Diner Reviews
  • "Chocolat was on my list of restaurants to visit in Harlem and I was not disappointed. The red velvet pancakes and chicken were better than I expected. The bottomless mimosas alone makes it worth the visit!"

  • "I made reservations and was seated right away on arrival. The ambience was great. Music was good and the food was delicious. I will return very soon and bring friends."

  • "My family was visiting from out of town and I decided to take them to Chocolat for brunch. The wait time was very unreasonable, as we waited a hour. After awhile, drinking mimosas was getting old. We were not the only table waiting. I even saw a man pull food out of his bag to eat becuase the wait time was so long. The waitress did her best to keep us from getting irritated. We even asked for bread or crackers to eat and was told that would take time as the chef had to warm the bread! I was getting very uncomfortable as I am pregnant. The only reason why we did not leave is because we had already waited so long. The manager did agree to knock $15 off our tab, but I don't think I will return, that is if I am very hungry."

  • "simply amazing. Brunch here. Do not leave without ordering their DIVINE red velvet pancakes and washing it down with limitless mimosas. The staff is great. Our server, Ebony, is a GEM. Attentive and thoughtful. Chocolat is TO DIE FOR. Don't leave NYC without going."

  • "Chocolat is the perfect bistro. The food is excellent and the presentation is elegant without being too fussy! The staff is wise in the ways of hospitality and the smiles along with the service are warm and heart felt! I recommend this lovely place for brunch and late night the music is jazzy with a touch of pop just the right blend to the background to might create yourself if you owned this perfect gem!"

  • "50 minutes before our appetizers came out. Dead flies on the window sill..the waitress eventually came and cleaned it up. only one person in our party ordered an entree.she really enjoyed it. The shrimp empanadas were delicious but the calamari and chicken were bland. The drinks were pricy but good. Service was ridiculously slow. The manager was having a staff meeting and yelling at the staff in east shot. I've been here for brunch once &it was good but there's better places. Not horrible but I would not go back."

  • "The place was closely and sat down fast. The food was excellent I had the lamb and it was small but juicy and fulling. But I guess at that time there was only one waitress there but she was good she handle it good. But all in all five stars"

  • "When I booked my reservation through Open Table, I requested a quiet romantic table. Well that did not happen. The service is VERY slow and we were there on a Sunday evening at 6pm, I don't think that there were even 25 people dining at that time. The server kept coming back and apologizing that the food was taking so long. The tables are black painted wood and our table was very sticky, even after being wiped again. We were not even offered another table. ,The water glasses were dirty. Take your chances!"

  • "We were told there was 45min wait for our food...when the food did come out..the food wasn't hot @ all......not good for brunch...but a better lunch and dinner spot."

  • "Went here for brunch over the weekend with my mom... the food was amazing and the decor is simple, but very nice. Our waitress was very attentive, and they definitely kept the refills coming for the mimosas. I'm a big fan of brunch, and this restaurant did not disappoint. I will be back!"

  • "I had such a wonderful time with my friends and family at Chocolat. We sat in semi private area. This area has a great view of outside and a helpful view of the front entrance (...so I can see my guests arrive). Our waitress, Ebony "the cancer"(her sign), was wonderful! She was very warm and comical! She earned every penny of her tip, and I gave her additional cash!! The mimosas were good...I like Veuve Clicquot, it was not Veuve Clicquot...but it was worth its unlimitedness for $12.00! Red velvet pancakes...AWESOME There fish croquettes...ok, flavorful, but something was missing...it needed a sauce. Shrimp and cheese grits...shrimp good, the grits a bit milky (but if you like that then hey!)..."

  • "I had a business lunch at Chocolat Restaurant and I had never been there before. I was very happy I chose this place. The food was delicious and the service was great. I was never pressured even though I was there for about two hours."

  • "We had a good time at Chocolat. The lobser mac and cheese appetizer was very good with hunks of lobster. The Shrimp quesadillas were just ok, as you could barely find the shrimp. While the fried chicken was good, it was the smallest bird I have ever eaten. The drumstick looked like the 3rd joint on a wing. My sister had the short ribs, which were very tender, but their was only one piece. My husband had the jerk chicken which was indeed a decent portion, although the pieces were still small, just not as small as the fried chicken. The drinks were good. So while the food was good, the portion sizes were ok, but small for the cost. All in all good food, just not what I would expect in quantity for the prices they charge."

  • "Considering we got caught in the rain, we were welcomed with open arms. Having a secluded table , we still felt part of the ambiance with privacy. Our waiter went over each and every menu item with us which helped the decision making and even put in our meal choices before taking our drink orders. This made everything go very smoothly and quickly. Our drinks warmed us as well as the service with a smile, chocolate martinis, and decadent chocolate dessert were mouth-watering. All-in-all a wonderful experience and the chocolate didn't hurt either. Thank-you for making our evening " to die for!" "

  • "I am disappointed in this restaurant because I have been there several times and this time we had a party of 5 so they sat us outside. They turned the tables sideways and because we were on an uneven sidewalk our drinks kept sliding off the table. We requested to be moved but they could not accommodate us. All we got was an apology and had to deal with the uncomfortable situation. The least they could've done is taken 10% off the bill or done something to show good customer service. We were highly disappointed and probably will not return. It's sad because we like supporting Harlem businesses. "

  • "I've lived in mid & downtown NYC 22yrs Prices-inflated and portions small I was put off at start because after I was seated 4 additional requests of whether I'd had reservations (open table!) were thrown at me over 1st 40" Later-CAMERA CREW filmed a reality show couple from a local cable station No one offered apologies for the inconvenience; Even after we were moved tables to allow filming Received lamb chops:well done-asked 4 med well Also @1/4 size chops @W70s restos Waiter-didn't hover-let us stay as long as wanted Bathroom doors-disrepair: I literally had to push my shoulder onto it like the cops on TV in a raid--in order to close and lock it! Lastly, door reception was cold and pretentious. "

  • "Took my wife and cousin here for a nice little "catch up on things" dinner on the day after Mother's day. We were greeted by the hostess who was very pleasant and took us to our table. The appetizer portions are a very good size. The lobster mac and cheese was very good although the top of mine was burnt. My cousin had the shrimp quesadilla appetizer which was good and filling (her main dish was the chicken salad which she took home). My wife had the salmon which was dry and overcooked. She returned it for a salad. I had the lamb chop which was good. The service was below average as with waiter was not attentive to the table and was in his own world at times. The ambience was great for a Monday night with a nice crowd."

  • "I took my mom for brunch on Mother's Day after buying an Amazon Local deal for this place. (Note/Lesson Learned: the AL deal does not apply to brunch.) The food was great, although a little overpriced for brunch, and the mimosas (with unlimited refills) were deceivingly strong (we realized a hour later that they had been quite effective). The abundance of outdoor seating is wonderful, but unfortunately set upon a sidewalk that slants noticeably to the street, so you end up feeling like you're going to fall over the whole time, especially when your drinks start sliding off the table. Overall, though, we had a very nice time, and the servers were all politely friendly and accommodating."

  • "Chocolat use to be a favorite of my brother and I, but lately we've been disappointed. The dinner prices have increased (high), we had several bad experiences before the price hike (ordered a spaghetti kids meal for our little cousin and the sauce was cold, ordered a pitcher of Sangria and it was mostly ice, I ordered a jumbo crab cake thinking it was really a jumbo crab cake however to my surprise, it was half the size of a hockey puck). With the bad there is the good, the food is good, the ambiance is nice and the staff are friendly. If you decide to experience Chocolat on your own, I would strongly suggest going to their brunch. Prices are reasonable and you can order unlimited mimosa's. I love, love, love their brunch.  "

  • "Nice place. Ambience was good, but the music selection and volume level does not match. Since there is no room for dancing, why are you playing dance/club music at such high volume. Since it is labeled as "restaurant lounge", I would expect to hear R&B/Jazz style music, with volume at conversational level."

  • "Met up with old friends-foodies- who wanted to check out Chocolat for brunch. It was just grand! We enjoyed the food so much the veggie omelet was made with fresh vegetables, the salad was crisp with an excellent mixture of fresh greens and the shrimp and grits made you think of soft fragrant breezes and magnolia blooms. The bottom-less mimosas were and added treat. The staff was warm, kind, attentive and super professional. We are already planning our return visit! "

  • "The lobster mac and cheese appetizer is delicious. The Chocolat salad was not, however. The dressing tastes bitter and gives the salad an odd taste. Although it was nearly empty in there during lunch and the waitress was pleasant, she neglected the table a lot and took too long in getting the receipt out."

  • "I was really happy with my experience at chocolat restaraunt lounge. It was up beat and the food was excellent. Our waitress was great she helped us choose drinks and checked on is enough to earn her tip but not so much as to ruin our date. The music was a great mix although it was a bit loud(maybe it was where we were seated). Overall I think this is a great spot. Will try it next as a girls night out. "

  • "This was my third time at Chocolat. They have the best pancakes in the neighborhood. I swear they're made from scratch. Light and fluffy. Perfection. The best part was our server, Ebony. She had a wonderful personality, tended to our every need and was an absolute joy to be around. When I return, I will request her section."

  • "I tried this place out with my cousin! It was cool. The menu was interesting. If you're a waffle person this is not the place for you. It's all about pancakes here. They looked good though! I had the salmone BLT and it was yummy! The seating was a little tight but managable. A reservation is a must!"

  • "We were a group of eight colleagues and needed a place that has good food, and that would seem NYC-ish to our out of town colleagues. This was a perfect place. We were seated in a separate room which was quiet enough to talk without seeming abandoned. The food is thoroughly enjoyable, if not perhaps spa cuisine. I particularly enjoyed the grits with shrimp -- the shrimp tasted of shrimp and the grits were decadent with butter and cheese. Great desserts. Also great drinks. And the service was just excellent -- I was called to warn me about a private function that would delay us a bit, and then our waiter was always there when we needed him, friendly, and he handled an error on the bill with great professionalism."

  • "Brunch at Chocolat was fabulous. I had the fried chicken with French toast and it was delicious. Everyone is my party had something different, from shrimp and grits to steak and eggs. Only one complaint was that the grits could have been hotter. Other than that, give us a mimosa pitcher and we're good."
