Chives Canadian BistroSuper.It is a great place for a romantic dinner. The food is super. Our waiter was professional, accommodating, friendly and funny. I put moderate for noise because I want people to know that the restaurant was full and did not have to scream to be heard. I love that. There are a few restaurants that have great food where I won't go to because of the loud noise. I can't wait for the next time when we can come back to this one. I rarely put the best rate. I had 4 guests from France and Quebec who requested that I recommend a 'nice' restaurant while staying overnight in Halifax.
From the minute we walked in the door they were impressed with the decor, service, wine list, food and presentation. The atmosphere was cozy and warm. They couldn't get over the fact we could have a conversation in a normal tone and how quiet the room was, even with a relatively full house. Our service person was very knowledgeable of the menu, professional and friendly.
My guests were still talking about their dining experience as we drove to the airport the following evening.

I love the biscuits they offer in the beginning - light and fluffy, crispy outside. The chicken dish was super - tender and so tasty!
The maple creme brulee was delicious - a sweet but light ending after a rather rich main.
The tables where we sat were lined up against the wall but there was no interference from neighbouring guests.

We made reservations, ran late (our event ran late and we were driving two hours to get there), changed them, had to wait for our company to join us, and they were gracious and accommodating despite the late hour and inconvenience it must have caused them. It was fantastic food, truly canadian selections and very adept at handling special dietary restrictions. The ambience was likewise very good, and the location is ideal. If I didn't live in another province, I would go lots! Definitely recommend5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the seafood chowderI had the seafood chowder special which was very good except for the tiny scallops which had kind of an off taste.Would have been much better with local scallops,cut up if necessary.My main was the lamb shank which was outstanding;I really liked the Moroccan sauce.I am not a couscous fan and I would have preferred Basmati rice.
My wife ordered spinach salad,scallops,and creme brulee which were all outstanding.
We were impressed with the servers.We had several and they were all courteous,well groomed,well spoken,informative,and friendly.
All in all a pleasant dining experience.
