Diner Reviews
  • "The buffet is very nice food and good variety. Nice that they separate the vegetarian for those who would need to know. The service is a bit scattered but more or less OK. The buffet lunch is well priced."

  • "Chola offers good Indian food but the prices are a bit on a high end for restaurants of its kind."

  • "Had the chicken and lamb korma, with naan, lemon and coconut rice. The coconut rice tasted like popcorn. Movie theater popcorn. I don't know how they did it, but it was amazing. I couldn't stop eating it. I'd go back just for that. Seriously. The rest of the dinner was great too, best I've had in the US. But the rice is the memory I'll keep with me. I also had a pineapple breeze martini that was no slouch. I'll bring people here. It's now my first thought when Indian is an option."

  • "Authentic South Indian cuisine: great vegetarian selection. Non need to be afraid of the spice."

  • "the buffet at lunch is an amazing value and boasts one of the widest selections of dishes I've seen at any Indian restaurant."

  • "Really good Indian food - certainly a cut above the usual Indian restaurants. Lovely balance of flavours and enough spice to make it interesting. Service a bit intermittent - on a not too busy night - but well worth going for the food."

  • "This restaurant is a few blocks away from my office so I end up there for lunch and dinner fairly often. Dinner here is a nice experience. The food is good and seems unique, different from other Indian restaurants I've tried. The owner comes around and talks to people at their tables."

  • "If you are looking for best Indian cuisine ever in New York, go to Chola. It is really there!"

  • "This is the only Indian Restaurant that actually listens when you ask for mild! Otherwise, most restaurants still make the food too spicy."

  • "Nice, comfortable restaurant., with mainstream Indian dishes, served hot. Attentive service. If I lived in Manhatten I'd be a regular."

  • "I'm a vegan, but I went there with a group that had mixed diets. Everyone was happy and I was extremely pleased that there were specifically categorized "vegan" options. I had the Aloo Bindi, a potato, okra, and tomato dish. The okra wasn't mushy and it was seasoned to perfection. And our table had lemon rice and coconut rice and the way that rice felt apart and tasted was heavenly. I would recommend this restaurant and the reviews were consistent with the actual service and food. Thanks Open Table for making my job easier."

  • "We went on Sunday for their Brunch Buffet; I am not usually a fan of Indian Restaurant buffets, they are usually very limited and the food is not that good. This was the exception, the food was spectacular. They had a range of foods from South Indian to North with vegan and vegetarian options. The highlights were the Goat Byrani; the sambar; dal. It was a very nice touch that they bring fresh made tandoori chicken drumsticks and small masala dosas to the table. How can you not like a place that has both pani puri and idlis. They have some wonderful cocktails, highly recommend the ginger vodka martini concoction"

  • "An excellent dining experience. The menus is creative with many dishes not typical for an Indian restaurant. Wonderful flavors in all the food categories. Excellent, attentive and professional service."

  • "A group from work went to Chola for the buffet lunch. Great food--delicious, well made, and a variety of offerings (more than just the usual Indian dishes)."

  • "Food was excellent, but a cold breeze rushed trough the restaurant (wintertime)"

  • "Great Indian food, lovely atmosphere. We were three of us, so shared several starters then also shared a couple of Tandoori mixed grills. Because of our schedule, our reservation was for and early Sunday dinner (5:00 pm) so we were alone in the restaurant for almost an hour before other diners started trickling in. Hence the "Quiet" for Noise Level. Perhaps it got a little louder as it filled up later in the evening, but for us it was perfect."

  • "Really nice selection of very fresh dishes. Naan was just right and the sauces were delicious. Spice heat ranges available for the full spectrum; very high quality. Service was great; attentive without hovering and we never felt rushed. Will absolutely visit again when we're in town."

  • "My husband and I just had another wonderful dining experience at Chola last Saturday night. We have been coming here for approx. 8 years and we have always had nothing less than delicious meals here. The staff is warm and accommodating, which makes dining here even more rewarding. From our appetizers, masala dosa and a spinach and cheese combination in a tangy nut sauce, to our entrees, lamb vindaloo and chicken korma, the food was delicious. The food always tastes authentic. We have taken several out- of state family members to Chola when they come to visit. Many of them have said it was the best Indian food they've ever had. Thanks again to Chola for a special dining experience!"

  • "This is a highly overrated restaurant. The food is not good and the service leaves much to be desired. All in all, a poor choice if you wanted to have an authentic Indian dinner."
