  • "For how expensive it was it defiantly was not worth it. If you go out for dinner a lot and want somewhere dim lit and dress up then sure- try it. But if it's a special occasion or you don't get out to nice restraunts often and your looking for a treat I do not recommend. We thought our steak from Safeway and Costco were much tastier and for a much less cost. Everything was only just alright, but I would recommend the French onion soup!"

  • "The food here was very tasty, very overpriced. The portions were tiny for a 30$ steak, and they came with a small side( 4 2 inch long vegetables) and the food came out rather cold than piping hot the way a steak should be. One thing I had a problem with were the price of the non alcoholic drinks. A juice with raspberry syrup was 4$!? The lighting in the 2 nod floor restaurant was very sub par, and they didn't have any candles when we asked. The upstairs was very quiet, which my group liked, however it was lacking a bit of vibe. Overall7/10"

  • "I took my wife to Chop for a final night out before our 2nd child arrives. We were a little bit confused when we first walked in because we had never been there before and the restaurant is actually upstairs. After that, however, we were greeted by a super friendly hostess. Our waitress was in training but you never would have noticed unless she told you. She knew the menu very well, professional yet personable. They regularly checked our table without being annoying about it. I got the prime rib Chop experience with the wasabi infused mashed potatoes and it was amazing. My meat was cooked perfectly. We got coffee, the chocolate souffle cake and creme brulee for dessert. We were a little bit disappointed by the dessert however."

  • "Very good crab tacos with ponzu vinaigrette and wasabi aioli, Caesar salad, mashed potatoes, and lemon curd dessert. A really tough piece of sirloin, frozen king crab, and a nice piece of ahi served too cold. OK carpaccio with capers that someone in the kitchen had thoroughly rinsed all the brine from, wtf? I put some of the ponzu vinaigrette on it, and that helped. Undercooked carrots, and how exactly is zucchini in March a seasonal vegetable? We shared the experiences of others who had plates left on the table and not enough cutlery brought. The waitstaff is pleasant and willing and all of them are extremely good looking, and the service s very swift. The noise level is fine, and I like the big coppery globe lamps."

  • "Been here 2x and both times service and food were great. Only complaint is it gets loud when there is a lot of conversation but not extreme. I took my daughter there before going to the Citadel and tge children's menu was very good and she felt special there as the staff treated her courteously which was noted by me. They even suggested a mocktail she enjoyed."

  • "restaurant manager was very hospitable who purchased first round of drinks as table wasn't ready. Waiter was very friendly but disorganized. We asked for wine but he forgot, showing up only when we were done with our entrees. The initial offering of water, bread etc was overlooked. We asked for coffee three times before it arrived. Positive attitude and energy does not make up for poor/neglectful service. Fortunately food was good as was value."

  • "This restaurant is overrated. The main room is long and skinny and all booths. There was constant traffic by our table of the numerous wait staff coming and going (not sure where they were going to or why so many had to be going by). Way too many waiters and other employees for the number of tables and diners. Food was passable, but the overall experience was unpleasant. Also, the employee who seemed to be the only one entrusted with the credit card machine hovered over us as we completed the transaction--that should never happen."

  • "This was our first time to Chop. Although we made reservations we decided to stay down in the lounge after talking to the hostess. Our Server was great and the lounge area is a nice atmosphere to dine in. Our favorite item of the night were the white Sangrias. They were excellent! However the food just made average. The main reason for this is that all three of our courses came out luke warm at best. It's like they were plated and then sat there for too long but they weren't that busy for that happen and the service was fast so I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen."

  • "For the high prices of meals ranging from 30-40 each you would expext decent service. Not here. A group of 9 of us were seated comfortably but when our food came. Issues constantly arose. 8 soups. Only 4 spoons brought to the table. 2 tiny 6 inch loaves for 9 people. No steak knifes provided until all 9 people had their food. Making diners wait 5-10 min with the food just sitting in front of them. Water never refilled. Plates not removed until end of meal which left clutter and no space to eat without difficulty. I expect to have cutlery when served my meal. Several diners only recieved spoons after eating their soup with a fork bc wait staff took too long when asked. It was funny but not necessary."

  • "It was a busy evening and the staff were still very attentive to our table of 4. The restaurant is very narrow and very noisy. We each chose a different entree from the Edmonton Dining Week Menu and can say, other than the Halibut being a bit bland, the beef choices were wonderful! The Butternut Squash soup was very good, the shrimp and crab cakes were okay, however the steak bites were sooo salty I personally could not eat them. The two dessert choices were very good and the bread served to our table was great. Overall, I'd say we would probably not return but our guest would."

The $25 specials were excellent and the service provided by our waiter, Michael, was professional and friendly. Although it was a considerable distance for us to travel, it was a very worthwhile evening. We are pleased to have discovered this lovely restaurant."

  • "A little hard to find the entrance to the restaurant which is upstairs BTW, but the food was good and the service excellent. I had the chop salad which was really good and my friend had the steak sandwhich which again was really good. We got there about 11:45 AND it got super busy around noon so I'd recommend you get there before noon to get in and out fast."

  • "We arrived at 5:30 with the idea of having a relaxing dinner before going to the theatre at 7:30. We had a very tasty meal with salad (just finished), then our entree arrived followed by dessert and coffee. We finished our entire meal in 1 hour. As a result of being finished an hour earlier than expected we stayed for another glass of wine. I would suggest that the waiter relaxes and allows patrons to at least have a relaxing meal and enjoy their evening."

We were given 3 teaspoons and 1 tablespoon to eat our shared dessert. The food, although tasty, came to our table cold. We won't be back."

  • "I have been to Chop downtown several times. I have noticed a decline in the quality of food. On this vist, I ordered a Chop burger and a side salad. I found the that the burger patty was very soft and lacked real flavour and the salad had about one inch of dressing in the bottom of the bowl when I was done. The salad was so greasy that I was unable to finish it. On a good note, the desert trio was very good. Another positive note is that you are alwys able to get a reservation, even at very short notice. Hopefully this restaurant can turn thingsd around, or I feel it will be another Edmonton failure."

  • "With a family of 6 we do not get out often, my brother gave us a gift card for CHOPs. When we got to our reservation we were placed in the lounge, the people weren't noisy but the music was much too loud, we couldn't have a decent conversation. We wanted the dining room and was told we were getting the lounge only. The waitress was great but was quick to point out that they had another reservation for our table for 7:15. The food was good nothing really great. We felt rushed to eat our meal and I felt totally uncomfortable there and on the ride home. Had to hike to get to the bathroom on the second floor. This was to be a special night not just because it was valentines but because the day before we had known each other for 14 years."

The service was very good, although our waiter seemed to have a large number of tables to look after so didn't get to us as frequently as we expected. The food was excellent and the ambience is very nice. The only negative comment I would have is that the lighting is extremely poor and makes it difficult to see the menu."
