Diner Reviews
  • "From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were blown away. Attentive service without being obtrusive, so many fabulous tastes and the décor was warm and chic at the same time. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "My husband and I went with another couple and I ordered pan seared scallops and they ordered salmon. All was perfectly cooked and delicious. The portions are not huge, but adequate. This restaurant seems to cater more to steak lovers. I was somewhat confused by the menu because they had sandwiches with french fries and yet are only open for dinner. This is NOT a cheap restaurant and seems to be trying to appeal to a more upscale crowd than the college kids when it was formerly Casey's. I would suggest removing the sandwiches and fries (cheapens the menu) and add a few other entrees Fish? Overall, it was a good experience. I really liked the atmosphere; nice decor, but not overly elegant, more beachy. The service was EXCELLENT!! Great staff."

  • "Remake of this property extraordinarily well done, Result is impressive and still contains a South County flair. Food flawlessly prepared and presented. Staff were efficient, friendly and professional. Will make this a regular stop."

  • "Charlie, after selling "Charlie O's" in sand Hill Cove and retiring, came out of retirement to open his dream of a higher end steak and seafood house in South County and renovated the old "Casey's" restaurant which had closed months earlier. He brought some of his best wait staff, favorite recipes, his sommelier, and a wonderful gift of hospitality to this venture. It truly is becoming the "place where everybody knows your name" and Charlie is setting the tone for that personally visiting each dining group and visiting with them. It is a bit more costly than the average full service restaurant in the area with a smaller menu than most but what is offered is excellent and worth the visit."

  • "There was no valet even though the website states they have valet until 10pm. No wait. Were given menus but had to ask for a beer/wine menu. Beer and wine list is rather lacking. Servers were prompt and courteous. Great ambiance. The restaurant has a cookie cutter feel to it, like a upscale applebees. Steaks were phenomenal. Very reasonably priced."

  • "I had high expectations for the new Chophouse Grill, but sadly, I was a little let down by my first visit. The food was just ok, nothing special, with the exception of the desserts, which were both very good. The server we had was friendly and efficient. However, our meals were brought out rather quickly, which made me feel a bit rushed. Overall, it was just an average experience. I don't know if I will be back there anytime soon."

  • "Ordered the $30 Filet Mignon and it came luke warm on a cold plate. Taste was good but would have liked it better if it was hotter. Sat near noisy bar atmosphere, tough to have conversation. Heard all neighboring conversations. This was my third visit here. First two experiences were better."

  • "Used to be Casey's -- that place was awful, bad food, bad service - these gentlemen have changed the look entirely - it is gorgeous with reclaimed wood and large beams throughout - so there is a touch of elegance within the rustic -- fantastic place and great food. Excellent service!"

  • "Dinner was excellent! The food menu itself is slightly small but the list of wines is great. Make sure you ask for tap water though or else you will be paying for bottled! Our food was cooked perfectly and our server was nice. You are given a small loaf of bread with a cinnamon honey butter prior to your meal which is a nice touch. The only thing that was a negative about our experience is that our server seemed to forget to bring us the bread so it arrived about 2 minutes before our meal and with the small table it felt like an overload. The bread was delicious dipped in the gravy that was in our orders though! And the bread was fresh and hot! We definitely will be returning. The valet parking is a nice touch!"

  • "The place was not as busy for a Sat due to storm outsides it was quieter than usual. We sat in a raised section that overlooked the bar and I could see it being hard to hear during the busier times. They do have other seating areas that should be quieter. Food was very good, salads were not over-dressed and the flavors were quite nice. I had a filet special, the meat was properly cooked to order, the polenta was not as smooth/creamy as I have had at other places. My wife ate scallops, tender throughout with a nice caramelization on the outside. Desserts were good, nothing extraordinary but the had a nice selection of classic steak house offerings. I would and will go back in the future"

  • "To start the bread was delicious and freshly baked. It was warm when they served it and the butter which was sweet melted right on it. We then ordered some shrimp cocktail and bacon. The shrimp where a decent size but were delicious and tasted fresh. The bacon was good too but could of been cooked a little longer for more crunch. Then for the meals we had a salmon and I was torn between the 12oz ribeye and the 20oz Delmonico but I figured I ate all the bacon and bread that the 12oz would do. It was cooked great to my liking (medium rare) and had a nice touch of glaze on top. Accompanying that ribeye came asparagus wrapped in bacon which was a great side to the steak. We also ordered mushrooms which we loved."

  • "The owners have done a great job taking this restaurant to new heights with the new beach themed decor inside. The bar was very lively and seems to have plenty of tables to service a crowd. Just be prepared, it is a bit pricey, not unlike many of the major Steakhouse restaurant brands."

  • "Absolutely wonderful food & service! Don't be fooled by the menu prices-----the portions of entrees and sides are WELL worth the money :)) The Saturday night crowd is loud. Will definately go back and try the Wednesday Prime Rib, other reviewers say its not as noisy. Give it a try and I beleive you will enjoy the food."

  • "Waitstaff at this restaurant has been meticulously trained to anticipate your every need even before you do and blend into the background when not needed. Food is always prepared exactly to your specifications. The fact that this is easy on easy off to route 1 makes this an easy find and a trip well worth making from Providence or New London."

  • "Overall very good but a little pricy for a restruant in an ocean community not by the ocean. We all liked our food (prime rib, swordfish, chicken picatta, brussell sprouts). I'd return for a special occasion."

  • "Second time to the Chophouse but first time on a Wednesday to enjoy the Prime Rib special. Reservation was for 5:30 which provided us ample time to enjoy a leisurely dinner. Our waiter responded and his pace matched ours. Onion soup was tasty, our prime ribs were cooked to our liking, and the sides complimented the beef. J Lohr Cab was matched well and our decaf coffee was fresh. Early dinner was enjoyable. We sat in the loft above the main bar and enjoyed its view of the bar, the large screen TV's, and the quiet action. This was much different than an hectic Friday. Chophouse is a great addition to South County."

  • "We both normally get steaks of some kind. On this visit I got the Pad Thai special and my wife got the Statler Chicken. Both excellent. The littlenecks were fresh and properly shucked. We'll remain regulars!"

  • "First visit to "the old Casey's" with two friends. Early reservation, but already a couple of tables occupied. When we left, place was mostly full, including bar tables. Loved the new interior. Concerned that table by window would be chilly, but was not. Menu offered something for each of us: soup and sandwich, salmon, bolognese. Server offered good info and accommodated special requests. She was attentive but not too; some might find it a tad slow. Food was judged tasty all-around. I did have to ask for sweetener for cappuccino. Overall evaluation: a bit expensive for regular visits but good for special occasion."

  • "This is our 3rd time at the ChopHouse Grill and each and every time we've had a great experience. The servers have been well trained and they, along with the kitchen make all run smoothly. The salads are good. The sausage app was very tasty but not the largest. The filet was perfectly cooked and the hamburger is one of the best I've had. The brussel sprout side dish was very tasty but could definitely be cooked longer to soften the spouts even further. The food is served very hot which is a pleasure. One of our new favorite places!"

  • "The Chop House should either chop the menu prices or serve better cuts of beef. Lesser quality of steak than Outback at Capitol Grill prices."

  • "Great menu, good wine list and excellent staff. A treat from the touristy overpriced and average quality restaurants of Newport. A bit loud but that's the great bar scene and customers commenting on the quality of the food & service. From apps to after dinner drinks, an excellent dining experience!"

  • "I do a lot of entertaining with my job. I recently took a customer to the Chop House and the night was great. The food and atmosphere was fantastic!! I had taken this same client to the Capital Grille and our experience wasn't nearly as enjoyable. I found that while the food at the CH was on par with CG, the atmosphere and the mood was more laid back and relaxing. I also liked the bar area, the flat screen TV's, as well as the draught beer selection. I felt as though the CH would be a great place to go after work for some drinks and appetizers.. It is a perfect mix of fine dining and casual hang out spot.. I look forward to my next experience!"

  • "First time to the ChopHouse Grille and played it conservatively. Skipped the appetizers, soups, salads, and desserts. Ordered steaks, one from the Entrees and the other from the Chophouse cuts. My wife had the 9oz Filet and I had the Boneless Delmonico. My wife, whose favorite cut is the Filet, ranked it behind Twin Oaks, the Providence high end steak establishments and her favorite from Spain. Our bill for the 2 steaks, one extra side, drinks(4), and the cappuccino was reasonable, a little over $100.00, excluding the tip. Decor is a dramatic change from the old Casey's and the three levels provide distinct atmospheres to dine, from energetic to a calmer space. Nice addition to South County. Try it now before the beach season."

  • "This place is ALWAYS full on the weekends and needs reservations for Friday and Saturday to avoid a 1-2 hour wait but the diner will find any wait worthwhile! Charlie is a visible presence throughout the evening and personally greets groups dining there. He is good with names and always greets us by same upon arrival. Although the menu is manageable (one large page) the offerings are alluring and we are often sorry there is not a sampler plate available."

  • "Great local hot spot. Saw article in RI Local Magazine and gave it a try. Wife and I split the tenderloin steak. Delicious! had the fried calamari to start off, very tender. Waitress could of been better. Never received bread after asking 3 times! Finally wrapped it up to go. overall, will return."

  • "The Chop House Grille in Wakefield has removed all need to drive to Providence for a great dining experience. If your looking for dininig excellence in food and service, you can now find it right here in South County ! The food was excellent and the service was exactly what you'd expect at a fine dining restaurant. The filet mignon was done perfectly to order, flavorful and just the right size. The shrimp are such that you don't need or order more than two or three - they are huge and dellicious. Will be back."
