Chicken and the Egg is a neighborhood gathering spot that will serve sophisticated yet approachable American farmstead fare. Our name represents the cycle of life and the importance of sustainability. We want to help minimize the negative impact humans leave on this planet.

The menu at Chicken and the Egg features innovative twists on classic American dishes. The cuisine will incorporate seasonal ingredients from local farms and purveyors as well as sustainable beef, pork, poultry and seafood. Marc Taft is the chef/owner and will utilize approachable ingredients that are thoughtfully constructed and highlight what the earth has to offer.Continued

  • "I've been to this restaurant a number of times. The food and service is excellent and consistently so. And the menu will vary somewhat to feature seasonal items from time to time. The hangar steak and the shrimp and grits are favorites. The Caesar salad is one of the best I've ever had. The open, uncrowded layout of the restaurant is great for groups and couples, as well. You won't feel like you're right on top of the table or booth next to you."

  • "This restaurant changes its menu to reflect what is fresh and locally produced. The food is delicious, always fresh and inventive takes on traditional southern dishes. Do not be fooled by the name....this is not a "breakfast place", but a lunch/dinner spot which recently added breakfast to the menu. The location is a bit off the beaten path, but it is only about 1.5 miles west of Marietta Square, well worth an extra couple of minutes drive."

  • "We started with Fried Green Potatoes and they were mediocre. Very hard to get through and had little taste. For entrees, we ordered Salmon (Dad said it was good), Shrimp and Grits (Mom was underwhelmed) and my wife and I ordered the fried chicken. The chicken was so under cooked it was bleeding and could not be eaten. We also ordered fries and waitress forget them and did not bring them until dinner was almost done. Despite the feedback to waitress they did nothing to bill. Awful experience and will never be going back."

Michelle, our server, was very attentive and energetic. Was helpful in pointing out options for my vegetarian friend. Definitely try the fried green tomatoes!!"

  • "for people who live in the area, but we traveled from the northeast side of Atlanta to try supper and the experience really wasn't worth the extra mileage. To start, the 'roasted tomato bisque' had a heavy tomato paste flavor. The classic wedge salad was delicious, as was the fried chicken entree. The side item of greens had some sweetness to them; not the way I like them. I had the creole pasta with chicken, shrimp & tasso. The shrimp was rubbery. The sauce was quite spicy, which I like, but not very complex. The beer and wine options were good, and the cocktails looked like fun. The decor was good/surprising, given the strip mall location; service was very good. I would probably return, and stick with reliable winners on the menu."

The service & food is consistently great which is not an easy accomplishment. They are doing everything right. Elegant design, smart management, impeccable service, outstanding food. The menu changes based on the season and freshness - they are an authentic farm to table restaurant unlike so many others who just say they are. We loved everything on the winter menu and are looking forward to eating our way through the new spring menu. Brunch was superb ( make a reservation - they honor it no matter how crowded). French toast w/fried chicken was insanely good as was the GA Benedict and best grits we've ever had."

  • "We had brunch on 3/16 and had a very enjoyable experience. We were seated within minutes if our reservation time, which was great as otherwise there was a 30+ minute wait. Our server Emma was very friendly and attentive. The food came out in a reasonable time and was delicious. The only complaint would be the noise- no carpets so the noise just seemed to bounce around"

I has the pork tenderloin and my date had the shrimp & grits. Both were fantastic!! We will be back. Next time I want to try The Thursday night special or brunch!!"

  • "First time there and absolutely LOVED it! The food was amazing. My husband and I went for brunch. I had the skillet scrambler (I think that's what it was called) and my husband had the fried chicken and French toast and both were so good! The service was excellent and the ambience was spectacular. I loved how it was decorated and I loved the bar area. I will be back for dinner very soon! Definitely will be recommending Chicken and the Egg to friends and family! Seems like a great place for any meal or even just for drinks!"

Our waiter, though nice, was difficult to understand, placed his hand on top of the pouring part of the water pitcher and often interrupted conversation as he approached. The food was only average -- my food was lukewarm, at best. My husband's shrimp and grits left him with a queasy feeling. Our friends' food was better - though not great. We were overall disappointed. We might consider the brunch, but won't be returning for dinner."

  • "We went to dinner on a Sunday with a somewhat diverse group of palates. There was something for everyone on the menu and the portions were good sized. Not overwhelming and not too small. The Pimento Cheese Fritters were a hit. There are four per serving so make sure you order enough to go around. The Beet Salad and Jäger-Schnitzel got solid marks as well. If you're not into somewhat spicy dishes you might want to pass on the Shrimp & Grits. While I enjoyed this dish some may find it a bit too spicy when compared to the more usual offering."

  • "I went here on Valentine's Day at the last minute. The restaurant was very clean and spacious. My boyfriend and I were seated in a semi circle booth in the corner near the front. We were greeted immediately by the owner I believe. Awesome guy! He explained to us what the menu items entailed. I never had an empty glass of water as he continued to refill it constantly. Not a problem though since he was so friendly. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The freshest shrimp I have tasted in GA by far. My boyfriend had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection. I will be returning when they change their menu to the spring menu. I'm glad I dined here. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant out."

  • "I had the Florentine Benedict and the flavor of each food item was excellent. Hollandaise sauce was good in consistency, the eggs were poached to perfection and the link sausage melted in my mouth. The only suggestion I would make is to add to the presentation. The plate was plain, there was no garnish and most of all for the price of $10.50, although reasonable, I think a small fruit cup or some side potatoes are in order. If nothing else a garnish with a slice of orange and lettuce or parsley to add some color to the plate would be a nice accompaniment. The service was excellent and the ambiance is always nice at the Chicken and the Egg. I am glad we have that restaurant so close to my home!"

  • "What is there to say? Everything we ordered was fantastic. The chicken poutine was the stellar. I might have to come back and just have that for dinner. The southern stroganoff and jaegerschnitzel were also fantastic and the banana pudding was practically mashed bananas layered with whipped cream - intensely banana-y."
