  • DineOut Fails to Impress

We reserved with CHOP Steakhouse as part of DineOut Vancouver. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the DineOut menu looked enticing. The food however, failed to impress us as it should have for this occasion that is designed to solicity future business. The appetizer soup was lukewarm. The portions were small and the steak not done as requested. We were allowed to choose either vegetables or potato with our meals. Dessert was served in a demi-tasse that provided a miniscule serving. It felt as if the restaurant did not want to go to any expense for our meals.

I found that for a place that you expect to be a pleasant dining experience this place lacked that feeling. When people come dressed up in track suits, and far too many children there. This restaurant appears to be trying to attract the same clients as the Keg and it falls short. The reason I came here is because I had been given a gift certificate, if it wasn't for that I would have been sadly disappointed.

I went for dine out and the 3 course meal was a perfect combination of variety and flavour. The staff was attentive and I enjoyed seeing all levels of staff from the front staff, management and even the chef helping out and serving food -- checking up on you to see if you are fine and need anything. They really know how to make your experience memorable. It was so busy but the high level of service did not get effected throughout our meal. I will definitely come back again and have been here previously for a large group birthday celebration. They have private rooms to accommodate large groups. Love it!!

  • My Daughter's First Birthday

I made a reservation for a party of 12 a week ahead for my daughter's one year party. I specifically specified a baby friendly room with room for stroller and high chair. However, when we arrived, we were brought to a separate room in the lounge area where the music was extremely loud. We also had to ask twice before anyone bothered to get a high chair for us. It was also dine out at Chop so we understood that they were busy, but to take 45min for bread to come and 1.5 for the food to come, that was a bit ridiculous. I usually love the food at CHOP but I was disappointed with the quality. Soup was almost cold, and dessert, my usual favourite of rum cake was also cold ( not counting the ice cream).

I made a reservation for Chop as part of Dine Out Vancouver. The menu looked good but being that it was part of an airport hotel and a chain, I wasn't expecting much, to be honest. Very pleasantly surprised. On arrival we found two different menus, one for $28 which was 3 course, and one for $38 which was four course. Two of us went for the $38 menu and were very happy with every aspect of our meals. I did fund some stuff was under-seasoned, but there was salt on the table so that was easily fixed. The service was excellent: Blake was non-intrusive but thorough, and when I sent my drink back as being too spicy they immediately brought me a new one that was less spicy. The desserts were divine! I will definitely be back.

We came to the restaurant as part of the Dine Out Vancouver promotion. We arrived at the restaurant in time for our reservation and with little acknowledgement from the hostess for the delay, we were made to wait 10 - 15 minutes for our table. We decided to go with the more expensive menu, which came with a soup, starter, entree and a dessert. The wait for the starter was a bit longer than normal but the Shrimp and Crab cakes were well done. Afterwards, several of us ordered the Prime Rib and when they were delivered to the table, the servers did not know which was medium well and well done. This was disappointing as you would think they would know. Also, we had to ASK for the soup and dessert. Food was good but service was very poor

The food and service was fantastic but there were quite a few small children and a baby crying in a table not to far from ours. I think if the restaurant advertises BAR you don't expect to hear a baby's crying. The inside decor was so nice, very much like a bar or high restaurant setting so it was very surprising to see a baby.

We went for the Dine Out Menu and found they had two - a $28 and a $38! The food was room temperature and adequate at best. The portions were tiny and if you ordered the sirloin you had to order vegetables seperately! For $28 I think they could have afforded a few veggies on the side (especially on a dine out menu)! The mini Caribbean Rum Cake was the only highlight of the evening. The ambient lighting was ok, however, not when you're in the powder room trying to do your business. The service, though friendly, was disjointed and slow. Overall we found it disappointing and not to the high standard one would expect. Our recommendation - go to the Keg!!

Bad experience at overbooked restaurant that left my family waiting over half an hour. we were offered self serve wine from a table of discarded glasses left by other patrons, and asked if we could make do with a table for 4 to seat a party of 5. service really was subpar by any standard. The server did not clear our table even as she passed by empty handed and when she did clear the table, everyone was expected to pass everything to and fro down each side of our seats each time. It became quite a disruption and not what I would expect from any restaurant. The servers were inexperienced or simply unmotivated. I gave her a reasonable tip anyway as I feel it has more to do with management, poor training, and understaffing than the individual.

Every step of our Dine Out experience at CHOP was perfection. The greeting, the ambience, the interplay with the server and staff, and, of course, the food was calibrated to make us feel special and valued rather than like discount diners. The 12oz prime rib ($38 menu) was too much food (rare for a Dine Out experience)! We would, and will, dine there again. The whole team really makes the restaurant a special experience, and the food is delicious!

This was second time in Chop. We returned coz of the good experience of the first time visit. We tried the prime ribs and maple bourbon blackened haddock on the dine out Vancouver menu this time. My fish was a bit hard outside but kind of juicy inside and it's acceptable for me. If they could cook the outside crispy instead of hard that would be perfect for the fish. The wild rice on side was delicious. My husband's prime rib was chewy. The worse thing was the mini rum cake dessert. Cake taste nothing but sweet. It made my stomach acid reflux after the dinner. It's a ruin of the dining experience.

After being seated, waited for 15 min for anyone to come by with water and take drink order. Finally asked a bus person who our server is.. She wasn't not quite sure, but she took our drink order. ( I also asked for water).. 10 minutes later our drinks arrived with our server, who wasn't quite sure we were even seated. Still no water, asked again. Order was taken at this point.. Soup and starter came out quick, within 5 min. Entre came along 20 min later, and tasted as served from an assembly line. We watched other patrons around us recieve service that we should have gotten. Not pleased with the food quality, nor the service!

Dineout Vancouver! Wife and Son had prime rib and it was as advertised and expected although needed more seasoning and the au jus was a little flat and sparce. I had braised short rib and it was dry. It appeared to have been left under a warming light too long as the sauce was dried out and thick, pasty. Somewhat disappointing. This reflected the inconsistent service at some level. The restaurant was busy that night, and our entree's took a long time to come out. Desserts were fine, and just the right size for a heavy meal. Suggest that the set menu have a simple salad option alongside the soup so people have a choice. The overall experience wouldn't necessarily make me want to recommend, but willing to give it another try later.

I always want to try out this place because it was very noticeable on Bridgeport Road. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night around 7pm, the place was not full. The noise level was moderate. The atmosphere and the surroundings were very grand. I had the Top Sirloin and he had the NY Striploin. Both tasted alright but was a bit hard and we had steak before that would be close to melting in your mouth without chewing. We also had the clam chowder, caesar salad and mac and cheese. Those tasted well also. Overall, the experience was good.

when called about reservation to confirm address the person I spoke to on phone was rude and no helpful at all. The directions to the restaurant were "we are close to the airport" and when asked if there was parking close by was told yes, park anywhere. Very abrupt. Was put in the lounge and not in the restaurant and could not even order a drink for probably 15 to 20 minutes as the servers in lounge seemed more interested in their conversation then serving anyone. Once seating in the dining room the service was terrible also, waitress was very unfriendly, never came around to ask how dinner was, if we needed more drinks etc. Our dinner plates were taken away, were never asked if we wanted a dessert menu, coffee etc.
