  • "I'm a stage manager who travels almost weekly with Broadway type shows. Rather than eat at one of the national chain Steakhouses (Morton's, Ruths' Chris, etc) a group of us will look for a local upscale steakhouse to try. "Chops" fit the bill. Located across from the state capitol, it's an attractive atmosphere, with a good bar and very good service. Our problem was the steak menu was lacking. No rib-eye steak is on the menu at all and nowhere did it say beef was prime. Just corn-fed. Unusual for a steakhouse. Steaks are served with glazed carrots and your choice of potato or broccoli. The steak was nicely prepared and presented. Martini was excellent. Lack of menu diversity is why I would not recommend it."

  • "When we entered the establishment we found it to be quite loud with a 45's plus age group. I can only speak for my steak and lobster as I did not taste my husbands meal. My steak was ok, I've had better for this price. My lobster was rubbery, quite over cooked. Each bite that I took had a piece of shell in it so that I had to pick food from my mouth in front of all of the large group of people sitting directly in front of us. My husband said that for the price, his food was like a chain restaurants special."

  • "Open Table was used to book 2 tables for a dinner prior to Prom. Chops acommodated 12 high school students at one table and 4 adults at another table. The was excellent. They moved quickly and professionally and provided an excellent experience for our group of freshman. They were extremely accommodating with multiple changes to our reservation and had everything prepared when we arrive. From the people answering the phones to our servers that evening, the service was top notch. The food was very good and prepared individually for a few of our party members. Thanks Chops and Open Table!"

  • "Instead of going to my regular joint, Morton's, I decided to try Chops. What a mistake! Chops may charge like a high end establishment but it is far from it. Reminded me of a poorly run Hungry Hunter. Where do I start? Poor wine service was just the beginning. They opened the wine but didn't pour. We had to help ourselves throughout the night. Then came the overcooked steaks. The last straw was they ran out of potatoes! What steakhouse runs out of potatoes? Don't go, run away from Chops."

  • "Brian our waiter was courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. Chop's didn't have what was advertised. The substitute dish was not comparable, and at the end of the evening they couldn't even validate our ticket which they also advertised. We ordered the 'Dinner for 2' Porterhouse steak w/ two dungenese crabs cakes ($72). They were out of crab cakes (advertised $19 each). They substitued with a choice or soup or mixed green salad (@$8). We ordered Filet Mignon ($35) and asked for a Harvey's Bristol Cream to accompany the steak which they did not have. The final order, Smoked salmon linguini ($19). the meat was tender, but lacked flavor. The quantity was satisfying but lacked quality and the overall experience was poor."

Especially enjoyed that the place was not overly loud and we were able to talk without having to scream at each other. We would eat there again for a special occasion."

  • "From my side of the table the experience was enjoyable.Pleasant. I ordered the Pork Chops because it is a difficult thing to do well. So that having been said the bar was set a little high. The service attentive.The Ambiance cozy. The wine list at least the wines by the glass somewhat limited given our location to Napa.. The waiter did forget our 2nd glass until it was nearly time for us to leave. (the only thing wrong with the meal and a minor one.) But getting back to the Chop. It was a thick cut nicely presented but they brought out a utensil hardly capable of cutting toast much less this pork chop. The dull knife made the pork seem tougher than it really was having to saw the rather vigorously . However the chop was flavorful."

  • "We went to Chops back in the fall of 2011 and it was fantastic! Returned on Sunday, 2/16, for a late Valentines celebration. Oh, what a difference a couple years makes! We had a reservation at 5:15 and on arrival there was confusion and a short delay with seating us. The best part of the meal was the ahi poke appetizer, salad, sides and dessert. My main course was the top sirloin. It was over-cooked, tough and stringy. The only thing that saved the meal was my wife's prime rib which was good! The ambiance had totally changed since 2011. Our server, Tatiana, was very good. Probably won't return since there are much better steak houses in Sacramento and wouldn't recommend Chops to friends."

  • "We tried this restaurant for the first time with a living social voucher. The complimentary bread and spread are delicious. Crab cakes are delightful but portion is small. "Dinner for two" porterhouse was good but we realized we prefer the taste of a ribeye. Cocktails are delicious and strong. After a mix-up with boxing up our leftovers, we were generously offered a complimentary filet mignon and sides, on the house. Their apologies were more than necessary and sincere. The food is good but the service is truly what will bring us back again! Wonderful staff!"

  • "The restaurant was very crowded the night we went and the waitstaff was (by their admission) understaffed. It took forever to get any food - even bread. The waiter was overworked and very apologetic but that can only overcome so much. The Food was ok - not bad, but not great. I ordered the short ribs, which were touch and stringy, not falling-apart-tender, like they ought to be, and the polenta was lumpy. Overall, you'll have a better dinner and better dining experience at Ruth's Chris, and for probably less money!"

  • "My boyfriend and I enjoyed dining at Chops on Valentine's Day. We made reservations through OpenTable and had no issues being seated. I requested a quiet table and we got a nice booth in the back. We had a blood mary which was tasty and two other cocktails that were both very good. For appetizers we tried the trio of sliders (crabcake, beef, and pulled pork). The crabcake was crispy on the outside but warm and tender on the inside. It could have used more of a sauce though. The pulled pork was really good but the sauce soaked through the Hawaiian roll very quickly making it a bit messy to eat. The beef was flavorful and tasty. My boyfriend really loved the fillet mignon with bacon blue cheese topper. I had the lampchops good but a bit chewy"

  • "We went here for Valentines Day this year because we have always had a good experience here. The girl in the red/orange dress at the front desk greeted us with a half warm smirk. She seated us at a four top in the middle of 3 tables. We asked if we sit elsewhere, which she allowed us to do with hesitation, esp after a blonde girl behind the bar said we couldn't. Our server was kind and helpful. I gave service a 4 because the busboys/helpers were outstanding. Our food was not consistent with the food we've eaten before. Everything was SALTY! The calamari was soggy. They were able to bring my food out with my special dietary request, which I was pleased about. Overall, everything was just OK. I've eaten better, esp at this restaurant."

  • "Service was poor. Waiter was not available when needed, although he was a very nice guy. Maybe just stretched too thin. Food was cold. Two of the Six of us received incorrect orders. French Fries not Baked Potatoes. Steak was not blackened. The steak contained a lot of fat. The risotto was too salty. I'd heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and was excited to visit. I was very disappointed. This restaurant has a lot of potential, but didn't hit the mark, or anywhere close, on Saturday night. This restaurant is way too expensive for these sorts of problems. I would not go back."

  • "It's a really nice place - it's set up with lots of booths that give it a sense of privacy, which is nice. The service was excellent - our waitress was friendly but didn't hover, which is the way I like it. The food was decent - I had the braised short-ribs - the flavor was good, but quite fatty. The meat was swimming in WAY too much soft polenta ... I felt like I was dredging for the meat. My husband had the Filet Mignon - it was decent but not amazing ... a little bland. I had the American Beauty for desert - dark chocolate cake with chocolate mouse, and raspberry reduction - it was really good! My husband had the raspberry sorbet - great flavor but kind of soupy yet icy - strange texture."

  • "We had a 4 pm reservation which was unnecessary since the dining room wasn't seating for dinner yet. So we sat at the booths behind the bar. Service was attentive without being too intrusive as we were one of 3 other tables beside 3-4 folk at the bar. Drinks from the bar were quite well done. The ahi poke was quite good and a good value. The grilled vegetable appetizer plate was well done with a good assortment of grilled vegetables - artichoke(no heart!), asparagus with dipping aioli sauce that was okay. A bacon bleu cheese burger later we were ready to tackle a long evening in Sac."
