I had the herb pork loin - delicious and tender. my husband had the taco special - lobster & scallops - he said it was also delicious. we shared the pecan pie/tart and it was also delicious! wish i'd had my own!   • "All in all, better than expected. I felt they were really trying to do things right. The food really was outstanding, the ambiance a weak very good... the high ceilings reduce the noise a lot, but the abundant black curtains make it seem like they're taking the easy way out in the decor department, as if it was quickly put together theatre set. The service for the most part very good, but there's a difference in quality between and earnest college student and true professional wait staff. The wine list was okay... but the markup too high for the product."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Church and Main. This was not our first visit. The staff knew of the celebration and made certain that we had a table with some privacy. The staff was very attentive, but not overbearing. The complimentary champagne was wonderful. This was an unrushed meal, as always. The food is superb, the wine list is excellent, the ambiance is special and the staff is very knowledgeable about both food and drink. We recommend this restaurant to friends on a regular basis and always book it for special occasions. It was the perfect beginning to a perfect evening, one that we will long remember."

  • "Locals talk about how Church & Main is trying to find its identity after several recent changes. We were very pleased with the new Spring/Summer menu and its creative choices (a deconstructed cioppino, for example, creative cocktail specials that were not all sweet, the choice of small plates or large ones, and the decision to connect with local suppliers and to work with a local co-op market. The waitstaff and the General Manger loved to talk about food (always a good sign). The place needs a new coat of paint (hopefully not so dark) and the live music can get a bit loud, but large tables (even the two-tops) and their placement encouraged conversation, and the waitstaff went out of its way to accommodate seating preferences & service."

  • "Service was as bad as I can remember. Our waitress took around 15 minutes to come by our table. Water glasses never refilled. Never checked if we needed anything or if things were satisfactory. Gnocchi were severely over cooked and oily with far too much thyme. Chicken cordon blu was bland but not as bad as the gnocchi server took forever to bring our check. Most unsatisfactory meal, for a hefty price, that I have had in some time."

  • "I have passed Church & Main many times ans have never eaten there. For some reason most of thebusual places we eat had no reservations available. We gave Church & Main a try. It was great and will be on list in the future. The staff were great. The food was amazing. Highly recommended."

  • "The service was good but not of professional caliber. Server addressed only me a few times but didn't ask my husband if he needed anything as if I was to speak for him. I had the cheese board and the cioppini with Chorizo was ok only because I do tolerate hot and spicy foods occasionally but certainly was not warned of it's degree of spiciness. Largely mussels and maybe 2 large sea scallop sliced in half with about 2oz of cooked white fish broken up in it. Not a good value for what I paid. My husbands steak was nice although not the most tender we have ever had and the caesar salad ran the norm. In my opinion, too few wines by the glass. Not everyone wants to purchase a whole bottle. Probably won't venture back to BVT just to eat there."

  • "We had to pick up my son at Burlington airport so we consulted open table for advice for a spot for dinner first. We dined at Church and Main. We enjoyed our meals very much. I had the scallops and they were delicious. Our waiter Stephen was sweet and attentive.We enjoyed some nice wine. The evening in Burlington was brutally cold on a quiet Wednesday night, the restaurant was fairly empty. It looked like a nice bar. I think we will come again in the summer."

  • "We enjoyed the romantic atmosphere but were a bit disappointed by the lack of vegetarian options. Our server was able to accommodate my girlfriend and I by offering us an entree of the prixe fixe menu, but it would have been nice to have the option of an appetizer other than a cheese board. Wine was nice and the overall experience was positive, but menu options are very limited if you don't eat meat."

  • "I love Church & Main. I am so happy they are finally open on Sundays (and with the Church Service menu)!!! This is a great spot to get a craft cocktail and enjoy local Vermont food with a twist. The service is spectacular with a true neighborhood feel. I always end up in a great conversation at the bar sipping on a champagne cocktail. Definitely recommend the Spanish Influence as an appetizer. It is one of the best places to see and be seen in town. Will be coming back soon."

  • "I don't mind going to a restaurant and spending 100 dollars for two people or even for myself alone, but I shouldn't leave hungry. The entre's were 28 and 32 respectively and they should have been considered a good sized appitizer. They have appitizers on the menu, but I can't imagine how small they would have been. We ended getting a glass of wine each, the "entres" and a shared desert for $105 before tip. We went around the corner for a small app to curb the hunger. I wish them luck, but we're definitely not going back there."

  • "It may have been an off night, but our food experience was just average! The twin lobster tails were tough and the steak frites was vert chewy. The service was very friendly and timely. Despite being a trainee our young waitress was a delight. The saving grace was the chocolate dessert which was outstanding. This was our third time back and somewhat disappointed. But hey, two out of three ain't bad!"

  • "All of us enjoyed our meal and service at Church and Main. The ambiance of the room was very inviting - black and exposed brick walls. Our waiter Tyler was very good - attentive without being obtrusive, recommended items and was overall very nice. We also enjoyed everything we ate. The bread they bring you was very good. I can always tell what the rest of a meal will be by the quality of the bread and it did not disappoint. Our appetizers were great - calamari and the spanish influence - worth ordering. All enjoyed the entrees, esp. the sauces on the pork chop and the fish stew. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the food and the service."

  • "I've had some very good meals at Church and Main, and the waitstaff is friendly and efficient. When I've not been totally satisfied with a dish, they've been quick to offer me a replacement, or just quietly remove that item from my bill (which I've never asked them to do). There have been quite a few restaurants at this location, but Church and Main is the one I like best: the menu is varied and interesting (without being outlandish); the preparation is first rate; the interior is handsome--well designed, nice lighting--and comfortable; and the waitstaff, as I mentioned, is attentive."

  • "I had been to Church and Main many years ago. I don't remember it as a great place - just ok. So I was very pleasantly surprised to find the food much better than expected. I ordered the wilted spinach salad and the steak tartar and they were both very good. The spinach in the salad was not as wilted as I thought it should be but the salad was very good despite that. The other members of my party both had the salmon special which was reported to be very good."

  • "My husband and I decided on Church & Main as a prelude to our evening at the Flynn Theater. The calamari starter made with a light rice flour was excellent; not the typical deep-fried staple at most restaurants. For dinner I had the scallops. My husband had the stuffed portobello mushroom. We shared our meals. They were fantastic. For dessert I had the cheesecake. My husband, the salted-caramel ice cream. Cheesecake was so so. Ice cream was excellent (I had to have some of his). My husband had a tawny port with his ice creamto finish. Frankly, I was surprised that it was so good, as I had read some not-so-nice reviews along with those giving high praise. I highly recommend this place. We will be back."

  • "The food was disappointing- surprisingly tasteless eggplant parm, small portions and very high prices! Our waitress was pleasant but other waitstaff came off as arrogant and not very concerned with the impression they gave to the customer. I have had much better food in a nice atmosphere in Burlington. I wouldn't bother going back here - even for a beer!"

  • "Great food with interesting offerings. Local ingredients, always the best. Very good, friendly and knowledgeable service. Regarding reservations, you might want to call the restaurant directly. I was looking for 6:15-6:30, as we had tickets for an 8:00 show at the Flynn. Open Table only offered 5:45 or 7:15. I took the early one, but there were many tables still available at 6:45. Not sure what happened here, but you should definitely get a table whenever you can. You'll love it."

  • "We had a reservation for three people. We were inexplicably seated at a table for six, which felt very awkward. After asking for another minute to make out drinks decision (we had just been seated) we were left for 10 minutes before our waiter returned. At one point the waiter knocked one of my forks onto the seat and picked it up off the seat and put it back on my setting without offering a replacement (!). The lasagna was served on an awkward long wooden board that the server oddly jerked onto my wife's setting ramming everything else out of its way as if the bread plate was a bumper car. Lastly, when refilling water glasses he picked up each glass with his fingers by the rim of the glass. Gross."
