A word from Chop West Edmonton - Stony Plain
Located just minutes north of West Edmonton Mall, Chop is at the intersection of Stony Plain Rd and 178th Street attached to the Sandman Hotel.

Executive Chef Andrew Keen has created a sumptuous offering of fish dishes using the freshest SEAFOOD selected from local West Coast fisheries. ARTISAN BREADS, and decadent desserts, like our signature Fallen Chocolate Souffle Cake are created by our baker daily.

  • "Steaks/prime rib for five out of six were all were underdone, some severely. Manager told us we should have spoken sooner and they'd have cooked them more. He also said that the kitchen was busy. Really? Busy is not an excuse. It's a steak house, they should know how to cook beef. His solution: complementary couples desserts—which were not what the dessert lovers in the crowd wanted. If you're going to comp people dessert, at least let them pick what they'd like. We won't be back. We've also told everyone we know not to bother going either."

  • "This used to be a favourite restaurant but it seems like every second visit is a bigger disappointment than the last. The mashed potatoes on my dish tasted like someone retrieved it out of stale dish water and the servers mixed up our orders and then no one came back to check on us to see if all was ok. Can't see me continue to pay good money for a hit or miss chance we'll get good food and service."

  • "From greeting at door till paying for dinner all staff were friendly and made you feel they were happy we chose Chop for dinner.Lorne was our server. Took time to explain menu , was very knowledge on same and made a great dessert suggestion. Best service we've had in a while in Edmonton area resturants."

  • "I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant, but I was very disappointed with our dining experience. There were 5 of us at a large table for 8 which made talking a bit difficult even though the section was empty. When our salads arrived, we had to ask for forks as all of our napkins came with only a knife. When our salad/soup dishes were removed from the table, so was our cutlery. The waitress brought us all steak knives, but when our entrees arrived, we had to ask, again, for forks. I had asked for my steak to be done medium well, with an emphasis on the 'well', but when it arrived, it was medium rare - it took 3 tries to get it right, and by then everyone else had finished eating. It was not a good experience."

  • "This was my first time at chop, the food was great! My girlfriend and I shared the lobster, scallop and gorgonzola dip as well as the spicy cashew snap peas both were awesome. I had the steak oscar which I ordered medium, it was closer to medium well but still very good, my girlfriend had the buttermilk chicken with the rice and she enjoyed it. For dessert we shared the trio all of which was great. Server was a little slow and unattentive but nice enough. We sat in the lounge so it was a bit noisy but that's to be expected. Overall very happy and will definitely be back!"

  • "Chop made Father's Day perfect! Service was wonderful. Food was wonderful. No one minds when you bring a little one in. The only complaint I can dig out is that the lighting is very irritating for a contact wearer. I should know by now to just wear my glasses when I go there!"

  • "Chop South is a favourite and I thought I'd try Chop West. The food was tasty but what really stood out was the service. Had an elderly relative with our group who is a major pain in restaurants but the waitress and manager handled her "allergy" superbly and professionally. They were so respectful and gentle and assured her that she didn't have to worry - they were taking care of it. I was impressed and she was so impressed that she behaved herself and didn't complain about a thing! First time in years!"

  • "We we greeted and taken to our table promptly. Place was not full, no noise, pleasant environment. Service was fast. As for food, mixed feelings. We ordered crab cakes for apps, and it turned out deep fried, and it wad breaded. Definately, not the crab cakes i was expecting. The rest of the food was very good, good presentation, colors and taste. Overall good place for occasional dining."

  • "Disappointing. Food was just OK. Our server however was excellent. Listened to our concerns and made an effort to deal with them. My husband's pasta dish was a lot firmer than al dente. My mussel dish arrived with some unopened mussels and the onion soup (ordered by a friend) was extremely spicy."

  • "Waitress was attentive and friendly. Also appreciated her warning about wasabi in the mashed potatoes. Went for the sweet potato fries instead. Filet mignon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Husband had the Baseball Sirloin and enjoyed it as well, says next time he'll go without the baseball though. :) Only complaint is that the lights are too dim, made it difficult to read the menu. Other than that, would recommend highly."

  • "Reserved online no problem. Got to restaurant were taken all the way to the back room overflow. Dark no ambiance loud music felt like we were in a dungeon. Service was fast but my friend had a big black hair on his plate. Food was just okay. The room is obviously used for large groups. There were only three if us. Can't tell you about the actual front of the restaurant as we only saw it as we walked through. Will not go back and will not recommend. 😞"

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Chop for dinner before going to a comedy show. We were one of the first tables in the restaurant so it was nice and quiet! Our waitress was very attentive. We ordered the beef carpaccio and it was amazing! I was nervous at first bit my boyfriend convinced me to try it and I'm so glad that he did! The beef is sliced so thin and seasoned so well! It comes with capers and red onions. Delicious! We each had a entree from the crab special menu and it was awesome! We split the Caribbean cake and it was lovely! Very coconutty!! Such a great meal! We will definitely come back!! "

  • "I went in on a Sunday with a group of 6 people and I had the braised beef ribs. They were very very tender and the tomato wine reduction was lovely. (It was my first time). The food for one of my friends arrived when the most of us were halfway through our food, but she did end up getting a complimentary dinner. As for service, our server took very good care of us. He checked up on us regularly made sure we had drinks. "

  • "One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had! I'm not usually on to complain.We chose Chop Steak house for a special graduation dinner. The four of us started by ordering drinks. My beer arrived in a cold glass but beer was only cool I asked if they had just changed kegs as this has happened before to me (no biggy) Then we ordered our meals... one hour later they finally arrived after several appologies from our server. Both my daughter and I ordered steak and a fully loaded baked potato. Both potatoes were cold, the steaks were at best luke warm. I asked for new potatoes. I had ordered my steak medium rare and when I cut into it I found it was rare almost blue rare. Both my daughter and I thought the steaks were tough. "

The portion size seemed smaller than expected for a brunch which left the men still wanting more (particularly the prime rib hash). One of us had the steak Benedict which was nice & tender so made us consider coming back to try a dinner."

  • "I enjoyed going to the Chop on several occasions for business dinners. Mother's Day brunch however was a disaster. There was only seven meals to choose from, none were appropriate for children. My eggs Benedict was just okay, my nine-year-old commented it was the worst meal she's ever had. The music was too loud and inappropriate for a Mother's Day brunch, we couldn't wait to get out of there. "

My wife has certain allergies and the manager as well the chef spent a little time to accommodate her needs. Mother's day was great and appreciate the food and services. Thank you guys for making that day especial. It even impress my mother-in-law. So therefore she was pleasantly surprise. "

  • "We had a wonderful meal on Mother's Day - even got a larger table than requested when we added another family member. Staff was attentive & helpful. Soup arrived cold but I didn't comment on that so can't complain. Waitress was particularly attentive with the children's orders. We all ate everything served; nothing to take home!!! Had a very enjoyable time & loved the round table that we got when the extra family member arrived. We wondered aloud if our granddaughter had received the amount of crab that she ordered and a head waiter was sent over to discuss the problem & offered more crab. After checking the plate again, we all agreed that she was incorrect in thinking she didn't receive enough. Plus, she wasn't hungry'"

  • "I took two very good friends to dinner. Since I was staying in a nearby hotel, I decided on Chop. One of my guests and myself ordered the prime rib. She selected the small size, medium. I went for the medium size and medium-rare. Hers was twice as big as mine and RARE. No potato on her plate. Mine looked like a slice of ham ( thin) and completely overcooked. Our server was no where to be seen. I finally caught her eye and asked for the missing potato ( we were now half way through the meal ). After we did finish eating what we had been served, the potato did arrive!"

  • "Had the large Roast Beef medium rare dinner. Meet was tough, even difficult to cut with a steak knife. I've eaten (several times) at Chop in Toronto on airport strip and the meat was far superior. I've eaten at Chop Edmonton Downtown and Edmonton South Side...service was better and more knowledgeable and not so rushed. We were a group of four...had to look for server to request drink refills. Ordered coffee at the end of meal...she never came back and asked if wanted a refill. Got the impression she was rushed or rushing us or was really indifferent to our needs. Sorry...but that is the way it felt. "

  • "The food was great. She took our appetizer order that came out before she even took our dinner order then when we were finished dessert she asked us if we wanted anything else. We said no and it took her another half hour to bring the bill and only after she asked us for a second time if we wanted anything else. It was much too long to have to wait for the bill."
