Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I recently returned to the Chicago Prime Italian restaurant and they continue to refine and perfect their operation. Great food and great atmosphere combine for a very pleasurable dining experience. Our server was very attentive and the service overall was very efficient. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and we have definitely added it to our favorites list."

  • "The waitress was excellent(party of ten). She was quick, friendly and attentive. Veal Parm, Veal Marsala was loaded with mushrooms, also the Filet was fantastic."

  • "A totally underwhelming experience. Food was not very good (less crab than filler in the crab cake special), dry lasagna with no sauce and not edible, service that was erratic. Noise level quite high for such a somber interior. Will not go back."

  • "Changed hands, but did not change the atmosphere, or the food. Almost the same menu as before (Rosebud Old World Italian), at higher prices, but you get a cup of soup or side salad now. The on-line menu on OpenTable needs to be updated. The portions are large, the taste is bold, the wine selection is great."

  • "Celebrated friend' s birthday...her comments were wonderful, good food, good wine. We always enjoy the eggplant salad"
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "After taking over the old Rosebud site one may think the owners would strive to surpass or at least maintain the level of service of the previous owners. Food alone does not make a 5 star restaurant, there are hundreds of Italian Joints in Chicago."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Sat in main dinning room, where noise level is better then bar area. Ordered some specials on menu and enjoyed a lovely meal. Chef prepared item not on menu, that was on Rosebud's menu before being sold."

  • "Chicago Prime Italian catered to my special request for patio. I had a party of 11 of my favorite people, and the servers were so accommodating, friendly, and wonderful. We were able to sit & talk, not feeling rushed to open the table for another party. The food was a nice blend of Italian dishes, which everyone enjoyed (lasagna could be tweaked). Would not hesitate to refer Chicago Prime Italian, and plan to go back. Thank You! G Bergstrom"

  • "You need to try the eggplant salad. It was a wonderful surprise. It can be shared with four people. All pasta and meat was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this place."

  • "The food is great here - fish salad is my favorite. Pastas are wonderful. The service was terrific! My second time here and I will definitely be back. Our waitress was so accommodating as people kept joining our party during the evening."

  • "We went here with a group of 11 for Father's Day. Our table was a bit small for the amount of people we had, but it was ready on time. Service is SLOW. Our waitress was nice, just in no rush. I had the shrimp risotto which I thought was decent. Husband had the chicken vesuvio and he thought it was not as flavorful as other's he'd had. Overall, nothing special."

  • "This was our second time at Chicago prime Italian. We ordered all different things and the food was delicious. We truly enjoy the great flavors and large menu."

  • "This is the 4th time we've dined here and it never disappoints. The appetizers- shrimp and eggplant salad- were outstanding. The grouper fish special, skirt steak, and pasta dishes were amazing as well. Attentive staff and great outdoor eating. We will be back!!"

  • "This was our first time back since it was rosebud, and wow what a change. They did an exquisite job renovating the restaurant. The also have a beautiful patio that has full service dining. We were promptly sat our reservation time. We started with the shrimp dejogne, a dish that is simple to overcook, but they NAILED it. We split the eggplant salad, big enough to share, very tasty. For emtrees we did the veal saltimbocca and the pork chops calabrese. Both outstanding dishes, and generous portions. For dessert went standard tiramisu, however it was one of the better I've had. Clearly made in house, and a must for any tiramasu fan. Great time, will be back"

  • "So, this was the first time for us at this little gem, and we were not disappointed at all! The food was prepared well, and our server Kelly was great! My tilapia was huge, as are all the portions. Great night at a great new spot!"

  • "Was a great dining experience. Four of us dined and all had different meals. All four meals were fantastic and enough to bring leftovers home for a second meal for all of us. The service was also excellent and a great dessert menu as well. Totally and completely satisfied and would definitely go back again."

  • "The dining room was lovely and the food was excellent. One of the owners came over and we mentioned that we were celebrating our daughter getting into grad school in a very competitive field. To our surprise he sent over a free dessert to share. It was a very nice and totally unexpected treat. I also love when the waiters take your leftover food away from the table and wrap it for you. We would definitely go back."

  • "Waitress was very accomodating and sevice good but too noisy of an environment due to accoustics. Would not return to eat inside. "

  • "We wanted to try this place out because of the ownership and its affiliation with Chicago Prime Steakhouse. Food was okay, seating is not good (open areas with traffic flow and kitchen doors cutting through one of the rooms) Very noisy, had to raise our voices considerably to speak with each other over the lounge music and general table talk around us. Service was mediocre, waitress had to reach over the seat of the adjacent table to serve me. Not an enjoyable dinning experience."

  • "Using an offer from Facebook for 50% off our lunch, we had lunch after my daughter's Graduation. We had read that the Chef who is cooking there was from one of our other favorite Italian Restaurants. The server heard that we were familiar with the chef and brought him out to introduce us. The food, as usual, was outstanding. Since it was lunchtime, the place was kind of quiet. Our server was very attentive. We look forward to revisiting for dinner and check out the entertainment."

  • "My friend and I took advantage of the opening -1/2 lunch items to try it. We ate outside on a beautiful day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My eggplant parm was tasty and generous. Her fettuccine alfredo with added shrimp was tasty. However, it only had 3 very large shrimp, which made it look skimpy. No soup or salad included with the entree. Our moscoto at $10 was a bit pricey for the smaller pour in a fluted glass. The crusty bread was excellent. Don't have any idea of the inside or ow it would be on a Saturday night. Crowds, noise and long waits were issues with the previous place. I'd give it a try. Service was excellent with many different servers all helping out."

  • "Service was great. The baked ____-neck clams were an excellent appetizer but they were small, which may be OK, but for $10 I thought they were slightly over-priced. The shrimp/asparagus pasta was excellent, as was the filet, and strip steak. Nice wine list. Although the tables were pretty close together, the servers managed to get past them. Biggest complaint was the restaurant was noisy (there was a large group next to us) and it was difficult to hear the music. They should have sat us at a different table. (Although we didn't ask for one.)"

  • "We were there for a late lunch, so the restaurant wasn't very busy. The food was very good and the service was excellent. We plan to go back for dinner soon. The greeter wan't very friendly. We asked her if Open Table was credited since nobody asked our name when we arrived, and she seemed very put out."

  • "We were here for lunch on a weekday. The food was fabulous and the service was pretty good. I'm thinking because it was a new restaurant there are things to be worked through on service. All in all it was a good experience and we'll be back. The food is amazing, so I'm sure the service will be that level very soon!"

  • "Made a reservation for Mothers Day evening a day ahead for a party of 2. Arrived and were seated promptly and that's where the service ended. After 45 minutes at the table the only thing we had was an empty basket of bread and empty iced tea glasses. We ended up walking out and since it was too late and crowded every where else, we had Boston Market meatloaf. I wrote a review on the restaurant site and the manager wrote back apologizing with an offer for 50% off another visit. He explained they were short staffed and took too many large party reservations. If this was communicated to me at the table, I may have been more understanding. Sorry, I don't need to pay big money to be ignored."

  • "This was our first time dining here - the restaurant looked very nice on their website. Let me begin with the one positive - the food was very good. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was negative - the noise level was deafening where you could barely hold a conversation (plus the bar/lounge is right next to the dining room and their miked singer made it even louder). The biggest problem is that they constantly have service staff racing through the dining room to the bar/lounge dragging bags of ice, barrels of beer and glasses. We found it unbelievable that they have no alternative service route between the bar and back room other than going directly through the dining room. It was a real disappointment. "

  • "We had a very disappointing outing at this restaurant. The night started off bad when the restaurant gave our table away when we showed up 9 mins late despite the fact that I reconfirmed with them the day before that we will be showing up. They told us that they would get the table over but it took them another 40 minutes before we got seated. Once we got seated, their service was in complete disarray - they did not have a waiter assigned to us for another 20 minutes before they finally got someone over. After all this, I would have expected the manager to step up and comp us in some way but they never did that either. It was a truly disappointing outing. "

  • "The food and service where very good. It seems that it was much louder than previously when it was the Rosebud. I prefer a lower level so that you can have a pleasant conversation without pushing closer together or talking very loud which only causes the problem of noise to expand. "

  • "Marco, our server, was THE slowest. Yes, it was a packed house, but that didn't seem to stop him from stopping by the table next to us often and for long bouts of time, whilst completely ignoring our table. Even when it came to the bill, he didn't even finish out our service, but handed us off to another waiter and made some excuse about how he couldn't take my card before the bill came out. Food was bland: sauce under-seasoned and chicken was tough. I feel like I could have overlooked the plain (but not bad) food if service hadn't been so terrible for our special Mother's Day dinner."

  • "The restaurant is still very noisy. The manager was very impressive. He greeted each table. The food was good."
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "Overall quality of food is excellent - portions are very large. Service is good. The drawback to this restaurant as was with the previous restaurant is the noise level. It is one thing to say it is energetic but when you have to shout to hear your table mates it is too loud."
