Chop South Edmonton - Ellerslie Rd is located on Ellerslie Road, just a few minutes south from South Edmonton Common and Southgate Shopping centre. Chop is attached to the upscale Sandman Signature Hotel, just off of Calgary Trail. TODAY'S STEAKHOUSE. For the steak lover, Chop steaks are aged a minimum of 28 days and cooked in a specially designed oven that cooks at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit for incredible flavor.   • "We enjoyed our experience at Chop South very much. The food was very good (almost better then The Keg I would say). We all had beef of some sort and it was perfectly cooked. The prices are very comparable to The Keg. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be. Our server was very helpful in explaining the menu and how we should order our meat to be cooked to our liking. The crab cake appetizer was delicious and the soup and salad that we had was also very tasty. We took my 82 year old mother with us and she found the music a little loud to be able to hear. When we asked them to turn it down a little they had absolutely no problem doing that and it was immediately looked after. Would definitely go back."

  • "If we do it again, I would choose a private room or go at a less busy time. I requested a "quiet conversational table for four," so this was a surprise. This restaurant is huge and hugely busy! It was way too loud for our tastes. The food was okay. My husband's steak was too underdone (barely rare, and he asked for medium), yet he did not send it back so we did not really give the kitchen a chance to re-do it."

The keg has the same pricing but I feel like I get my moneys worth at the keg. I didn't feel I got my moneys worth at Chop. Overall I would return but would pick the keg over Chop"

  • "From the time I made the on-line reservation, it was apparent that this restaurant chain truly understands "how to treat their clientele". The reservation process was easy, they followed-up with an (e-mail) reminder and even took the time to contact me on my cell phone to let me know they were looking forward to serving us on the on the day of the reservation. Now that's customer service! The atmosphere was GREAT, the food was DELICIOUS and the service was SPECTACULAR! The whole experience was nothing less than AMAZING!! Thank you Chop South Edmonton!"

  • "We ordered Caesar's to drink and they were the worst Caesar's ever. I could have made better ones at home. Overall the food was good but it was overpriced for what it was. I probably won't return because of the price and the fact that we weren't wowed by anything."

  • "We had gift certificates for Chop and chose the South Edmonton location. Our reservation was for 7:15 on Saturday and we arrived there at 7:20. We were not seated till 7:40 which begs the question................Why even bother reserving? There were other patrons who also had reservations and had to wait. Once we were seated the rest of the evening was great. The service was awesome with attention to detail. They just need to fix the reservation issue and it would be a great spot."

  • "After reviewing the menu on-line, it beckoned. We could appreciate the potential of the vision, but execution seemed to fall short. Servers/staff - friendly and helpful. The concept of providing the additional 'experience' seemed like a not-so subtle cash grab for items that should actually be part of an entree at that price point. The entrees were just ok, not great. Edible and not wow - foodies may be dissappointed, which is a shame given the intriquing menu. The dessert trio is a great idea and was tasty - better than the entree in quality and presentation, but not 'wow!'. Not sure if we would try this restaurant again, given the plethora of restaurants in Edmonton. However, this is the first and only experience thus far."

  • "I recently dined at the Chop on Ellerslie on a Saturday night, having been there before I knew full well that it was going to be busy so I booked ahead. We arrived 2-3 minutes after our set reservation and were told to wait a few minutes, no big deal. Forty five minutes later we were asked if we just wanted to sit in the lounge as the dining room would be even longer to wait, we reluctantly agreed, having had a quiet dinner in mind, then the hostess lead us to a dirty table in the lounge, plates and dirty napkins all over the table. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come clear the table and about 20 for anyone to bring us menus or take drink orders. Very disappointing! What is the point of booking a reservation??"

  • "My husband and I had the wedge salad. It used to include a few slices of regular tomato. Saturday's had lots of lettuce and maybe 1 1/2 cherry sized tomatoes cut in little wedges. Were they running out of tomatoes or is it the cost? My filet was not cooked enough, I asked for medium, it was pretty rare. The server did offer to take it back but then my husband and friend would be finished eating by the time I got it, so my husband gave me some of his well cooked Prime Rib. He had asked for medium as well. The rest of the meal was okay but it was not up to your usual standard."

  • "This was not our first visit, but this time the food/service was not as good as it usually is. We both had steak and mine was over cooked. My husband enjoyed his. Our waitress seemed a little flustered or something..whereas the times we were there before we had excellent service. Maybe because it was so busy? Don't get me wrong, the food was still good, the service was "good", just not excellent as it has been. We will go again, hopefully it will improve. - be sure to make a reservation."

  • "I had heard good things about CHOP so I decided to try it for my birthday dinner. Our server was wonderful, he was the best part of the experience. The food was good, not amazing but good. Everything came out properly and in a timely manner. There was a incident where the fir alarm was set off, our server was quick to let everyone know that there was nothing to worry about and that cause was from the attached hotel. It was extremely loud and went on for a very long time, next time I think I would go to the Keg."

  • "We were a group of five and every aspect of the dining experience was superb. The appetizers: Spicy Snap Peas, Crab and Shrimp Cakes and Onion Rings were quickly devoured. Entrees were as diverse: Pancetta/Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken, Lobster Fettucine, Steak Oscar, a Filet and a Steak and Lobster. All amazing dishes, zero changes needed here. With little room for dessert, we shared the Petite trio which includes the Caribbean Rum Cake (my favorite), Raspberry Creme Brulee and Fallen Chocolate Souffle Cake ... a wonderful finish to a fantastic meal. A visit by the head chef and his interest in our experience was refreshing. This has catapulted to the top of our dining venue list ..."

My wife had the prime rib and said it was one of the best she had ever had which is really saying something because we have tried the prime rib at many places that specialize in it. I chose the rib eye which was also amazing. We both had the "Chop Experience" which includes soup or salad, potato choice and veggies. We both had the house made ceaser, my wife had a baked potato asparagus, I had the infused mashed potatoes which were a great choice and I recommend them. I also had the house veggies. We both got a baked tomato that we weren't expecting and it was very good too. Chop was a great from the time we entered the door and it was an excellent food experience. We will be back!"

  • "Firstly, let's say that my wife's meal was awesome. I, however was not so lucky.ordered the prime rib. It was as I had ordered it, medium rare but was served on a textured plate (ribbed) which made it impossible to cut. I found myself sawing through the prime rib which was a little on the tough side but most of the issue surrounded the plate. Also, no bowl of au jus was provided so the prime rib was stone cold by the time I got to the end of it. Suggest they include a bowl of steaming hot au jus so that one can warm the nearly rare meat. Being cold, and a little tough, the final bites of my meal were a little off-putting to say the least! Service was excellent though, will give them another try, but will never order their prime rib again."

It was the evening after Valentine's Day, and I noticed they had valentine cards in the men's room, provided for patrons who might have forgotten. Nice touch. We had dinner and as a group sat and talked till closing time. No one made us feel unwelcome or tried to move us along."
