Diner Reviews
  • "The food was just alright. It was also very noisy. "

  • "Went on a recomnendation. Fairly quiet but was early evening. Service impeccable and food absolutely delicious, particularly the beef with goats cheese mash. Be warned the desserts are huge but fantastic. Not cheap by any means but worth it."

  • "Salmon was awesome and the vegetable fried rice was out if this world. Never disappointed!"

  • "Delicious food, especially The Great Wall dessert - simply amazing!"

  • "Great Asian Fusion food with incredible and friendly service. Portions were very ample and we ended up taking food home. Cocktails were NY pricey, and neither of us would go out of our way to order them again. I had a pear sangria, he some lavender flavored drink. Stink with the decent wine and sake list."

  • "Outstanding food, exciting menue, Service was fair to poor. Has to call some one to get waiter back."

  • "I've been to CG now several times over the last few years and have not yet had a bad experience. The food is phenomenal and they have a decent wine selection as well. My dining companion and I got the prix fixe menu the last time we were there - March 31, 2014, at the suggestion of the server and it was fantastic. Good portion sizes and choices as well. It's a bit on the pricey side but well worth it in my opinion."

  • "Dinner at China Grill was not your typical Chinese food that you might get at restaurants offering "take out" in addition to dining in. This was a Chinese culinary experience. We ordered the price fixed option for our table. Each plate of food that came out was better than the first one, and the first one was very good! Two days later, I still have vivid memories of the explosion of delicate tastes of the courses. I especially liked the lobster pancake. Wow, did that taste good! Everyone at the table raved about the food the next day. You cannot go wrong with the China Grill!"

  • "This is our second trip to NYC and we fell in love with China Grill the first time we came so it will always be on our list when we come to the city!! Wonderful food and great service!!"

  • "Went for a romantic date with my wife. The menu was small but we still couldn't decide what we wanted. We decided on the tasting menu (recommended). This proved to be a great idea. We got to have most everything we wanted to. There was so much food that we couldn't possibly finish. The waiter was extremely helpful and attentive. The bus staff was also extremely attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "There are some interesting brunch choices and the food was very good. It was not that busy but there service was a little slow and inattentive."

  • "We decided to go to China Grill before theater based on the reviews on Open Table. Not sure if they were referring to the same restaurant as we had a horrible experience. We shared the spare ribs and dumplings for an appetizer. 2 of the 5 small ribs were all fatty and inedible, and, the dumplings tasted like they were just defrosted. We told the waiter, but, he didn't seem to be fazed. We shared the shrimp for the main course. 4 shrimp with a little pasta for $27.50 is absurd! On the way out of the restaurant, we tried to tell the manager, but he and the other front desk person were on their cell phones, and it seemed like they could care less. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday night."

  • "What a wonderful waiter we had and the food was awesome!"

  • "Went to dine here for a client lunch recently. My experience this time around was not as good, and this was only my second time. The food portions were smaller and more oily than usual - the crispy spinach was extremely oily, we were disappointed. Our waiter did remove it from our bill. The dessert - we ordered the bananas in a box - was delicious as usual. Would think twice about coming to this restaurant again in the future."

  • "My friend & I got the tasting menu and it was great, but alot of food! We got to taste 3 different dishes EACH for apps, entrees & dessert. Yes, 3 apps, 3 entrees & 3 desserts for two people! Definitely good bang for our buck. Went on a Saturday eve and service was a little slow. The place was pretty tame for a Saturday night."

  • "I came to China Grill for their "Dragon Brunch" for my birthday with 12 of my girlfriends. They offer a prix fixe menu with options such as pan seared spicy tuna, curry miso black cod and yuzu cream stuffed french toast. For an extra $10 they offer "free-flowing" bellinis, bloody marys or screwdrivers. All of my friends were impressed with their meals and the staff was extremely attentive toward all of our needs. At the end of the meal they came out with a dessert called "the great wall of china." Emerging from it were two massive sparklers. The expressions on all of my friends faces when they lit these things were priceless. Overall, I really felt that the staff went out of their way to make the day special and stress free for me."

  • "Never noticed this place before and wow was is it delicious. Get the price fix menu - it was will worth it. So much food for the Table. You get to share all three salad options. All three appetizers and entrees too and don't forget dessert. The dumplings were my favorite appetizer, Caesar salad unique and delightful. Beef entrees was delicious and garlic shrimp was so tasty."

  • "The food was very tasty but the service felt a bit rushed. If you are pressed for time and desire refined asian dining in an attractive atmosphere, you've found the right spot."

  • "Went during restaurant week. We were a table of four and got four different options. The waiter Tom was absolutely a gem. He gave us recommendations and brought us plates so we can taste all of our choices. He didn't try and sell us additional items to raise the price on the check which shows he really has the customers beat interest. He knew the answer to every question about the food and his expertise showed. The food was great, lots of flavor, drinks were delicious (nice cocktail menu) but what set the place over the top was Tom. We definitely will be dining again and requesting him as our waiter."

  • "The food, service and ambiance at China Grill was overall Pretty Good. We had a delightful waitress. Some of the servers were a little confused when serving the tables which can mostly be attributed to it being restaurant week. Over all service was pretty good."

  • "Confucius Chinese chicken salad is my favorite for lunch. prix fixe menu for restaurant week is way way too much food but great value"
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "Portions were massive, we could only eat a half of everything but had to take the rest with us as it was very good!"

  • "Went for restaurant week. The calamari salad and the lobster pancakes were good, the Grilled Szechuan Beef was AMAZING! The service was pretty good too. I would recommend and return. The only thing was that my husband did not love his salmon dish!"

  • "Made a last minute dinner reservation for restaurant week. I've heard that the food was delicious but pricey at the same time so Restaurant Week was a good excuse to dine there. The food was as expected, delicious and well presented. Everything from the apps to dessert was perfect. I even went home with a doggy bag. Will surely be there again!"

  • "Overall I enjoyed China Grill. My only qualm is that my sister's salad looked as if it was made with old romaine lettuce."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "This restaurant was apart of the nyc restaurant week, I'm always unsure what to expect on the menu during this time. It was my girlfriends birthday and I wanted fun yet romantic dinning. China grill was perfect!"

  • "The food was just ok, nothing special. Would not return here."

  • "Food was really good. Tasty. My salad was way too big. I think they made a mistake and gave me an entree salad. So I took it home for leftovers. The acoustics suck. It was way too loud. I could not hear anything my colleague was saying."

  • "It's not the first time I have had inexplicably slow service at China Grill. This time it was so bad that after almost 90 minutes we simply got the check and left and abandoned the rest of our Restaurant Week menu. A place that has been in business so long should be able to serve a business lunch in a reasonable time. We were three people and all are ordering off a special menu and they didn't even come close to getting the courses on the table in a timely manner or getting three orders to the table at the same time. As I said, inexplicable."

  • "the service was phenomenal, as were the food items we picked (caesar salad, crispy calamari salad, drunken chicken, szechuan beef, vegetable fried rice and the hazelnut torte). The non-alcoholic pina colada which was recommended by the server was amazing. I left here stuffed and that was good, as I have been to other restaurants that do sharing style and they barely provide any food; The portions at China Grill were massive. I went for restaurant week but I'd definitely go back with friends! A++"

  • "Amazing food and drinks ! Came here for restaurant week. The appetizers : the lamb and crispy calamari salad were outstanding ! For the entree we got the skirt steak and drunken chicken. The steak was cooked perfectly . The chicken was good but nothing out of the world. Dessert was very creative and tasty. I had a mango martini which I thibk I will definitely have to go back for another one !"

  • "I love this restaurant and eat here often. A fun place to bring out of town friends who like Chinese food. It is always lively (and noisy) and the food always good. HOWEVER, recently, I split a check with someone and the bills came back with "suggested tip" on each half of the bill for the WHOLE amount. If you are not paying attention each would have left a tip on the whole amount not on half. Not nice China Grill. Your computer can easily fix that by simply mentioning suggested tip on ENTIRE BILL."

  • "The China Grill has never disappointed me. While I don't come here all that often, it is always terrific when I do. My favorite things include the Peking Duck Salad, the Crispy Calamari Salad, the crispy spinach, the lobster pancakes, the tuna.... I could go on and on. My husband and I might be moving to Florida before year end.... Luckily, there's a China Grill in Fort Lauderdale!"
