Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was good for 3 of us but one person in our party got a grissley prime rib. Manager offered a substitute and it was very good. Think the decor needs an overhaul."

  • "My experience at the Sanibel Steakhouse was fantastic. Usually on the island I prefer seafood, for obvious reasons, but when you need a great delicious steak, Sanibel Steakhouse is the place to go. Delicious food, excellent service, and quiet, intimate atmosphere. A real quiet place to enjoy some amazing food."

  • "Chip's was good but not outstanding, service was good but not outstanding we ordered: Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes (great crab cake with a nice coconut and chile sauces), Scallops Casino (served on a half shell crispy topping but small scallops), French Onion Soup (the broth was heavy), Beefsteak Tomato Salad (the basaltic vinaigrette was lacking) the wait times between courses was terrible. We did not receive our entrees of 14 oz Kobe New York Strip (Kobe was tender and full of favor), 10 oz Filet Mignon (filet is filet) and Filet and Lobster (pretty much what we expected) for almost 2 hours after seating. The only course delivered on time was desserts."

  • "(Jackie) our server was exceptional. She attented her guests very well and very knowledgeable with the menu. My dining experience was great especially when I had the fried cheesecake for dessert, which was recommended by her-:)"

  • "Wonderful lobster, appetizers awesome and server outstanding. However the Ribeye steak was like a piece of leather. I choose not to complain it wasn't the servers fault but it's not the same restaurant it use to be."

  • "We first visited the Steak House in the early 90's, and it was outstanding. We continued to come several times a year, first from Islamorada and now from Clewiston, however this last visit was a disappointment. My husbands filet had grizzle and was not tender, the veggies were cold. I had the tuna and it was cold. I expect the center to be cold and red but it was blackened on a grill rather than crusted white and black sesame seeds and it was mushy. The Oysters Rockefeller was all cheese and spinach and gritty, one without an oyster ! We choose a $55 bottle of wine, it had a 'screw' top It is a three hour drive to Sanibel for an evening out to dinner and to pay over $300 for dinner, it wasn't worth it."

  • "Food was awsome. Wait staff was very friendly, knew menus well, and informative. Best steak in the area!"

  • "This was in my top ten for best meals that I've ever had."

  • "My wife and I loved the ambience, friendly staff and most of the food. We both had the ribeye steak and we both had difficulty cutting through the steak, never mind chewing it. Too bad because we enjoyed everything else about the restaurant."

  • "We had 4 moms and 4 15 year olds for a special dinner here. The waitress answered every question of the curious young girls. The food was wonderfully presented and mouth watering. We all enjoyed it and will be back again next visit."

  • "When you're on an island I guess you can get away with not having to update your restaurant. There was no one in the place, but yet we were seated at the very first table by the hostess table. From the outside it looks like a run down house and it's a little better inside but not the ambience we're used to. The food was decent and the service better than that, but given a choice I would opt for a more modern looking restaurant. The prices were high considering the looks of the place."

  • "There was no need for reservations, as it turned out, we were the only customers ! Most folks dine very early on Sanibel Island and we wanted to dine later (9PM). We even heard the kitchen staff comment that "They are European, so we'll be here awhile". And yes, we dined at our leisure and also tipped VERY well !! Our waitress was excellent and didn't make us feel rushed. We would definately go there again, but maybe earlier !! Enjoyed the food greatly !!!"

  • "We dinned at Sanibel Steakhouse for our anniversary and it was wonderful. Our server Kyle was knowledgable and friendly. The food was outstanding, loved the beef carpaccio, lamb chops and Chilean sea bass. We were too full for dessert but Kyle brought is some mousse to celebrate our special occasion, he went above and beyond!"

  • "The petite filets we ordered were cooked just right and nicely presented along with nice sides of baked potato and fresh green bean medley. The baked potato was especially tasty due to having it cooked with a salt crust on the outside. We would return here next year. "

  • "Once you've enjoyed one of the fine meals at Chip's Sanibel SteakHouse, you'll be going back again and again and again. When we make arrangement's to visit Sanibel, we make online reservations at Chips and look forward to the day."

  • "Upon entering the rest. The hostess did not have our open table reservation and never heard of open table. I rec'd later an email from open table that we didn't use the reservation and then had to explain that we did with the name if our waitress and our bill amount. Food and service were very good but because if the reservation problem I would not go back "

  • "Once a year my wife and I come from Ohio to vacation in Captiva. We look more forward to dinning there than the vacation! The food and service are OUTSTANDING!!!!! We highly recommend it to first timers who want a nice romantic dinner or just to enjoy the best food and service on the island, actually in the world!!!!"

  • "The oysters Rockefeller are awesome, so stuffed with spinach and cheese. We had a challenge with our steaks, but that can happen, the restaurant made it right. Their keylime pie is delicious as is their molten lava cake."

  • "When we fancy a steak we always think of Sanibel Steak House. We invited guests this time and we all had steak. Being rather hungry I opted for a medium rare Cowbiy Ribeye on the bone with Parmesan and truffle fries which was excellent. My guests all enjoyed their food and the very good Merlot that washed it all down! No room for dessert but maybe next time. Service was polite and quick."

  • "Atmosphere, presentation and food were excellent. Our server seemed to be rushing us; no sooner did she deliver our drinks than she was ready to take our order. Again as we finished our meals, she wanted to clear as each finished, which is disruptive to our conversations and experience in general. "

  • "Had a great dinner on our last night in sanibel/captiva. The filet was superb and the porterhouse special was dynamite. Our waiter was joking with us and having a good time. All good things! "

  • "As full time Sanibel residents, we have had an on again off again relationship with the old Sanibel Steakhouse, and it's reincarnation as Chips Sanibel Steakhouse. When Chips first took over, a few years ago, the quality of both the beef and the service declined so much that we stayed away for a couple of years. A few months ago, we went back, and were pleased to see tha things had improved dramatically on all fronts. The really nice surprise was the other night when we decided to try their new (to us) Prix Fixe menu. What a great buy! My 8 ounce New York Strip, and my wife's 5 ounce Filet Mignon were really tasty, and done exactly as we had specified. We'll be back!"

  • "We had excellent food at Chip's. We had an array of different appetizers and salads and everyone had something different for dinner from steaks to seafood to pastas. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly and gave us a lot of great information about Sanibel. I would recommend Chip's to anyone asking for dining tips!"

  • "Best steak on Sanibel. The rib eye was perfectly seasoned and cooked to exact awareness. Veggies were crisp and brightly colored. The sauteed red cabbage was unusual and just sweet enough to compliment the savory meal. The moderately priced Malbec was rich but light enough to refresh the palate. The key l ime pie was totally worth the calories. Fish lovers raved about their meals as well."

  • "This was our most expensive meal on Sanibel. Even though the food was very good the prices are on the way top end of the scale. The staff was very polite and prompt with anything that was asked for. I think there are better places on the island for far less money. Our meal at Jacaranda on Periwinkle was as good if not better with great service and at half the price. The interior is very dark and the place is in need of some upgrading. Overall though we had a wonderful time at dinner."

  • "The food and service were excellent. Only complaints are it's too dark, was hard to see the menu and it was very cold"

  • "It was a cool evening and we were sitting on the porch. They still were able to make the area comfortable. We had a reservation and although we were not seated immediately, we were able to sit at the bar and order a drink ( the drinks were good) which was fine. Sanibel is a very fun place and this restaurant fits right in.It is not a special place but more than adequate for a nice evening."

  • "My father said he was craving steak and was tired of eating seafood after being on the island for the past few months. I noticed the restaurant one day as I was out on my bicycle -during our week long visit to the island. I mentioned it to my Father, so we decided to try the restaurant....It was an excellent experience! Our meals were delicious! Service was fantastic! We are now back home in MO, but my father is still there and we left him with a gift card to return for one more steak dinner before he leaves the island for the summer!"

  • "Brought my family, wife, two grandchildren, and son and daughter-in-law to Chips. Service was great, and most important so was the food."

  • "Chips had strong ratings, so we made a reservation and went. Something seemed off kilter from the moment we walked in. Our teenage daughter (who probably watches too much TV) suggested that the restaurant apply to be on Restaurant Impossible. Staff seemed off their game. Ordered appetizers and salads, but my daughter's appetizer was no where to be found. Server said the kitchen lost the slip. My husband's steak was grizzly and impossible to cut. My salmon was tasteless and served with some weird things like spiced cabbage, mushy mushroom risotto and the little carrots that come out of a bag at the grocery store. We got out of there as fast as we could and would never return."

  • "tables too close together, on long banquette, made conversation hard. The room was over dark which with the furnishings gave a sombre feel. a sharing plate of stone crab had been cooked and then warmed up so was overdone. my wifes sea bass came on a huge plate filled with risotto and vegetables.... not attractive .... my wagyu steak was properly cooked pittsburgh style .... but so it should be at $44+ ... our most expensive meal by far in Sanibel and not a patch on Il Cielo. There is tradition and living in the past. very disappointed"
