my mouth. My friend ordered the Quattro Pizza - the bottom was burned black, and could be tasted throughout the entire pizza. The server was pleasant, the white wine sangria was very nice. Unfortunate, but I will not go back. "

  • "We had a terrible night. We waited 2 hours for our food. Our friends were ill the next day from the fish they ordered. Pizza came cold and pasta barely warm. The chef was overwhelmed and threw a pot at a staff member in the kitchen that could be heard from our table."

  • "Loved the food at Ciao. It's simple and allows the flavours and ingredients to speak for themselves. The grilled calamari is worth coming back for, and our friends raved about the pastas. The wine list is great (obviously) with plenty by the glass options. Service was efficient and friendly too. Would definitely recommend. "

  • "Service extremely slow. We were there for a lunch reservation at 1:30 and didn't get out til 4:00!!! I believe the manager was serving us at first, he is an odd person and was uncomfortable to interact with. Not sure who our waitress even was. Cool atmosphere considering you are right on yorkville but nothing else to really speak positively to. "

  • "Plenty of tables, sit outside in warm weather, wifi available. A great place to have a glass of wine and meal on your own, or share a bottle with friends. Menu ranging from pizzas to salads to entrees. Pasta was excellently cooked, though oversalted. Very nice environment,"

  • "excellent food, however 2 out of 3 guests received incorrect food that we ordered, rice took 20 min waiter said it would take 5 min. one person ate alone while we waited for our food. no compensation as a result of his error."

  • "This is my 4th time to Ciao and my 2nd time with a bad experience. The waiter explained the menu and then the manager came to take our orders. I spoke up just to explain we were ready to order from the brunch menu and I received a rude 'SHHH' in return because "today was all about the mothers". The owner made my mom feel uncomfortable; as well I was paying the bill therefore you shouldn't tell me to be quiet. A fight broke out in the kitchen between the manager and a customer which resulted in a very unpleasant experience. Food was WAY too salty and my mains came 2 minutes after getting my appetizer. "

  • "Nice location but too much noise to carry on a conversation. Food was nice but not spectacular for the price. May be a better place for lunch rather than dinner. "

  • "A beautiful space but poorly managed. Our food was quite delayed and we had to keep looking for a server (nobody offered us fresh pepper, desert menu, came to ask about our meals...). Unfortunately our party was more than 6 people so we got charged 16% gratuity (the tip was calculated on the after tax amount!!). We complained to the manager and he did nothing. We won't be back."

  • "Had a great time at Ciao Wine Bar for their Mothers' Day Brunch. Was pleasantly surprised by the food. Everyone at the table had a great time. Service was good too. Mom said it was the best Mothers' Day she had yet! "

  • "A gem amongst a posh neighborhood. We are glad we took this recommendation from a friend. Excellent wine options . Great options for gluten free and health fanatics alike, like subst Spelt pasta option Labeled GF dishes. Many great options for fish, poultry and meat not to mention risottos, pastas, and a list of great pizzas. The waiters and buss staff were polite ans the food came out in record breaking time. Would definately recommend and visit again. "

  • "Ciao has the best ravioli I've had so far. It is not too heavy, the pasta is cooked to perfection, and the serving is more than enough. The flavours blend together very well. My friends and I love coming here for special occasions or just an occasional splurge. "

  • "We were a group of 9, so a pretty big group. They put us in this little area off to the side so it felt like we had a private room which was really nice. I have been a few times in the evening in the past and it felt as if they were trying to rush you out and I'm not such a pizza and pasta fan so I never really enjoyed it. But Brunch was different. The waiter was great, the food was superb. My only complaint was they wouldn't customize anything. Wouldn't take the peppers out of the salad, take away the hollandaise sauce, take the meat out of the omelet... In the end they agreed to do minor changed but it was still difficult to order. Again though, the food was great in the end. I highly recommend the smoked salmon salad and poached eggs."

  • "Love the decor, very comfortable dining area. The portion was very generous. Quite a huge selection of wine. I was there for Mother's Day Brunch, and the poach egg of the Egg Florentine was made just perfect for me! The vegetarian risotto was very creamy yet doesn't feel too heavy."
