A word from Ciao Wine Bar
Ciao Wine Bar offers a truly authentic Italian experience in a contemporary yet soulful environment in the heart of Toronto’s Yorkville District. This new Italian eatery and wine bar, created by the Liberty Entertainment Group, offers traditional Italian fare in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. />
While Ciao encompasses over 8,000 sq. ft. over three different levels and seats 250, the space remains warm and inviting. The lower level has been transformed into an underground “rustic cellar” with arched brick walls, vaulted ceilings and vintage viewing wine racks. The focal point of the lower level is the alabaster pizza bar. The mezzanine level, with stone + glass walls, rustic wood finishes and butcher block table tops make Ciao ideal for a casual relaxed meal yet elegant enough for a special night out. Street level seating opens onto Yorkville Avenue where diners can linger over a glass of wine late into the evening.

Diner Reviews
  • "Although the appetizer we had were not memorable the entrees more than made up for them. The fried squid rings were tough the lobster ravioli was just okay and the prices for each of them were close to the entree prices. However the lobster cannelloni and the shrimp tagliatelle were great. Plus Ciao is located in a great area perfect for an outdoor summer meal. I would definitely recommend it."

  • "The food was alright, nothing wow at all. The main dish was very simple, dessert was not good, and it took them an awful amount of time to prepare our table and get our orders, even though we had a reservation. The place has a nice decor, so if you are looking for the look, the inside is good."

  • "I booked a reservation for my family of 12 to have Summerlicious lunch at Ciao for my brother's birthday. We didn't know what to expect because we don't dine in Toronto often (we're from Mississauga) but took a chance because the menu and the place looked good overall from photos online. So glad we chose Ciao because the servers were so friendly and down-to-earth, so understanding when half of our party was running quite late. She even offered to serve us bread while we were waiting. The food was absolutely amazing! Good portions, great flavours. Even if it was Summerlicious, it didn't feel like they cheaped out of anything. It was such a nice, comfortable, and relaxing dining experience for my family!"

  • "I joined a party of 5 ladies to celebrate our friend's bachelorette party. We had reservations for 9pm on a Saturday night and the place was hopping!! We were seated downstairs which was bit dark but it wasn't that big of a deal. The restaurant had a Summerlicious menu and we each ordered something from it. I had a caprese salad which was OK (the tomatoes tasted a bit off but the mozzo cheese was delicious) complete with ricotta and spinach-filled ravioli. I topped off my meal with a panacotta dessert which was tasty. Although the food was really good and the ambiance was fantastic, I gave my experience 3 stars because the service was really slow. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable but it took forever to get our meals."

  • "After reading a few reviews, I was a bit nervous about the service....but I found the service to be great. We were going to a show, so we wanted to be efficient on time. The server understood this and accordingly the service was friendly, open, efficient but not at all rushed. We had the Summerlicious menu and it was very good!"

  • "I went to this restaurant during Summerlicious (SL) and was expecting a good dining experience (at the minimum) since I attended another restaurant during SL two weeks earlier and had a great time. Our was okay but it was difficult to contact him when needed. The app was okay but bland. The main & dessert was a step up but it wasn't that great. I was also surprised that our server didn't come around with a pepper mill or asked if we wanted additional seasonings without prompt (there were none on the table). Overall, this dining experience was forgettable and wouldn't pay for these dishes at the normal price. SL is supposed to be a preview on what a restaurant has to offer outside of this time & if this what's offered, I won't be returning."

  • "The ambiance was great. The service was friendly and entertaining. The restaurant is very modern and had tons of seating. I am a vegetarian and enjoyed the menu. My husband had the veal and thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely go back again. Thanks and Ciao."

  • "I dined with my family for summerlicious lunch and it was definitely the worst dininng experience. The service was horrible. Our waitress took such a long time to come. Most of the time, she didn't even look at our table. The food was just okay but the caprese salad and salmon were little bland. The dessert tasted awful. I would definitely not go back to this restaurant again and I would recommend my friends to avoid here"

  • "The food was delicious. The portion size for a Summerlicious may be one of the biggest I've seen. The only gripe is that our waitress was quite busy, so it took quite a while to get our bill, then to pay. Other than that, excellent night!"

  • "Worst food, poor service! Just a bad experience, AVOID!!!"

  • "The entree (salmon) was overcooked and dry. The other 2 courses were good. Ambience, service as always excellent. I go to Ciao often, this was the first time I was underwhelmed. Removing pizza from the Summerlicious menu - not a great idea! It is one of their best dishes. Perhaps I should have chosen the pasta :("

  • "I went with a friend for drinks and snacks after work. They were out of a few of the menu items we'd tried to order, but we were really happy with the alternatives suggested by our waiter. Service was a little over-attentive, but he finally figured out that we just wanted to talk, and left us to enjoy the delicious food and excellent sangria."

  • "A friend and I met for the summerlicious lunch last week. Our server was fantastic: friendly, helpful, attentive, but the Calabrese salad and our main courses (chicken sandwich and salmon) were a bit bland. The deserts were outstanding-- especially the panna cotta!"

  • "Poor all round - too bad - the location is great and design of the floors are nice - just lousy food that was obviously prepared too long in advance. We were rushed through dinner in a half empty restaurant - can only wonder why. Our server was more interested in getting us out than serving our meal. Wine is way over priced - I do not mind paying more for something exceptional but the place did not deliver to expectations. I will not go back and will tell others the same."

  • "waitress took a long time to come to our table. My friend asked for some water and they brought him a bottle of water which costed a hefty $7.00 and didn't even ask if we wanted bottled. great for summerlicious for $15. Tiramisiu dessert had a funny taste, the panacotta was good. chicken club sandwich was over salty. Salmon was good but could have eased up on the butter/oil as my vegetables seemed quite buttery."

  • "More pasta choices for summerlicious would be a good idea. I found the tilapia and veal for the main to be limited choices. Since it's an Italian resto, pasta would be the average customer'a first preference."

  • "First and last visit. The pasta looks like they were prepare in advance, not fresh as they promote. Good choice of wine."

  • "It was a Friday night and my colleagues and I, along with our partners, went out to celebrate a birthday. I was excited to introduce them to Ciao as I had be there numerous times and always had a pleasant experience. Thankfully, summerlicious was going on so this was a perfect opportunity to be out and about. I went ahead of time to reserve a patio table and thankfully, it only took a half hour. In the meantime, I enjoyed a delicious concoction made of Moscato, Gin and peach schnapps. As the night went on, my whole group dropped in and ordered from the summerlicious menu and we all loved it! They also commented on the atmosphere and the amazing service which will bring us back on another occasion. Great job Ciao!!!"

  • "We had planned to dine at the Ciao Wine Bar to sample the Summerlicious menu. Once our order was placed the hot entrées arrived within 5 minutes, faster than the waitress could even bring us our wine. We had the feeling that they wanted to turn our table over quickly. If you can turn that table over quickly, means new customers, meaning more revenue. As soon as our entrees were done, hot plates arrived and so on. The sausage, rapini and pasta entrees was good but a little greasy. The sauce for the ravioli reminded me of Chef Boyardi and the sauce on my veal was bland. Pane Cotta was good but overall the food was disappointing. I probably will not go back since there are so many other restaurants in Toronto to sample."

  • "Haven't been to Ciao in a few years, but my experience this time was not at par with what I remembered. We ordered off the summerlicious menu which was very disappointing. The fish lacked any flavour and the vegetables we so mushy they tasted as if they had been microwaved. We ordered a bottle of wine and some cocktails to start. The wine was good, but when we asked for a recommendation the waiter was not very knowledgable and couldn't really make a decent recomendation but just pointed at the most popular one. I can understand how these priced fixed menu could be annoying for service staff. But we didn't have our waiter come up to us once to see how we were enjoying everything, and only ate half our meals."

  • "The food was absolutely phenomenal for the $15 summerlicious lunch! Perfect portions, friendly service, and speedy service, perfect for those work lunches when you only have an hour. The Gigli pasta was delicious and light as a main, while the ricotta cannolli was the perfect ending to lunch date."

  • "A friend and I went to Ciao for dinner and we decided to try their Summerlicious menu. The food (Ravioli and Caprese salad) was good but the service wasn't so great. It was extremely hot in the restaurant. They didn't have the AC on. Only the the doors & all the windows open to let "air" in. It was hot & humid outside so I didn't understand the point of that. One of the servers knocked over a drink that was on the table and it got all over the food and table, plus there was glass everywhere. They did apologize but when it came time for the bill we weren't even given a free drink or a discount off of the bill for the inconvenience. If you care about your customers and want them to come back, I believe this is something that should be done."

  • "I should have listened to the many negative reviews - they were spot on. The server seemed so disinterested in serving us. He brought us bread (the only yummy part of the food besides the wine) but no dish for the olive oil and balsamic. Nor did he bring us cutlery and napkins. We had to ask another server who was placing them on tables near by. Service: bad. Food: just as bad. It was not horrible - I was able to eat it, but I swear, it was just like cafeteria food. I would not have been able to tell the difference. Never coming back and not recommending it. Disappointed as it was our first date night since having a baby. But we still had fun."

  • "Hostess is a bi***, told me that I could not reserve a table on the patio when I arrived an hour early - proceeded to place a reserved sign on an open table for two outside. When I asked her who the table was for, she told me "probably for friends of the manager". Ridiculous."

  • "The food here was alright at best, nothing special. The salad was ordinary. The Italian club was very good. The tiramisu was adequate and nothing special. However, the service was horrible. Waitress gave dirty looks the entire time (as if we did not belong) and never checked in on us (constantly needed water), made dining very uncomfortable. Also, the wrong dessert was brought - ordered Panna Cotta but received tiramisu instead. Very poor service. Décor and interior were nice, however."

  • "I went with my friends for lunch. It was in the middle of Yorkville. First of all, the atmosphere of Ciao is very nice, fancy and luxurious. I wanna go back for dinner. The food was really good. The service was ok because it was busy Saturday lunch. I recommend it!"

  • "I decided to try out Ciao Wine Bar during summerlicious. The menu sounded very promising, but unfortunately the quality and presentation of the food didn't live up to my expectations at all. I'm sure that they're regular menu is much better as I saw different dishes on other tables looking great. But it's a pity that the restaurant can't reflect their regular quality of food in the summerlicious menu in order for people to actually want to come back and try more."

  • "A good place to go with a friend or a group -- small front patio, but side patio (though very narrow/tight) is a good escape from the street. Lower level is cave-like, in a good way…. Good atmosphere. Food has its ups & down -- and there can be real service issues, but overall a good spot in an area with far too few places for a decent meal."

  • " I've been to your restaurant on several occasions and this was most disappointing visit: The food was cold, pasta salty and small portions. Linguine seafood pasta dish was nothing special and the dish came with very little seafood. Not worth the price at all! The most annoying part was that we paid an additional $4.00 for pasta - not sure why because our dish already came with linguine. We were offered the choice to change the pasta so we opted for pappardelle however there was no mention of a premium. This is misleading and unethical. Service too was slow. We asked to split our dish since we were sharing however as per the chef this is not their practice. Overall, I won't be back to this restaurant."

  • "With reservations they put us at a high warped wood table; care needed to avoid tipping glasses. Near the bar. Open windows No AC. Service slow & cold. Awful Caesar salads! Not enough octopus in the appetizer. Arancini rice balls were good. Bubbly wine appeared because starters took 60 mins. No apologies. 45 mins. more for mains. Trout was best of the worst. Tasteless lobster stuffed Cannelloni. One of those went back. Chicken Parmesan was so dry it went back. Orecchiette was ok. Fettuccini Primavera was unrecognizable. No whole vegetables; pureed indiscriminate vegetables on less than al dente noodles. That too was half eaten. The manager never appeared; heard he doesn't care. We had dessert elsewhere. Stay really far away from Ciao!"

  • "The food was okay we ordered pizza once they got the order right took about one hour to get my pizza was okay nothing special appetizers were great I had the polenta fries and the deep-fried zucchini and carciofi, 20 minutes to get a drink I think is way too long that's going giving you three out of five usually they usually there a lot better"

  • "My girlfriend and I came to this establishment because of all the raving reviews we received from friends. I was disappointed in the service I received. We waited at least five minutes before any server acknwdged our table, even though they were interacting with other tables beside us. We waited 40 minutes for food that never arrived, and our server seemed rude and uninterested in taking our table. In fact, she pawned our table off to another server which as a fellow bartender, I find unprofessional. All in all, I've been to this restaurant several times and was super disappointed in the service I received this time around."

  • "I love going to Ciao, I bring all my friends and their boyfriends/fiancee's with us, and its a place I definitely recommend. It is a fantastic place for young and older couples, it has a warm ambiance and has a menu to please all. Even those of us with food allergies! I love how affordable it can be and our waiter was very friendly!"

  • "They were so accommodating! My family wanted a table by the window. They instantly cleared off a table and said we could take it. I originally said the reservation was at 5:30pm. Then I wanted it to be at 4:30pm and when I went back to ask them if it was okay, they smiled and said "of course!" They also reassured me that my table by the window would be reserved for us even though we changed the time. Great, friendly service with amazing food!"
