  • "This restaurant is our favorite for Chinese in Cincinnati!"
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "Soft shell crab is in season - we had it in black bean sauce, and it was great as always. Also had the chicken walnut which is a favorite of ours. Special appetizers tonight: PEI mussels in a lightly spicy sauce and sake shrimp. This continues to be our favorite spot in the city."

  • "As always, our meal was wonderful - dem sem, quail lettuce wraps, and shrimp in lobster sauce. Tenley and his staff never disappoint, and I can always wholeheartedly recommend the China Gourmet."

  • "We have been looking for a Chineese Restaurant without a buffet - where what you request is cooked-to-order and we found it. We will return soon and often. "

  • "Mr Moy knows how to run a restaurant. Top notch food and presentation. 23 years I have frequented CG and still as good as visit one. Lobster and black bean sauce is excellent. Hand made Dem Sum will blow you away. Make this a regular place and you won't be disappointed."

  • "This takes the cake for the worst chinese food I have ever eaten. We ordered the bbq shrimp as an appetizer, and it was very mushy, and too much sauce. At first bite, it tasted just like a mcdonald's chicken nugget with their bbq sauce. Really? Chinese. Not by a mile. Second course was short rib wok and szechuan chicken. Szechuan chicken was dry, and the sauce was not remotely close to anything szechuan we have ever eaten. Bland and pathetic..The best part our meal were the water chestnuts. They were crunchy and flavorless, just as they should be. Drinks were pretty good, service was good, atmosphere was okay. Overall, I would say panda express serves better chinese than this place. What does that tell you?"

  • "We like to eat at the China Gourmet about 1/month. Usually we go on Tuesday (Lobster Specials) night, but this time another couple wanted to eat Chinese and had not been to the C.G. We were a little delayed in getting there due to traffic problems and the Owner was most gracious in showing them around the restaurant and seating them. Later, when we were all ready to order, he took care to explain how they freshly prepare all their items and that they can make whatever adjustments a customer might desire. We have another friend who is gluten intolerant and has been there with us and they have dishes that they can prepare to accommodate his needs. And everything we've had there has been excellent. They also have a full bar, wine & beer."

  • "China gourmet is not your usual Chinese restaurant . It is very unique. If you have not tried it, you should come in and let the staff order for you."

  • "I used to visit China Gourmet back in the 90's when Bing Moy ran the restaurant. It was always a superior experience. I had a chance to visit again this week, and I I'm glad to find that the food and service are still outstanding. China Gourmet has a broad menu of authentic Chinese fare (viewable on their website), but the attribute which truly distinguishes this restaurant is the service. Our waiter, Matthew, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in walking us through the menu and making "off-menu" suggestions, Our party of five all chose different entrees, and all five were outstanding. I highly recommend China Gourmet, now operated by Bing's son Tenley, and a very good staff."

  • "Our group of 7 enjoyed a array of tasty dishes. We asked for a quiet table and our request was honored. Wait staff was excellent. China Gourmet lived up to its fine reputation."

  • "Owner/manager goes out of his way to make his guests feel welcome, and to provide a personalized touch. The food was excellent. My spouse ordered a beef dish, and said the meat was the most tender he could remember eating in a restaurant. I had a mix of Thai chicken and shrimp, thanks to the owner's off-the-menu personalization. It was excellent."

  • "China Gourmet is our favorite restaurant in Cincinnati! My husband and I have been going there for the last 15+ years and it is always a great dining experience. I love to go for birthdays, anniversaries, important business dinners, or just a last minute dinner because "It's Tuesday". We have always gotten 5 star food, service, and ambiance. The owner and his staff should be commended for their attention to detail, and excellent service. You can order "off-menu" and they will happily create dishes for you. Their egg rolls and fried rice are the best in town, and really, the best I've ever eaten anywhere. Family-owned and operated. A hidden gem in Hyde Park on Erie with free and convenient parking. LOVE CHINA GOURMET!"

  • "Always consistent high quality. Great food and wide selection. Friendly, happy staff which is reflected in fine service and really nice meals. If you have eaten at China Gourmet you are aware of this; and if you have not eaten there I can recommend reservations without any reservations :)"

  • "We have gone to China Gourmet several times and this time the food had very little taste. We overheard the couple behind us complain about the lack of taste also."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "We have heard good things from friends that go often to China Gourmet and decided to try it. I don't know if it was a bad night or what, but the whole experience was not very good. The service was very slow. We arrived before 7pm and were finally served our entree after 8:30pm. It took about a half an hour from the time we ordered our appetizer before it came as well. We had to finally let someone know when we were ready to order our entree because the waitress had not checked with us for so long. When the food arrived, it was mediocre at best. My steamed trout was bland and my husband said the same of the scallops."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants for anything from a first date to a birthday. A great menu with more traditional chinese meals and some of the Americanized meals too. Everything I have eaten here is great. I always look forward to coming back!"

  • "If you don't know what you want they will ask you a couple questions then bring you wonderful food you will love. We are never disappointed at China Gourmet. Always a winner"

  • "nestled on the street side with a steep stair case it does not make much of a street statement. If you park in the back there is a much more accessible entry. The general service was very good, even excellent on the part of the young man clearing the table and helping serve. The food was well prepared and tasty. Our table of 5 shared 4 entrees and were pleased with the dishes. The high light of the evening was the server and upped the overall rating from good or very good to excellent."

  • "We have been eating here for over 30 years and they consistently deliver superior food and service. Tenley has added some new dishes that we enjoy especially his special garlic shrimp. The trout and black bean sauce remains a favorite and for the first time we tried sautéed pea greens. Uniquely good. China Gourmet remains a favorite and when we are in town we always data here."

  • "Try the steamed fish in ginger sauce (if walleye, one serves two); this will bring you back again and again. Not to mention great soups and appetizers."
    Dined on 11/21/2013
  • "One of our favorite places - especially for great Chinese food that is a big step apart from the common Chinese Buffet fare. We're not in to the bar scene, but they do have one, and the crowd there seems to be enjoying themselves. We're an older couple and enjoy the more sedate dining room - real tablecloths(!) and attentive service. We love it!"
    Dined on 10/8/2013
  • "Dependably GOOD quality chinese food, in a place a dozen steps above most Chinese restaurants. From Quail "tacos" to Lobster in Black Bean Sauce, expect a "Gourmet" approach. AND they remember your name!"
    Dined on 9/21/2013
  • "Want more can be said: great food as always. And as always, the entire staff makes one feel like they are part of the family. Our favorite place to spend a relaxed evening with friends and great food."

  • "If there is a better quality Chinese restaurant in Cincinnati, we have not found it. China Gourmet is superb! It's menu oriented (no buffet) and they have great soups, appetizers, main entrees, and specialties. Also a nice wine list. And a full bar. But we go there for the fine dining and attentive service."
    Dined on 9/3/2013
  • "Great dinner, even though half the restaurant had lost power! Food was outstanding, service was great. Tenley and his team customized menu choices for our tastes and appetites. Couldn't have had a better dinner."

  • "China Gourmet is our favorite in Cincinnati. This evening was a dinner with friends, and we all agreed that we are never disappointed when we come here. Mu shu duck, shrimp in lobster sauce, the new chicken, and trout steam-fried in ginger and scallions were our main courses, and each one was terrific. If you don't see what you want on the menu, just ask - and they will cook to your preferences. We love this place and recommend it highly!"

  • "Steak kew, trout with black bean sauce, and moo shoo duck was all wonderful. We had garlic spinach and Sechwan beans too. The proportion sizes were large enough that we all took some home."
    Dined on 8/28/2013
  • "We have been eating here for 30 years and the trout in black bean sauce is our all time favorite. Ask for extra thick bean sauce on the side. The garlic spinach is divine and the Sechwan beans not too hot. The service is always attentive and Tenley always greets us as did his father Bing when he was there. We hope the next generation will continue this fine tradition."
