Diner Reviews
  • "Not quite sure Chop has earned its "fine" dining ribbon yet. The atmosphere is trendy, upscale and the bar attracts an electric crowd. Chop could use a few lessons from places like Shula's in terms of service and presentation. I found if you are a regular, the staff is overly welcoming and checks frequently on your satisfaction. This was our first time and we barely got noticed waiting too long for drinks, someone to take our order and for the final presentation of our check. We sat directly at that bar so I saw no real reason for not being acknowledged in a more timely manner. Food was average and presentation very sloppy for a place billing itself as "fine" dining."

  • "We went for dinner and found it was too noisy due to the bar noise. The food was good, the service was good, and ambiance was good, but all of it was overwhelmed - for us - by the 'vibrant bar.' It was a nice bar!"

  • "Enjoyed the atmosphere and welcoming attitudes of all personnel. Helpful, with humor and attentiveness."

  • "The steaks did not compare to the big boys like Flemings, maestros,Ruth Chris, Shulas but were good. The salads, sides and bread were all average. Steaks are esy the sides show the creativity and style of the chef. These had neither. Texas toast and only one triangle each did not win us over."

  • "They have a special on Thursday for two which was excellent. The choices plentiful and the main course huge. We had the ribs which are excellent. $ 44 great value for all the things you get. Romantic bar atmosphere."

  • "We had a reservation for 6:30 pm for a party of 4. We arrived on time and our table was ready. They serve home made like bread with honey butter when you arrive. My wife had the Chicken Satay and a Caesar Salad as her meal and loved it. I had the double cut pork chop. I am a pork chop guy and I have to rate this one right up there with the best. Also the slaw they serve with it is addictive. The other couple had the same as we did and loved theirs too. We had a couple of bottles of Planet Oregon Pinot and went home with a doggy bag and were pleasantly blotto. The server did an excellent job."

  • "Excellent dining experience!! Only complaint (small), the pork chop was a little undercooked!!! Definitely recommend this one!"

  • "Delicious mac and cheese with crunchy bits of bacon and penne pasta. Steak was very well done and flavorful. The only downfall for me was that the restaurant was so dark. I don't recall seeing any windows at all and I don't like feeling like I am in a cave. They do have a nice patio seating so when the weather is good, I will most likely prefer to sit outside."

  • "The restaurant was a bit too dark. I had to turn on the flashlight from my phone to tell if my steak was cooked properly or not. Also, our waitress serviced 2 other tables multiple times before waiting on us & we had to ask for table bread. Food was good but not worth the price. We will not be back."

  • "There were 4 in our group, and we each ordered different entrees, and shared the tastes. All of us raved about our choices and were more than satisfied. The signature dish of the huge grilled pork chop is a must try even if you've never ordered a pork chop in a restaurant before. We'll definitely be returning to this find."

  • "I really like the ambience but the music was too loud for the mood they were trying to convey. I liked my caesar salad but not used to having capers in it. I liked the spaghetti squash but I thought there was too much arugula in it and also capers. The chef must like capers. I got the trout. Nice presentation but the almonds should have been slivered and not the type you would put on a hot fudge sunday. My friend got the sword fish. It was kinda mushy and not firm like I would think normal swordfish would be. I thought it was also under-cooked a bit. We like the creme brulée."

  • "I recently took a four customers here for dinner and it surpassed almost all of my expectations. All of our entrees were perfectly cooked including a rare filet, medium prime rib, scallops, etc. The wine list is spectacular' the ambiance was perfect with light music that added to the evening without overpowering our conversation and the server was delightful. The only nitpicks I do have is that the check was just dropped off without our server asking if we were finished or wanted coffee or dessert which ended our night a bit abruptly and they added gratuity on a party of 5. I would have tipped 20% so it didn't bother me at all. I look forward to bringing others in the future and will ask the server to offer after dinner drinks/dessert."

  • "Since I had a reservation thru Open Table I did not expect to get seated next to a bored 2 year old (this is not a kid friendly atmosphere) right next to the front door. They were not crowded and I expected a better table choice. Upon request they did re-seat us. We ordered the Calamari which had a very nice light coating on it but the calamari was like eating rubber bands, very chewy. It did get better with our entrees, I had the prime rib medium rare and it was cooked perfectly, very tasty. My husband ordered the ribs which were absolutely black and crusted on the bottom but beautiful on top, the side that is presented. Our waiter was very efficient. The kitchen seemed to be having an off night but we'll be back."

  • "Our waiter was very attentive and we never felt neglected. We began by ordering two White Zinfandel, but they didn't stock it. Another white wine was suggested, and it was alright. The shrimp coctail had a very spicy sauce. Some might think too hot. I had the ceasar salad thats dressing wasn't to my taste. Our dinners were cooked just as we had requested. I had a NY Steak and my wife had halibet. The food was satisfactory, but not what we expected for the cost."

  • "I love CHoP. Excellent food and very good customer service. But this day marks a sad moment for me and my wife. I planned a dinner date night with my wife on Monday because of CHoP's specials on Prime Rib. When we got there and instead of sitting us in a booth, we got seated next to the bar...high chairs. OK? Next, when it was time to order the waiter tells us, "Sorry but we are all out of Prime Rib." :( Stab to the stomach. Seriously? You let my down CHoP. Instead of Prime Rib night, my wife got her usual Pork Tenderloin and I tried the special Swordfish...and a side of their delicious mushrooms, yum. Let's go CHoP! Redeem yourself next time we come and please, stock up on your Prime Rib."

  • "BI new york was terrible quality didn't even render the fat on the side of the strip. Veggie side was undercooked broccoli with cheese sprinkled on it. Server obviously got cut and never came back. Drinks and water took 10 minutes to hit the table, and the only time a server touched our table after food was dropped (for the second time because of problems with burger) was to pick up plates that were 3 quarters full and to drop the check.Good luck guys I hope it gets better than this."

  • "Very intimate seating - romantic. Great service! Be sure to try the namesake Pork Chop - very moist and tender. Loved the coleslaw! Steaks are very good but beware - 'medium' is 'well'. Mac 'n Cheese was very bland as my significant other put it, but very cheese - just needed something to set it off. Green beans were fresh and crunchy. The tomato basil soup had a very nice heat to it, creamy and very rich in tomato flavor. Very busy for a Tuesday night!"

  • "We love Chop so it wasn't our first time. We met friends on a Monday night to get together for a nice chat. We were really surprised to see Prime Rib on the menu. It was excellent. One friend had the special pork chop and thought it was out of this world. One had the cheese burgers which are terrific and one had a dinner shrimp salad. Everyone left feeling wonderful. Our lady server was not attentive and the only reason it wasn't a perfect score."

  • "We were very disappointed in our experience with Chop. The noise level was so bad -- we asked to be moved twice and was still very loud. We couldn't even have a conversation with each other. I also feel that if you are spending some good money on dining out, you should have a tablecloth on all tables. Our expectations were higher than what we got. Sorry, but probably will not go back."

  • "We really enjoyed our wedding anniversary at Chop. The waiter was extremely nice and good. The food was excellent and the wine recommendation was very good and I enjoyed it also. Actually, we were extremely pleased with everything. We have recommended Chop to many of our friends and they have enjoyed Chop also. I didn't think Chop was open for lunch, but according to the above recommendations, I need to check into that."

  • "My husband and I frequented many restaurants over Memorial Day weekend! Chop was one of our fav's! We ordered from the set price menu and it was amazing. My husband had the rib eye and loved it. I had the trout. Delicious. From the wine to dessert it was a hit! Service was fast and our waitress Lauren was super friendly. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We needed a place to go before a concert at Wild Horse Casino. This was a romantic, classy restaurant. I loved the cocktail menu and had the Berry Cup Cocktail which was so delicious and full of fruit. Our appetizer was a grilled artichoke that was brushed with butter and had a great aoli sauce to dip the leaves in. My husband and I both wanted to go "light" for dinner, so we both enjoyed a steak salad...just the right size and meat temperature. Great meal, nice server and in and out of there in under an hour. "

  • "Went as part of Restaurant week. Had the hand cut prime rib. The steak wasn't the best I've ever had but was very good. The only real complaint were the sautéed mushrooms. They make them very sweet. Almost candied. To my wife and I we found them very off-putting. We spoke with the waiter and he graciously took them away and brought us some green beers which were very good. Overall a good experience. We'll definitely go back."

  • "My friend and I walked in with a reservation from OT. Nothing was available at that time so we headed to the bar. It was until the hostess sat someone who came right after us without reservations that we got a bit anxious and upset. Once we were seated, our server was lovely. She offered us bread and was able to get the wines we order included with our Restaurant Week selections. For the starter, we both had the corn chowder soup. I ordered the rib eye which was very good - nice, marbled, nice sear. My friend ordered the trout was was also very tender and full of flavor from the spices. For dessert we order the pecan tart and the creme brulee. I like the creme brulee better, but both are tasty."

  • "Restaurant Week visit on a Monday, darkest place I've ever stepped into. Service was good, server had a shadow and discretely trained with no lag. Had concerns about the RW menu price and options. This place does not quite compare with the other $40 steak houses but trying to find an east valley steak place - will continue to head to Phoenix and Scottsdale. Downtown salad very tasty and happy munching on wedge and caesar as well. Trout got thumbs up and barley salad very good but the rest went ribeye. Cooked well but lacked seasoning and more fat/connective tissue than I'm used to even for a ribeye. Huge but baked potato almost cold. Pecan torte tasty, lemon creme brulee and oreo deserts just ok. $5 bottle of beer for $10. so-so..."

  • "CHoP has done it again! I can never get tired from coming back to this exquisite restaurant. I had my wife's surprise birthday party hosted here and the staff treated her like a queen. Great customer service! The staff, to include the manager, were very hospitable to her and to all my friends. My friends really enjoyed the food, the staff and environment so much they are recommending it to their friends. I thank you CHoP for a great night and you will see us again. Highly recommended to people in the valley and to out of town guests."

  • "CHOP is by far one of the best restaurants in East Valley. Their menu is diverse and all of their food is excellent. The staff is very friendly and attentive to your wants and needs. "

  • "Friendly, attentive staff made sure we had drinks and appetizer within a couple minutes of being seated. Beef carpaccio is delicious, just wish there was more of it. Great kids menu offers more substantial options than most. The kids grilled chicken was nicely charred, juicy and flavorful. The food and service never disappoints!"

  • "We went for a special occassion and felt the prices did not fit the overall food and atmosphere. We had a nice time but would find it hard to go back with their current prices. We have gone to Ocean Club, Melting Pot, etc. before and throughly enjoyed ourselves even though they are very expensive and we keep going back to them on occasion. Unfortunately this establishment charges really high prices but serves small portions and the experience and atmosphere are not much different than other decent restaurants that have much more reasonable prices. It's almost as if this place is not sure what its meant to be - a decent restaurant or an upscale restaurant. Its charging upscale restaurant prices for just a decent experience; hard to justify."

  • "The service was ok. The girl who waited on us did fine but the guy who took over when she left dropped the ball. Showed up once and that was just too bring us the check. The steak was disappointing. I had the maui rib eye. It was completely charred black on the outside and not near done enough in the inside. I ordered it med well. The inside was somewhere between med rare and medium but the outside was literally burnt. Didn't send it back because honestly I didn't want the outside cooked anymore. I've been to happy hour at CHoP and was looking forward to this dinner but I was disappointed at best. "
