Chalon ReviewThe service was great and the appetizers were excellent. However, my wife and I both found the entrees lacking something. While they were decorated very well, I felt that my chicken was lacking flavor. I also am Americanized and prefer only good meat, rather than "The Whole Chicken". While I realize this is more of a European preference, it's just not for some people. Otherwise, the dumplings rocked and the chili crab rolls were delicious. The kaya toast was also very unique and worth a try. While I wasn't fond of the soy sauce in the kaya toast dip, I still give them an "A" for this meal, for creating a very interesting combination of sweet and salty.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery SatisfiedAlthough I think that Cholon can be a little pricy, there food is very good6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCuisine worthy of the presentationsMy hubby and I brought an out-of-town guest to Cholon because it's one of our top thee favorite restaurants, and everything was fabulous, as usual. The salmon and kung pao chicken were to die for, and the Brussels sprouts were so good we had to order a second batch, We'll be back soon, with or without out-of-town guests.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMour experience was fantastic!our experience was fantastic! Our server was very knowledgeable and kind. He guided us through the menu and helped us choose a wonderful mix of food and flavor. The plates just kept coming and we just kept eating! Every single bite was perfect.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsThis is the best restaurant in Denver. The food is interesting but recognizable and delicious. The flavors explode in your mouth like the soup dumplings. We loved the short ribs that came out covered in a sauce that made them look rather black but that black sauce was delectable. Don't forget to leave room for the fresh doughnuts!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCho well done!Very great surprise! A very interesting menu and really good choices. Food was prepared perfectly. Most notable at this restaurant is the good service.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!I have neer been disappointed after eating at ChoLon. We shared several small plates including: the Brussel sprouts, crab rolls, and pork belly buns. We shared the fish tacos for our main dish and paid the extra 2$ for the French fries, which were worth an extra 5$!! So crispy and that sauce.... Amazing. Everything was delicious and our service was top notch.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Soup Dumplings were myThe Soup Dumplings were my favorite... and yes, wait 3-4 minutes before eating!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Asian with pizazzWe went on a tues at 9pm and there were just enough ppl to make it seem alive, but not overcrowded. Loved the unique ricebread and spicy tomato sauce. The salmon and avocado was tasty and pleasing to look at, crab wraps were excellent and the seafood/noodles were good. Service on top but not intrusive. Ambiance great. Def will return.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA favorite.Love this place and can never get there often enough to satisfy. Always outstanding food and service, this kind of consistency is what keeps people coming back. Thanks for keeping the experience fresh with new dishes and the favorites (dumplings and kaya toast among others) on the menu.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was incredible. OurThe food was incredible. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered several good suggestions for first time diners. We were a large group so we were able to share 14 different dishes. We didn't find one that we didn't really like. We loved the Kaya toast and Soup Dumplings as appetizers, the Salmon Crudo, grilled ribeye, the Yellow Curry Mussels with french fries, and the brussel sprouts with ground pork and mint as part of our shared plates. We are still talking about the experience days later!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAsian tapas mastered....Cholon is one of my all-time favorites. We order several small dishes, and share...start with the soup dumplings and experiment a bit. Simply put, mastefully done, delicious and memorable food.....one of the best in Denver.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good as usual. OutdoorVery good as usual. Outdoor patio is a bit noisy (traffic and buses) but there isn't anything you can do about it!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great time.I had a special date. We both had a great time with great food. It made for a perfect evening.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMlove CholonWe really enjoyed all the food we had here. We had a collection of small bites for our dinner. So fun to share, everything looked beautiful, and tasted even better.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFun innovative Asian restaurantEnjoyed our meal. Not as gluten free friendly as I would have liked. Most items with soy. Did not have option to make with gluten free soy sauce. Dishes were fun and the non gluten free diners very much enjoyed their meal. The service was great!! So was the atmosphere.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciously FunThe food was incredible and beautifully displayed. The staff was both friendly and helpful in their food and drink selections. We were very happy that the restaurant encourages 'family style' eating so that we could all try more dishes! The food and the staff made this a very memorable and pleasurable meal.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMust go to Cho LonUnique food, great service and our Hostess was a gem as she kept our wine glasses full when server was busy elsewhere.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice for a celebrationI went with my family (5) to celebrate my graduation. Service was excellent and they gave me a free sorbet with "Congratulations" written in chocolate. We had the pork potstickers and duck spring rolls for apps. Both sauces were excellent. We then shared 4 large "share plates" -the salmon, lamb, scallops and ribeye. They were all good though I would have expected larger portions and some veggies with them. My aunt is pregnant so she couldn't eat anything without sending it back to be cooked. I would've liked some more of the amazing appetizer sauces... I'm not usually a dessert person but I'm glad I didn't pass it up here. The sorbets and coconut cake were phenomenal. Overall, this was a memorable and enjoyable celebration experience.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a fun, eclectic menuThe food here is so unique. Each menu item has different taste sensations. It's a gastronomic adventure. They have a great micro brew menu, drink menu and varied wine selection. The service was very attentive and efficient. We had a wonderful dining experience.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Best Asian Restaurant in LoDoSimple menu. Chelsea gave great advice on selection; now we have to go back to try all the other intriguing items. Every item was tasty and to share. Pork belly buns and onion soup dumplings were out of this world. Make sure you book well in advance for weekends.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is our 3rd time visitingThis is our 3rd time visiting Cholon and second with my brother & sister in law who are visiting from Alabama. They always request to come here. Every item we have ever had on the menu is superb! Keep up the good work!
The wait staff is attentive without being obsequeous. It's great to see Lon still hard at work even after establishing a spotless reputation.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOver the topConsistent. Very qualified staff. Friendly chef that is seen talking to guests, and a very passionate and wise chef. Very knowledgeable of his craft.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, delicious cocktails,Great food, delicious cocktails, and *fantastic* service - we mentioned in passing that it was my wife's birthday, and our waiter later surprised us with a great free dessert, complete with "happy birthday" written in chocolate on the plate. Awesome! :)5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond trip to Cholon andSecond trip to Cholon and food was as wonderful as before and as artfully presented. Service was top notch. Only negative was that the restaurant was uncomfortably warm. W had the early reservation on a Sunday and maybe the air hadn't been on all day and it was a very warm day. We had to leave before dessert because of this. We'll come again for sure.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my NOT husband thereI took my NOT husband there to celebrate his birthday. We really had a wonderful time, in all aspects....except for the noise level. It was incredibly loud, and as we were also sitting next to the windows (Which we loved!) we got noise bounce-back from all directions. It certainly did limit any private, personal conversations. Maybe drop some interesting sound panels from the ceiling???
Bottom line, though, we had a great time and will certainly go back.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was some of the bestThe food was some of the best I have ever experienced. I will definitely continue to crave this restaurant, and will absolutely be back.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMKnocked us outWe went because the buzz was good but frankly, we weren't turned on by their web site. Their web site doesn't begin to let you know what a great surprise is waiting for you. We can't wait to return. Every item we had was superb. We shared several small plates and still had a reasonable check at the end. Soup dumplings, pork belly buns, rib eye skewers will be repeated.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisy, but Great FoodAs I travel for business, I'm always looking for something a little different to entertain the highly sophistocated palettes of my customers. Unique local cuisine in Denver was not hard to find, but a location with an open reservation was. After reading the reviews on ChoLon, I decided to give it a try. Overall, the food lived up to its great reviews, but my only complaint was the noise level. It was hard to hear conversations at our table of 7. This location is great if you're looking for delicious family style restaurant to spend a casual evening.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will be backOn our first visit, we ordered 2 small bite, 2 small plates, and one large plate for the two of us. Each dish was creative , beautifully presented and delicious. The service was just right, and we enjoyed Chef Lon dropping by our table for a relaxed conversation.
ChoLon is a restaurant that we will visit again and again.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food! Loved the smallFabulous food! Loved the small plates and sharing so many wonderful textures and tastes! We each ordered 2 small plates and shared with the table of 5! Wine is a bit expensive, but certainly good. Would prefer having more of a selection (types and prices) to choose from.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA Special NightCholon provides as great a dining experience as we have in Denver. Let me qualify that by saying that Cholon is within the category of " Live wired, fun and urban environmen." The food and atmosphere touch each of your senses with a
Playful Joy. There are certain single
bites that stop you in your tracks. We run in a pack if folks who are all excellent home chefs and you will hit several points in the meal where you admit, "I don't think I can replicate that at home!" When you add in caring and knowledgable servers who want to connect with each diner, you have the whole
package of a unique and memorable meal. Great job!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a Favorite for DiningI took a good friend of mine who is moving out of Denver to ChoLon for a farewell dinner. It was excellent as always. I have eaten here many times and it is always great. Except for being a bit loud, there is nothing wrong with ChoLon.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways the Best!Cholon has the best most interesting food in Denver. We raved to friends and finally dined with them at Cholon. They were amazed. The noise level "energetic" means a bit too loud.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding menu, preparation,Outstanding menu, preparation, presentation, service, and food! I will definitely return to try more items. The prix fixe was reasonably priced and a good selection.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFriends trust my food recommendatioFriends trust my food recommendations as they send me photos of food from around the world saying....we were eating "fill in the blank" and were thinking about you. They also ask me to make reservations for them when in Denver. This is what my friends say about me and I can whole heartedly tell you ChoLon Bistro gets my endorsement. Last night we had guests from Venice (IT) who also are foodies, (we tend to flock together) and they were also gave ChoLon high marks. This is a trust me!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and New ExperienceI took my boyfriend and his family here for his birthday. We had been wanting to try ChoLon for awhile and I'm so happy we finally did. You can share all of the dishes or order your own. We did the prix fixe menu and ordered some extra dishes that looked good on top of it. The food was great and the waiter was great on suggesting what/how to order. I especially loved that a lot of the food is unique.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about ChoLon wasEverything about ChoLon was exceptional. Special food and great services combined.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came for dinner on SaturdayWe came for dinner on Saturday and had a great time. Our waiter was very friendly and helped explain the menu to us. He also made some great recommendations. It was tough to choose - everything on the menu sounded so good - but everything we had was absolutely delicious: French onion soup dumplings, beef tartare, short ribs, brussel sprouts, etc. Great ambiance, however, it was very loud - difficult to hear the person next to you at times. All in all, it was definitely one of the best meals we've had out in a while.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent oneThe food is excellent one of the top restaurants n the state. I have eaten here for both dinner and lunch and the meals are very unique in dishes and presentation defiantly worth a visit. Great farm to table food utilizing the small plate concept to the optimum. Only draw back we arrived early for our reservation and we still had to wait beyond our time to get a table. Good sign for the restaurant how well received the food is based on the crowd even after 9 PM. I did not know the restaurant offered valet service it would have saved us the $25 parking ticket the city decided to charge us after 10 PM.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was phenomenal. GoodFood was phenomenal. Good wine list. Service was fair. Too loud.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible menu of Asian fusionIncredible menu of Asian fusion in a smart, city setting.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTried some new dishes andTried some new dishes and was blown away-the asparagus soup was out of this world and it was my first time trying ChoLon's burger-delicious! I continue to be amazed by the high quality of food and service here.it keeps me coming back!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThough the wait staff wasThough the wait staff was attentive and the menu was quite diverse, the food was fairly bland over all. For an asian bistro, it definitely lacked heat and flavor. However, I did have the bartender make me one of the best custom mixed drinks I've ever had.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMoverall excellence, particularlyoverall excellence, particularly the food.Have eaten there several times and will again.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was exceptional and uniqueFood was exceptional and unique although for the portions, a bit pricey. But I would recommend this to anyone looking for good Asian fare in a great downtown location.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAte here for a quiet lunch.Ate here for a quiet lunch. The service was wonderful - incredibly friendly, but professional. I had the dumplings and brussel sprouts. Both were delicious. The dumplings were incredibly fabulous. I had wine, but the drink menu looked great as well.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMust Visit RestaurantOutstanding overall dining experience. From beginning to end, the service, food presentation, and quality of food was amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant to individuals who enjoy the entire dining experience.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and Attention to DetailOur office group decided to make a last minute stop to Cholon for lunch. It was very easy to make reservations from Opentable (Thanks for being on OT). We were greeted immediately when we came in and even though they already had a table set up for us, we requested a different setup and they immediately meet our needs. The service was awesome and the quality of the food was superb. One thing to note as we were talking and waiting for our next course I watched the chefs in the kitchen and watched how detailed they were on the presentation of the meal! This actually impressed me. They really take pride in what they do.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMChoLICIOUS!We positively loved our lunch at Cholon. From the amazing teas to the salmon crudo salad the server recommended, everything was surprising, well thought-out and delicious. Favorites were the soup dumplings (amazing!!) and the brussels sprouts side although that was a bit greasy (but despite that, delicious). The "rice sculpture" that was served in lieu of a bread basket was a tad bizarre. Service was attentive and helpful and it was great to see the chefs working away in the kitchen. Will definitely be back for dinner!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
