Both my friend's meal and mine were outstanding. I'd expected, "very good," but not outstanding, which it was. The wine, the meal, the dessert, the service... a great experience all the way around."

  • "The smoked trout salad was very tasty. The onion soup was a very dark color that struck me as unusual. The mussels were just bad. I love going to French restaurants and having mussels and fries, so I consider myself well versed on mussels. These were overcooked and there was barely any broth. We were there on mussels night, but selected one of the standard orders. They were bad. I'd be more inclined to go to Gamine down the street on Union. I probably wouldn't go back for dinner, but would come in for brunch (they seem to know how to do that better)."

  • "Choquet is a friendly neighborhood bistro with outdoor seating and a good vibe. We started with calamari, which was very good, and then had the sole, which was good but overwhelmed by its sauce, and the braised lamb, which was only average since you couldn't really taste the lamb as much as the sauce. We had a half bottle of chateau neuf du Pape at a fair price. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall, a decent neighborhood place but not worth going out of your way for."

  • "My date and I were delighted by Chouquet's, my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. We started with the butter lettuce salad, a nice way to whet our appetites. I had the evening's special, saute'd mahi mahi, with eggplant and tomato on saffron risotto. Mmmm! And my friend had the scallops, on which she remarked three times about how good they were. we were too full for dessert, so ended with a perfect cafe latte. And our server Natalie was a delight all through, attnetive but not at all intrusive. I'll be back!"

  • "When looking at reviews on Open Table we read comments like "Neighborhood Gem or Definitely Recommend" , , , but also some saying "Very Average or So-So". A weekend connoisseur of Eggs Benedict (wink) I ordered the Benedict ($13) the eggs were done perfectly, although a thin piece of Canadian bacon on an under toasted (chewy) muffin with the biggest culprit being the thin Hollandaise sauce with very little flavor. My wife ordered the Croque-Monsieur-(Madame with egg $14) this consisted of one THIN piece of bread, a SMALL piece of ham, Gruyere cheese and an egg, which also included a simple salad. The coffee ($2.50) was VERY weak. So we concur "VERY AVERAGE or SO-SO" and would not return. BEST PART = we paid online via Open Table & left."

  • "Chouquet's is a smallish place, but not too small -- cozy without being jammed or having people so close they can hear everything you say. The food is always just right, and the service is attentive but not overbearing. There is a covered outdoor seating area, which is not right ON Fillmore St, so not terribly noisy from traffic, but we prefer inside. Try it! I bet you'll be back."

  • "I'm pretty disappointed with what happened that night. The staff was great, but the food was really not good. My date had the beet salad and Vegetable entree on the pre fixe menu. The salad was decent but fairly flavorless and the entree came out cold. My beef tartare was ok, but lacked much flavor and my lamb came out like warm at best. The potato in my gratin was also under cooked. I'd come here once before for breakfast years ago and it was great. Don't know what happened, but the kitchen needs some help. I'm an SF native, I eat out a lot and I honestly wouldn't come back unless I heard of a revamp."

  • "Overall I definitely recommend Chouquet's. My friend and I were there for Dine About Town so we each got a starter, main, and dessert. The starters (trout salad and escargot) were both really good. They were cooked perfectly, and were a little different from what you might get at "any old French place". The main's were tasty too, but not as amazing as the starters were, which was the only reason I deducted one star. Then, the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream was amazing. I would definitely go back just for that! The service was pretty quick and the servers were all friendly."

  • "SanFrancisco for the weekend and thought we would eat in the Pacific Heights area. Found this on Open Table and reviews were good. Service was great the food was not good! My husband had the soup special and it had zero flavor. I had the onion soup and tuna tartar! The tuna so so spicy that the tuna had no flavor..were they trying to hide something? The bread and olives were delicious. It was abnormally warm so we were able to dine outside!"

  • "This is truly a neighborhood gem. The lady who greeted us and waited on us was outstanding -- very warm and customer-service oriented. My sole was excellent. Also, I ordered the Pouilly Fousse (sp?) and didn't care for it. She graciously replaced my glass with the Sancerre. My dining partner was not as crazy about her steak frittes, but she loved the restaurant and would return."

  • "Dined at Chouquet's for New Year's Eve and the chef put together a great four-course fixed menu. Enjoyed every course and especially the wine - Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Highly recommend Chouquet's for great dining. The service was very good and friendly but you need to ask for more bread if needed. If you dine in the evening and it's chilly be sure to not to sit near the door. It doesn't close properly and cold draft sweeps in."

  • "Out of 4 courses one was ok. The dessert was BURNT! Anyone sitting by the door had to get up and CLOSE IT. The staff was in chaos, they were dropping everything, and bringing wrong orders to tables including ours. Guests around us were also unhappy. Went home ate homemade food, popped champagne and watched the fireworks, SAVED the eve at home!"

  • "I had a fab experience at Chouquet's. Our group of 5 was well accommodated. The service was friendly and fun, took proper care of us, and were part of the experience in a very positive way. And the food? Excellent! We shared several appetizers, all of which were top notch. Onion soup was rich but not heavy and big mouthful of flavor. Escargot, not in shell, beautifully presented, tender and delicious (lots of garlic of course!) The muscles mariniere rounded out in fine fashion, a good sized order enough for all to share. I had the filet as a mains. Meat perfectly done, sauce perhaps a little too dominant for the meat. Wild mushrooms galore. St. Jacques perfect. Porc had my friend, a pork snob, drooling, sauce amazing. And desserts - mmmmm."

  • "This restaurant was pleasant and comfortable in a busy area of Fillmore street. It was dollar oyster night (Tues.) and they were delicious. The appetizers were very tasty and we had a great meal in a place that was quiet enough to easily have a conversation without raising your voice. The staff was excellent and the service very accommodating. It was very reasonably priced so you could have a nice dinner without breaking the bank!"

  • "Two large parties arrived about the same time as I. As a singleton, I was seated at the bar. No place to hang my coat, so I sat on it -- uncomfortable. Moules marinieres were good (only one mummy in the batch), but the accompanying frites were oddballs that looked like they might be out of the bottom of the bin. Not sure why the cuplet of catsup came with. The brown reduction on the rack of lamb looked like it would be savory, but it tasted flat, and the lamb itself tasted ... shelfworn. The suggested wine pairing was not smart -- a huge, puckery red that would have overpowered the delicate meat, had I stayed to finish either."

  • "Like the French food in France a very rich fare. Escargots buttery garlicky and cheesy, onion soup thick w onions and very beefy flavor, mousse pâté a bit soupy, filet de boeuf was perfectly cooked and like butter but the plate overall was cold, I hate the idea of heating an already perfect m rare steak, but the flavor was excellent! We got help w the wine selection and were very pleased w the choices. Over all an enjoyable if very rich experience! Oh yes the vanilla creme brûlée was magnifique!"
