I went to Summer Winter with a friend during Restaurant Week. We both got the crab cakes. The food was excellent, but not filling enough for me. I wished I'd ordered something else like a sandwich. However, it was a nice experience overall.

The food was good with a different flavor for typical dishes (pasta with lobster and corn) and pulled chic quesadilla . However there was a little too much oil that needed. I enjoyed that lots of the veggies came from ther garden to give it a fresh and local taste. The bad was simply the service. Perhaps it was rest week but it started off bad right from the start. When we arrived the host/hostess staff simply ignore us for a good 5 minutes. Then we saw the hostess who seem to have seen us but then changed direction and walked away. When seated we were placed in the corner and felt neglected. I wanted to enjoy the experience but with very poor service I don't think I can return

I really enjoyed the cocktails there. The lounge area is nice and great for hanging. I personally didn't care for my dish(Trout), flaverless and bland. However other friends at the table seemed satisified with their choices.

We have eaten here before and thought the food was very good. This time it was a disappointment. Two of us started with oysters, which among the worst ones I had ever had. Also, the waitress had no idea which ones were which -- we ordered 3 different kinds. The seared (or raw, cannot remember) appetizer was paired with spices and accompaniments which only served to detract from the tuna, which would have been great on its own. The best part of the meal was the great sticky toffee pudding. When we ordered coffee, we were told that the Burlington water supply was contaminated, and there was no coffee. Later we found that most other restaurants had closed that night because of this. We should have been told about the water in advance.

Menu items are great but specials of the day are outstanding. Wait staff attentive but not a bother. My guest raved about the experience.

  • Worth a try

Summer Winter is one of the few very good restaurants in the Burlington-Woburn-Lexington area. (Andina, maybe Capitol Grill, Flatbread and Blue Smoke are just about it.) Since SW stands out so, you'd think there would be more than a just smattering of people there for dinner, but there never seem to be. My theory? Good though the food is, it doesn't justify the somewhat high prices, the menu is a bit stiff, and some people may be averse to going to a hotel to eat. These factors may contribute, but--given how weak the choices are west of Boston (well, in Boston as a whole)--it's definitely worth a try.

We sat at the bar for pre-drinks and the bartender happened to be our server from the last time we were there. She has a great personality and her service is excellent. When we got seated, the server (who were later told had been there for "years")obviously had too many tables. Me being a server for years knows that even if you are good, you can't give good service when you have too many parties. She rushed the dinner specials and flew away from the table when I asked her to repeat one. My boyfriend waited a while for his drink and by that time, we were irritated enough to move back to the bar where we had had better service. The manager apologized and we ended up having a great meal. The whole trout is my favorite, it comes with the head!

Great waitperson, who was personable and attentive. Tried to please me by getting me another lavender martini when I was not happy. Unfortunately the second was also unsatisfactory...too sweet, too much pineapple, not enough lavender. Food was good for a suburban hotel restaurant....the prices read Boston or New York. Fried trout was overcooked, steamed raspberry pudding was heavy...there are so many things one can do with raspberries!!!! Dessert menu was disappointing. Fried mussel appetizer was a bit unusual. Given the greenhouse, I expected more use of flowers, herbs and greens for garnish.

Because the restaurant is located in the Marriott, you have a random mix of patrons...a couple in jeans, a guy on his own talking on his cell phone...they seemed out of place for the decor and ambiance that the restaurant was trying to achieve. It was a quiet night due to the holiday weekend so I rated the service 3 stars because I thought the server could have been more attentive since there were fewer tables...although perhaps she was covering more tables as a result. The food was very good (almost clicked outstanding) and the restaurant is worth a visit.

We have dined at Summer Winter times and this was the least enjoyable. The food quality has slipped. While the Arctic Char was very good, it was not special; the linguine & clams was not special either and the clams were too big and the linguine was not cooked properly. I had asked 2 x for the aspargus to be served grilled and it came steamed. A gluten-free starch should be added such as basmati or brown rice.

    Rogene
    Dined on 8/27/2008
Generally speaking, I like this restaurant as I like its restaurant, MC, in Ogunquit. maine. They are of the same category. However, I was disappointed with their wine by the glass. I returned my Chardoney because it was bad. It was cordially and immediately replaced with something less expensive and it turned out to be a much better wine. I wonder if they check their wine by the glass before serving it to the customers. The other thing that I thought was a joke was the raw clam for $2.50 each. It was a tiny clam that is usually used for stir fry or pasta dish. I was expecting more like a cherrystone or one of those big clams...and the oysters for $3.50 each is not worth it. I can go to legal seafood nearby for these items. I'll go again.

Delicious and fresh! I've been looking forward to visiting this restaurant and I was beyond impressed. The food was fabulous and wonderfully presented. Service was friendly but a bit on the slower side, the hostess who brought us to our seat had a bit of an attitude though but our waiter was really sweet. The salad was so fresh as was the shrimp/mango escabeche. I tried the duck and the plank fish (monkfish!!) and they were great, as was the desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was a tad on the sweet side but delicious, and the semifreddo, I'm really excited to try the small bites and their lunch menu next time.

The ethos of this restaurant really appealed to us and the quality, presentation and taste of the food delivered. Sadly, our server was unattentive, rushed, and seemed scattered. We felt as though we were bothering her when we asked about the restaurant week menu. The staff who cleared our table were much more friendly and engaging. Unfortunately, poor service detracted from our rating of this restaurant. Not sure we'd go back again.

We went to Summer Winter as part of Boston Restaurant Week. The set menu looked interesting and started well with the heirloom tomato salad. However, the crust on the veggie tart was too tough to cut. In fact, the salad proved to be the high point of the meal. The fish dish was fair but the hanger steak was very tough. The seasonal veggies were fine. The deserts were disappointing; the chocolate cake was so-so, as was the fruit tart. The restaurant is set up to look out onto an enclosed herb/veggie garden, which provided a nice view. However, the restaurant smelled of chlorine, which may have been coming from the hotel swimming pool?
