Chick's used to be a wine bar that also had great food. Now it seems to have an identity crisis and in my opinion, it's just a so-so bar with small-portioned food. I will say that the food was tasty, but the salad, the pasta and the sandwiches were small. We left hungry. The saddest part of the evening for me was when I ordered a glass of Cava and they gave it to me in a regular wine glass, filled to the tippy top. Nice server, but absolutely no clue.

Cute spot close to the border of Queen Village. We went on a Friday night and it was surprisingly quiet. Got the fig and gorgonzola flat bread to start, I ordered the portabella sandwich and my husband had the boar burger. The flat bread was tasty, lots of figs and the caramelized onions were delish! They had a good selection of wines and beers. My sandwich was good - a little too charred on the outside, but fresh ingredients and good flavor. The shoe string fries that accompanied it were tasty. My husband's burger was good also! And - the chocolate tart... delicious. It's not meant for two - it's meant for 5 because it's incredibly rich and comes w/ salted caramel. The bar tender was also the server, he was really nice and attentive.

  • Great Italian with a Twist
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011VIP
    Dined on 3/8/2012
We loved this place and were surprised how few people were dining there, though there was a large private party going on upstairs. My mother is Italian so the traditional dishes with surprising ingredients or traditional ingredients in surprising dishes were fun for her (and us) to try. Highlights of the night were definitely the mozzarella appetizer (no doubt because the cheese is fresh from Claudio's), the Panzanella salad (mmm dates), and the bombolino with a twist -- no custard inside but delicious lemon filling. We also drank well from the short but satisfying beer list.

Food was great. Service was so-so, most of the tables were right in the bar, so the servers were going back and forth from tables to working the bar making service slow. They were attentive, just very slow to respond---it took a while to get something you asked for(like a coke). The wine list, for calling itself a wine bar, was substandard. Rather than being an extensive survey of wines and having an interesting selection, it seemed to be more a hodgepodge thrown together. All in all, we'd return for a casual meal sometime, but if we are looking for a winebar or for a place to have a dinner out together on the town, it would not be here.

The food here is outstanding, however, for being a wine bar, the wine list was very limited but what we had was good. Being from out-of-town, the location was not particuarly inviting and we were quite doubtful of this choice until we got the food. The fig and gorgonzola appetizer was AMAZING as were the scallops. The fish entree was a wonderful blend of flavors. I definitely recommend this restaurant and encourage others to look past the neighborhood.

How do you give a negative review to a landmark when the bartender/server was extraordinary? All the food was perfect. However the menu was limited to the lowest I have ever chosen from, half of what was on the web-site. We would have opted for more selections had we known., which was what the people who popped into the bar for a glass seemed to be doing. For a wine bar, they were out of most options. They say they are changing to accomadate the neighborhood. Wish we had known before we ent.

LOVED this restaurant! I never heard of it until reading such great reviews on Open Table. A group of ladies went here for a special occassion. We were a little taken back at first with the size, but the food WOW-ed us! Eggplant and chick pea hummus was fantastic and YOU HAVE TO try the fig, carmelized onion, and gorgonzola crostini appetizer. Absolutely outstanding! Wine, in my opinion was a little over priced considering we sell the same wine at my restaurant, so I know what it's worth at cost. I don't suggest trying the Sangria, a nice lite Chardonnay would be better. Portion size was perfect. I'm a little upset we didn't try any dessert because the menu was heaven. Overall we had a wonderful experience and I suggest you check it out!

I can't say I was that impressed with the service (a bit slow) or the wine list at this "wine bar" but the food was fresh and fantastic and the atmosphere was very nice - something about tin walls. We mostly noshed on a large selection of the appetizers. My favorite was the Mozarella with tomato jam in a pesto sauce.
